I had three clocks that needed service in my house. A grandfather clock, which was about 50 years old, a mantle clock of indeterminant age, and my grandmother's clock which was quite old. Victor came to my house and looked at my 3 clocks. It was determined that the grandfather clock and the mantle clock simply needed to be oiled. My grandmother's clock, however, had Problems keeping time and one of the cord strikes was off, so it did not sound right. Victor took the clock to his house and redid all the interior works. It took about five weeks. The clock also had a big chip on it, which happened when the clock was transferred from my uncle's house to my house. They did not put any newspapers or cushioning around the clock, so it had a big chip on the top. Victor not only completely fixed the mechanical works but also the chip!! Came to our home to repair a grandfather clock that was an anniversary gift to my Mother from my Dad. Mom is 85 years old and was here when he came. I was working and not able to be here. The "repair" man did very little. He said he needed to take our clock with him and it would be over 1500 to repair or he could do a tune up in house for 800.00. My mom on a budget paid him the 800 as she was not parting with this heirloom from my Dad who is no longer with us. The clock worked for 2 days and stopped working as before. 800 for nothing. I would NOT use this company ever again Terrible service and you pay for nothing. Also - My mom called me when he was at the house. I spoke with him and he was very nervous and rude. A true con artist! He came to my friend's home to repair 3 clocks with an estimate first. He took some mechanisms out of each clock and had us sit down to listen. He never stopped talking about ridiculous comparisons to a car engine. My friend had asked him about the charge to come out ahead of time and got a lot of double talk. When Victor came out he charged $325 for a house call! He said he had to close his store to come. If we brought the clocks in to be repaired (one is a grandfather clock), the estimate was in the thousands! I don't doubt that he know his stuff but unfortunately he is a con artist with his charges! He showed us he had charged others $275 for house calls. When I asked why we were $50 more I didn't get a straight answer. At the time he dropped it off he said that the only thing it would need is to be oiled every two years. Victor was hired by my parents to fix a 20 year old grandfather clock. He cleaned and oiled it for $400. He wanted to charge them $2,500 to fully repair the clock which isn't worth $1k. My parents refused and had another repair shop come in and fix it beautifully for $160. This man charged me over $2000 to what he explained as replacing the entire mechanism of my emperors clock and service another grandfather clock which is just simply oiling it and setting the time. I subsequently had a reputable other company out who looked at ' his ' Replacement work' and said that mostly it had the original, same parts. Victor is skilled in clock repair but there are a few things that made his services less than desirable. He only does house calls which means a $65 service charge before any repairs. When he came to my house, he didn't ask me what was wrong with my clock (it was working, I just wanted it oiled) but sat down, examined it, and told me I needed a complete overhaul starting at $250 but possibly more. When I asked him what was wrong with the clock, he spoke to me a great deal about clocks, comparing clock repair to engine repair on a car, etc. but never answered the question what exactly was wrong with my specific clock. When I told him that it was running fine and just needed oil, he offered to do that an additional $45 but I figured I had already invested $65 and didn't want to invest anymore and took my clock to another place for oil. read more
