Was there all last week & the resort was gorgeous! Favorite place to stay ever! Everything was perfect! We loved Happy Talk Restaurant overlooking the pool & all the tropical vegetation. The grounds are breathtaking including the pool & spa. We had a full kitchen & bought groceries for breakfast & lunch when we left the airport. We had a beautiful view from our condo! The resort is exceptionally quiet & peaceful even though there's a lot of people there. We loved it! Didn't have any problems! Can't wait to go back! read more

My husband and I stayed here for a week trip in the summer. I'm not sure how they can categorize themselves as a resort as you do have to leave the property to get basic needs such as breakfast and lunch. The two restaurants on the property open at 3pm, and are actually closed two days of the week (Wednesday and Thursday were the closed days when we were there). We had to go to the 1 Hotel Resort for breakfast and lunch, which isn't far and can be accessed through the hotels golf cart transportation system, but defeats the purpose of the resort being the destination itself. And if you plan on going anywhere, you NEED a car, there are no Ubers or Lyfts around. We felt stranded when we arrived from our flight at lunch time, starving, and learned the restaurants are closed for another 3 hours, until 3pm. It does have a coffee shop that has drinks, cold and hot homemade sandwiches and snacks for on the go, but the hours it's open depends. The flyer they hand out says it's open from 7am-4pm but we just watched them close today at 1:30pm. There's a QR code that says to scan for live hours, which tells me it doesn't follow the 7am-4pm time frame at all. How would we then know when it's open to plan for it? Thankfully we got in before they closed for a lunch snack. That said, the operating times that can be inconvenient and if you want a proper sit down meal it's not the place. I found myself confused at times, wondering who this place was for because at times I needed food or simply a place to sit, everything seemed to be closed, all the way to the detail of seating areas on a busy dinner night. It's almost as if this isn't a resort meant to be open or helpful for guests living there. Most of the staff is welcoming, I saw one review mention some animosity towards tourists which I could definitely sense at the front desk with one of the ladies, but the rest of the ladies were nice, I think it was just her. 1 Hotel definitely has better service, where they actually critically think to go above and beyond on getting you what you need, though that's expected due to the price difference. The room was clean and had what we needed, full kitchen, master bed and a separate space with a pull out bed that was useful for our family who stayed with us to help with our baby. Overall, I'd rethink calling this location a resort, it's nice but a bit misleading. read more

I am trying to speak to a manager at this resort for my cancellation unfortunately Erin Deschaine will not allow me to speak to anyone but her at the resort. Booking.com emailed the resort asking for a free cancellation since it is only one day past cancellation date. She refused to do it and refuse to let me speak to anyone else at the resort. The phone number only goes to a record recording and you have to wait for someone to call you back. I would never recommend someplace that only takes your money unbelievable. read more

This review is solely based on the pool and beach access as I did not stay here. Pool is absolutely gorgeous! Unfortunately, it was freezing cold so I couldn't actually enjoy it. The hottub was really beautiful with the waterfall, but there was a kid swimming in it and splashing for over an hour, so I had to wait to enjoy it. Staff should be walking around and making sure everything is in order. They have an abandoned swimup bar, which looks absolutely terrible. To me, it ruined the ambiance of the rest of the pool area. Even if they don't serve alcohol there, it should still be setup for something. Having access to a gold cart going up and down the hill to the beach was such a godsend with our stuff! They were easy to call and arrange both ways. We didn't have to wait very long and the view was beautiful. The beach itself is gorgeous and they have a ton of chairs for their guests to use. Not quite sure I would want to pay their prices to actually stay here (especially with how nitpicky they are based on other reviews), but I was happy for a chance to hangout by the pool for a day. read more

This was a great place to stay on the north shore. Everyone at the resort is so friendly and helpful. The grounds are kept up beautifully. They have two pools, the largest has beautiful landscaping and waterfalls and can get crowded but the smaller pool was mostly empty and a great place to read undisturbed. There are pickle and tennis courts and we saw lots of people taking lessons. There is a fire pit overlooking the bay. They have a private beach that is shared with one other resort. It's a bit of a walk downhill to the beach but they offer golf cart rides back up, if needed. They rent beach stuff (snorkeling, chairs, boards) down by the beach and there is a bar down there, as well. There is a funky little workout area by the beach with weights and bars. We stayed in a room with a view of Hanalei Bay and the mountains in the background. It was so beautiful it looked fake! Our room was like a hotel room. We had a balcony with a tall table and chairs. My only complaint was that they do not allow microwaves in the rooms. We had a refrigerator but no way to heat up our leftovers. They have two restaurants on property. Both are open in the evening only. The Happy Talk Bar and Restaurant has great views and the food is decent. They also have live music every night. It seemed pricey at first, but then you realize its in line with the rest of the restaurants on the island. Wikipizza is the other restaurant and it is actually priced pretty well and the pizza is good! We ate there once and took it back to our room a second time. I would stay at the Hanalei Bay resort again. read more

I would have done 5 stars if it was free parking. It's a great location, restaurants are not great, but mostly disappointed with having to pay for parking. Room was clean and enjoyable with two balconies, kitchen, dining area, 2 bathrooms, king bed and pull out couch in living room. Service is nice and can't beat the view! The ultimate Hawaiian vacation resort in Kauai. It truly fulfills the island feel when staying here. The room sets the vibe & feels Hawaiian. The views looking upon the Na Pali coast line & Hanalei Bay are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The pool felt very exotic & the family loved spending long hours poolside. My son especially loved the little hideaway cave behind the waterfall & the man-made beach. The pool is absolutely ginormous too! It has a large section of shallow area & the shape allows you to have privacy. There's a dedicated section that is walled off within the water next to the beach section that is perfect for kids. Nice & shallow. The hot tub is a decent size & we didn't have any overcrowding issues like we've experienced at other resorts. Surprisingly too as this location has dozens of buildings! The grounds are huge & the setting is perfectly Hawaiian. Shuttles to the beach easement & Koi fish feedings for the kids. You'll also experience Pop-up surprises throughout the week that the entire family can enjoy. Our favorite was the shave ice pop-up while sitting poolside. It was free! Although we had one issue arise during our stay while the resort was replacing roofs. The staff was very empathetic & made things right for us after some roofing material started to fall onto our balcony. I also feel obligated to warn anyone staying here that there is a hefty nightly fee that they charge. Even after paying for your booking well in advance. One week's worth of fees can set you back over $600. So set that aside before your stay so you aren't blindsided by it. Other than that, this resort makes for the perfect Hawaiian family vacation! Stayed here in a private airbnb rental. Beautiful resort, excellent service, clean grounds, breathtaking views, private beach, tennis, pools, snorkeling. Be aware of resort fees etc. They were transparent, but they add up. Must stay location on the north side. Beach was a short downhill walk, with golf cart service available to drive you back up if necessary. We just walked it, it was a nice pathway. If I am being honest a lot of the negative reviews are bewildering to me, including people who stayed off premises at random airbnb locations and are complaining they couldn't use the resorts private beach? Why are you leaving a review here? Makes no sense. Also, if you can't find food you like on the resort, try taking your car (has four wheels, goes beep beep) anywhere on the beautiful island of Kauai for amazing eats. read more

We rented an Airbnb nearby with "private beach access." That "private beach access" was a short walk through this hotel's grounds and down a hill, with a beautiful view the whole way. Apparently, the hotel has changed its policy, so everyone needs a hotel wristband to be on their grounds. They told us we needed to leave and walk a long way down the street and down another street for a different entrance. They told us we could drive there, as there was a parking lot. Yeah, a parking lot with seven spots! We couldn't park, so we went back and walked. It was quite a walk, longer and less scenic than what the Airbnb promised. It would have been a lot more convenient to simply cut through the hotel's grounds. We were not planning to use their pool or do anything disruptive, and the fact we were turned away with all our equipment was a real bummer. We spoke with the neighbors at the Airbnb, who are very upset. They have lived there for 20 years and said they are very upset about this change (understandably so). read more

HB resort is a beautiful location & not far from Hanakapi'ia Falls. Special thank you to Ronya Roch @ the front desk for being such a warm ray of sunshine and so welcoming. The resort is absolutely breathtaking and lush + just a short walk from its pool to the beach. The service was excellent and the view from the balcony was pure nature and birds with mountains in the background. Extremely rural yet close To everything you need (grocery store, bars, restaurants). * my only disappointment was the young lady & the older woman that attend the host stand @ Happy Talk place (HB resort restaurant). They were extremely rude and not at all in alignment with the great hospitality and service @ HB resort. I understand some ppl might not like their job, but the way the treated / spoke to other guests & myself was totally unacceptable. I, however, was too busy being happy & grateful to let their negative energy affect me. All in all, when I go back to Kauai I am returning to Hanalei Bay Resort. What a great visit! This resort needs to be updated so badly. Yes it's grounds are stunning, but the restaurant is closed, the swim up bar was having "licensing issues?" or something and we couldn't get a drink, and Happy Talk, the bar ON PROPERTY apparently isn't part of the hotel so you can't get a drink to take down to the pool? Also the rooms aren't insulated and the walls are so thin we could hear everything our neighbors were saying and the roosters woke us up at 4am, we needed to buy earplugs to sleep. The keys are ancient and the doors are SUPER thin it sounds like you're outsides. If you're looking for a nice sunset view, sure this has it. The grounds are beautiful and well Maintained. But if you're looking for easy beach access (it's down a huge hill next to construction for the hotel next door), and good sleep, this isn't the place. We went to Koloa Landing in Poipu for the first half of our honeymoon and with the Costco package discount the price was the same. We wish we had just stayed down there and done day trips to princeville. Not to mention our Parrish Collection room smelled like feet and was pretty shabby. Stay in a nice condo elsewhere or down in Poipu/Koloa. We really don't know what our "resort fee" is paying for besides cheap towels since one of the benefits of a resort is food and drinks available and you have to drive ten minutes to princeville to get food. read more

This review is for the staff at this resort. We resided in the community right outside the resort and ate at the resort often. The resort is the closest beach access for us on foot (parking is a nightmare otherwise), when we tried to use it, we got stopped by a staff member who told us we can't. We tried telling him the above and that it's a pubic right to have beach access at which point he threatened to call security on us. Outraged, we went to the front desk and told them the above and they asked us to leave the property. I understand it's not easy being in hospitality industry, but this is not right. We will never stay here! I feel sorry for the community that lives outside this resort and can't access the beach on foot. read more

I love this place! The service is 5 star. Beautiful pools and tennis courts and shuttle golf carts to the beach and parking lot if you need it. It is on a hill with incredible ocean views. The beach is lovely and not crowded with plenty of shade available. The downside is that the units are privately owned. Some are better appointed than others. The only way to know what you are getting is to read the reviews for your particular unit. The furnishing is up to the owner. Ours had nice beach chairs, fins, boogie boards and a beach umbrella that broke. The bureau was old with swollen drawers that drove me nuts ! The staff here give you a 5 star experience. The front desk staff have their Aloha on from start to finish and it never gets old. The golf cart drivers are sweet, personable and helpful. We will without a doubt stay here again. A word to the wise, there is no food here! The Happy Talk Lounge has very limited hours (3p to 9p). Stop at Foodland before you check in. There are plentiful selection of prepared food. There are grills a BBQ areas but party time is over at 10p. read more

We stayed here for a week in January. I'll start with the positives: the rooms were clean (although a little smelly from what imagine is humidity), the pool is pretty, the pizza place on the property is delicious, and the staff we interacted with were all friendly. The beach at the bottom of the hill is also nice and there are lots of tennis courts. Okay, now the negatives: the pool was absolutely freezing and was unusable. The hotel next door (we dipped our feet in) was nice and warm and heated. Don't understand why the pool at Hanalei Bay Resort is not heated. The entire week we were there, the hot tub was closed for maintenance. Not great in January. The beach is a pretty steep walk down the hill which was hard for my dad. You can call for a ride up and down but be aware of this fact. The only place on the property to buy snacks or drinks (water, coffee, etc) closes very early. There was one day where we couldn't eat at all bc the little store was closed and driving off property on that day was a hassle. The coffee shop definitely needs to stay open longer. Looks like they used to have a pool bar, but that also was not operational. All in all it was okay, but very inconvenient for the price. read more

Stayed here three nights for the first time. Dec 29-Jan 1, 2023. The grounds are beautiful, no question about that. Pool was nice, hot tub was great, plentiful chairs to be found. The pool bar was not up and looked like it had not been opened up for sometime. It would have been nice to be able to order drinks by the pool. Instead you had to walk upstairs to buy a drink. The cocktails were not allowed to be brought to the pool. The 10 minute walk down to the beach was nice. Golf cart rides were available as well in case you couldn't walk back up or unable to. Our room was in the Bougainvillea building. Great location, Close to parking and the pool. The rooms were comfortable but definitely could use a little updating. The lanai was great, just wished it connected with the adjoining room. read more

Beautiful place, and reasonably priced (we got a 3-bedroom condo for slightly more than the price of one hotel room at a fancy "big box" resort), and the condo has literally about 5 times as much space. Each bedroom has its own balcony and bathroom, very nice for three women (myself, my niece, and my sister) traveling together. The on-site restaurant is still closed, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby in town. The beach and the pools are open and back to normal, and the swim-up bar at the pool is open as well. read more

We stayed here in 2018 and it was fantastic. This year, not as great. Swim up bar closed since COVID. I wanted to show them a calendar to remind them it isn't 2020 anymore. Open the bar. Spa jets broken. Waterfall broken. I sat in a chair to put my sandals on, chair ripped apart. I only weigh 200 lbs. Restaurant not open until 3. The sink had more water pressure than the shower. The shower was clogged. The headboard in the bedroom fell off when my son got into bed. Big plank of wood split off behind it. The curtain tracks haven't been lubed since Reagan was President. Other than that, the property is beautiful, the staff is friendly and the location is great. Just needs upkeep and better management. read more

But they have a restaurant that doesn't open until 3 and the beautiful bar at the pool is not open, you have to walk upstairs to a bar which I was originally okay with but I was TURNED AWAY, because I had no shirt on. I had shorts on, shoes and a bikini and I was TURNED AWAY. I was at the pool so what do they expect? What's the point of being a resort in Hawaii if I can't grab a drink while in my pool attire? What is going on with Hawaii? I own a timeshare in Maui and and have traded it to go to all different islands and timeshares. Last year I was told at a different resort I had to pay for parking! WTF is that about? This year I traded for this resort Hanalei Bay Resort, and was charged over $600 dollars extra for parking fees, Daily fees, a one time $50 fee and what ever else they could make up and charge you. Food is very expensive. Grounds are beautiful but the rooms are just ok, stove was so old you can't read the stove dials, shower curtain is short water seeps out. Jacuzzi closed and nobody was working on. Swim up bar closed. What has happened to Hawaii?? If you are trading your timeshare stay away from this place, they basically are punishing you for not being a owner! Trust me stay away or pay over $600 bucks on top of your trade in. read more

The horrible experience started at check-in. The hostess gave us keys to two rooms which confused us a but, little did we know it was two former hotel rooms made into a suite so it had two doors. Then we couldn't find the room, not information on how to get to it or that you had to walk through the back service area of the restaurants to find the pathway. We were also not informed there would be no maid service. No mention of any of the amenities or hours they served food or that they would be closed for a private function one night. Not a big deal but in that area, your options are limited. The last straw that broke the camels back was when we went down to try and use the hottub. No one told us it was broke, or that it had been for a while. Why would you make your patrons figure that out the hard way? We were basically just harassed for not wearing our wristbands around the property constantly. The biggest thing I can say about the property is just a lack of communication. The property itself is great, but they should be telling you all this, not making you find out on your own. I even wrote a review they solicited a couple days before checkout and they didnt follow up with it or try to make it better. Oh and they charge you to checkin, who does that? I had an amazing time with my husband here and will definitely come back so our kids can enjoy the beauty of this resort, the views, pool, and beach. Our first floor unit in the Bougainvillea building was a "garden view" room, but had such amazing views. We had 2 full bathrooms, 2 front entry doors, a privacy door in between kitchen and master, 2 closets, 2 patios, a master bedroom, living room, and full kitchen and pantry. The trash and linen service were great and efficient. Note that the unit had its own water heater, so the hot water is not unlimited. The room had a musty smell to it and I found a little bug on top of the foot of the bed. Overall, it was clean. Parking is good and gets full in evening but it was also near the ice machine which we can fill our cooler before heading out for the day. Beach access is amazing and easy to walk to for physically capable people but there is a shuttle. Paved walkways all around the resort are perfect for joggers/walkers. The lobby is gorgeous and welcoming. read more

Rude staff that drive the golf carts down to the beach!!! I have stayed at HBR numerous times before. This time we didn't because we wanted to stay in a different location. We decided to take a trip down to Pu Poa beach today (NOT a part of HBR but a public beach which HBR has a trail down to). Whilst on the beach out of nowhere a guy working for HBR on a golf cart starts YELLING in a very rude manner to "get off the reef". We were stood on a rock! Even if we were on the reef I feel the way he spoke to us in such a disrespectful way is not a good representation for HBR. Lack of general politeness and people skills is apparent. We will not Be returning to HBR after that. Such a shame as we were just last night talking about staying there next time! They need a serious shake up of staff- evident also from other reviews here. read more

Please review all comments and reviews from others, before choosing The Parrish Collection. I am not alone in having this terrible, stressed out vacation at these resorts! This location was a "upgrade" from The Parrish Collection Management team. It was just as bad as the first. So, basically the Parrish Collection Management team couldnt care less if your inconvenienced or not as long as they have your money. We (Family), learned it the hard way. Yes, the views are INCREDIBLE. But, once we started trying to settle in from being moved from their first terrible roach infested condo, this location had dirty linen, dirty sheets, left over remnants of someone else's stay; food packages, soiled towels and sponges left in kitchen and bathrooms. The maid service supervisor" Kim", blamed the Parrish Collection Management team and vice versa. No one ever called us to inquire if everything was ok. Not until the very last day we received a call and apologies from Management. This is one location you may want to reconsider before staying. Look into ALL reviews and complaints. Do your homework or it'll cost you your hard earned money, your sanity and most of all, your Vacation. read more

I wish I could say all good things. I wanted to like this place badly. But for what we paid, substantially more than other accommodations in the area, it really fell short. The pool is beautiful. The beach, a short walk away, is remarkable. Loved it. That's about where the compliments end. The room we had had odorous towels and shower curtain, a broken screen door to the patio -- which also needed some renovation -- and bugs; one morning we killed probably a half dozen of them. Our room also had a connecting door, with thin walls, so we could hear our neighbors all too well; I realize that's common for a hotel, but at a resort of this magnitude? The staff is also hit and miss; some are very kind and helpful, others are a little passive aggressive. The icing on the cake was that the only restaurant open on the resort closed down without notice (at least to us) on our last night, leaving my wife and I with nowhere to eat. We have a sleeping baby so we couldn't leave the resort for the nice meal we were hoping. The restaurant was closed because of a party, which had music bumping so loud it made it a rough night of sleep for our little one. It's a beautiful property, but there are a lot of misses here, especially for the price. I would head elsewhere. read more

In order to get to the resort, you have to drive through a maze of housing. The checkin is quite beautiful with lots of fish and a fireplace welcoming environment. The resort is beautiful and has great views, however, it needs to have a pool bar. There are food options here the happy talk restaurant, and you can find a review on that elsewhere. It has one king size bed and it has a pull out couch and it's really small but really nice. If you have a family of five or bigger, then it is probably not the right resort for you. At the entrance there is coffee and water for those that need coffee in the morning, but there are beautiful views everywhere. The walk down to the beach is got some elevation, however, it's very doable. For those that like tennis there are a lot of tennis courts but is $25 per person for a racket the balls come with it. The pool is awesome and very beautiful. The hot tub is 104° and is quite spacious for lots of people but not a ton of shade. It is a BYOB, so bring what you would like to drink, and in the evening there are torches that lights up in the evening. read more

The condo we stayed in was beautiful and was also privately owned. LOVE the private owners and the effort they put into their place. The resort is SADLY being ran by people who apparently love to lose money. Why just WHY oh why would you have a fabulous pool with a shut down pool bar?? SO LAME!!!! Excuse me for wanting to swim up and order fish tacos and a fabulous Mai Tai on vacation. SO UNINTELLIGENT to keep that shut down. Also, their hot tub is always out of order. So on rainy days not only will you not get to chill eat and drink at an amazing swim up bar, you can also count on being told that their hot tub is out of order. YUCK!!! Let's talk about food now!! So their ONLY restaurant that they offer doesn't open until 3pm. AGAIN - why?? You are losing MONEY!!!!! They open their restaurant to the public!!! So not only is parking a nightmare ... so are wait times for the ONLY restaurant they offer. So very NOT resort like!! Hire 10-20 energetic employees to get that swim up bar open. Get the restaurant going by lunch AT LEAST.. and put your useless golf carts to work!! Nobody needs your pretend security driving around asking for a wrist band. News Flash.. you open your SINGLE restaurant to the public. So why ask for a wrist band?? Wow!! You are literally losing money from simply not being able to accommodate what "resorts" typically have zero problem doing!! There is a dinky pizza place which was at one time a huge restaurant.. it's empty now and offers a sign for pizza. SO UNDERWHELMING!! The pizza is gross by the way. The gym?!! Hahahaha!!! How hard is it to hang a fan for air flow? How hard is it to order yoga mats without poop stains on them? How hard is it to offer a gym that is not stale smelly and totally gross?! Sheesh NEW MANAGEMENT get up in there and make this place a real RESORT!! Bummer because we loved our condo and the private owners.. but Hanalei "Resort" you need a few people with higher intelligence running that place. Not a resort at all. read more

Wow ! It was our first time in Kauai for our honeymoon and we stayed at the Hanalei Bay and the Sheraton resort Villa. While both hotels were nice, the Hanalei bay was the most magical part of our stay. It has lush grounds, HUGE rooms, the most beautiful sunsets on the island, a quiet hot tub and pool area, and a private walk down to a small SPECTACULAR beach. The staff were so kind. My husband and I had the best time staying here! It is beautiful, clean and has a perfect location on the North Shore, near cafe's, groceries store, restaurants, etc. We felt super safe during COVID. However, what really made our trip and motivated us to write this review was the kindness, great service, AMAZING Cocktails and devoted attention that Matt provided for us every day at the pool, he is awesome! Hanalei Bay Resort - Best Piña Colada! - Resorts Near Me - Princeville, Hawaii

When you come to a resort do you expect privacy, a sound resistant room, a hot tub or breakfast area ? I do. Sad to report that HBR has connected rooms with no care to lessen the sound of who's next door to you, so be prepared for screaming babies & the lovely sound of silverware clashing against plates coming from your roommate on the other side of a hollow cheap door. Want to erase the headache of that with a relaxing hot tub experience? Nope not here as the hot tub will either be broken or be slammed packed with children & other guest due to there being ONLY ONE HOT TUB ON PROPERTY WITH 8-10 buildings, the hot tub fits 1 person per building, yup only one 8-10 hot tub for let's say 5-600 people which is unacceptable. Let's run it back to privacy since while I'm writing this I hear someone getting their cheeks clapped next door or someone is pounding their skirt steak for dinner tomorrow, literally insane ! I want to love this resort but there is so much to get in line here. If you want to call yourself a resort get some privacy, have an adult section hot tub, have a breakfast lounge and don't sell half your property off to ignore responsibilities for your property. read more
