So I was going to wait until I was back in CT to get a cut, but something told me to take a chance and check out Goodfellas. This place seems to have multiple talented barbers and a great barber atmosphere that I wasn't expecting to find in Maine. The music was diverse and soulful, the crowd was homogeneous( obviously) but quite the wide age range. Every barber seemed to take good care of each guest- as I saw multiple guys leave with different and excellent cuts. My experience was exactly what I needed, but honestly not what I was expecting. My barber communicated with me about how I wanted my cut and confidently took charge. This was my first visit at Goodfellas and we talked a bit about my time in Southern Maine. As a black male, trusting someone to cut your hair (especially in a predominately non-minority state) is very frightening.. Glad I took a chance with Goodfellas!

Instead of listening and only taking hair off the back he did his own thing and cut all my hair off my head and left me with this short, ugly hybrid of a middle part and a mohawk. He was also weird as fuck and was talking about starting a money laundering business and selling drugs as well as his history of sexual acts. Mind you i'm a child. He also tried to indoctrinate me into not going to college because it's "what the system expects me to do." Weird guy, failed to cut my hair as I asked, and still charged me 45 bucks.

He greeted us and took my son right away. He worked for 5-10 minutes just fading the back and sides of my son's hair. He was friendly and chatted with my son the whole time. Didn't go to good fellas cus they were closed and didn't have time for another week or so. I asked him to do the same haircut. Mid fade. He gave me a high fade instead. Told him to keep the length on the crown cus of my cowlicks, and he completely ignored that and cut it all. Told him that I'm growing my mustache and goatee, and he shaves my upper lip, and trims a good amount off of chin. Not only that but he shaved my under lip area without asking me. The first two photos I gave him for reference. Of me from my last cut. The third photo of Jason momoa is my beard goal. The fourth and fifth photo is what he did to my hair/beard. A few months back I booked a standard hair appointment for 11am, I had a wedding to go to that…read moreweekend & I've had a few good cuts here many, many years ago (the guy left to open his own shop - he was amazingly talented) - who replaced him was a guy who had 0 experience & he messed up my cut so for 5 years I didn't go back. Fastforward to the appointment; I arrived 15 minutes early, went inside, saw there was someone still being cut by the person I booked with - he said a few words & when 11am came around - he told me he fit his friend in & I'd have to get cut by the same guy I stopped going to goodfellas because of - & I had to wait another 15/20 minutes. Kinda unacceptable. Super Cuts quality is what I received at $35. Now if it was a simple cut, sure, I wouldn't mind - but I had been growing my hair out for at least a year & this dude butchered it & put in zero effort, again - 4+ years later. It was like a 15 minute haircut & it wasn't even what I asked for. I asked for a drop fade & the dude gave me a crew cut & didn't blend the top. I've since shaved it all off because it grew in so unevenly textured. I get it, they're the only game in town, but cancelling a time specific appointment with a specific barber to put his friend in the chair? Guy you're like 50 years old, business comes before friendship at your age & you lost a customer, again! Anyway, the quality & customer experience has fallen so far at this place, I'm sure if you know these guys you'll have a good experience, like having someone's appointment booted for you - but that wasn't my experience.
