This is my second time using CBD. The first time was 6/21 when a crew of two installed a pantry that was 5' X 12' X 16 " and did a great job. It cost me just shy of $1,000 bucks four years ago. The results were surprisingly good & much better than the sagging wire shelves that were straining under the weight of cans and bottles. This time I was in the market for a MBR Closet makeover. There are many competitors in closet space so I called several for estimates. The West coast company and CbD were the two front runners. The design, rendering, 3D visuals, materials and costs were very close. It simply came down to Kristina making a better presentation and presenting a professional and credible presence. I've learned to rely on my intuition/discernment in these matters. We had a preliminary phone conversation then she scheduled an on-site consult. It went very well and after reviewing competing estimates, I chose to go with CbD. It was a 40 day wait for a confirmed install date. You pay half up front and the remainder upon install. I know it was a long wait, but they are very busy. So many new residents moving into the CLT Metro. This gave me time to remove the wire shelves, spackle the dry wall and have a contractor paint a space of 17' X 18' X 9' They will tell you the arrival in a 2 hour spread and in my case it was 12N-2p. I was told the total ESTIMATED install time would be about 3 hours. I didn't ask how many people would be on the install team. The previous smaller job was a two person crew so I 'assumed' the same. I got a call on the Friday before the Monday install and it was a bit rough. The gal sounded like she was reading from a script, then I thought it was an automated call. I tried to interrupt her a couple of times to tell her to hold on so I could get to a quiet place to hear her. She was on a mission to to complete her script and so I waited for her to finish before we could have an actual conversation, a bit clunky. About 1015a on the install date, I got a call from someone who said that Dylan who was on a nearby job and finished up sooner and wanted to know if he could start early. My answer: 'YES' and five minutes later he showed up ready to get started. A very nice and professional young man, he told me he had been installing for CbD for about 2 years and that he was estimating about 3.5 hours to complete the job. I asked if he was a 'one man crew' he said 'yes' they were very busy and that he had done quite a lot of similar installs solo before so I felt confidant with his skills. He parked his work van in my driveway and proceeded to roll out carpet and floor covers from the front door, up the stairs to the MBR. He was up and down many, many times. From time to time, I walked to the Storm Door to see what he was sawing. He had set up his saw in my front yard and was cutting several pieces to custom fit. I never interrupted him and he never spoke until about 4.0 hours later when he began carrying his tools and picking up the floor covers. He said he was done and wanted me to take a look. I was impressed, it was exactly like the renderings/design that Kristina created. He asked me where I wanted the 'extendable belt holder' installed and proceeded to drill a hole and install the hardware. Then he installed the lock on the top drawer and showed me how to operate it. At first, it was a little clunky, he worked with it and it finally locked. He let me operate it, and it seemed to work fine. I will say, I was very pleased/surprised that ALL my stuff fit and with room to spare. It felt really good to finally get organized. We used them to do our master closet. Debbie was our sales rep and was fantastic to work with. I give them 4 stars as I am a hobby woodworker and anything not made out of real wood is hard to give 5 stars for. They use a type of particle board. It looks really good but still no substitute for real wood. The installers were professional, courteous and respectful. We have 3 issues and are awaiting the service call next week to resolve. We hired CBD to install Kitchen Pantry, reach in closet -- installed in Feb 2021 and also the Master Bedroom Closet on Aug 2nd. The designer was Deb Hampton in both cases. Deb did a solid job but the installation process was a nightmare especially for the Master Bedroom with so many problems as outlined below. This required frequent ( 5 follow up visits needed) to fix all the problems with the shelves not lining up, holes on the walls in the back, the JT and LT not fitting into the drawers etc and this cause d a lot of headaches and a nuisance to spend time on fixing these issues . 1) The installers on Aug 2nd had multiple holes on the back to tie the closet to the wall. So not using "stud finder" to find the stud and only drill holes accordingly was not followed by the installer. I had notified the installation manager - "Christa" regarding the same. The biggest issue for me is that the installers -- Installer = "Carlos" on Aug 2nd were never honest about all the holes they drilled because of him and his crew's mistake and did not notify me before they left regarding the same. So the onus is on me to take a step stool and find the issue at the back and if I don't they get away with the mistakes... Carlos the installer also had several shelves incorrectly cut or installed, which needed to be fixed. They along with the lack of communication about the missing "Jewelry and Lucite Trays" which are still not arrived due to backlog from the manufacturer in China. I understand the backlog is outside CBD's control but why I was not made aware before the installation instead of me asking the installer Carlos and him telling me to call the office to check the office regarding the status. It seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing... There was issue where the Hamper door was incorrectly cut so they had to sent someone to fix and have it replaced. So although the issues are fixed, there is always something to be said about doing it right the first time which the CBD failed in this instance. I am still waiting on the trays and warranty certificate. The owner of this local franchise has to review and address the above issues as my standards maybe high but it is reasonable to expect the Warranty certificate within 30 days of installation and installation crew being honest about the errors during installation. There were good things, we were satisfied with the design and functionality of everything installed and Deb a did a good job of capturing our ideas. I would have preferred a 3D - CAD design so that there is a better understanding of the design and can be corrected/changed easily instead of pen and pad which seems like an arcane 19th century way of doing things.. So overall we were pleased but there are some gaps as mentioned above that the CBD local franchise needs to clean up so that their service levels are better especially with regards to the installation and communication. After 4 months of wait, the jewelry tray delivered on Dec 29 was too big and does not fit into the drawers. This is a clear case of CBD not knowing the dimensions of the drawer. read more

I can honestly say that Closets by Design KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with my closet. If I could push the golden button and they get to get all of America's business I would push it for them. Julie was amazing and so fun to work with. She walked us through the show room and showed us visually just some of the ways they could design our new master walk in. She starts with what your vision is and asks questions and then she magically deliciously starts showing you things that make you think "omg that's it!! How's she do that?!" I was overwhelmed at first with all the choices and options. I wanted to make sure I got all the things!! All the whistles...omg how much?! Hahahaha!! Not to worry though in price. She works numbers well and was able to help me wrangle in my wants that fit my budget. We ended up with a beautiful closet. When they were finished installing it, the guys brought me back to inspect and when I caught a glimpse of it as I walked towards it, it was already taking my breath away. When I got closer and saw all of it, I almost fainted. It. Is. Glorious. I will use them for EVERYTHING that has to do with closets now in our house. I would send every person to them that I know. It's totally worth the money. I know there is another big name company here in Charlotte that starts with a C and is a west cost state and Arnold Swazeneggar (spelling?!) was the governor and that company is supposed to be the Big kids in the market but they are NOT. Steven showed attention to detail, captured things that didn't look right and had it fixed. Had a great experience with Closets by Design. There was a miscommunication between myself and the designer, which the installer (Kareem) noticed immediately. The original closet depth was 30" instead of the standard 24". Kareem called his boss and had the material recut and installed the same day. Couldn't ask for better service! We did our own demo to the original closets, so there are still areas that need to be touched up in the "after" pictures; however, Closets by Design blew my expectations away. read more

I usually NEVER write reviews, but my experience with Closets by Design in Charlotte has been so subpar that I thought I would warn others. This however, is not a knock on the professionalism of the Sales rep who provided us with the design of our two closet spaces. Essentially, in the summer of 2021, we had two installs - in both cases, the materials were severely flawed (i.e., chipped materials, bubbled edges, uneven pieces of wood, etc.). With our first install, the flaws were noticed by the installers, our Sales rep and one of their leads. Pictures and videos were taken and the company agreed that the materials were not good and asked for the opportunity to make it right. They scheduled a second install day where they ripped everything out and tried again. Unfortunately, the second install also came with flawed materials. After that, we didn't hear from this company for MONTHS. I mean, literally radio silence from late July to late December. We then get a message during the holiday season (late December) stating that they have dates and are ready to fix - suddenly, they have a sense of urgency to complete the install for the 3rd time. As you can imagine, at this point, we have counted this as a loss on their end and ours as we had not heard from them since July 2021. Although we're in a pandemic and we know that business are having tough times, it would've been simple common courtesy and good customer service to tell us that they apologize and will give us a plan to rectify, offering a final install on OUR schedule with a significant discount for our inconvenience. Now, they want to do a 3rd install and at this point, this is the first time they've offered ANY discount for their poor customer service, poor materials and our inconvenience (taking time away from work to remove everything from our pantry and closet is a hassle). In our opinion, after the second install was a failure, that would have been the time to offer a discount and work around our schedules - but instead, we got the silent treatment. We are insulted by their renewed sense of urgency to do yet another install at a time that works for them, and by their inadequate attempt at offering us a credit for our time and inconvenience. read more

The process of choosing my closets design was simple and quick, and I believe I got what I paid for. I didn't need luxury, just good quality and organization for my closets, but you certainly have options to go "all out" if you prefer. I purchased my closet system with this company July 2021. The day the closet was installed, I made them aware that there are damages to one of the shelf. They promised to replace and after several calls and email. they never replaced it. Here we are not even 7 months later, the whole closet system is falling apart. The racks are not sturdy, they are cheap rods and the whole system is falling apart. I'm very disappointed after spending thousands of dollars. Poor quality and Shoddy work.
