Ive been going to golden mast for more than 25 years. This is the first time i was disappointed. I always order the lobster. It was cold when served. My quests were also disappointed as there food did not come to the standard that i or them come to except from the staff. Old fashioned Inn on Okauchee Lake famous for its Sunday Brunch at $40. Four of us sat in a window booth and enjoyed choosing items from a breadbasket, sipping champagne, eating lachs, bagels and cream cheese, a vast platter of eggs, bacon, sausage, meats, shrimp and a fruit plate. More than generous aount of food, but much had to be thrown out. They woulld have been better off to serve half the amount and then bring seconds if desired. A great variety of desserts. In general, the quality of the food was decent, but not superior. The setting is great, but we wouldn't return for $40. Diners are better off choosing the Breakfast at $26, e.g., which gives much of what's in the $40 offer. read more

This review is for a private event we held at The Golden Mast. Our non-profit organization needed room for 250 attendees, and from the first planning meetings we found Jackie to be knowledgable and prepared in every way. The pricing was very appropriate and we were able to explain our hopes and found that no issues were experienced. We were able to setup the day before, which was a true gift. On the day of the event we found everything in order as hoped, including the audio/video equipment with two screens, tables and linens for our auction baskets, as well as a breakfast that served quickly and while the food was still hot. There is lots of parking and every request we made was handled with ease and a professional response. We plan to return for our next event. read more

Fantastic Saturday dinner! An old world ambiance and next time I plan to come back earlier in the day to enjoy the lake view. Made a reservation in advance and were seated right away. There were certainly open tables so walk ins could certainly be possible. Tons of options on the menu so there's something for everybody. Worth keeping in mind that entrees come with bread and cream cheese spread, soup or salad, and a starch, so you can likely skip over the appetizers. I tried the German Combination and was thrilled. A true tasting fest with thin and crispy weinerschnitzel, a burst of flavor in the beef rouladen, the salty and extra crispy duck, a side of spaetzel, and a side of vinegar cabbage. We had a birthday in our group and the server was kind enough to bring a shaum torte to celebrate - the merengue base was a bit hard but the topping was light and fresh. Went for their Sunday Brunch and was delighted! You can either do à la carte brunch/lunch or all you can eat. Our table decided to do all you can eat. We got started off with fruit and bagels and lox with pastries. Then we got served the mains, eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and everything was so well seasoned and delicious. Then you have the option of going to the buffet for pasta, omelettes, waffles or dessert. Food was great, service was great and we had a really nice table by the window which looked out over the lake. I love the inside with all the decor, it's all so fun to look at. We went there on a Thursday for our anniversary. The hostess was super nice. We then waited about 15 minutes for a waitress to come and take our drink order. Then it was about at least 10 minutes for drinks to come. We ordered the 6 oysters for an appetizer and were given 5. Our waitress went to the kitchen for another one. After a while our soup and salad came. Once we got that - it was an hour and we still didn't have our steaks. our reservation was at 7 - it was 8:40 and we still didn't have not have our dinners. Once they came, we were very disappointed. My husband had prime rib and said it was the worst prime rib he ever had. I had a ribeye and it was okay but definitely not delicious. The waitress took my husband's plate to the manager and they actually comped his dinner. It was not a great experience and we won't be returning. read more

A table making flaming Bananas Foster. Service is leisurely. You don't feel rushed. Been a looong time since I've been here and first time having the Sunday brunch. Reservations needed as it was packed! Lovely decor, and ambience, as always overlooking lake and service with a smile. This is definitely a place to relax and not rush. Small cuts of meat consisted of beef, turkey, ham, which was enough for me but I would think some might think they were too tiny portions but I like to try everything so it was perfect. Love the hot fresh pastries, pasta bar with all of the toppings, nice chilled, shrimp cocktail, and plenty of desserts, including bananas, foster. bonus, champagne, and another beverage is included. read more

went out to celebrate my mother in laws 90th birthday with my wife. the birthday girls and my wife's dinners were good. I ordered the breaded shrimp and after starting on the second piece I noticed there wasn't any shrimp it was all just breading. I pointed this out to the wait staff and she placed an order for a second plate. I was amazed to find the same thing with second order. I have tried twice to contact the restaurant via their website and all I get is cricket. How disappointing they charge 35 dollars for breading. I told them as part of the second attempt if I didn't hear back I would start posting all over social media. Guess they don't care. Too bad this used to be a great place to dine. read more

April 18, 2026 Had a party of 10 for dinner at 5:30 pm. Four of us ordered seafood chowder it was served Lukewarm. Informed server of this so they could tell the chef. Steaks came out and one was just warm the other 3 came out over cooked (were ordered med rare, they came out med well). 2 steaks were sent back. They did comp us 2 sample platters of dessert. Golden Mast is a perfect place to take someone for a solid meal and great views! We couldn't get over how pretty the lake looked while eating. The service was fantastic as well! I got the seafood stuffed roughy and really enjoyed how light the fish was and the stuffed inside was delicious. Then the sauce on top made it great! I had to doc them a point because David's tenderloins tips had barely any beef on it! So that was a bummer. But overall, I personally really enjoyed my meal so I am still going to give it 4. read more

First time here. They were somewhat busy when we sat down. My husband and a mutual friend were with me. Had a beverage in the bar, prior to dinner. Beautiful place on a beautiful Lake!!! I had a craving for a fish fry, which I haven't had one in years! So, I had the cod, my husband had the perch, and our guest had the roasted duck. Our fish fries were nothing special. Came out barely warm, but we waited quite awhile, and we were all starving. Our guest said his Duck was dry. Service was a bit slow, but she was busy. I'm glad I finally got to try this restaurant!!! I am recommending the Golden Mast from afar, based on the experiences of friends and family over many years. It is located in a beautiful park-like neighborhood overlooking the fabulous Okauchee Lake, about 30 miles west of Milwaukee. A diverse menu with German influences, and a fantastic Friday fish fry. Hello all; Well here I am again on my round of restaurants and this one is a TOP Shelf Place!. I had called for reservations as you will need them and I advise you to do this at least three days in advance. It's very family friendly with their hudge beautiful hall and a very senior friendly wonderful front area near a hudge fireplace. There is also a nice upper area all with views of the lake. The food was hot and fresh. Best service. They are always around you making sure your coffee cup was not dry. The bar was so warm and old school class. Went for a Sunday champagne brunch with a group. There were stations to make your own pasta combo or an omlette station. There was also a table of pre-plated desserts. The table was also served a breakfast platter, turkey/prime rib, and cocktail shrimp. It was so much food and very good. The only downside was the timing. Sunday brunch is amazing. Sunday brunch when the Golden Mast is decorated for Christmas is something not to miss. Our group had some food allergies, and our waitress made sure to accommodate each and every one of us. She took the time to explain how things work, where to go, and who could eat what. On Tuesday nigh, we tried this restaurant after 6years of avoiding it due to a poor experience while entertaining 10 employees. Well, I will start with the restaurant was not super busy. The bread was nice and warm, the cheese pate was very tasty. Seafood chowder, was cold, sent it back the waiter said "this one is warm, but I don't think it's hot"! Well we did not eat it, we brought it home so we can warm to the perfect temp. The stuffed roughy, was good again it was not hot, the double sweet potato was good, but not hot. The perch strips were cold and tough and the spatzel was lukewarm at best. I am unsure of why the food was not served at an appropriate temp. I also am not sure that the food would temp out if temps were taken in the kitchen before serving. Not sure we will go back for another try read more

It has been a few years since we last ate here. We again brought my parents who have enjoyed coming here for special occasions. We had an early reservation on a Thursday night. Since we were early we were able to take advantage of 1/2 priced drinks at the bar before 6pm. The bartender made a very good Old Fashioned. After a short wait we were seated. The hostess apologized for the wait due to a shortage of staff. This is becoming more of an issue at many restaurants. We got a great seat in the window overlooking the lake and the boat launch which during busier times can be very entertaining. We could have eaten out on their patio which we checked out afterward and looks to be a great space. Our server was very professional and really hustled due to shortage of staff. We started with the bacon wrapped shrimp with risotto - while pricey they were delicious. I had the seafood chowder which was a good but a bit too thick. The others had the spinach and beet salad with hot bacon dressing which got a thumbs up. Two of us ordered the stuffed roughy which was excellent though some might think there is too much butter sauce (can there really be too much butter?). The side of spaetzle was solid as were the garlic mashed potatoes. The salmon entree was also a hit as were the chicken cutlets. Too much food so no room for desert. I won a $50 gift card to Golden Mast and decided to go one evening after work. To make sure I used to entire amount, I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and three cheese risotto appetizer along with the roast duck and spaetzle entrée. For dessert, I got a piece of key lime pie. I liked the bacon wrapped shrimp, but wasn't a huge fan of the risotto. I'm not sure what was in it, but there was something mixed in that looked maybe like mushroom. I wish the description on the menu was a little more descriptive about the risotto since that's half of the appetizer. The shrimp bisque was good. I've not had bisque before so I don't have a basis of comparison to other kinds. For the bread I was given butter and strawberry banana pate. I wish I hadn't bothered with the butter on one of the pieces of bread because the pate was wonderful and should have been the only one of the two that I used. I LOVE duck and theirs was fantastic. I'm pretty sure it was just duck from Maple Leaf Farms, which you can buy in some grocery stores, but I can never seem to get mine to be as crispy on the outside and tender on the inside as Golden Mast did. Bravo. The spaetzle was good, but could have used a little butter drizzled on top. I liked the key lime pie, I just wish it didn't have the syrup (maybe raspberry?) on the plate. I thought that distracted from the flavor of the key lime, which was unfortunate because I love key lime and didn't want to be distracted from it. The view from the dining room of the lake is amazing. Their patio wasn't open when I visited, so maybe I can enjoy that on a future visit. read more

We just had dinner tonight (if that's what you want to call it) to celebrate my birthday. My husband had a rib eye steak and I had surft and turf. His steak was raw in the center when he asked for medium well. He sent it back and the microwaved it too get more done, which made it tough and not very flavorful. My lobster tail was overcooked and dry and rubbery. Both steaks were covered in gravy and burnt mushy mushrooms. There were also overcooked veggies on the plates. For $200.00 I expected much better and that was after they took $25.00 off the bill. We will not be back. read more

Ambiance is nautical and it has an amazing view of Okauchee Lake. It has a boat launch. The food is excellent. I have had awesone steaks here but fridays visit was for their fish fry. Served family style they bring out potato salad, coleslaw, cod fried fish or broiled Cod, french fries, potato pancakes, applesauce, and tartar sauce. Its all you can eat so they bring more of whatever you run out of. Prices are reasonable. Service was EXCEPTIONAL. Our server had only been there a month and he did a phenomenal job running for our large group of 11 people. Desserts looked good but we all got ice cream drinks. They are big - maybe share with someone else. And those were great too. Nobody left hungry and everyone was VERY happy with the food and service! read more

Food was bland. Mushroom ravioli had no flavor and the veggies were not cooked all the way. All you can eat cod was mediocre. Chicken Gabrielle was flat and tough. Took two hours to even get our food once we sat and it took an additional hour and a half to be sat because they skipped our name on the waiting list.
