Cloran mansión My husband and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary and so we decided to stay at the Cloran Mansion for a few days. We booked the massage and dinner package as well as renewed our vows in front of the mansion. I cannot say enough about the amazing experience we had during our time here. Paul was an amazing host! He puts in a lot of details into making the experience one to remember. We have never stayed at a bed-and-breakfast so we were completely surprised by how wonderful and elegant the mansion was. On Thursday when we arrived, we had our scheduled massage, followed by our ceremony, and a private dinner in the dining room. Paul even took some pictures of us and gifted us with a beautiful framed picture of me and my husband. On Friday morning, we met some wonderful guest during our breakfast, and headed out to downtown Galena. Our breakfast was an excellent and tasty homemade breakfast, so much so, that we were so excited about breakfast the next day. Although Paul is basically the face of a mansion, his wife and employee work just as hard to make it an overall beautiful experience. We will definitely be back! We know that we have other options, but we cannot say enough about this place and want to continue to support Paul like he supports and tends to his customers. First of all, I have a hard time believing when one business receives multiple 5 stars online from so many customers. In regards to Cloran Mansion, I am a believer! This was our first stay here at Cloran Mansion and in Galena, IL; and let me just say Cheryl & Carmine really make you feel at home and are absolutely wonderful hosts. We were lucky enough to stay in the cottage next to the Mansion, they allowed us to bring our dog with us for a small fee, and they accommodated us to check in beyond 10pm when we arrived. The cottage itself has heated floors throughout, fireplace, in-room spa tub, and an adorable little eating area. If that wasn't enough, Cheryl & Carmine also went out of their way to provide free cola (regular & diet), water, popcorn, coffee, tea, iron & ironing board, satellite TV with HBO, DVD player, and bath salt for the in-room spa! Cheryl & Carmine also provided free shower gel for bathing (regular size mind you!), shampoo, and conditioner! Seriously, they literally thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable, including the peanut butter cookies with Hershey's Kiss waiting on the table for us after a long day walking around the town. To save the best for last, let's just say the breakfast is MEMORABLE!!!!! Our first day there we ate the following: Cinnamon pancakes with white creamy topping, eggs to order, fresh hash browns, English muffins-buttered!, sausages, orange juice, coffee, and fresh fruit in a wonderful yogurt sauce. Mind you, this was all you can eat!! On our second day there, our breakfast consisted of: French Toast, sausage patties, fresh fruit, fried potatoes sliced, eggs to order, orange juice, coffee, cranberry juice, and buttered toast. This was all you can eat as well!!! In addition to the above, Cheryl & Carmine offer free Wifi in the Mansion and free Hotspot in the adjacent cottage. If you are looking for a place that allows pets (cottage only) and is worth the money for ambiance and romance, then Cloran Mansion is it!!!! Please take my advice, STAY HERE!!! We were holding on to a gift certificate for a couple of years and then finally decided to use it and it was well worth while and we will stay there again on our next visit to Galena. We stayed in Antonio's Cottage and it was great to be secluded outside of the house and have our own private experience. Cheryl and Carmine were both great and actually interacted with the guests over breakfast which I loved as everyone gets to know everyone. The food was outstanding and among some of the best we have had at a B&B and we have stayed at a lot of them. No wonder it was voted as the 4th most romantic B&B in the US by TripAdvisor. This wasn't quite as "out in the middle of nowhere" we thought it was, but as B&Bs go, it was lovely. Carmine and Cheryl are so sweet and understanding, it's easy to feel at home. The breakfasts are huge, the towels are soft and fluffy, the whirlpools are fun, we got a king-sized bed (!), and the overall atmosphere is simple and relaxed. We enjoyed our stay. The only downside we found was staying in the Tower Room, after reading the description, we thought there would be windows to look at the view. It's sunny, but the windows are too high to look out of. (This was definitely our assumption, though. In reviewing the description, it doesn't say "view" anywhere.) We really liked our couples' massage, as well. Cheryl & Carmine obviously don't do that, but they've contracted with two wonderful masseuses. Great job! read more

This was my first stay at a B&B with my girlfriend. We stayed in Antonio's cottage and brought her dog with. Cheryl and Carmine were very attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed. Cheryl gave us a few ideas of things to do and must-see sites while in town, and their extensive DVD collection gave us something to watch when we were done for the night. The TV in the cottage swivels so you can watch it from the bed, jacuzzi, or the couch. If for some reason you can't find a DVD to watch, there's satellite TV, too!! And the breakfast was to die for. Let's just say you won't go hungry. If you stay for multiple days like we did, they make sure to cook something different every day, and each breakfast seemed to get more and more delicious. The rooms were turned down everyday at some point after breakfast with new towels, fridge restocked with complimentary water and soda. They have a lot of extra packages that we didn't take advantage of, like massages, dinner for 2, etc. Maybe next time! The grounds were beautiful and relaxing, there's a gazebo, pond with fish, lots of flowers, fire pit, etc. The only slight bummer was the wifi didn't reach out into the cottage, the signal kept cutting out, but it's not like we went on vacation to use the internet, anyways!! We found the "Just a Few of Our Closest" Wedding Package and had our wedding there in late April. All I/we can write is that it was perfect. We stayed in the cottage with our dog and loved it! Our family stayed in the mansion and all the rooms are lovely! Our daily breakfast was amazing and the innkeepers (Paul and Janet) were outstanding! Our wedding was stress free and beautiful. We highly recommend getting married here if you want a small intimate wedding. We have so many wonderful memories - and the late April snow made it all just that much more special. The Claron Mension!!! Nestled just a mile from downtown Galena, Cloran Mansion Bed & Breakfast is brimming with charm & coziness, in a lush serene setting. As we headed towards the destination our hearts sped up not knowing what to expect. Filled with anticipation and excitement from the picturesque scenic views of our drive we turned on to Franklin Street. As we pulled up the Long drive we saw a beautiful wooded gazebo(screened in!), fire pit, and koi pond. This led to a beautiful red brick mansion. We weren't sure what to expect as neither myself nor my girlfriend had been to a bed & breakfast before. We were warmly greeted by Carmine, who gave a descriptive tour of the house and showed us to our amazing room! The room was instantly inviting- complete with a plush bed, cushy linens & seating. We loved the "rustic" touch of the peaked knotted pine ceiling, which made our room feel airy & spacious- along with the two tall windows on either side of the bed that lent a cheery ambiance. This place was perfect for a quiet, relaxing lovers mini vacation. The shelf above the bed contained an old style clock. A fridge stocked with refreshments for a hot day. The cute rocking chair near the bathroom entrance was quaint & comfortable and I definitely enjoyed it. The small tv in the corner had direct tv and a DVD player.("the Library" next door was full of 100s of DVD's & games to borrow!) The adjoined bathroom had a wall of bright windows (..with blinds!), a roomy jetted tub along with thick spa bathrobes & towels. Our breakfasts were a touch of heaven with great conversation and great stories about the history of the mansion and The town. We also paid a bit extra for a private, romantic evening in the dining room at sunset! The food, the ambiance, the lighting, the crooning music, mmmmm simply perfect! I can't believe I haven't left a review for this place on here! I bought a weekend stay at Cloran Mansion for my boyfriend's birthday last November and it was truly the best surprise! Neither of us have ever stayed at a bed & breakfast and I wanted to find a nice quiet place for us to get away from the daily stresses of work, school and family. I will admit that I was very nervous about it because I didn't know what to expect at all, but I read a lot of really good reviews so I figured why not. We stayed in the Tower Room, and I ordered the Strawberries & Champagne to have when we arrived. All the rooms have fireplaces, and as I can only speak for the Tower room, I can imagine that all the other rooms must be just as cozy and comfortable. Cheryl a& Carmine are such amazing hosts and were very helpful throughout our stay, I did tell them that we were both nervous (me especially because it was my boyfriends birthday weekend, so I really wanted it to be as nice as possible) and they reassured me that it would be just fine and it was absolutely fantastic! The only downside is that the mansion did have every room occupied that weekend, and my boyfriend and I are not social butterflies, we're both very introverted people who have to put on an extroverted facade throughout the day and by the time we get home it's definitely time to unwind and relax. That being said, we didn't get the opportunity to try their breakfast because the first day we came down a little later and all the other guests stuck around the dining room to chat after they were done eating. The second day my boyfriend went to see if the dining room was full, and it was but a couple got up after they were done eating so that we could have a seat, however the dining room was still packed with people even standing around the table & there was a gentleman standing behind the two empty chairs talking and laughing with the group and I just felt uncomfortable with sitting right in front of him. In all honesty, my boyfriend and I just wanted to enjoy breakfast together and talk about the weekend, etc. I did ask Carmine if ordering breakfast to take to our room in the future was possible and he said absolutely. We definitely plan on returning (those blueberry pancakes sounded amazing!), I truly recommend this bed & breakfast for anyone who has never gone to one before. read more

We just enjoyed a second visit to the Cloran Mansion - as last year, the BEST experience for a B&B you could possibly have! We wanted a "one tank" trip from Chicago last year and Lake Geneva was only dog friendly if your dog is 10 pounds. LOL! We have a very well behaved 70 pound Golden Retriever (therapy dog) and Cheryl & Carmine allow pets in Antonio's Cottage, which we adore. Why haven't I left a review before now?? My Husband and I had a getaway weekend a few years ago in the fall. We stayed in the tower room. Cheryl & Carmine are gracious hosts, available if needed, otherwise behind the scenes. The rooms are beautiful, they take you back in time. There are too many knick knacks for my taste - not a lot of room to place my belongings. The free soda pop, shampoo and soap in shower, and tasty goodies on the table were all appreciated. The BEST part was - BREAKFAST! We have stayed at other places with good food. This breakfast was better every day than any other place we have been. We've been staying at Hawk Valley lately because individual cottages provide privacy & more romance. This is a great place to stay! read more

The Cloran Mansion is quite possibly the best Bed and Breakfast I have stayed. From the time you are greeted at the door by Carmine and Cheryl to the time you leave, you feel like a part of their family. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, which was in the Tower room. The breakfast was top-notch and the rooms were cozy. I probably had the best sleep in a while there. One of the many reasons to stay there is that Carmine has standing reservations at various restaurants so you don't have to try to find a place on Saturday night. If your looking for something super modern, this is not your place. It was a cozy stay with a old home feeling. The linens and towels were the softest we ever used! It was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good but there were these homemade raspberry puff (can't remember the technical term) that made it unique. We have never laughed so much with people we did not know. I have stayed here multiple times with family and romantic getaway and I have never been disappointed. Carmine and Charmine are the sweetest people (who make AMAZING food!!), they respect your privacy and go above and beyond for any needs/requests you may have. I have seen a few reviews complaining about the location of the Cloran Mansion, and it is NOT downtown Galena but we actually prefer it that way. It's like a 5 minute drive but it's out of the way enough so that you don't have a lot of traffic outside. The rooms all have a Victorian vibe but they're very cozy. I've stayed in Antonio's Cottage, Sara's Suite, and Anne's Room (the smallest one) and they've all been great. We plan on still making time for a trip sometime before the year is out! If you're looking for somewhere cozy and romantic with a breakfast that will knock your socks off then I would highly recommend Cloran Mansion! read more
