Clifford's Coffee is a cute breakfast joint located on the canal. Very dog friendly. We brought our big boy inside to over. We were able to sit outside on the patio with him. We ordered lattes, a ginger shot, and avocado toast with an egg over easy. My latte I ordered with lavender. So yummy! The portions were large. The avocado toast was okay. I would probably get something else off the menu. Everyone else's food looked amazing! Our avocado toast came with four pieces. The toast wasn't toasted. We weren't able to pick up our toast. Lots of avocado which was great. We added an egg, which really covered one piece of toast. I would probably go with the breakfast tacos or omelette next time. The people were so kind! There is overflow parking down the street. Easy walk.

I'm here to advocate for the birds they have in this place, just awful neglect and abuse. First off, the environment is loud and chaotic , birds should not be there in the first place. The cage they have them in is extremely small and cramped, with no toys or enrichment. The worst part of all of it was the birds nails...extremely extremely overgrown, to the point they were twisting. These birds need their nails cut desperately. Please do not support this business. Do better.

Clifford's is absolutely adorable -- beautiful plants, cozy decor, and a great vibe. Unfortunately, the charm stopped there. The coffee tasted like ground asphalt mixed with cleaning solution, and the latte was completely undrinkable. To top it off, there were flies crawling on the big, beautiful muffins displayed by the door -- definitely not what you want to see before breakfast. For $25 for two coffees and two muffins, I expected something special -- not a science experiment gone wrong in a cup. The service made things worse. We felt rushed out the door as staff kept stopping by every couple of minutes to take something away -- a spoon, a knife, a plate -- each on separate trips. It was absurd. Aesthetically, Clifford's nails it. But between the awful coffee, the flies, and the constant interruptions, it was an expensive disappointment. Beautiful place, but we won't be back.

Indoor cozy corner to enjoy patio garden and canal view

A hidden gem tucked away in Benton Harbor's canal district. Such a cozy place to dine. Indoors is uniquely decorated surrounded by plants and eclectic art work. More seating outside on the patio next to the water, full of well tended gorgeous flowers! As for the food, yup that's great too! I had a hot mocha in a large mug to start - best I've had. The dark chocolate they paired the coffee with was so so good. Our main dishes were Morning Glory sandwich and Waffle. Both were yummy and hit the spot. Our bellies were happy. Can't wait to return and try other items on the menu and park ourselves in that lovely cozy cafe. Btw, as soon as you walk in is the counter where you place your order first. Then you go and select a table. The lovely staff brings food to you. Enjoy!

Found this spot while looking for breakfast and it has good reviews and it looks cool. And it does looks cool. Very artsy. Plants and birds everywhere, art work everywhere. All the furniture probably refurbished from somewhere. Doesn't look like a typical cafe at all. Breakfast was a hit. I got a full plate of eggs and beans. Goes well with my iced coffee. Iced drinks should have served in glass instead of plastic cup but whatever. It is a little bit more expensive than typical breakfast place. Parking is a problem like everyone are saying. They have a separate parking lot by the roundabout.

The ambience is what makes this place! Right against the canal with beautiful greenery inside and out. The art and furniture and views are all lovely! The coffee is rich and tasty and the service was fast with friendly staff taking orders and serving. Overall, I will be adding this it my list of St Joe favorites

We always stop here when we are in town. This place is so cute and has great food! There is seating on the water and so many beautiful plants and birds.

Clifford's is a must visit anytime I am in Benton Harbor. Though we only had time for coffee today, it was so worth the time to enjoy the beautiful patio over the water filled with a host of gorgeous flowers. The iced coffee was excellent as well.

This was our 2nd choice for brunch with our friends. Although the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the initial entry was very inviting with all kinds of freshly baked muffins wetting our appetites, the food was disappointing and over priced. Also, never serve water in cups that smell like eggs. The service was great for the most part.

Is Clifford's Coffee Canal wheelchair accessible? Inside and outside?? Thanks. Judy

I think I recall a ramp that went from the inside to the outside patio. You may want to call first just to be safe

When you first walk in, you're not entirely sure if you walked in the right door, except it smells…read morelike fried bread (not necessarily donuts) and coffee. It has a small town community center vibe, and there are seating options available to enjoy your donuts once you purchase them. I love this rec-center vibe. The donuts themselves are pretty much what you would expect in terms of basic variety. There wasn't a huge variety available, but there were plenty of flavor options to choose from for even the pickiest of donut eaters. Strangely one immediate complaint that I have about the donuts right off the bat is that there's actually way too much icing or glaze. I got an old fashioned and two krulers, and some others, but there's so much icing on them that the donuts are completely lost and I'm literally crunching on pure chunks of recrystalized sugar on the old fashioned. I never imagined I'd have that complaint, but it is a bit overwhelming. I'll try the others later. I could not finish the old fashioned donut though because it was too sugary. (Took me 3 times to eat that one donut) There was a very tall gentleman in there that assisted me with my order. He was very pleasant and patient with me while I figured out what to put in my collection. Afterward, I sat down and ate part of my old fashioned donut to which he inquired about the quality. I told him it was good, but I should not have. I thought maybe I was just having a sugar issue with the old fashioned. I didn't realize it till I got the entire box home that they are all very heavily coated with the glaze. I thought the box was exceptionally heavy for 6 donuts... In any case, it doesn't really matter. Other than the Bit of Swiss business up the road, this is the only donut shop in town and I'm guessing the one you'll be stopping at when you roll through here as well. I love supporting local businesses and I'm glad this isn't a krispy kream, but I will say there's a little bit more that could be done in terms of enhancing the ambiance of their shop, as well as managing the overall glaze that coats the donuts. But the people were friendly and they were open early, so it was all good. *NEXT DAY I'm staying in an air bnb and Im actually going to take my donuts back. I took one bite of the kruler (yesterday when I got back to the b&b) and it was not good. All sugar on the outside, burnt exterior, but the inside was either raw or I don't know what. It was like wet bread. Literally. Pasty, gloopy, and so greasy/oily. Definitely an issue with the oil, and perhaps the recipe as well. Either way, I don't want to eat the rest and will take them back on my way out of town today. And by the way, it was like $20+ for a cup of coffee and 1 old fashioned, 2 krulers, 1 custard long-john, 1apple fritter, and a peanut butter filled. The long-john was okay, not enough custard and the pastry was dry, over-fried. The apple fritter was also a little burnt outside, but the apple ratio was good. It still was coated too heavily with sugar. I had to peel some of the thicker chunks off first. One bite of kruler and I won't eat that. Nope. I hope they have a better batch today. So, final thoughts... I just dropped off the bad donuts and the owner only refunded the 2 krulers even though I didn't eat the peanut butter one either, and that was after she got really defensive about her krulers (as if I'd never had one) and she refused to receive even the tiniest bit of feedback. Its obvious they were burned, over glazed, and raw in the center but she chose to make me feel badly about bringing them back, then she refunded me from her employee tip jar! What? She was so uncomfortable and unwilling to even listen to me that I felt angry leaving, even though I tried to be gentle. Whatever. My review was going to increase from 3 to 4 if they handled this well, but she didn't. Now it goes down farther than normal because customer service is important but was really lacking here by the actual owner, not the pleasant employee, though. She really put him in a strange position.

The food here is ok but apparently they want to lose a customer over refusing to refund an item…read morethat was not given, like I don't spend enough in their expensive store on a regular basis anyway. Or, I did. This person must really need 50 cents badly to actually ignore a customer and to refuse a refund. Your business will not last if you do not have the management skills to back up cooking skills. And this is a small area. When a customer asks you why you charged them something, they are not just asking. It is theft. I expect an answer when I ask that question. My receipt clearly shows a custom charge of 50 cents, for a side of sauce that I did not receive. It was actually supposed to be a dollar because I ordered 2 sides. I sent a message and was told that I was not charged, end of reply. I replied that I was. Instead of sending a refund, they sent me a copy of the current receipt that clearly shows a 50 cent custom charge on it. I am not the blind one here. I messaged again asking what the charge was for, if not for the sauce. No reply. I am also tired of tipping on takeout just to have no one check the orders and for it to go out wrong, no more. What is the tip for? It was 2 items, juice, and some sauce, not hard to get right. Tip in cash only if your order is correct. A normal response would also be to apologize for getting the order wrong to begin with. I have not received another response or a refund so I take it that they feel entitled to take money for items not given. It is not about the amount of money, just the audacity and bad business practices. Shameful behavior. There is nothing special about the menu here so something better will eventually take its place.
