    The Cliffs at Princeville, Kauai

Kauai alone is amazing, and our condo at the Cliffs, heaven! We didn't want to leave Kauai! So comfortable with all the amenities of home. Ocean view, lots of windows, comfy bedding, lots of space and friendly people. The North Shore has lots to offer and one week wasn't enough time. There is a market close by, a gas station, restaurants, and tranquility.

If you want the perfect stay in Kauai, come here! Went with family, and honestly you can just do so much at this hotel and surrounding areas. You have multiple pools, multiple hot tubs, pickleball courts, recreation rooms(loaded with interesting books, puzzles, games). There are food trucks a 5 min walk away too. The condos were so spacious and clean, we had a wonderful view of the ocean from our balcony. Condos come with beach chairs you can use when out and about exploring the island. Alanne was incredibly helpful. She is so sweet, and let us know the great beaches and great food places to visit while we were there. Very well maintained and overall so pleased with our stay, would recommend to anyone!

Kitchen area. Rusted drawer pulls, sticker on the oven. Decently stocked with dishes.

The condos are outdated but clean. The property has an amazing view. The reception area is strange. It smells strong and odd like old perfume, and there is very random decorations. The woman who works at the front desk seems like she is mad at people. It made it difficult to feel welcome and ask questions. The pool is small but very pretty. Overall it's a beautiful place but needs some serious love to make it lovely. More in photo descriptions...

We just stayed here for a week as a part of an exchange program with our own timeshare. The rooms themselves are spacious, though like everyone said they are slightly dated, and there is no AC. Personally, I didn't mind that there was no AC, since with the windows and doors open and the fans going there is a nice breeze. That said, if you have a room with a loft where the hot air rises, it can be hard to sleep up in the loft. The grounds itself is beautiful. The kids enjoyed the pool and the sports equipment rentals. I appreciated the beach equipment in the units. The staff are all very friendly, and I loved watching the sunset from a grassy area on property. Overall, it's not going to blow you away with over the top luxury, but it's nice for a getaway, and it fits in with the rest of the Kauai vibe.

We were so happy with our short stay at the Cliffs. Beautiful property. Our 1 bedroom condo with the pullout couch was extremely spacious. The master bedroom was especially big. The kitchen was beautiful and well stocked. We had a nice patio lanai overlooking the grass. If you're lucky enough to have a room overlooking the ocean, it is beautiful. Definitely take a few minutes to take the botanical garden walk. The one downside was that with one person in front of us getting help, we had to wait at least 20 minutes for our turn to check in.

Let me tell you right now I am not a super happy camper. I booked this vacation little less than 2 months out. Had some points that if I didn't use them I would lose them and this was the only destination in a spot I wanted to go as a first "major" trip as the pandemic was letting up. I called the front desk multiple times (at least 8x) over those nearly 2 months to ask if they had a shuttle from the airport. I kept being told a flat no, but I kept checking thinking maybe it was just because of covid..... turns out they just flat don't offer a shuttle. Why is beyond me, they have more than enough people on staff to offer at least twice a day runs to and from the airport. You would also think if they didn't offer a shuttle the conversation would go more like.. "No, we do not have a shuttle... but we highly recommend you rent a car as that is the easiest way to get around on the north side of the island. We do have public transportation, the bus is about $2 cash only and the bus stop is about 25-30minute walk." Apparently that is too much hospitality to ask for... at the absolute least they could offer a shuttle to the bust stop! It's like a 10 minute golf cart ride. I landed and had not rented a car because once I go to the property didn't plan on venturing too far. However, there are NO Ubers, little to no Lyfts, Taxi's are about $115 one way... locals have even taken to renting out their own cars, but make sure you are traveling with proof of insurance if you plan on doing all that and all I saw required a hefty deposit! After about 45mts I was able to get a Lyft (after 2 previous cancellations).. it was $66 one way and I gave a nice tip since I was relieved to just be able to get to my destination at this point! The driver was shocked but grateful! This is most definitely not the concierge service I am used to when staying in resorts. They have a packet, but its photocopies of photocopies of photocopies so the quality is not ideal. The information isn't really in a succinct format. Something (at this point) was better than nothing! Front desk is not 24hrs - please make note of this! They at least offered bikes that you could rent $5 per hour or $10 for the day.. and they are first come first serve. I was up at 7a and waited 1.5 hours at the doors to get one of these bikes. A handful of staff drove by on their golf carts but not a single one stopped to ask if they could help. I picked up the phone at the side of the doors to call an inquire and could barely understand the person that answered. He told me to call back in 2 hours... keep in mind I am at this point standing in front of the front office using the courtesy phone... just wow! I stood there because I needed to get a bike to get to the grocery store so I could lug groceries back for the week. In this time, a handful of fellow guests stopped and checked in on me and even offered me a ride to the grocery but told me I would have to walk back of course because they were heading out on their days. I was so warmed by the fact that at least some people on the island (fellow travelers) had a heart and some kindness trying to help me out! I also got more tips and tricks for the week from another guest, more than I got from the front desk the entire time I was there. Front desk finally opened and I signed the waiver and grabbed a lock, but had to wait an additional 20-30mts for maintenance to arrive for the key to the actual shed........ (yeah, you read that right), grabbed a cruiser (their only offering at the time) they charged me $10 for the day and I was able to bike to the grocery store about 8-10mts bike there (slight incline) about 5mts ride back because it is all downhill! In the middle of my stay (with absolutely no warning at all) they changed the price to ONLY hourly charges and removed the daily charge, even though they brought out more bikes including some mountain bikes. *straight face* I had to fight the incline on a cruiser and now they hand out mountain bikes.. the nerve! LOL I had a whole day planned which required a bike and my entire plan got derailed. I brought this up to the hostess that checked in on me and they offered me $10 daily rental again for the NEXT day.. which did nothing to rectify my plans. The rooms themselves are fantastic. I had a 1 bedroom/2 bathroom unit and it was phenomenal. Very roomy, very clean, fully stocked with beach chairs, beach towels, laundry detergents, etc. Even when its raining its still 80 + degrees.. It only rained the first 1.5 days on and off and never for very long.. So doesn't rain that much or I got lucky! I had windows and sliding doors open the WHOLE time, it was fantastic!!!!! My last gripe is checkout is 10am the staff should not be waiting outside the front door at 845am or milling around back and forth in front of the porch talking loudly while guests still have the right to be in their rooms packing and waiting for their rides. Lodging itself 100% Customer Service 30%

The pool area, they also have a spa for adults only and another for teens and adults.

The Cliffs has been remodeled. It's not like a 5 star resort, but it is in a good location and has everything you need. The only problem we had was the TV. At times we couldn't get it to work snd had to call maintenance. The guy was frustrated like we were because there were no instructions fir the remote for which buttons needed to be pushed. When the maintenance man came he showed me what ones to push for it to work. I liked our room, the kitchen was well stocked. They also have a washer and dryer with two small boxes of detergent and of bounce. The views from the property are beautiful, you can see the ocean and they have lots of chairs to sit on to enjoy the views.

We stayed here recently at an Airbnb on this resort property and it was great! The resort has full reception services to add to that vacation vibe and help as needed to make the most of your time on the island. They offer discounts on tours that can be arranged through concierge, but we didn't take advantage of these services as I'd already done my research in advance for our excursions during our stay. Pool and hot tub alongside a full activity center including pickle ball, tennis courts, shuffleboard courts. There was an adult hot tub which was nice to be nestled away from the kiddos and a 2nd pool. When we arrived on Thursday they were hosting a cocktail hour which was a great way to set the tone for the week by grabbing a complimentary drink and heading over to the Adirondack chairs to relax and enjoy the beach view. The property is in the middle of resort row in Princeville. You can rent bikes and ride along the foot path around the golf course across the street. I went for a run which was lovely. It's near walkable beaches, the golf course, restaurants and the Princeville shopping center for convenience to pick up those last minute items at Foodland. Our little spot was a garden facing open studio with a full kitchen, generous patio that felt private, and access to a washer and dryer. No A/C on this property so getting the hang of cross air flow is important. We would totally stay here again. Clean, organized, just enough perks but nothing too pushy knowing it is a timeshare property.

I recently stayed at this location for one week. The reason I'm posting this is to make sure the next visitor doesn't have this experience. I tried talking to housekeeping and management and Jim the manager was very condescending and very smug. Offering to buy me new wine glasses.......really! He also asked me if I traded or was an owner. He also offered to find me a different room, but that never happened. This was one of the worst experiences that I've ever had in the last ten years of traveling to Hawaii yearly. My pillows were the saddest pillows I've ever seen and the bed was so uncomfortable and even slide down on one side. They did bring me newer old pillows and they had a strong chemical odor and I couldn't use them. I had a friend that was supposed to stay with me for two nights and I canceled on her because my room was so bad. The carpet was the worst part! The pool chemicals are so off and my eyes burned for days. The flood in front of the water dispenser was a total slip and fall situation and all they needed to do was dig a small tench for the water to go into the garden. This place has serious issues and I feel the the guests that come here because my week was horrible. On my last day something happened in my bathroom and it was covered in water and everything was soaking wet. I had no idea what kind of water it was and the front desk didn't care one bit. There was no sense of urgency and 45 minutes later I had to go physically look for help. Everyone that works here seems to be blank faced and kind of run down, I'm sure they get a a lot of complaints. There is no air conditioning, which is fine except you can have a window open because of The noise. Units being worked on and I was told it was just one day and it was all week. Please fix this unit and replace some of the things in the pictures and for goodness sake clean the carpet! I stayed in Lawaii at the Lawaii Beach Resort for a week and had not one issue. Shame on this resort and it's management.

No A/C IN THE ROOMS!! The advice is to leave all the windows open. Hard to be intimate with your special someone with all the windows open.

They don't offer yoga mt rentals at the front desk, does anyone know if yoga mats are available in the gym? I'd prefer not to fly with yoga mats, but if necessary I will. Thanks!

The two mats that are there in the gym are very beat up and thin. There may or may not be ones at the front desk, not sure. I know for the yoga classes the instructor brings more.

We loved our 2bedroom villa, while we had plenty of space the property itself is small enough that walking anywhere doesn't feel like a chore. Here is where we fall off and don't quite hit the 5 stars. Our villa was super clean. Toilets weren't fully cleaned upon arrival and they definitely didn't do a better job during our stay. The couch and blankets had a few mystery stains that grossed me out. Cocktails and the restaurant are insanely expensive. We are talking 28 dollars for a cocktail. Additionally the staff member Nancy (pool attendant) was rude to me. I wasn't able to locate a dry chair in the sun at 4pm. so I asked an employee for permission to use a chair near the cabana. Permission was granted but she wasn't happy about it. So asked me to move, while I didn't have issue with moving I did find it rather unprofessional of her to yell at me for not reading the sign and while she offered to help me when I asked to a dry chair on the sun she walked away ranting about my lack of awareness. To make matters worse the same employee had a separate issue with my husband in reguarda to pool towels. When I tried to address it with the front they weren't very helpful. All in all we did have a great week there and hope to go back.

Your marriage will thank you. This was our second trip in two months and we're already planning a trip back. Background: We've been wanting to check out Kauai. In the past three months we've stayed at the megas at Poipu, local places at Kapaa and by far the very best is Hanalei Bay. We looked at the megas and upon exploring via car we found the Hanalei Surfboard House (https://hanaleisurfboardhouse.com). We meant to do all of the hiking, snorkeling and events we did from the other two visits and somehow we just relaxed, swam in the Ocean and walked in the little town and went to local beaches. Hanalei Surfboard House: We stayed in the "Love Shack"! Wow how fun and what a charge! The outdoor shower is amazing although there is a full bathroom. The private patio is fabulous. I can't say enough about this great find. Simon the owner is a record producer, and the memorabilia in the Love Shack bungalow is worthy of a museum. The bedding was great and the bed fabulous. There is a really cool grounds kitty that may follow you to the beach. If you're not into cats she somehow knows as my husband is allergic to cats and she never approached him. We did stock up at Safeway and also we walked back into town with flashlights and tried some little restaurant of which there were many. We walked on the beaches and had morning coffee on the beach (which is across the street literally). We always felt perfectly safe and didn't feel like we were pushing the locals out. When you stay here walk down the beach to the pier as a fun jaunt.

This cottage is a perfect vacation rental if you like to feel the unique qualities of the community…read moreyou're visiting. HMBC's openness lets you enjoy the warmth, the wetness, and the beauty of Hanalei Bay in a low-key way that lets you feel like you really live there. Maybe I am reacting to our trip to the Princeville St. Regis hotel for sunset cocktails. That beautiful resort felt like placeless luxury. The views were Hawaiian, but the grand style of the rooms, plentiful central air conditioning, upper-class airs, and property layout were suitable for anywhere from the Caribbean to Mexico to wherever... My preference is to stay where the local touch is celebrated. So..., HMBC is not endlessly elegant, it's a beach cottage. But, it is definitely my type of place! HMBC's front lawn leads directly to a very swimmable, less crowded area of Hanalei Bay. We walked 4 miles roundtrip on the Bay every morning, crossing the two local rivers coming into the sea at different places each day as the sands shifted. We took our first swim of the day on our pre-brekfast treks, and decided that the placement of the cottage was enough to ensure a wonderful vacation. The building is smartly designed with a large picture window in the living room. You can sit on the couch or one of the two reclining chairs, and watch the water, surfers, and swimmers go by. Moreover, the furniture and decorations feel well-designed, thought-out, sturdy and in excellent shape. Nothing is beachy, sticky, or falling apart. Suzanne, the owner, knows how to add touches to the property let us feel even more comfortable and able to relax. The building is well maintained and clean, which is not unique but noteworthy because those basic qualities are not universal in Hanalei! There are also nice, if somewhat common extras like a reasonable selection of pots and pans, microwave, toaster-oven, a charcoal BBQ, wide-screen TVs, full-size new refrigerator, comfortable chairs, washing soap, beach towels, extra towels of all types, and other reassuring amenities. We also liked the lock-box on the porch. That arrangement was new to us, but it let us lock up, swim, and not worry about losing the key on the beach. The books, games, and beach-gazing telescope in the living room were truly above-and-beyond treats. So was assortment of beach toys and mats and chairs that were in excellent shape and felt clean. We even appreciated the unique photographs on the walls and the other artwork that was unique and felt just right. We traveled with friends who rented a cottage across the grass from us. Their place is owned by a different member of the extended family that owns 5 adjacent waterfront units (and more elsewhere in the country). We felt lucky to have chosen HMBC because our owners seemed to understand what boosts a vacation. Our cottage had a gas stove, which I much prefer over the electric one our friends had. Adding gas must be costly, but it let us enjoy cooking more. Plus, there is a washing machine and gas clothes drier at the cottage which was both handy and free ... our friends had to pay several dollars to dry their clothes at an underpowered electric drier. (Come on owners of the other cottages... you're charging $400+ a night and then you make your guests put in quarters to wash and dry their clothes?? I am sure glad HMBC's washing and drying were not nickel and dime annoying extras. I mean, do you want to carry a bag full of quarters from the mainland in case you need to do laundry? Geeze!) Another special at HMBC is its lovely, hot-water plumbed, outdoor shower. We also appreciated that our kitchen was stocked with matches (our friends had none) and lighter fluid (again, they had none). Our friends even had to ask the housekeepers cleaning other cottages for more toilet paper. You're given the owner's telephone number is case of any problems. We had an incident: the clothes drier started smoking with an electrical smell as soon as we turned it on one morning. Suzanne had someone check the problem that afternoon and, when it turned out the motor had burned out, had a new drier installed the next morning. She was very, very responsive, came out herself to make sure we were okay, and ensured that the minor problem was solved. That visit, by the way, is when we discovered how delightful and friendly Suzanne is! Overall, in our opinion HMBC is excellently laid out, well taken care of, and, well..., as good as it gets.

Views of Bali Hai from your front lawn? If you want the quintessential Hawaii experience, then stay here! The Moon Beach cottage is on the rustic side (think gecko visitors)--but that's part of its charm. Do yourself a favor and use the outside shower as your primary one (it's amazing to look up at Bali Hai as you lather up). The bed is a lot more comfortable than it looks, which is a big plus in my book. One night it got a bit noisy as some kids were partying on the beach--but everyone else we ran into was nice and respectful (and quiet). Sitting in the living room on the rattan furniture with the windows open and watching the surfers and the waves is pure heaven! It's one of the lesser-expensive places in Hanalei, but at $1,950 for the week it might be above some people's price range. But you are right on Weke road (multi-million-dollar real estate)--in walking distance to town and with direct ocean views. Also, the house sits on a big lot. There's even a neighborhood cat and dog who come by from time to time to say hello--just welcoming you to the neighborhood with that ol' Aloha spirit. Skip Poipu. Stay here. (You can thank me later...)

The hottub was really beautiful with the waterfall, but there was a kid swimming in it and splashing for over an hour, so I had to wait to enjoy it. Staff should be walking around and making sure everything is in order. They have an abandoned swimup bar, which looks absolutely terrible. To me, it ruined the ambiance of the rest of the pool area. Even if they don't serve alcohol there, it should still be setup for something. Having access to a gold cart going up and down the hill to the beach was such a godsend with our stuff! They were easy to call and arrange both ways. We didn't have to wait very long and the view was beautiful. The beach itself is gorgeous and they have a ton of chairs for their guests to use. Not quite sure I would want to pay their prices to actually stay here (especially with how nitpicky they are based on other reviews), but I was happy for a chance to hangout by the pool for a day.

My husband and I stayed here for a week trip in the summer. I'm not sure how they can categorize…read morethemselves as a resort as you do have to leave the property to get basic needs such as breakfast and lunch. The two restaurants on the property open at 3pm, and are actually closed two days of the week (Wednesday and Thursday were the closed days when we were there). We had to go to the 1 Hotel Resort for breakfast and lunch, which isn't far and can be accessed through the hotels golf cart transportation system, but defeats the purpose of the resort being the destination itself. And if you plan on going anywhere, you NEED a car, there are no Ubers or Lyfts around. We felt stranded when we arrived from our flight at lunch time, starving, and learned the restaurants are closed for another 3 hours, until 3pm. It does have a coffee shop that has drinks, cold and hot homemade sandwiches and snacks for on the go, but the hours it's open depends. The flyer they hand out says it's open from 7am-4pm but we just watched them close today at 1:30pm. There's a QR code that says to scan for live hours, which tells me it doesn't follow the 7am-4pm time frame at all. How would we then know when it's open to plan for it? Thankfully we got in before they closed for a lunch snack. That said, the operating times that can be inconvenient and if you want a proper sit down meal it's not the place. I found myself confused at times, wondering who this place was for because at times I needed food or simply a place to sit, everything seemed to be closed, all the way to the detail of seating areas on a busy dinner night. It's almost as if this isn't a resort meant to be open or helpful for guests living there. Most of the staff is welcoming, I saw one review mention some animosity towards tourists which I could definitely sense at the front desk with one of the ladies, but the rest of the ladies were nice, I think it was just her. 1 Hotel definitely has better service, where they actually critically think to go above and beyond on getting you what you need, though that's expected due to the price difference. The room was clean and had what we needed, full kitchen, master bed and a separate space with a pull out bed that was useful for our family who stayed with us to help with our baby. Overall, I'd rethink calling this location a resort, it's nice but a bit misleading.

THIS "RESORT" IS ROACH INFESTED!…read more I stayed there for 4 nights - 4 long terrbile days and nights. It was absolutely roach infested. I reported the issue to the front office and they didn't care. There was one employee that was sympathetic so she offered me a $146 credit to reimburse me for my "groceries." Ummm. That's not good enough! This resort absolutely ruined my Hawaiian vacation! I slept with all the lights on (but you'll see in the pics that the roaches came out 24/7) I never unpacked my bags and kept my luggage zipped tight for fear of bring roaches home with me. The unit was full of roaches - definitely NOT what you expect when paying $636/night. To top it all off on my last day I asked for an extra 45 minutes at checkout so that I didn't have to stand in the parking lot (where there is no shade and nowhere to sit) in the hot sun for an hour waiting for my taxi. They said "absolutely not" and that check out is 9am and I had to be out at 9am. Crazy! Given the fact that I paid a fortune for a roach infested room you'd think they'd have tried to do something for me. But nope! Nothing!!! The staff there is very rude - the woman they call Aunty something is the absolute worst! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! IT'S GROSS!!! I'd give it zero stars if I could!

The way the bathroom laid out I could have all lights on and my husband could still be asleep in the dark. However, maintenance should do their rounds . There was a bee's nest out side out kitchen window. One landed on my husband in the living area. He did some investigating and found their home. Yikes. The pool are is small but you know what it is never full bc everyone is out about in town. The staff up front is so friendly! They always remembered our room when we came in. My husband golfed at the Makai and they have lender clubs for free. You can also borrow Beach umbrella, bikes and more. They have stamps if you want to mail a post card. NOTE: bring some of your own dry detergent. Everything is expensive on the island. To buy more is $1 of their generic wash. Bring your own cooking spray & seasonings. Glad I did . Their version was $13 . Bring bug spray. I did get bitten. Leave you jeans at home. It's in a great location. Pays to go to the info meeting they gave out prizes. We won a 2 for 1 plane ride tour of Kauai . Enjoying our stay!
