When the work was finally completed, we were left with no grass, no flowers and no plants - pretty much a barren wasteland that looked horrible. As we put the word out to landscape designers, we started to get contacted by several companies wanting to quote the work. Steve from S & L was the first to respond. He was punctual and professional at the estimate appointment, COMPLETELY understood the assignment as we described what we wanted and provided a very reasonable quote for the work we requested (he even provided us with a thorough sketch of our vision the very next day!) This was a marked difference from the other companies - some wanted to charge us just for their plan (!), some had to be chased down for a follow up, some missed their scheduled appointments and others were ridiculously high with their estimates. Throughout the planting/installation process, Steve and his team were in constant communication with us, asking us to check their progress as we moved forward so that we were all on the same page (even offering GREAT suggestions). My wife and I could not be happier with the results. We have a beautiful lawn of new sod, several beds of native Florida plants and trees and dramatic uplighting that makes our home look like it was photographed by House and Garden. During our search of contractors, we spoke with Richard and found him to be knowledgeable, honest, and conscientious. During the entire process quality of workmanship, attention to detail and outstanding customer service were demonstrated by his entire team. The location for our project posed some interesting terrain challenges, including a stepped-down path, but it turned out to be a wonderful, collaborative process. They listened carefully to what we envisioned and provided their opinions and feedback based upon their experience. They spent a good deal of time planning, measuring, remeasuring and designing the project prior to submitting the permit. Richard and his designer Brian went above and beyond during this planning/approving process to ensure the permitting would go smoothly, and it did. During installation of the project Michael and JR were meticulous in leveling, measuring and preparing the surface for the pavers. Michael in particular has an excellent creative eye and ability to see forward to the end result, so a few slight modifications could be made along the way where needed. As a result, when the rest of the crew arrived to install the pavers, the process went quickly and smoothly and the end result is absolutely beautiful, and exactly what we wanted! Richard and his team made our fire pit patio building experience a rewarding and pleasurable one. They were always communicative, respectful and pleasant to work with.
