Went to Cliffords for fish fry today. I had the sea food platter. It was excellent ,the deep fried items were nicely done and not greasy. The baked cod was moist and tender , served with drawn butter. As close to lobster as you can get. My wife had the baked cod as well. It was a substantial piece, The fries were crispy. Unlike so many other places the rye bread was soft and fresh. The service was prompt and friendly. The place is dated. We are in our 70's and the decor took us back to our childhood and going out for Friday night fish fries with our parents. We enjoyed the nostalgia. read more

Went to our first supper club ever and it was a great experience. Our server, Destinee was fabulous. She was super attentive and patient while we were trying to figure out what to order. It wasn't busy at all on a Thursday night at 6pm. There were a few people at that bar. We opted for the fish fry and perch dish. It came with so many other items such as bread, coleslaw, side salad, soup, crackers, and a relish tray. It also came with different side choices such as mashed potatoes, french fries, or baked potato. You have to ask for the relish tray but our server was so thoughtful and brought it out for us even thought we didn't ask for it. Parking was super easy as there is a lot. The ambiance is a bit like going to grandma's house. It's cozy and you get to have a nice meal with the family and loved ones. read more

I was there with a friend tonight because they were holding a paint and sip class in the banquet room. First glass of wine was included. They really set it up nice for us, I believe there was 54 people in the class. Bartender was friendly and so was the waitress. We had wanted to get something to eat afterwards but the kitchen closes at 9. The only complaint I had was the parking lot was small for this size hall, had to get there early to get a spot. If you're looking for an old style supper club this is the place. Restaurant is very dated, probably hasn't changed much since it opened many years ago. We stopped in for the ayce fish fry on a Friday evening. Had reservations for 7 pm, arrived a bit early and were seated after about a 10 minute wait. Tables were freshly bussed, covered with paper placemats, silverware in a linen napkin with a set of various condiments at the center. Service was prompt and courteous but not especially friendly. Needless to say on a Friday night during Lent, the dining room was packed. We were served a bread basket like you used to see in the old supper club days, filled with rye bread, dinner rolls and various packaged bread sticks and crackers. The bread and rolls were fresh and not dried out like with so many other fish fry dinners. Orders came quickly and servings were large enough the we didn't need to reorder seconds. The dinner included a good size helping of fries, 4-5 pieces of cod, about a quarter cup of creamy style coleslaw, a cup of tartar sauce and a lemon wedge. The fries were limp, not oily but not crisp, the cod was battered and again not oily but it was a thin coating that didn't adhere to the fish very well. The cod was flaky and tasted ok. So a dinner came in at $21, a bit pricey for the quality but then it was an all you can eat deal. Sodas came in at $3.50 which seems to be the going price now days but these were on the small side. We were not offered refills until we had finished our meals. Overall Clifford's is ok for a Friday fish fry, but it's not the best in town. One suggestion for the management, use your staff to keep the floors clean. We observed 3-4 workers sitting around at the hostess stand that could have swept up messes left by tables with kids. Kids are naturally messy at a young age, but fries and crumbs littering the floors shouldn't be left for patrons to walk around. read more

We had a party of 6 visiting from California and wanted to give them the true Wisconsin fish fry and supper club experience. We chose to go on Thursday instead of Friday and that's the pro move if you are going for the full service and food. First off, Destinee, our server, was awesome! So friendly, funny, and folksy! She mixed up great cocktails and made sure we had everything we needed and more. Her recommendations were excellent - from drinks to melting our choice of cheese on French onion soup. She was doing much more than just bringing out our food. She did it all! The cod was the best any of us have had and the perch was cooked to perfection. I can see how this place gets really busy on Friday - it's a huge space so if you are looking for personal service go on a different night. No doubt the quality of the food is the same on Friday, but your experience will be elevated when it's not as busy. Terrible service and lousy food! My son and I were hoping for a wonderful all-you-can-eat crab dinner last night . Our waitress, Heather , said she'd only been there for two weeks, but obviously wasn't trained. We had to ask for absolutely everything: the relish tray , our soup, our dinners, crab crackers, everything! Plus the crab was still cold! The next table over had the same cold crab as well. What a wonderful night at the Clifford supper club!! It was clean, and a great old fashioned feel. Had 10 people for a Friday Fish-fry and the family style service was ideal for our crowd. The cod and hand cut French fries were delicious and the fish brought on a platter accompanied by lemon came to the table hot and had a nice crisp coating. Rolls and rye bread, butter, coleslaw and tartar sauce were placed in baskets before we were seated. The brandy old fashioned was a treat! We were seated in a banquet hall setting and if you desired something other than the cod, you could get a hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken fingers. That's all they offer in the hall on a Friday. One of our party wanted perch and she had to order it as a carry out and had it delivered to our table where she ate with the rest of us. I'm seriously torn on this review because their website says voted best fish fry and they get so much right and so much completely wrong compared to other local fish frys like no options/flexibility and this what you get because we're a machine for the last 65 years. It's a dated and run down restaurant with a long bar that shows it's age but it seems very popular on a Friday night. It's so generic with a wide open cafeteria set up that people flock to and definitely not a date night place but more of a comfort food place if the first impression is long gone and you want a cocktail and a Friday fish fry. I ordered a brandy old fashioned sour and I asked to order a fish fry to go and I was told to go to the cash register at the end of the bar to order take out. I order the fish fry and it is how it comes because they don't offer any choices to you like potato and you wait to hear your number called out. When I got to my car I opened the container and it looked funny because instead of the rye bread it was a dinner roll with no butter and the coleslaw was barely half filled in the container. I sampled a couple frys before I got home while they were still fresh and they were room temperature and soggy, not greasy soggy but laying around soggy where the fresh crisp was long gone. The frys were seasoned nicely and if fresh probably would be pretty dam good. The tarter sauce was small for 4 pieces of fish but very good with a great tart flavor. The dinner roll was dense with no butter and completely wrong because rye bread is a fish Fry. The coleslaw was good with a radish hint that reminded of the pickled ginger in sushi but very skimpy because it was barely half full. The fried fish looked pathetic with a damaged/cracked fish like it was man handled which I think is a first in my fish fry. The fish was good and seasoned nicely with nice flakey meat but noticeably dry compared to other fish frys. Overall I have tried the 4 fish fish frys in the Hales Coroners area and Clifford's was my least liked and my favorite down the street from them still sits on the throne so they are safe. There web site says award winning fish fry but my fish fry was somewhat disappointing because it seemed mass cooked and laying around to fill orders and not cooked to order fresh, just a generic mass cooked meal. read more

We were a party of four and the only occupied table in the restaurant and it still took forever to get our cold over cooked lousy food. Service- server was very conscientious and attentive. However she failed to mention their daily special was two filet dinners for a lower price then on the menu. Well. I'm not mad at it! It's definitely got an old timey feel and the eating area sort of feels like you're eating in a cafeteria. I can only speak on the food that I ordered because it's all I tried. I feel as far as fish fry's go, this was decent. On this particular day, it was all you can eat. I mean, one plate is good enough. Priced decently considering the AYCE, but I couldn't really eat much more than the first plate. I tried to eat a little more and they brought out a whole other plate when I just asked for one more piece. Maybe because it was the end of the night. I felt wasteful. The fish was cooked perfectly but I think all a bit too salty for my taste. That's hard to avoid though considering it's fried food. The bread was fine and the coleslaw was fine. I added pepper to the coleslaw which seemed to help. Overall the service was friendly and I had a nice dining experience with friends. read more

AYCE crab legs Tuesday. Made a reservation- didn't need one. Was dismayed at the lack of patrons here.... I know it's Tuesday- but- still.... Salad was cold, a bit on the wilty side. Salad dressings were yummy. The thousand island was chunky and very tasty- add the French and it saved the salad! Crab came with potato and cole slaw as well. Legs are on the small side. Dripping with water- needed to be drained better. Our plates were holding lots of water - and even as we cracked out legs, they were shedding water. We did order a second plate - and those were much "drier". Have a full bar. Decorated for Valentine's Day- nice, not over the top crazy. Waiter was kind. Went for the Saturday special of All You Can eat Snow Crab legs. Did. Not. Disappoint! Crab was super tender, very sweet and came out hot in every re-order. It's a touch on the pricey side, so it's not an every week kind of thing like their Fish Fry, but definitely something to try if you love crab. I don't write many yelp reviews, but I just had to for the experience we had at Clifford's this past Friday. I went with about 8 other family members, including my two young daughters, mom, aunt, and others. The food was okay, as it usually is, but our server was easily one of the worst I have experienced at any restaurant ever. And it's not like it was exceptionally busy. I have been there before where it's been packed, and we still received our food and drinks in a timely manner. I don't know what this lady's problem was, but she was very clearly not having a good time. To the point where every time she walked away from our table we commented on how unbelievably rude and off-putting she was to us. She made us feel like we were nuts to even have the audacity to come and eat there that night. She forgot to get things we asked for, came back maybe once to see if we wanted more food, and then when we did ask for more fries, by the time she actually brought some to our table, we had been done eating for a good ten minutes. Then after she cleared our plates away and came back like 15 min later, we thought she was going to give us our check, and she asked if we wanted more food (!?). And look I get it, places are short staffed, and it's hard to hire right now, but there was absolutely no excuse for her repulsive attitude and horrible service. We are very laid back, polite people who just wanted to enjoy a fish fry on a Friday night. We have been to Clifford's many times but will definitely be going elsewhere next time around. read more

A few weekends back, my WI family arranged a little Friday Fish Fry as a way to taste a local favorite and see extended family! Here are the takeaways: STAR 1 = Staff here is excellent. STAR 2 = Holy delicious food! To start us off, freshly baked rolls were delivered to the table, followed by the "all you can eat" fish fry special. $15 for all you can eat - freshly fried (and lightly breaded!) cod, fresh coleslaw, french fries and the tastiest tarter sauce - which essentially tasted like a killer aoli! Heaping piles of food were delivered consistently, and was oh, so good! Their regular menu boasts a variety of other meal options, but the fish is their biggest seller! STAR 3 = Its location is a bit hidden, but clearly marked and filled with families alike. The atmosphere feels like home and has a relaxed vibe. Everyone treated each other like family and was beyond welcoming to us newbies. With ample parking, veteran discounts and a unique feel, it's easy to see why this is a locals favorite! STAR 4 = Despite our large party, never once did I feel rushed to turn over the table or leave early due to the long wait. we gladly caught up with our extended family and had great conversation without rushing - which was oh so nice! the overall experience was great! I have to knock a star off due to the bartender - who was all of 21 years old - who asked me "what soda do you want"....when I requested a "vodka soda" to sip on. OMG! Went to Clifford's Super Club mid afternoon on Christmas Day 2023 w/a friend. The restaurant was nearly full and busy. We had a reservation and were seated at a two top. We ordered from the special Christmas menu. Unfortunately, I wanted the Muscovy Duck but it was long gone by then. So we ordered a ribeye and a filet mignon. We ask for one medium rare and the other medium. Both came back well done, tough and dry. Didn't send 'em back cuz wait staff seem to be run off their feet. The entire meal, including soup, salad and sides, were absolutely dreadful! Didn't expect haute cuisine, but yikes! For dessert we asked for two slices of pumpkin pie. Only one left in entire restaurant. So one of us had to settle for a measly slice of dry, mediocre apple pie. And don't get me started on the interior. While I understand Clifford's is an old, supposedly historic restaurant, the walls, floors, tables, woodwork, windows, bar, etc. and worse yet, the food, are extremely tired and dated; and not in a good way at all. It certainly is not now, if it ever was, a genuine, old school supper club. What I experienced was the long, neglected carcass of something that was. Too bad current ownership hasn't/doesn't upgrade. Why couldn't they bring both the interior and menu into the 21st century. We came here for Easter brunch. The prime rib was juicy but didn't have much flavor, fortunately the horseradish was ok. The ham was pretty bad looking and my son who tried it said it didn't taste any better than it looked. The breakfast sausage links, the fried shrimp and the desserts were pretty good. After that it's all downhill and pretty quickly. Mashed potatoes- runny and probably boxed Gravy-gross Scalloped potatoes- definitely boxed and bland Frozen boiled veggies-not delicious I could keep going but I think you get the drift by now. I think things could have been improved upon with cooking the food in smaller batches instead of the monster chasing dishes they used for everything. If I could give 0 stars I would! We had a large group which I made reservations for. Most of the group went for the all you could eat crab legs . The bread basket was stale . What they called a ribeye was not a ribeye it was like a bottom round steak. Everyone's steak was tough, tasteless, and very fatty . The seafood platter was cold and tasteless. The soup was also al full tasted like they used water and bullion cubes ! The dumplings tasted li ke flour and where very dense! The only flavor was a lot of pepper! We also waited 2 hours for our food to be served! Also all the he food was cold and tasteless the coffee was even cold ! Went to Cliffords for a fish fry on my husband's birthday. It was not a good experience. We went early, around 5 p.m. we were seated and waited at least 10 minutes for a waitress, even though there were at least 6 people standing around. She put in our drink order. We sat close to the bar and saw our drinks sitting there for at least 5 minutes. When the waitress brought them over she had a plate of food in her hand. She asked if we needed anything and I said, "...a menu?". She looked puzzled and walked away. I thought she had left someones plate on our table. On it were pieces of fish, fries, coleslaw, etc. We had never put a food order in. The fries were soggy and cold, the fish thin, with tough chewy breading and dry fish inside. After awhile she asked if we wanted a few more pieces. Since I didnt like what was given initially I said "yes, that would be better". Got more of the same crappy fish. Didnt eat anymore. The good thing about Clifford's is that they do fish fries every night of the week. The food is good. There is an AYCE option. We ended up bringing home part of a fish fry and part of the broasted chicken. Again, it was solid food. It's greasy, though, super greasy. I didn't notice it much when I was eating it, but when I reheated the food the next day it was clear how greasy everything was. This is an old-school establishment with lots of brown and wood decor. There's a large bar in the center and ample seating throughout. Maybe we were here on an off night but the bartender was less interested in serving customers and more about complaining about her dating life to her friends. Drinks were strong and this is a good place to get cocktails. Clifford's is one of those places, like Zaffiro's, where the bartender doesn't take food orders even if you're seated at the bar and so you end up with two servers--one for the bar and one for the food. read more

Almost everything was terrible! Waited forever for the food. Items that should have been crispy were soggy. Mashed potatoes ice cold. Service poor. Fish fry had an odd aftertaste. Clam chowder was a gelatinous mess without clams. Broasted chicken was rubbery and overcooked. On a positive note, the wine was decent , the crackers weren't stale and the water was ok. It smells like a porta John. The dishes are dirty. The food is decent, but the smell of the restaurant ruins your appetite.

The food was horrible but our waitress, Sara, was fabulous. She made the experience not so painful. This is not a Super Club.
