That other company cost more, the design was not as space-maximizing as Mike's, (they insisted on putting trim over empty spaces where Mike would have allowed me to store things) and the installation quality wasn't even as good!. Mike's designs are intelligent and efficient, and he maximizes every inch of storage space from floor to ceiling. Their show room is located in Rockville MD and I recommend you go there first and then have them measure your space to give you a quote. In my townhome they don't bless the walk in closets as much so I see why people get this done after their home is built immediately. The communication from the staff is top tier and the contractors who came in to do the work were so nice and friendly and this job took close to 4hours. I was estimated 5-6hrs to complete the project so they were quicker which was awesome, I am more than happy about the results and can't wait for the next project! My first interactions with closet stretchers seemed pretty good. I was quickly able to get an appointment, and two very enthusiastic designers showed up trying to get me "the most unique closet possible." Unfortunately, I later realized their design physically could not work in my space (it would be blocking all my light switches). So, I asked for a new design. It's been more than a month, and I've sent follow up e-mails weekly. Still no new design. We can't stop smiling every time we go into our new main bedroom closet now that Closet Stretchers has designed and installed a new one. They increased hanging space by 50% and added shelves and drawers that never existed before. Everything is now organized, easy to find and a pleasure to use. The design process was amazing. After presenting their design, we were offered options. No upselling or pressure, just here are your choices and here are the costs. The price was also very reasonable. Installation was quick and clean and we were left with an amazing new space that is far more usable and looks amazing. The installers were very competent and efficient and left our home clean. I wish I'd just taken the other reviews at face value and avoided this company. Every part of working with them was frustrating at best and infuriating at worst. Some complaints along the way: -Nearly impossible to get answers from our design point of contact, Shelsy (sometimes up to a week for minor questions) -Was not told about custom aspects of our project which doubled the length of our project -Was told the crew could install our custom trim if we provided. Sure they installed it, but it was terribly done -Was told we could provide our own hardware, so we spent hundreds on hardware. Installation day, our cabinets all came pre-drilled with holes that only fit their hardware. -Was charged for the project before it was completed to our satisfaction I reached out to the company with all of these complaints hoping to get some feedback or at least acknowledgment and instead I got radio silence. If i good offer zero stars, i would. This has been a frustrating experience for several reasons. I initially had my installation date for 26 Aug 22. The contractors installed the foundation of the closet however waited to the end to inform me that the drawers of the installation were not in stock. And would be a week until the installation would be completed. The failure to communicate the parts required for my install were not in stock left me with partial closet. I had to continually reach out via phone and email to the company to get an update on the status of the remaining drawers. The rescheduling experience was even more trying. On the first reschedule attempt, the staff rescheduled due to heath concerns. Understandable. Upon confirming my appointment time and date 24 hours prior, one the second attempt, the company had a cancellation in the schedule and arrived at my home 4 hours early asking to perform the install and cancelled my confirmed appointment time, the day of. Two months later, 27 Oct, the third attempt, the contractors arrive an hour outside of my appointment time, which is also outside of the allotted time for contractors to work within my HOA terms. Lastly, after signing the contract that stated my remaining balance. I was erroneously charged and have to fix this as well. How this company has remained in business with poor customer service, no sense of time, communication, and work ethic is beyond me. I wanted to use a local company and a friend recommended Closet Stretchers, so in spite of some bad reviews, I contacted them. Because of COVID, we had a phone consultation. I gave the designer, Nicole, my closet measurements and she got back to me the next day with a design. I asked for an adjustment and she made it. I loved the design so I booked the job. Not only was the price half of Home Depot and 2/3 less than The Container Store (both of which the price didn't include installation), they were able to schedule me for one week from booking. The workmen arrived on time, took down the old shelves and patched the walls. They installed the closet organizer quickly and cleanly. They had forgotten to patch one hole so they took care of it and they were done. I LOVE my closet! It's exactly what I wanted, good quality, and will increase the value of my home. We installed closet stretchers and after years of use, our drawers were not closing properly and are misaligned from the tracks. We thought that they would honor their "lifetime warranty", part of the reason why we chose to go with them rather than a competitor. After weeks of sending pictures and videos and multiple conversations with office staff, we were told that the warranty does not cover normal wear or defects that develop over time. We would have to agree to a $695 just to have their crew come by to inspect. After inspection, any repairs would be additional. These statements on their website are basically UNTRUE: "Our materials are of the highest quality, and will last forever. Closet Stretchers installations come with a lifetime warranty." Their materials/solutions do not last forever or a reasonable time without problems. They do not honor the warranty as promised. Save yourself the hassle, additional expense and aggravation of a company that does not honor commitments made during sale transactions. Owner Ted Shaw was unreachable. read more

Our experience with this company cost us more time and money than we could have imagined. We hired closet stretchers to finish one of our two walk-in closets. After agreeing to a rendering, the construction team apparently started on the wrong closet. The correct closet was boxed up, but the wrong closet was full of hanging clothes, including dresses and suits, furniture, and miscellaneous items. The construction team proceeded to take every item from the closet and sprawl it across the bedroom, which included throwing dry-cleaned clothing into a pile and, for example, putting shoes on top of a white suit coat. After emptying the closet, the crew apparently realized they were working on the wrong closet, as they dimensions were completely different than the rendering. Rather than putting the closet back together, they left everything sprawled across the room, and we spent the evening putting the room back together. We contacted Closet Stretchers for an explanation, hoping that they expected more from their crew. They said that they would find out what happened and follow up with us immediately. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we waited four weeks to share this review with the hope that they would offer at least an apology (which never came). There are too many closet companies in the DC area to treat customers with such low regard, particularly when offering a mediocre product. I hope no one else makes the same mistake we did. read more

Their design folks are great but their contractors are the exact opposite. They lack common sense and the ability to work in a professional manner. We had 3 closets done. The designer was very abrupt and not open to listen to what we wanted. The design was ok but not inspired. She also did not advise that we should remove the existing shelving ourselves. The installers were not attentive to detail and created a mess removing the existing shelving that I had to repair. The final product was acceptable but our experience was not great. For what we paid, we expected more. Note that we have had Closet Stretchers do work at other houses in the past and were very pleased. This latest project was not up to the same standard we experienced in the past. read more

I needed a lot of work done in my home. Several friends told me to just call Closet Stretchers instead of wasting my time...but I had 4 companies come out and assess my needs and provide me with quotes. The other companies were either relentlessly hounding me or blew me off completely...the only rep I was happy with was the one from Closet Stretchers. He very nicely offered to beat any price and match any design, and never hounded me, but always returned phone calls and emails. I had both of my kids closets and my master closet done and was so blown away by the process and quality that I decided to have Closet Stretchers design my built in home office system. After they were done, I decided I needed extra shelves, and I picked up 2 shelves and they fit right in to my closet, no problem whatsoever. My kids used to have clothing all over the floor, and now it is out of sight, and I am a happy mom. My life has changed completely due to the organization systems that they installed. I have never felt so organized! Worth EVERY penny! I will eventually have them come back and design every other storage space in my house. i have used closet stretchers many times through out 2 homes Ive had in the Washington area and have always been pleased. i happened to come across this review when a friend i had referred to them showed me this review. because of the great work and prompt service i had several times i felt compelled to write an opposing review. my designer was a young lady that worked with them for at least 7 years at that point when i first used them. her back ground as well as the other designers must be in design and or architecture. i felt very confident that this young lady knew what she was doing at the time as within the first half four she had gotten measurements and was able to point out a few special conditions in my closet that didn't allow it to look just like the picture. i then learned that they never look just like the picture because its all custom work fabricated locally in rockville. that was a big deal for me as well that they were a local company and not a franchise. i did have one situation where one piece was left, a tie hanger my husband needed, not a big deal i could have waited until the installers were in my neighborhood the next day. but another designer who was in the area offered to come by and drop it off so it would be installed with everything the same day. and that only happened once the four times I've had them at my homes. i have all of my closets done currently. i would highly recommend this company as they are local, prompt, professional and they've been around for forever. my home is the custom dream Ive always wanted and i was able to get a ridiculously good price. read more
