We have had a bad experience with Closets by Design. While the quality of the cabinets and installation are fine, the price we paid for what we received was extremely high and twice as much as it should have been. We initially entered into a contract to have closets installed in our two master closets and pantry. That cost was $10 K. The work was scheduled 90 days out and in the meantime we received an offer on our house and sold it. We could not get out of the contract and would lose the $5 K deposit so agreed to have work done on our new residence for the same price. I'm including photos of what we got for $10 K. At most it should have been $5K-$6K. After numerous attempts to speak to the owner, to no avail, I decided to post this review to express our frustration and dissatisfaction. read more

I had three closets installed in my new construction home by Closets by Design. They sent someone to my home to measure and design each closet area. From a customer perspective, it seemed very easy and error free. After 3 months of waiting because they have lengthy install delays, it was finally time to have the closets installed. I was supposed to have two installers and was only given one, which then meant the install would take an additional day. On the final day after all the cabinets were completed, the installer realized the laundry cabinets were so big they could not be fully opened, as they hit the wall frame. The measurements were completely wrong. I was told I would have to wait another week to have smaller doors installed. A week later, I got stood up. Two hours into my install window I was told the installers had COVID, which I later learned was an excuse and a blatant lie. The company double booked, which is something they are known to do per other reviewers. The reinstall was rescheduled and instead of simply installing smaller doors they completely ripped out the cabinets and installed a much smaller cabinet, approximately 7 inches smaller. The cabinets were no longer functional for my needs and a complete waste of money. Not only was the cabinet smaller there was a significant amount of dry wall damage left that Closet by Design refused to acknowledge and repair. I called several times requesting to speak to management and no one ever contacted me. The balance on my account was $200. I asked if this could be waived because they caused $350 worth of wall damage that they refused to pay. Instead of conducting themselves as a professional business, they went radio silent and sent me an email threatening to send my account to collections. The audacity of management to take such an extreme approach instead of making things right. I spent $8k and the least they could do is waive the balance on the account for cabinets they measured incorrectly and installed, leaving significant damage in my new construction home. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. Watch out for the Penny and Christa, they definitely are unhappy with their jobs and you can tell by their unprofessional attitudes. This is my second time around with Closet by Design. That should say something right there! From the design to installation was top notch! The design turned out better than expected. Shavon has mad skills. I was worried about the cabinetry not matching existing cabinets but the finished product look like it was built in with along with original cabinets down to the knobs. I requested the same installer and wouldn't you know he was still there! He had the same level of quality and courtesy as before, don't lose him!. I also love the fact I saw the advertisement in weekly ads those discounts came right on time. Overall very well pleased. read more

We've had multiple closets done but most recently was our linen closet. They took it from 4 wire shelves to almost a 9' ceiling. I've only worked with 1 designer and I believe she is the best. Ask for Cammie! She thinks of everything in a space. From measurements of storage bins, to space for a vacuum, to where hangers won't fit. The crew that installed did a great job. I always get the walls ready by removing the wire shelving and patching/painting the holes. They installed everything perfectly and cleaned up their mess. We've had 4 closets completed now and have 2 left to get converted. You will not regret the money you spend to organize your closets! read more

I'm typically not one to write reviews, but I felt compelled to after the subpar experience I've had with this company over the past few months. I think some of the other reviews say it best - which makes me wish I had thorough vetted the company prior to engaging with them and paying my money. To situation at hand boils down to two major factors: 1) the inability to properly install all the components / elements agreed to in the design specifications; 2) the complete lack of urgency in helping remediate the issue, especially considering that they have already collected all the final payment. While I understand that the pandemic has drastically impacted staffing, etc., the lack of customer service from the main office in staying on top of customer complaints and providing timely feedback - esp. when they communicate that they are going to take a certain action in 48hrs, etc. - is unacceptable. I'm typically a patient person, but at this point I just want and refund and then nothing else to do with this establishment. Buyer beware. read more

From the moment we contacted CbD, the team was extremely responsive. Our consultant, Heather, was amazing. She gave us a lot of great ideas to keep the project within budget while also giving us the great features, functionality and the appeal that my husband and I were looking for in our master closet and pantry. Awesome experience with Closets by Design in Charlotte NC, Diana was our consultant, she was fantastic and they are fully equipped and have great plan in place to a majority of the initial work remotely as to observe social distancing during COVID-19. Kory ( hope i am spelling correctly) was on time, super professional, he even made some on the fly recommendations on a re design so we wouldn't block our closet outlets, true pros across the board. You definitely get what you pay for, worth the premium price for a premium product and install, they even removed all of our old hardware, and fixed all wall holes. We easily tripled our storage space in our master closet and we have a very odd angular walk in, A++++ across the board, highly reccomend! read more

After requesting their advertised free consultation, I was informed there was a $150 to drive to my place. It would have been nice to have seen his on their online ad. I understand driving an hour+ is different from driving 20 minutes to someone's home in Charlotte, but that is part of the sales process. read more

I had Roxanne design my garage. There was a slight mix up part my fault, part miss communication. However between Roxanne and customer service help and everything worked out. Its really functional and looks great. Roxanne choose the gray color and it really is stunning. Slat wall, cabinets and shelves are all high quality. The free consultation was great & the designer was spot on with what I wanted. The Closet looks amazing & was done very fast. The only one bad thing I would say was them not sticking to the time that was stated. The installer was late but finished very quickly. I also didn't read the fine print about it being my responsibility to sand & paint over the holes that were left. It was not a major problem but I think that's something that should definitely be reiterated to buyers. I would definitely recommend them to others. read more

Our sales representative, Roxanne, was very hard to work with, not detail oriented and unresponsive. We found several mistakes on the drawings pre-installation that needed to be addressed. Most interactions were a prompt from us to request a followup.. Upon contract signing, she quoted us a price, collected half upfront, then at installation, changed the amount due. Without permission, they charged our credit card an additional, unauthorized amount after confirmation of the total. We waited for days for a manager to call us, which never happened. If you have another option, use someone else. While the quality of the cabinets and install was good, this company is misleading and unethical. read more

Our designer was professional and knowledgeable so even though it seemed a long time to wait, we figured she knew what she was doing. We checked out three different closet installers and nobody came close to the accuracy or quality of the design and structures than Kristen at CBD. I literally had to show her design to one of the other companies, which basically solidified the fact that we would be going with CBD. They did not disappoint as their rates were well-priced, and Kirsten was their to walk us through every step of the process. Our installation was scheduled, one time, and done in less than a day. Gave us exactly the kind of closet we needed in the master bedroom. When they came to install, we came across a pre-existing water condition and they were very understanding and accommodating. I love my new closet! I had a small walk-in (I called it a stand-in) that was always cluttered with shoes all over the floor. Lisa came to help me and I fell in love with her. She is so warm and helpful and we never felt pressured about adding on more features. She was looking for ways we could save a little money. It actually cost less than I had expected and now, I stay organized and can find anything I need. We had one snafu and when I called her, they reiterated that they stand behind their work forever. She had someone here in a day or two to fix the issue and they gave me an extra shelf at a very discounted price to say "sorry for the inconvenience". I highly recommend them. read more

Excellent! We loved into a house that had 2 closets and one wire mesh in each closet. Completely non functional for the children's rooms. I didn't bother shopping and getting different quotes as I had already installed California closets in my original home so I had an idea of what my costs would be. Julie not only worked within my budget, but I gave her full autonomy to design functional closets for the kids. The installer arrived on time, protected the carpet floors in the bedrooms and transformed empty wholes into fully functional closets. I love my closet! Great design, easy and on time install. Installers were great! During install we had a plumbing mishap that was not due to the install. We had to remove a few pieces of our newly installed closet to fix the issue. At first I thought it was caused by the install and had put a call in to Closets by Design. When they called me back the next morning I told them about the issue and we had discovered it was actually an error of the original home builders. Closets by Design said let them know when I have the drywall patched and they would come back and reinstall the pieces we took off. They held true to their word and sent their installer back to put the closet back together! That is great customer service! We highly recommend them to anyone!
