We recently stopped into Dad's Farm & Cafe for a quick lunch and it was perfect! I ordered the Apple Bird sandwich and it is now in my top 3 Turkey sandwiches of all time! Great size for sharing, but you're not going to want to! So fresh, so tasty, and made with love from local ingredients. The cafe is located inside a "food hall" of sorts, surrounded by other local vendors serving cheese, produce, coffee, beer, smoothies, gifts, and more! Great atmosphere for cooling off from the summer sun and enjoying a unique lunch prepared by friendly, knowledgeable servers. If you're in the St. Joseph area, make sure to stop by and grab a snack! The food here is ok but apparently they want to lose a customer over refusing to refund an item that was not given, like I don't spend enough in their expensive store on a regular basis anyway. Or, I did. This person must really need 50 cents badly to actually ignore a customer and to refuse a refund. Your business will not last if you do not have the management skills to back up cooking skills. And this is a small area. When a customer asks you why you charged them something, they are not just asking. It is theft. I expect an answer when I ask that question. My receipt clearly shows a custom charge of 50 cents, for a side of sauce that I did not receive. It was actually supposed to be a dollar because I ordered 2 sides. I sent a message and was told that I was not charged, end of reply. I replied that I was. Instead of sending a refund, they sent me a copy of the current receipt that clearly shows a 50 cent custom charge on it. I am not the blind one here. I messaged again asking what the charge was for, if not for the sauce. No reply. I am also tired of tipping on takeout just to have no one check the orders and for it to go out wrong, no more. What is the tip for? It was 2 items, juice, and some sauce, not hard to get right. Tip in cash only if your order is correct. A normal response would also be to apologize for getting the order wrong to begin with. I have not received another response or a refund so I take it that they feel entitled to take money for items not given. It is not about the amount of money, just the audacity and bad business practices. Shameful behavior. There is nothing special about the menu here so something better will eventually take its place. read more

The service and sandwich were exceptional. I was recently in the area on a business trip and decided to explore St. Joseph one evening. While walking around downtown, I decided I wanted a sandwich and found Dad's Farm & Cafe here on Yelp. I placed and order onlnie for pick-up. I ordered the Daryl and a side salad. The Daryl is a hot sandwich with ham, salami, black olives, cherry peppers, a smoky aioli, and provolone cheese. This mix of ingredients was the perfect taste of salty and umami and hit the spot. The bread was perfectly toasted and all the ingredients tasted of god quality. The side salad was ok...it was fresh and all the veggies were crisp. Nothing special there. I loved the sandwich so much...I ordered it twice. The service from the staff was really friendly and ensured my order was ready by the time I arrived. The food is good, but the service from the people that work there is terrible. The teenage boy taking orders is sullen and rude and refuses to speak to you beyond the minimum every single time I go there, which I have just ignored up until today. I ordered, he tells me it will be 20 minutes and do I still want it, I say of course and he hands me a beeper. 20 minutes later my beeper goes off, I go to the window and there's a sandwich there, I ask him if this is mine he once again just gives me a sullen stare and goes back to what he's working on, so I just shrug and take the sandwich as there's no one else waiting for food. Halfway through eating it the woman that works there comes up and is angry with me as apparently it wasn't my order. I apologize and start to explain what happened and she just walks off angry that she has to remake an order. Not sure what I could have done differently here. I'm done. I love supporting our local businesses and the food is good, but I'm not dealing with the people that work there ever again. read more

This is such a great find! The food is fantastic and made from scratch, which makes it easy to navigate around food allergies if you have them. The menu has so many interesting and tasty options that it makes it hard to choose what to order first. I got the steak bowl, which comes with an egg and plenty of sautéed peppers, onions and potatoes. Highly recommend. Even the drink options are exciting. Locally made cherry limeade?! Yes please! The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly. Even though you are in the middle of an open-concept business collective, the layout of the restaurant space makes you feel like you are in someone's giant, awesome home kitchen and you can watch as your meal is made. It took me a moment to put my finger on it, but this place gives you the reassurance that your meal is being made by people who enjoy good food. As someone who loves to cook and is on the tail end of a road trip, this was the most relaxed and enjoyable meal I've had in a while. I enjoyed it on so many levels. The restaurant is tucked away inside of a bigger collective of stores, one of which is Dad's Farm, a little grocery with a nice collection of packaged and frozen locally sourced foods. There are other shops in the collective including a coffee shop, brewery, cheese shop, wine shop, and gift shop with great art, cards, jewelry and other clever gifts. It's a nice group of shops where you can pick up some great souvenirs. A quick note about the entrance to the collective: it was not obvious to me, though I might have missed some signage. I was looking at the map on my phone, was on Pleasant St, and passed by the whole thing several times. I almost gave up trying to find it, but I could smell good food, so I finally took a chance on a tinted door near a coffee shop and was happily surprised to find I was in the right spot for Dad's Cafe as well. ordered sandwiches and was told nothing about a wait. the sign said please wait up to 15 minutes. 45 minutes later, no food, and the people who ordered AFTER us start receiving their food. their order is totally wrong and they get a refund. we check in and they said "we told you it'd be a 40 minute wait, and it's been 40 minutes so we'll bring it out now" they never told us that but ok. 15 min later still no food and we see the kitchen and they haven't even started our food. an hour after we ordered we just demand a full refund. unclear why it took them so long when there were maximum 10 orders between that hour and nobody received an accurate meal read more

Came running to write a review on the *NEW* Chicken salad sandwich and Chicken Cheesesteak! The cheesesteak has been my go to for the last several years. It comes hot and is packed with delicious chicken, peppers/onion, a gooey cheese and delicious aïoli! I've never been disappointed with this sandwich. HOWEVER I'm a chicken salad sammy fan and when I heard there was a new one in town I flew over as fast as I could, and this baby did not disappoint. This honestly is the best chicken salad sandwich I've had. The croissant was flaky in the best possible way but didn't fall apart as I ate. It was soft and gave a good bread to everything else ratio. Chicken salad it's self was creamy and the dried cherry pieces gives it just a bit of sweetness. I dressed mine with tomato and lettuce that looked beautiful! 10/10 if you enjoy chicken salad it's a must try! Little cafe stand located inside of the market in the downtown area. They had many salad and sandwich options, along with smoothies and other goods. I would recommend the Michigan salad over the apple and turkey sandwich but both were good! There's plenty of space to sit inside the market, and when you're done eating you can check out the dads farm grocery area and other local shops. read more

My husband and I decided to check out The Market in St. Joe and happened upon Dad's Farm Cafe while inside.  I ordered a grilled cheese and tomato soup while my husband grabbed a bad of pickled jalepeno chips.  Everything was tasty and it came out quickly.  Employees were kind and I am looking forward to exploring their menu in the future.  The chicken parm sounds apsolutely delicous and even my husband who usually prefers beef said it sounded tasty. This restaurant is located on Main in a building marked The Market. There are several shops and restaurants in this building of vendors that share a communal eating area. Dad's has all day breakfast and lunch items. I had the Garden Grilled Cheese: Provolone, Swiss & Mozzarella on toasted Detroit Sourdough. Not sure why it's called garden but it was exceptional. I also had a cup of tomato soup which was loaded with pieces of tomato and went very well with the grilled cheese. My hubby also had the Garden Grilled Cheese and the fried potatoes with chives and cheese and sour cream. Yes, he had a cheese sandwich with cheese potatoes... and loved all of it. LoL. Love the concept, love the location, love the atmosphere, but the execution is lacking. Ordered two different times today. Once for us, once for the kids who arrived separately with the grandparents. It took just under an hour to get our first order and we are still waiting on our second order (one Big Al's burrito and one PB&J) and it has now been 1 hour 20 minutes since we ordered and paid for the food. No indication of how long food would take was ever given and no care is taken to explain to waiting customers what to expect. Food cost is fine, food quality is good but not as tasty as we expected and the staff is friendly but something has to change for the production volume and customer satisfaction/wait time. I hope they can get things figured out. Too many businesses in our area have failed and it would be great to see this one find a way to turn a good situation into something great. Added note: Don't order the PB&J you will be deathly disappointed in the experience. However this last time I ordered the southwest salad added chicken after a tip it was $19.00 and over 25 mins to get my salad. I arrived during lunch hour on a weekday and waited five minutes before anyone came to the register. Then the employee told me they couldn't make any more food for another hour. So I shopped around in the market and while I was waiting for my delicious ice tea( I HIGHLY recommend the tea shop) I saw the employee turn away several people yet took other peoples order. HI - stopped here for brunch on Monday morning. Only one person cooking and taking orders, so we were a little concerned. But the food was fantastic! And the coffee shop across the way was a terrific add-on. Dad's is in "The Farm" building, along with other food/wine shops and the coffee shop. Which is so so being downtown st Joseph on a weekend. However the food was hot and fresh. The ingredients were unique and delicious.
