Pretty excited to write this post.. I found a great barbershop in Maine ! So I was going to wait until I was back in CT to get a cut, but something told me to take a chance and check out Goodfellas. This place seems to have multiple talented barbers and a great barber atmosphere that I wasn't expecting to find in Maine. The music was diverse and soulful, the crowd was homogeneous( obviously) but quite the wide age range. Every barber seemed to take good care of each guest- as I saw multiple guys leave with different and excellent cuts. My experience was exactly what I needed, but honestly not what I was expecting. My barber communicated with me about how I wanted my cut and confidently took charge. This was my first visit at Goodfellas and we talked a bit about my time in Southern Maine. As a black male, trusting someone to cut your hair (especially in a predominately non-minority state) is very frightening.. Glad I took a chance with Goodfellas! read more

the WORST haircut i've ever received. I got a bad haircut and went to him to just fix up the back.... Instead of listening and only taking hair off the back he did his own thing and cut all my hair off my head and left me with this short, ugly hybrid of a middle part and a mohawk. He was also weird as fuck and was talking about starting a money laundering business and selling drugs as well as his history of sexual acts. Mind you i'm a child. He also tried to indoctrinate me into not going to college because it's "what the system expects me to do." Weird guy, failed to cut my hair as I asked, and still charged me 45 bucks. read more

Just moved up from Florida. It's tough anywhere to get a great haircut. Not perfect but one of the better haircuts I have gotten on the east coast. Very relaxing and inviting place. read more

This barbershop is honestly a hit or miss with the quality of the cut. I've had good experiences here and bad experiences here. However, The last time I came here I had a terrible experience. First off, the guy told me to come sit in his seat and said he'd be right back after he went to the bathroom. No big deal right? Just a quick bathroom break, give the guy a break! 20 minutes later... the barber finally comes out, just to give me a lousy cut that wasn't even what I asked for, and barely said a word to me the entire cut. Not to mention he was going at my head like he was holding a grudge. Words of advice: When you come here, choose your barber wisely. read more

I have heard great things about this place, and brought my son there for his last haircut. Now he is hooked. Never have I seen more attention given to my son's hair, to make the cut perfect. I went in at right around 5:30 on a weekday evening and they quickly sat my son down for his cut. They really listened to what he wanted and really went above and beyond to make sure it was perfect. Getting to perfection is not a fast event, this cut took about 30 minutes...men would take longer as they also trim the brows and shave if you want. Its really quite the place with expert barbers. I highly recommend people check this place out. It is easy to pass by in the dark if you don't know exactly where it is as they sign is not lit and they only take cash, so come prepared. It was worth the minor inconveniences to see the smile on my son's face. read more

I brought two 14 year old scruffy looking kiddos in there this past Saturday and they left looking like handsome young gentleman!! I would give this place 6 stars if I could! I moved to Maine two years ago and struggled to find a solid barber for the first year. I randomly stumbled onto their Facebook page and decided to check them out, I haven't been back to any other shop since. Every member of their staff is highly talented, extremely attentive to detail, and very friendly. I have yet to receive a bad cut from any of their staff. These guys can pull off pretty much anything; from the classics, to the modern styles, and even ridiculously detailed shave patterns. I highly recommend Goodfellas! read more

I stopped in on the way home from work today. A couple buddies told me about the one in Gorham and it seemed like my kind of place. I was greeted immediately and the guys were cool. I waited about 10 minutes, which is apparently lucky. All the dudes were bullshitting and having a good time. Ben called me up to his chair and hooked up a great haircut. Hit the beard and straight razor detail too. They enjoy what they do and it shows. Plus movies, music, and good conversation. Definitely a new favorite. read more

If you're a black man in Maine, have African hair, every three weeks or so, (or whatever your haircut frequency), going to a good barber (unless you cut your hair, etc etc) stops being the least of your problems. My only disappointment is that I didn't know about these good folks when I last lived in Maine. Super upset leaving the place. I went because i heard good reviews about it and i was getting tired with my current barber. I asked to take very little off the top of my hair, ending up basically with a buzz cut. Dont get me wrong its a good haircut, but its not what i wanted. Ive been trying to get the top of my head long, and now i have to start all over. Its like they didnt hear me or listen to me when he asked what i wanted. Usually leaving a haircut you are supposed to feel like a billion bucks lookin like a new person, this was not the case in my experience. It will be the first and last time i go. read more

I have been coming here for a couple years now and for the most part they do a great job. But It's like waiting an hour to play Russian roulette with your hair/beard. You put your name on a board and wait to see what barber you get. Most of the guys are good people and even better barbers but the minute the wrong guys calls your name off the board you already know it's not going be worth the $35-$40. Tired of getting picked by the same guy(right side-middle chair) and finding the lineup on my beard isn't even close or there are chunks taken out of goatee/beard. read more

Best barbershop in the state. Started going probably 3 years ago and can't justify going anywhere else. Every barber is talented and you'll always walk out with a great cut. Great atmosphere. They keep expanding and filling chairs to try and keep up with the demand of walk in customers. Some people are somewhat salty about this but it's the price you pay for the cut. 5 stars. read more

Their work is great and they really listen to what the customer wants. The atmosphere left something to be desired. It's like a frat house. There's always a conversation going on between the barbers, and often times its vulgar and crass. I've heard the word "retard" and "gay" thrown around more than once. Got a skin fade today from Jeff and it came out perfect. His attention to detail is second to none. If you want a killer cut finished with a hot lather line up this is where you need to go. At 16 bucks its a steal. They also sell fine cigars and muhle badger brushes and razors. So far it's the best skin fade I've got in Maine. read more

The young guy just didn't listen to me when I said not too short. "I'm an older guy and don't want one of those short on the sides and back haircuts you young guys like," I told him. Before I could say whoa, he had cut down to stubble and high on the sides, and worst of all, down to stubble on the back and high super short in the back, leaving a clump of hair on the top. The owner of the place could see that it was all wrong for me and overheard me say 'not too short' and apologized. But it will take a half year to get my hair back. He actually gave me a bald spot in the back where I don't have one! My hair is thinning a bit but after the cut it looks almost bald there. Terrible, worst haircut I have ever had in my life, and will of course never go there again. If you are young it will probably be fine for you, if you are a an older fellow who doesn't want a super short cut? Don't go to this place! read more
