It was a well needed guy's trip. We wanted something not to fancy. We arrived late was greeted with aloha from Chanel. Super friendly, funny and kind. The view was amazing and room was well kept. overall experience 4 1/2 stars.

Majestic! No photo in the world can capture for you the cool refreshing trade winds that accompanies this scene

Lovely vacation condo in a near perfect location in beautiful, Kapa'a. Stayed here a few days while visiting several friends of ours who live in diverse parts of Kaua'i. We are no frills people so we're rarely disappointed ... this location is prime! Central to access to the northern part of the island, quick access to the airport and good access to the south and west (just avoid what the locals call "the Kapa'a crawl" at rush hour). Absolutely mesmerized by the prevailing trades that made it so cool and breezy ... excellent for sleeping or just relaxing and enjoying the view. We didn't have time to test the pool, sauna or jacuzzi but we will try to hit these next time. Honestly with so much to see on this island, pool seems so trivial. Everyone was awesome and everything was great. Definitely appreciated the new standard operating procedures where housekeeping doesn't come to your room unless you call. We don't need housekeeping daily as we are trained adults who can make our own beds, wash our own clothes and take out our own trash. This aspect gives the resort a homey feel and less of a hotel. Definitely will try return on our next trip to Kauai. Mahalo for reading my review.

My wife and I had an amazing stay at an amazing island (Kauai). This is one of my favorite places on Earth. New employee Sini so personable, high energy, big smile and truly engaged. Great hire by Worldmark. We spoke the day I checked in for about 5 minutes and on my last day I walked into reception and I asked one question to her. What is my name. She took a moment to think about it and got it right. With the volume of people that are in and out it is very hard to remember people but she has exactly what I would seek for my business if she lived on the mainland. Great hire WM please take care of her she is a keeper. Your grounds crew does an incredible job as well I spoke with a few and watched them start there day at 7am to make there guest memorable with the grounds and the views! Mahalo Brent

Technically I give this 3.5 stars. It's an older unit. However, it is very clean. We had just came from a week at Worldmark in Kihei and our unit there was quite dirty, so the cleanliness was very welcome. The grounds are beautiful. It's on the water, although on a non swim able beach. They do have a nice grassy area where you can lay out and look at the water, and a nice pool and hot tub . One day when we were there the pool was quite cloudy. I'm not sure what that was about. Didn't swim that day. Now... they do not have air conditioning here. When I'm in Hawaii, I generally don't use air conditioning. I enjoy that. However, it was problematic in this instance because the dryer vented INTO the unit. So anytime you want to do any washing or drying, your unit would get very humid and there was really no way to get rid of that. I had several sleepless nights because we needed to wash our suits and towels at the end of the day. It just got hotter and stickier than it needed to be. The beds all sagged a bit. There weren't many families here. Not an issue for us... I particularly appreciate it not listening to a chorus of Marco Polo all day! It was quite serene. Now, the town is not fancy but it is centrally located. You can easily go to the northern or southern part of the island in a reasonable amount of time. I think I would probably stay in this area again next time. I'm not sure about this particular property for the future because I did find I didn't sleep well here, which was disappointing.

This was our first time visiting Kauai. We stayed in a 3rd floor condo. The grounds and pool were nice. I spent many evenings and mornings sitting on the lounge chair overlooking the ocean. No beach access, but you can walk down a little ways and there is a small sandy area. Bike trail access right next to condo. Staff was nice and accommodating. The ONE thing that would keep me from coming back is the bug problem. Ants all over the unit and the roaches . They sent someone to spray the unit but the whole complex needs to be fumigated. Yes, the unit had no AC which sucked, but sitting outside on the balcony or on the lounge chairs was a relief and as other said, you get a good cross-breeze through the unit. I can handle the heat and humidity but the ant and roach infestation is not acceptable.

    Great location.

Waves crash against the shore drowning out most other noises. We are separated from the ocean by the pool and a small strip of sand. View of the ocean is amazing from up on the third floor. I watched as light of the sun began to illuminate the darkness and it appeared from the ocean. It began as a slight golden glow until night became day. The birds came with the sun. A good variety patrol the area for leftover bread Maggie left on the patio. I spotted a cardinal, sparrows, pigeons, and mynah birds. I listen to the birds singing. Their songs mix with that of waves. This resort is peaceful and relaxing. There is no AC but a breeze blows through the patio to the front door which you can leave open due to the locking screen door. We stayed in August and while it was warm I didn't mind the lack of AC. The lcd tv has HDMI ports in the back to plug in a laptop or gaming system. Washer and dryer is in the unit so you don't need to pack a ton of clothes. Full kitchen has limited spices, pots, pans, and utensils. You will need cooking oil and maybe more spices. There is no elevator but I'd love staying in our 1 bedroom + loft unit on the 3rd floor again.

We have been a Worldmark owner since 2006 and this is our fave resort. Of all of Worldmark. This location is prime!!! I been reading these reviews and wonder if they got the wrong resort. Worldmark must keep Kapaa shores! All rooms , every single one, is an ocean front , not just ocean view room. It's so gorgeous. It's not fancy, but it's clean and so beautiful! Rooms have new appliances, Fresh paint, comfy bed w crisp linens and fluffy pillows. I stayed at pono kai for one night and couldn't wait to rush back to Worldmark Kapaa shores. We got ocean front beach and lovely shady trees , soft grass , beautiful blue-tiles bottom sparkling pool. Our room had a washer / dryer unit inside. Totally spoiled here. I had 3 hard to please teenagers on this trip , and all agree that this stay was heaven. Oh and the complimentary Kona coffee in our room was strong and delicious. Very accommodating staff! We love you Worldmark Kapaa shores!!!!! We are so sad to leave today and will rush back soon.

We have been here for 4 days and it has been wonderful. Spectacular sunrise viewing from our Lani, the pool is refreshing after a balmy day. Staff is friendly, condos are we'll equipped, grounds are well kept and we loved the 3.00 movie rentals. It's walking distance to Safeway which is a huge plus! The bad, no air conditioning but we did have fans and if you opened the patio and the front door you had a great breeze in the room. the down side to that is everything in the room stayed damp including our sheets, (no linen changes by the way). The added bonus the light switch in the bedroom gave me a not very nice jolt more than once and as you can see, Day 5 of our vacation and we have assorted fungi growing in the bathroom. Over all the place is nice and the ocean view is priceless, it's in average condition for a condo built in 1974 with what appears to be minimal repair work done when they have water damages. but opt for spending a little more and stay in a location with AC is important to you.

We booked a week at Mele Kai (March 11-18) for two families, including kids, one of whom was celebrating a birthday on the island. Nearly $8,000. On March 10, with a massive Kona storm bearing down on Kauai, we reached out to Garden Island Properties to discuss our options. Our VRBO messages went unanswered. Our phone call went unanswered. When we finally got a text response, they told us the rain is what gives Kauai its nickname "The Garden Island" and suggested we bring "a flexible plan and rain gear." We weren't being difficult. We wrote back and told them we weren't opposed to being rained on -- our concern was flooding, loss of power, or being stuck on the island. I asked them directly: "Will my family be safe during this massive storm in your place?" Their response? They told us, "I don't mean to downplay the news coverage, but this is fairly typical winter weather for Kauai." They assured us the rental was "not located in a flood zone." Fairly typical winter weather. Not in a flood zone. Here's what actually happened: The Governor declared a STATE OF EMERGENCY. Roads in Poipu -- the exact neighborhood of this house -- were closed due to flooding. Ho'one Road and Ku'ai Road, right by this property, were shut down. The islands were hit with up to 44 inches of rain and 135-mph winds. Schools and government offices closed. Over 120,000 customers lost power across the state. Beaches were closed under brown water advisories warning of sewage overflow and hazardous bacteria. The Red Cross and Salvation Army mobilized relief efforts. Residents were evacuated into emergency shelters. So much for "fairly typical winter weather." So much for "not in a flood zone." And here's what makes it worse: the forecast they themselves included in their own message showed 90-100% chance of rain with thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 50 mph for EVERY SINGLE DAY of our trip. Their own evidence showed this was not typical. They sent it to us and still told us to come. We never made it to Kauai. We couldn't. It would have been dangerous and irresponsible to bring our families -- our kids -- into that situation. Garden Island Properties refused any refund. VRBO has been contacted twice by phone, was promised a resolution email both times, and as of this writing we've received nothing. $8,000. Gone. For a house we never stepped foot in, on an island we never reached, during a declared state of emergency that the property manager called "fairly typical." This is not a review about the weather. Nobody controls the weather. This is a review about a property management company that had every piece of information -- including their own forecast -- telling them this was a dangerous, historic storm, and they still chose to encourage a family with children to fly into it rather than do the right thing. I asked them point blank if my family would be safe. They couldn't even answer the question. They chose profit over safety. Period. If you are considering booking with Garden Island Properties, understand this: when things go wrong -- and in Hawaii, weather can go very wrong -- this company will not have your back. They will take your money, send you a canned aloha, and wish you luck.

This is the case with the people at Garden Island Properties. A week prior to our departure, we sadly had to cancel our travel to Kauai Island because our daughter was hospitalized. I had already paid in full for our three week rental (60 days prior to our departure date) and I did not purchase insurance. This could have been the end of the story because everyone had already been paid. But, the people at Garden Island Properties worked tirelessly to find another renter so we could recover some of our money. The humanity they showed, and the effort they made on our behalf has made me a loyal customer, and I plan to use them to help me with future rental properties going forth. I will also purchase travel insurance!

I listened to others get the standard offer to get gifts to sit thru a pitch. My room was studio 3rd floor, 44 steps to top. No kitchen, but microwave and fridge. Interesting note is that AC unit is connected to sliding door. If open, it shuts off. Patio is nice, overlooking grass area with BBQ spots and tikis. Grill equipment is in room. Main lobby has bar and restaurant. Coffee in AM and juice is early PM. Good middle spot on the island so you can go north or south when exploring. Due to (prior?) homeless issue (I had no issue), they only have ice at the main desk, also you can get other items like coffee refills there as well. Nice location, clean, it is a humid location because it is near the beach and it rains regularly. There are sometimes they leave remodeling items in parking lot, which fills quickly after dark, and the outside trash can also fill quickly. Lots of chickens, which you can't avoid in the islands. Walking in to the lobby felt like we were at a premium resort and definitely put us in the right mood. There's a bar and Hukilau Lanai right in the lobby. You can make reservations through Open Table for the restaurant. There's no valet that I saw when we pulled up or a bellboy to help with your bags. Or at least, I didn't see one or ask for one. The check-in process was normal, but after checking in, you are directed to go see the Concierge. I waited a good 15 minutes just to find out that since I'm a member, he doesn't have access to my account and was asked to come back in the morning to talk to someone that does. I wish that all Shell properties would stop this practice altogether. It's already enough that we spent hours traveling to this beautiful property and want to get to our rooms to unwind and freshen up. We do not have time to sit through some kind of pitch. Because I didn't see the Concierge the next morning, they sent me a text and also placed a door tag on my door to remind me to come see them. First off, you're on vacation and do not want to spend an hour or two sitting through some kind of pitch or upsell. I don't know what the point of the wristbands was for, besides not having to carry the room key with you, it was pointless. So I would ignore going to the Concierge altogether. I don't know what was in the Welcome package and didn't want to fall in to that trap, so I just ignored having to go see the Concierge. The property grounds had 1 large pool, 2 smaller 1.5' deep pools and a jacuzzi. There were also a couple of grills and a bar by the pool, which was great. And I saw them being used throughout our stay. There's a nice walkway to other properties or to the beach. Unfortunately, there's no beach access right on the property. Parking was free and you didn't have to hang any parking permit on the car. One big drawback is that there are no elevators. So you'll have to lug all of your items up the stairs. We stayed on the 3rd floor and had our luggage and stuff we bought at Costco. I wished they would have turned on the A/C in the hallways to help with the heat. It was stuffy by the time we got to the top floor. Luckily, the A/C in our room was working well. Our suite was nice and big with all of the amenities needed for our stay. We even did some laundry on our last day and there were 2 packs of detergent provided. We had bath & pool towels in the room. WiFi was just ok, it wasn't the fastest being at 20mbps up and down. It's fine for 2 people, but could bog down with more devices. One of the best things about this location is it's right across the street from the Coconut Marketplace. You'll be able to find pretty much anything you need there. We stopped by here on our way out to Waimea Canyon and also picked up dinner at the store in the deli area. Was also able to grab some souvenirs and shopping on our last day. We've only stayed at Poipu our last 2 visits, but would definitely come back here again. If you decide to come here, ignore going to the Concierge please and don't believe that you need to get their wristbands. We were able to walk around the property and nobody stopped us.

Paul showed me how to pick when it's ripe (yellow color). I didn't have to buy fruit, I had so much organic star fruit, it was great! I had an amazing 7 night, 8 day stay. It was so quiet and serene. It's right on the river. Other guests were very nice to me. Every one is pretty quiet and keeps to themselves. It is well located 12 min from the airport. It is on the east side of the island, so you are pretty central to the north and south portions of the island. Nearby is a nice beach within 2 minutes - Lydgate Park. There are chickens everywhere on Kauai. But Paul thought of it all, the room comes with ear plugs. I enjoyed the roosters - it was a pleasant change from city life. I would like to return and stay at the larger cottage - the Ohana house next time! I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a safe, quiet, serene place to enjoy Kauai.

We had to park on the side of the entrance road. No daily room cleaning. They charge you up to $30 depending one what kind of housekeeping service you need for that day. Office to check in is not located on the actual property but down the road at another hotel called the ISO.

However, due to a last minute flight deal, I was unable to get into a resort I wanted due to lack of rooms and high prices. I thought a condo with a kitchen was an OK compromise, but I was REALLY worried about choosing this place because AFTER I paid for the nonrefundable room, I read many poor reviews. The day before arrival I received an email with my check in information. There was no mention of having to check in at a different location like others mentioned. I worried about not "officially" checking in anywhere, but no one called or came to the unit so...? 219 had a portable window air conditioner, which I was thankful for. Even in November the temp reached 85 each day with near 90% humidity. It wasn't quite enough to cool the bedroom the way I wanted, but it made it bearable. Like others said, the unit was not sparkly clean like one would expect when paying such an exorbitant cleaning fee. It was good enough though, and nothing made be feel grossed out. We also had a washer and dryer, but it had a small load capacity and they only gave us 5 laundry pods. That felt pretty cheap. There were plenty of dishes, towels, toilet paper, etc, and they were clean. Others mentioned the "second bedroom" and the crappy sofa bed, and I have to agree that they could really up this place by replacing it with a real bed. Particularly because not only is the AC in the same room (and not able to be moved, so it was the coolest room), but because there is no TV in the bedroom. We attempted to use the sofa bed and gave up because it was awful. Beach access: No, there is none directly from the property, but there is a gate the leads immediately to the adjacent (and really nice looking) property next door. The beach is not suitable for swimming, but like I said about the last place I stayed, there are so many other beaches on the island that you cant really complain. Plus, no swimming equals very few people. My biggest concern, and only gripe, was that on our first morning a man just WALKED into the unit. We were both in bed and, alarmed, I yelled, "Excuse me!!!" He said sorry and quickly backed out. Our door was shut and locked, and so I called Vacasa. The guy seemed totally uninterested and I don't even know if anyone came to look at the lock, but we regularly checked it when leaving after that it was always secure. All in all I would stay again. Four nights cost just under $900 and having the full kitchen enabled us to skip paying for breakfasts, dinners, and snacks, so that was a great way to save. I would stay here again if I were looking for a budget place. Oh, and last but not least: we were in the building closest to the road and didn't hear any traffic at all. Maybe it's because we had the hum of the AC.

The kitchen has modern, high quality appliances. I can only wish my fridge/freezer was this big at home. Ice maker kept with our demands. The onsite restaurant, Oasis By The Sea, had good food and fabulous drinks. Drinks poolside is hard to beat. The beach is enjoyable, but not for swimming. The pool more than makes up for that. My little one loved the kiddie area in the pool.

We arrived early in the day so we're not able to get into our room but the staff held our luggage and recommended a few places to eat and watch football. Once able to get into our room which was on the 3rd floor looking over the pool area but far enough away from the noise. The room was quite large with a great kitchen area with granite counter tops and nice appliances. Also a large bathroom with tub and separate shower area as well as two toilets. It was a one bedroom. There was a small lanai off the bedroom and you could open the sliding door from the living room. There was also a washer/dryer in the room. The view from the room looked over the whole pool area which has a winding pool that you can walk around over to the main pool. They also had gas grills to use and many people did. One note is if you open the sliding door in the living room area and don't match up the line in the top of the doors, the air conditioning doesn't go on. We thought the air conditioning quit. After calling the front office someone came within an hour. Told us about the line. We also had an issue with the washer and after a call to the front desk a maintenance person was there within an hour. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very helpful. Giving us recommendations for a place for fresh fish to grill. There is also a small restaurant which we tried a few nights for some drinks and appetizers. The views of the ocean are great. There are also chairs to sit on the beach area and enjoy the water. The beach is not large but very clean and nice to relax at. There is a shopping center across the street to buy things for the condo. We will stay here again next time in the area.
