Okay, I must say...... THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! things I always think is important is 1. Food 2. Host 3. Atmosphere 4. Sauce FOOD: I loved the platter of meat we had ! I have to say the chicken wings were a bit too salty for my taste and the I truly believe that they have room for improvement for that But other than that the platter was to die for !! We had meatball, shrimp, sausage, this really nice tender meat that I have no idea what it's called, Mac and cheese (in cube and deep fried form). Their meat is seriously worth driving the long distance from the shore !! And once you've eaten there your hair will smell of smoke, and remind you of all the good and tasty meat you just had ! Hahaha Host: the lady who served us was amazing !! These guys just opened 3 weeks ago but seriously they are doing one heck of a job !! They were kind, considerate and looking after you the best to their ability !! That's what I call service. And may I say choice of song not too bad !! Atmosphere: is amazing !! Made me feel like being at one of the Bbq joints in California. And man the whole place reminds me of a smoker which isn't bad !! Just makes you more hungry afterwards Overall all and all this place is a must go at least once in 2 months to get your fill for BBQ , their meat has been smoked for 10-14days soooooo the ribs, the meat were so soft Way to go guys you really deserve 4.5/5 but I can't do a 1/2 :)

We love this place! I went there twice in one week with two different groups of girlfriends and we all enjoyed ourselves. We had the Bok Bok burger and the meat platter :) Yay's: -Food:YUM. The Bok Bok is a pleasure and the meat platter had about 7 different things to try on it. It looks small when it arrives however we were so full by the end -Decor: Clean, crisp & cool atmosphere throughout the whole place. The bathrooms have a great touch to it with the old farm sinks. There was a function upstairs so it was handy having different levels of nooks so parties upstairs wouldn't be disturbed by diners downstairs -Staff: friendly & well presented Nay's: -Food: the meat platter needs a salad. There's so much meat that you could easily swap the meatballs(which were our least favourite by far, not needed on the dish) for the nice slaw or a green salad. We ordered on the side -Decor: bathrooms are upstairs which can be a bit annoying if you're rushing or had too much to eat :) -Staff: too many. We were asked about 5x by different people if we wanted drinks even though we had only been there for about 10mins. Overall, a good experience & would go back for sure to try new things. The ribs are divine!

    Platter time!

A couple of weeks ago, my partner and I went to check out the grand opening of Brickworks in Lynnmall. It's a newly renovated section of Lynnmall which has been sorely needed. We did a walking tour of all the restaurants and though I'm cautiously optimistic it is great to see some decent date-night potentials on offer in New Lynn. In the end, we opted to check out Cleaver & Co as it seemed to have a good energy about it and American inspired barbeque is quite the sizzlling trend (excuse the pun!) on the Auckland scene at the moment. There was quite a selection of starters, bbq mains, salads, hearty burgers/sandwiches, and signature sides. It was a bit overwhelming because we wanted to try so many things. Then we found a bbq platter option that we could even add on a pitcher of beer (lion red or macs gold) for $20. The platter was a great choice as it came with Texas meatballs, chicken wings, St. Louis style ribs, pulled pork sliders, grilled shrimp and mac n'cheese bites. Although it was more than enough food, out of curiosity I had to try the slaw as well as no self-respecting bbq place doesn't have a good slaw to boot. The coleslaw was quite nice and had a modern take. The meatballs were OK but nothing life-changing, the chicken wings were of ACE as were the sliders and the mac n' cheese bites. The shrimp was a bit overdone but I think that could be chalked up to first night blunders. The ribs that I was so looking forward to were very overdone and actually burnt. There was plenty of staff to flag down to which we advised the state of our ribs. Instantly a manager came tableside and advised that they were still working out a few kinks with their smoker and made great efforts to compensate us with some especially delicious beef brisket. A+ customer service. Also, the have Little Creatures Pale Ale on Tap and the beer taps are butcher knives. All in all, I have high hopes they they can work out their kinks and become a staple not only in Brickworks, but as a part of the New Lynn eating scene as a whole.

Ok time for a break down!…read more Pros: -The ONE star I gave them is for the big clean sized restaurant. But it looks more like a bar located off the interstate 15 to get to Las Vegas. Why u may ask!?! Because it's dark, alcohol all over the walls. There menu is a black board, I don't want to read what I want to eat! No pictures menu like C.A does it. -Free kids food on weds per kid with per adult purchase. Cons: Shit where do I start!?!... -Double check your order! They got mines wrong.. -Needs Picture Menu -They need to correct their name as Restaurant, Bar AND CASINO!!!! They got a corner full of slot machines, creepy people walking in and out smelling like smoke. (hint the Vegas feeling) -Music needs a more up beat tune, its a Hawaiian restaurant right!?! It don't help that it's dark with rock&roll music playing. -Last but not less!! The PORTION SIZE!!! Is fucked up!!! They try to make up for it by giving you 2x scoops of rice and 2x scoops Mac salad.. $13 for BBQ chicken and all I got was ONE and 1/2 piece of chicken!! Like WTF!?! U run out of chicken back there!!!??? thats there regular size, if u want more u should ordered there ALOHA size.. I guess Aloha means "Large" in some country around the fuckin world!?! Also there Mac salad tasted horrible (just like the states) and how do u mess rice up!?! FYI!! I don't think it's smart to serve the burnt rice that's stuck at the bottom or the side of the cooker! It's like chewing on rocks! ( I will say the chicken tasted Better then they do in the states! But that's it nothing else!!!!!! ) It was bad enough I didn't like L&L in Cali and this crap just took it a whole new level of disgrace to BBQ food.. I honestly think the casino is what's keeping it open! 4:00pm and no one to be found!! Smh I will never step foot in there again.

The vibe is the same but It's much larger than their City Works Depot venue and is kitted out with a full brewery and an authentic Texas BBQ. They've also got a killer outdoor courtyard with festoon lights - it's reminds me heeeeaps of Rainey St in Austin (google it). As for the food, it's pretty on point. It sounds like they did a couple of research trips to the States and it totally shows. Basically you choose you meat(s), add the trimmings (collard greens, burnt end beans, mac 'n cheese, tater tots, pickles, slaw and maybe a couple of others...) and sauces (there's too many to name). It's served canteen style out of bain maries - so pretty casual. All of the meat was pretty good but the standout for me was the pastrami, which was coated in a dry spice rub and deliciously tender. The pickles were also a highlight. They do all their own pickling and they're the perfect mix of sour/salty/sweet. When we went they didn't yet have their liquor license so it was soft drinks all round. I'm looking forward to a return visit complete with a crafty brew.

Chowon officially marks my 3rd Christmas in a row, eating out at a Korean restaurant. It was…read moreunintentional, I swear. When I spent my Christmas week in Auckland, I didn't realize most businesses would be closed (especially the day before Christmas). I went to Auckland with the mindset of having New Zealand cuisine (whatever that is). After circling around CBD on Christmas for what seemed like hours, trying to resist Korean and halal food, my mother and I finally kept heading south to see if there was anything mildly interesting--but ended up giving in when we saw the amazing $20 AYCE Korean barbecue deal. It seemed too good to be true, but it was. For the price of $20 NZD, it is a complete bargain from where I come from (where you pay upwards of at least $30 USD with limited options). This place is small and quaint and resembles a cheap Asian restaurant--doable if you don't care for decor. It is all self-service and DIY. The selection is great--they have such a great variety of different meats, like pork loin, pork belly, lamb, kalbi, to name a few. No complains since they had all the kbbq essentials. I also loved that they offered a few Korean staple dishes, such as kimchi and japchae, and they even had greenshell mussels (though quite limited), which everyone fought their way through for. All was going well and it was becoming a good experience for a dinner we did not anticipate at all. My mother is traditionally Chinese, so she likes steamed veggies. Because the grills had to have foil sheet changed, my mother put a new sheet over and thought she could try cooking a lettuce leaf with a small amount of water. An older Korean man (whom I assume is the owner) saw this and started going berserk on us and pulled a staff member in, yelling in Korean. Of course, this caused most of the restaurant to turn heads on us but we had no idea what he was so angry about. The staff member kindly told us that we shouldn't cook the veggies on the grill, as the water might leak through a hole in the foil sheet and damage the grill, but I'm pretty sure the oil the meats excrete may do much more harm. Other than that scenario, I had no problems because I was very full at the end. I will say that the meat batches were inconsistent--they would bring out frozen meat and fresh meat interchangeably.

It was open at the time I was in the area and it did look inviting. I perused the menu and decided to give it a try. Walking in I saw the old-fashioned furnishings, metal chairs, display cases, wall shelves, big bar in the middle all in a long and narrow room. Yessss, this looks lie something out of the 50s and I like it. After a long hard look at the menu I opted for the Salami platter... Strangely enough there wasn't salami, but more like a smoked ham, prosciutto like meat. It tasted great, so what's in a name. Delicious heirloom tomatoes, capers, salami impersonator, cream cheese, capers, pickles and your choice of bread. I had chosen crumpets and regretted that . Not because they weren't delicious, because they were so yummy, but they were also so buttery that I couldn't get the cream cheese to stick and everything I tried to put on the crumpet just slid right off them. I got the bottomless cup of coffee and I must say, this is really good coffee and the refills kept coming also. I love the atmosphere in here and there are so many great choices on the menu. If I ever come back tot Auckland, I will definitely stop by this place again.
