So, as Burger Week draws to a close, I was out in Red Bank, and decided to hit this spot, having heard good things about them. Street level, this appears to be a small place, but as I quickly learned, looks can be deceiving as there are levels below street level, as well as an outside patio. This also happens to be where the kitchen is set up in a trailer. Clever Alehouse is very laid back and comfortable. This strikes me as a neighborhood "joint". There's a reasonable variety of food, a decent beer selection, and the staff incredibly friendly and attentive. Their entry for Burger Week was excellent, one of the better burgers I've sampled this week. Clearly, this warrants a return visit, so I can sample more of what is offered from a food selection. read more

Update to my first review, we've gone back 3 times since and each has been progressively worse. This last time the burger tasted like a frozen patty that had a touch of freezer burn. Assuming they use fresh meat, so the it was burnt or poorly seasoned. Whatever the case, I left 90% of it on my plate. One woman behind the bar seems to do everything from making drinks, running food and bussing tables and never once washed her hands. read more

What a cool place. I went to try their burger featured on Chatts Burger Week, it's on their reg menu, so I get to have it again. It was on point and actually fresh with the nice, not so hot out mushy, lunch topper. I had the Shred Bank! The building is misleading in its size but bigger than it looks street side. On a nice day or evening, it has outdoor seating. The food was delicious. Served at our table after ordering at the bar. The selection of drinks is awesome. Dog and kid friendly. I'll be back. Only criticism is the parking could be tricky. read more

Good drinks, service, + vibes. This is a solid spot in Red Bank! Very cool interior with an upstairs and downstairs level, + a patio w/ a food truck in the back! My husband and I just stopped in for drinks after playing tennis on a Saturday. We were able to find a seat easily and were quickly served. I ordered the Tina Fey cocktail while my husband order one of the IPAs on draft. The one downfall was how small their draft beer menu was. Their food menu looked good, but we weren't quite ready for dinner, so just drinks for us! I'd love to come back to try more of their food & drinks. read more

We stoped in for a few drinks, left after the first one. Ordered 2 Mixed drinks, simple ones.. vodka and soda water. Took them a min to find any soda water only to either mix it with just water or soda was flat. Whisky and coke not must better maybe 2 pcs of ice and straw was to short so it was at the bottom of the glass. read more

Clever Alehouse is a great, local, neighborhood restaurant. I love that is has the neighborhood vibes and is a casual place to go hangout. Wether you're on the first floor at a table, in the basement on a couch, or outside on the patio, you always feel welcome. The staff is friendly and the speed of service is perfect. Their food is great too! The queso was great, and I loved the fried tortilla chips! Our table got a mixture of items and they are shown in the photos. None of us were disappointed and would order everything again! They mix of snacks and entrees with some Asian fusion mixed into their offerings. Get the house made Kimchi slaw! They've got a good happy hour and other specials throughout the week. Trivia Night is on Wednesdays at 7! There is street parking, and a parking lot accessible on the side of the building. read more

Gaburnator was great. The cheese tots oh my goodness. To is an adults dream. Happy hour 6 out 7 days. Arcade downstairs, games and lounging areas. I'll be back with a group. I kept seeing on Instagram that this new spot opened in Red Bank and decided that I had to try it! Before I went I also found it it's owned by the same people that own Bitter Alibi, so that was already a huge plus for me! We went at prime dinner time and it was absolutely packed, but we were still able to snag a small table! Service was fast and efficient and they even gave me my beer on the house! We ordered the cheesy spicy noodles and the brat flatbread and both were absolutely delicious! My one complaint about this spot is that it's not very big and it was extremely loud in there, making it hard to have conversations. All in all, I think this is a great addition to the Red Bank area and I'll definitely be back! read more

Great find on our summer trip. Parking was a bit interesting, but so worth it! After sampling a couple of their draft beers, we each settled on our favorites and enjoyed a frosty glass. Husband had the special Slammie burger with jerk seasoning. He said it was delicious! Five napkin messy with excellent flavor. I had the Mac and cheese and it was definitely 10/10! We sat at the bar and visited with the bartender who was very friendly, helpful and attentive. The vibe inside this small building is casual and friendly. There is additional seating downstairs and on the patio. Both areas were open, but recent rain kept folks pretty much to the upstairs area. read more

Clever is owned by the folks who brought Bitter Alibi and Daily Ration to the bar/food scene. Clever is more BA than DR. It has a very neighborhood bar vibe. We tried it for dinner because we are big fans of Daily Ration. The food has some good flavors but nothing to wow me. The citrus pork ramen bowl was very flavorful but it was overwhelmed with dry, overcooked pork. My wife's chopped salad just looked sad. They're new. Give them time to get it right and it'll be a wonderful stop in Red Bank. Right now it's just eh. read more

Small hipster restaurant and pub that I believe has great potential. They are just not there yet. Server told us they will soon start brewing their own beer. I will definitely check them out again when that happens. Parking is very limited. We were there on the weekend so the business across the side street wasn't open so we were able to park there. Not sure I would recommend that. No one likes to come out and find their vehicle has been towed and Red Bank po-po...well we all know they have a well deserved reputation. I just didn't have any other option. Service was hit and miss. Dark haired guy was an excellent server and a lady helped out who was great as well, but the other staff seemed pissed at the world. In their defense they were very busy and it is an extremely tight space. The big positive was the food. There were 5 in our group and we had the Green Man Hummus which was good, the Walter's White Queso which was tasty, the Gocho Pimento Cheese which I throughly enjoyed. It was served with soft pita chips that made it a little bit of a challenge to eat but I will order it again. My favorite though was my El Cunado sandwich. It was chipotle chicken sausage served in a pita wrap with some other fixins and a aioli that was spicy and freaking delicious! Would I recommend them? Hell yes! I just hope they can work out the parking issue, and work on a little attitude adjustment for the staff. My honest thought is they already need a larger building. I think with more room to breathe the staff attitudes will correct themselves. They seem like really nice people in a bad situation doing the best they can. Whoever is over their kitchen has an excellent palate. I think they could create a killer expanded menu. Larger space, brewing their own beer, expanded menu....this place could become something really special! I know I am pulling for them! read more

Love seeing new spots open up on Dayton Boulevard, this place is a great addition! Their menu is chalked full of goodies from ramen to flatbread sandwiches and the Breaking Bad puns are what really drew me here! The cocktails are top tier and sure to wow your taste buds. They even have outdoor seating along with inside tables and a good sized bar. I had to try some of the ramen, tue glazed pork shoulder really set it off, I'm not the biggest ginger fan but even with the dish being rather ginger forward I really enjoy it. I will say the noodles were a bit more like spaghetti like rather then authentic ramen but it was a nice twist on something classic. read more

Went there on a Date Night for the Nachos and New Yorkah drinks. Waitress told us, 'We don't have nachos anymore, new management". We had One drink each, then a side of $3 chips and dip, dip was in a miniscule bullit. The bill was $30!! WTH?!! Drinks were $11 each, and then she added, 'The alcohol tax is higher in Red Bank"... We went here for the first time last night. The parking is super limited, when we walked in it was not very crowded. We really liked the couches downstairs and laid back vibe. My wife and I both got the Heisenberg Ram'n Cheese with chorizo. I got the IPA on draft and my wife had the charcoal lemonade. Our kids had the Ryan Started the Fire. The Heisenberg was mediocre, the noodles seemed like spaghetti noodles rather than ramen noodles. The kids grilled cheese pita was really good however, the chips that came with it were a chili lime which were pretty spicy for them so they didn't eat them. The service was excellent, Pokey took great care of us and made us feel welcome. We will be back, but will try a different dish next time. read more

I wish I could like it, we had big hopes as location is close to home. The redesign of the existing space was great. You would think with the name "clever ale house" there would be a good selection of interesting craft beers. Unfortunately it is a small selection of mediocre beer, as they seem to be pushing mixed drinks instead which were meh and expensive. Food was ok, not great. Frequently drive by and the lack of patrons makes me think that they really need to rethink this space as there are plenty of local people who would support them providing they have clever beer and good food. read more

We have had the most delicious food here the two times we have come. The Big Papi, the veggie tacos, the carnitas tacos, the spicy ramen-- all delicious with wonderful flavor combinations. They have a great beer list and mocktails!!! This is a growing trend that is wonderful as my husband doesn't drink. I would definitely come check this place out!! read more
