Lisa met with me twice to go over fabric choices for reupholstering my pre-2000 Broyhill sofa. She dropped by numerous swatches and spent significant time explaining the various DR's of fabric and which choices would work best with my 2 cats, who have clawed the Broyhill's arms over the years. Lisa is very skilled and knowledgable as she offered to make arm covers with the new upholstery. However, through research and trying new sofas that offer higher seating, I decided it would be best to go with an option where I would sit higher, making it easier to stand back up after sitting for a while - that's not as easy as it used to be at my age now. I loved working with Lisa and her team. We have cats who are expert at shredding upholstery. She was great at helping us think about what kinds of fabrics might be more resistant to future shredding (and helped me learn about fabric durability metrics, in the process). She reupholstered 2 pieces for us - a chair and an antique rocking chair. She loaned us several fabric books which was a great way for us to select the fabric we wanted. We narrowed down our selections and ordered a few samples through her. After we picked the fabric, Lisa and her team picked up the pieces and took them to her workshop. They did the same process in reverse once they were finished. The pieces look great and because we were able to spend the extra time with her sample books, we picked fabrics that we really fell in love with. These people really know what they're doing. They're thorough, personal (like, real people -- wow!), interested, nice, innovative, sensitive, responsive, and I think they do a really quick job considering how detailed and well-done the work they're doing is. For me what they've done is extra-special because they used fabric I designed with my art on it, so I can't tell you how much I appreciate them. The first job they did was actually for my mom -- she had some antique chairs re-covered with my fabric, and wow they look and feel soooo great! I mean, not only do they (K&S) make everything look nice but they care about what they're doing and the people involved and they had some really great suggestions about which colour of tacks to use to better go with the design, and how to best make use of the (repeated) image on it. It looks fantabulous! Then they came to my place and made curtains and wow! They're just so smart about what they're doing. She (Lisa) suggested I'd like a more modern look to my curtains with fewer pleats at the top and she was right -- they look great. Of course I'm not even thinking I need to mention that it's all sewn really nicely, the seams are smooth, the stitching is even, the curtain fits the window and room very well -- and all that kind of thing. In the (well, an)other room, there is another curtain -- and I like it because it's different and moves up and down whereas the bigger one is side to side so I have variety and obviously it shows they are versatile, as well. It just feels so clean, the way they did it. I mean my whole space is so much nicer, lighter and brighter now -- well, and darker when I want it to be! These are the best window treatments I have ever seen. So not boring! And, you know, it's not that easy to approach someone about doing something like that because a lot of people would make it uncomfortable because they're not used to people wanting their own things and they just want to do what they want and you have to pretend to like it or something, so this is very different from all that mess. It's a relief. I feel I can be myself with them and now I am myself more in my space both when I am and am not there because my beautiful made-to-order curtains are doing my speaking for me .... Oh, this reminds me, I need to get some pillows made from the extra leftover fabric! Yeah, they do that, too! :-D read more

I had a wonderful experience using K&S to reupholster my grandmother's couch in 2011, and have recommended them to multiple people since then. Lisa is the contact person. She is prompt to return phone calls and look into any questions you have, on the off chance she doesn't have the answer on hand. Her father and uncle do all the work, including picking up and dropping off the furniture at your house, which they did for us. Lisa was patient and diligent in her search for the type and color of fabric I wanted. If she found something close, but not quite perfect, she kept looking...and eventually did find an exact match for our taste. She is great with ordering samples so you can see what you're getting before you commit to it. Once we selected our fabric, the work was completed within two weeks. K&S Upholstery reupholstered a sofa and two wingback chairs for us in May 2016. Lisa was delightful to work with and very professional. She has more energy than two people! She loaned us six fabric books to look through at home. I selected three different fabrics for the three pieces of furniture. Lisa recommended ordering a sample yard of the fabrics I had selected, and I was glad I followed her advice because I hated two of the fabrics I'd selected. She then helped me decide on two new fabrics. She asked me if I liked stripes and I said 'no'. However, when she showed me the fabric she had in mind, I loved it with the other two fabrics and the rug we were coordinating with. I only ordered a sample yard of the one of the new choices because I felt pretty sure I liked the third one (a plain wheat colored fabric). However, Lisa really wanted me to be sure I liked the third choice so she drove to my house with a sample of that fabric so I could throw it over my sofa to see what it looked like. I felt that this was above and beyond good customer service and I appreciated her doing that. We communicated by texting, including sending photos of our initial choice of fabrics. She was prompt in responding to all of my inquiries. We arranged for the furniture to be picked up the weekend before we left on a two week vacation and it was finished and delivered the day after we returned from our vacation. We absolutely love our 'new' furniture. Our friends and family all thought we got new furniture, and everyone has agreed that it is beautiful work. K&S made 2 custom pillows for my large wicker chair and did a fabulous job. I had no pillows at all to work from and they perfectly sized the pillows. Lisa was so attentive to what I wanted. When I was late getting to the shop she waited for me even though it was after closing time. When I asked if she could position the material so that my favorite flower would appear in the middle of the pillow back she said 'Absolutely' and did exactly that. When I wanted an adjustment made to one of the pillows after it was finished she said she wanted to make sure the pillow was perfect and was careful to understand exactly how I wanted to shorten one of the sides. She even delivered the pillows and chair to my home in Washington DC free of charge since she was making another delivery to the city. I love a business that wants me to say exactly what I want and then delivers it without any fuss and with a smile. Lisa has a wonderful, customer focus and I loved that she did all of this with her young baby balanced on her hip. I will go to Lisa again in the future and suggest that you also try K&S when you have a special job that you want done perfectly and when you want to work with someone who cares about your project as much as you do. read more
