I had the Blackened Fish tacos which were delicious with the sauce and slaw. My husband had the Rib Eye Cheesesteak with a side of fried Okra. He said it was delicious. My daughter had the Gouda burger and she said it was really good. They both enjoyed the onion rings which they said were nice and crispy. I had a margarita and my daughter had the strawberry lemonade with vodka, the drinks were also great. Plus, our server Hudson, was very attentive. For every restaurant, it always comes down to the food and Mike's is no exception. But nothing to fear here, they do brunch so well and I keep coming back. My go to is the steak and eggs, carnivore style. And I always ask for a side of bacon. Everything is so perfect and if you ask for medium, they give you medium. If you ask for medium rare they give you medium rare. Great kitchen crew. Our waitress this last time, but every single time has been flawless in their service. Drinks on the spot, refills when we need them, or even a little bit before. The service is great, from the greeting desk, to the wait staff, and even at our departure. Top notch! Even ask us if we want drinks to go. When you go out to eat, be there for the experience, don't be an uptight butt hole, if someone makes a mistake, be gracious. Give them a chance to make it right. We've had minor bumps in the road at Mike's in the past, but it all worked out for the best because they really are focused on making your experience one that you you'll want to come back for. Oh yeah, and tip like you're not a cheapskate! If you've ever been a waiter or a waitress, you know how hard it is and if you haven't, then I'm telling you how hard it is! Walked in on Sunday evening around 7 PM and was seated immediately. Joel, our server, took our drinks order within minutes of us sitting down at our booth. Joel was great. Very attentive and knowledgeable about menu items. Zana ordered the fish sandwich with Mike's Signature sauce and a fruit bowl side. I had the Tavern burger and side of cole slaw. Added an order of onion rings. Both sandwiches were delicious and well prepared. Sent onion rings back bc they arrived at less than room temperature. Joel immediately replaced them with another order that was slightly warmer. Rings were crisp and tasty but I wish they were served at a higher temperature. Even cool the breading on them wasn't greasy in taste or texture. We are only traveling thru Chattanooga on our trip south and Mike's was convenient to our hotel. We like trying out non-chain restaurants when we stay somewhere overnight. You can find a Chili's, TX Roadhouse, etc in almost every city so patronizing local establishments provides some variety while traveling. I must admit I thought this 'tavern' would be the same mediocre American food place which is on practically every corner street in Hixson. Let me reassure you- it's not. This is one of the best restaurants I've had the pleasure to enjoy in quite some time. And if you luck up and happen to receive Hayden as your server, you will have an amazing experience! I was waffling between the choice of two entrees and sides, Hayden suggested I and my companion each order the entrees, but one with fries and one with onion rings -- outstanding! I was seated fairly quickly. They weren't busy so I was happy to see how that went. Once I was seated, my service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is friendly and pleasant as well as seemingly clean. I ordered the crab cakes with no remoulade and the shrimp and grits. The first time the crab cakes came out they had the remoulade on them so they went back. Not a huge deal to me. When the crab cakes came back out they were delicious but served on diced slaw. Delicious but I scraped off the base of veg. The shrimp and grits had highs and lows. The shrimp was absolutely delicious. The pepper jack grits didn't taste like much. The adoullie sausage gravy was almost unnecessary because it didn't add much. Overall, the shrimp and grits was still very good. They make actual onion rings here at Mike's Tavern, and they are amazing. These are not "frozen onion rings" that came on a truck in bags. These days, I am very impressed with any restaurant actually chops up a vegetable. These onion rings were so good that I didn't even need the ranch dressing. The chicken Cobb salad is a beast! Plenty enough for two, and then you can try an app or two. I had the fish and chips which are delicious and perfectly fried. The sausage and cheese plate was very good. It had pimento cheese and pickles to accompany the rich sausage. We finished with the bread pudding. The bread pudding was a little more dense than necessary, which made getting all the notes of the spices more difficult. The berries definitely helped to add a brightness and freshness to the dessert. Our server, Amanda knew exactly when to check on us, and did an exceptional job. She's very knowledgeable about the food and will guide you wonderfully if you're trying to decide between a couple of items. The restaurant is always extremely clean, and well kept. And no it's not a dive They were rather busy and asked if I minded sitting at the bar. Of course not. The bartender Judy was a hoot! She had all these fancy drinks she was having to make before me. This is a hidden gem. Living in Hixson for a number of years, It surprised me to see this place pop into my suggestion list and I'd never heard of it. I'm so sorry for the years I've already missed not eating here, but I am working hard to make up for lost time. As many who read my reviews know, any place that has shrimp and grits on the menu is immediately going to get my attention. It's the first dish I try when available and Mike's Tavern is no slouch in the running for best dish in this category. Amazing. Enough said. But I'd be remiss if I stopped there. We've returned a number of times already since the first visit and I'm trying to work my way through the menu. Try as I might to be disappointed, so far Mike's hasn't let me down. Every dish, every visit is just wonderful. Service is always great and with a smile. On one occasion we had a slight hiccup with an entree and it was remedied immediately and without hesitation and of course, with sincere apologies and a smile. My partner and I stopped for a lite lunch at Mike's for the first time and were delighted. I ordered a side salad and my guy ordered a bowl of chili. Both were delicious. The chili was freshly made and delicious. My salad was amazing for a 6$ side salad. Cheese, eggs, peppers, croutons,and fresh lettuce. The service was friendly and attentive. Our server took very good care of us. My only complaint would be the person acting as hostess. She was deep in a conversation with a friend at the bar and we waited an uncomfortable amount of time before she noticed us. I hate that when it happens. The restaurant is really cute. Took my son and his girlfriend to brunch while he was home. This one is difficult to review because the drinks and service were good, the food was so disappointing. My son had a Mimosa and I had a bloody Mary I had to make myself, I asked if they could make it (I've never made one) but the server said no (in a polite and friendly way!) My son took a stab at it and it was good. I ordered the Classic Tavern Dip which on paper, appeared to have tons of flavor. Unfortunately, not only was it lackluster but the chips were not good. Everyone took a bite and that was it. No one wanted to take the leftovers home. A wasted $12. Then my Crab Benny and my son's chicken and waffles arrived. He said his chicken was just ok and should have just gotten the regular syrup because the buffalo syrup was funky. My crab cake was pretty good but didn't stand out against the hollandaise sauce. The offender on this dish was the cold, chewy, fries. The garlic Parmesan "coating" cannot save poorly executed fries - or even fries that have been sitting too long. My dessert loving son didn't even want dessert due to the previous courses - now that is serious. It was a rare instance where no one wanted to take home leftovers. Parking during Sunday brunch is a nightmare - if you go, go early or have someone drop you off! read more

We often hit this place about once every 2-3 months. The food and service are spectacular compared to the other Rt. 153 Hixon restaurants we tend to frequent, Aubrey's, Millers, First Watch, Road House, etc. The atmosphere is exceptionally "new" and just doesn't feel at all like a tavern, hence the 4 out of 5 stars, this place is really good but not perfect. I feel like they could step up their game a little with a nicer bar, and a bigger top shelf whisky selection perhaps some upgraded furnishing's (Brass, Dark woods, Red or Blue Leather bar stools) stuff like. My two cents, if you haven't been, GO, you will not be disappointed by the food or the service, but this just doesn't feel like a tavern to me. read more

Parking was packed on a Saturday. Excellent food, atmosphere and service from Kirsten on a Sunday afternoon. What could be nicer than treating my beautiful daughter to lunch, as we took a break from shopping? NOTHING! The atmosphere is Minimalist Industrial Modern in dark grey hues, mixed with bright colors. Booths line the perimeter of the dining room, plus 4-top tables are clustered in the middle. At the opposite side, divided by wood blinds, is the large, horseshoe-shaped bar. Kirsten was our experienced, excellent and attentive server. From her initial contact with us until she closed out our bill as well as brought leftover containers, she cheerfully provided helpful suggestions from the menu favorites while being friendly and professional. While we perused the menu, Kirsten brought our delicious sweet tea drinks and was on top of keeping them filled. Kirsten was available without being overbearing. We obtained the password to their free WiFi and alternately were taking pictures while we watched sports on the TVs scattered throughout. When our food arrived 10-15 minutes later, it looked phenomenal. It was obvious that each dish was made-to-order. And steaming hot. I had the delightfully tender and juicy Blackened Mahi-mahi Sandwich, which was dressed with the most wonderful homemade remoulade sauce, shredded lettuce, red ripe tomato and red onion. The 'side' I chose was coleslaw, which was a fairly large amount, chopped finely and tasted so fresh. It was some of the best coleslaw I've had. I finished my plate. My daughter chose one of her favorites: Fish and Chips. I didn't try them, but they looked just as phenomenal as my dish. She got 5 Atlantic Cod filets, along with French fries and mashed potatoes. She did a review on her experience, calling them some of the best Fish and Chips she's had. This 'tavern' is now one of my favorites for the many reasons listed above. The 4 folks at our table had the brisket hash, fish & chips, a burger, and shrimp & grits between us. Everyone was pleased. Portions were good. Servers were polite, even as we sat a bit overlong visiting. Picked this one out of a hat because I was meeting my parents 1/2 way between Atlanta and their place in KY.
