Summary : The shop owner Alysia did not color my hair the way I wanted it and when I expressed my dissatisfaction, she gaslighted me and got defensive. Went to another salon where they showed me that she missed covering all of my grey hairs and my bangs were uneven. Color faded quickly even with the product she sold me and when I reached out to ask what products she used on my hair with the intent to get it fixed elsewhere, she refused to tell me and told me she should have charged me more.
Details : $455 spent. I asked for a darker brown to remove my gray hairs and I wanted to add red into my hair. I expressed concern about it fading and also damage to my hair and not wanting to use bleach. I also expressed concern about the fading of red. She sent me with a red shampoo and told me that it shouldn't fade awful, especially with the red shampoo. She repeatedly said her products were all natural and good for the environment. My hair was virgin hair when she handled it. I showed her a photo of what I wanted. I'll add what I said I wanted & what I actually got. And I'll also add what it looks like now. And I'll even add her response to me when I tried to ask what product she used so I could get my hair fixed. I used the red shampoo constantly and it never brightened my hair. And the red faded within a week.
She also charged me $15 for a bang trim when she did not even make them even or spend more than 2 minutes cutting them. When I tried to explain how I wanted them, she grabbed a large piece of my long side hair and went to cut it before I expressed that I did not want that much taken off. I was very nervous at this point and already felt like I made a mistake trying this salon out. She looked at me as if I was crazy and told me that was how my hair laid down, but I told her I still did not want her to cut that much. I'm so glad I stopped her there.
Right after seeing the coloring of my hair and not liking it, I brought it up to her. She got defensive and said that's what I wanted and that next time she will put more red into my hair. After spending almost half a grand, which I was shocked about in the first place, & for her to not even offer to fix it at no cost, I was worried how much she'd charge me again. I felt guilty about the awkward defensive talk that happened after I tried to express my concern, but since she handled my hair, I thought I'd need to go back to her to have it fixed. I tried to suck up how I was feeling and I messaged her afterwards that I loved the red color in my hair, but that I wanted more next time.
I went to another hairdresser for a bang trim and discussed my hair and what I truly wanted. The hairdresser was confused when she saw my hair and how dull it was. She expressed concern that she used bleach in my hair. She also showed me missing grey hairs that she did not cover, as well as my bangs being uneven. She told me that since my hair was virgin hair, she could have put the vibrant red in my hair without the use of such damaging products, but now that my hair isn't virgin, she wanted to know what was used in my hair so she could do her best not to damage it further.
Alysia had made me feel so uncomfortable expressing my concerns that I decided when I messaged her to ask about the products that I was just asking for a friend instead of telling her up front that I was getting it fixed elsewhere. I am not a confrontation person whatsoever, so it was the only way I gathered my nerves to reach out again. When I asked her later what product she used on me so I could get it fixed elsewhere, she refused to tell me. She told me she wouldn't give her formula for another hairdresser and that another hairdresser would need to figure it out on her own. She even told me that she should have charged me more for my hair. I am shocked that someone who runs her own business would talk and treat a client in this way. Now I am having to grow my bangs back out how I want them as well as keep this odd color in my hair for months before getting it fixed so I do not damage my hair further. read more
