They didn't show me what they took and offered me a measly dollar amount for high quality, name brand items. The mark up on the sell price vs what they turn around and sell it for is stupid!! I have been selling my treasures at CM for years. The last 2 times they took nothing. Yesterday I took in shoes & was told they were too loved...the soles & heels were like new. Yeah they only took two things from the 3 large sterilite containers full of mostly unworn business casual attire, (they dont take xxs apparently) which is fine. It was my first time selling anything to a CM and Im honestly just very disappointed. It seemed like the employees could give less than a sh*t about you if they aren't profiting off of you. I struggled to bring the bins in with no assistance despite making full pleading eye contact with the worker in the front. Got $6 from the two leggings they accepted, fine. My gripe was more with when i asked for assistance bringing the containers in the car, they all seemed wayyy less than willing. one of them said no but offered a mini cart to put the first one on; didnt even help me with the door. came back in for the last two and I asked again; another no, it was too heavy. so lastly asked I if they could at least help me put it the bins on the cart (pretty heavy for me as I am pretty weak) and ill take it out myself. Thankfully I guess that seemed like a reasonable enough request, this lady at least helped me with the door. Didnt help me though when the bins fell and spilled out in the parking lot which happened right when she closed the door. I was left very frustrated, picking up these nice clothes (express, white house black market, New York & co., etc.) off of the parking lot floor. dropped it off to the closest goodwill instead. wish i started off with that first :/ read more

I can say this store including Plato's closet are bias based on my observation. I know this to be true because I have a young relative that use to work for them and they are bias based on who they buy from. Some will buy their friends merchandise.... you can take a bag full of name brand - some with tags and they will give you basically pennies and or not take at all. If you take on a Friday or weekend they will pass on your clothes almost every time etc. Also depending on your location where you go determines as well. I find them and Plato's closest to be interesting and a waste of time. oh and not to mention the babies store Once Upon A Time. Your better selling your own things. I understand the money and marketing strategy but hummmm is all I can say. read more

Came in to consign clothing and jewelry. Staff was very friendly and helpful and reviewed my items within 30 minutes. Although they could not take more than about 1/4 of what I brought in I did walk away with about $35. They graciously explained it wasn't my taste in clothing or anything other than the fact they can only take name brands listed by their company. There was some very nice quality pieces they could not take because it was not on their name brand list so don't be surprised. What I was very surprised at was the amount of jewelry they turned down that was good quality. They pointed out that jewelry was not selling well at the moment and indeed when I looked through their overstuffed racks I saw that was the case. Did a little shopping for myself and found a very nice wool belted poncho that was very inexpensive for the brand name. I did find their rack system rather confusing to find the sizes that I wanted. There is a clearance area in the back for clothing and shoes. The store is very tightly packed with stock but there was a nice selection of quality brand names at inexpensive prices. I plan to return to consign and also shop here. read more

This location is very picky (didn't buy anything whereas the Crest Hill location subsequently took almost all of it). Yet they cannot be too picky because some of the items on the racks weren't in good condition (pilled fabric etc)?? They are so rude... I'm 24 and every time I come in to sell they make sure to remind me "no junior items" just because I'm young god forbid I dress mature. The first thing they ask is if I have sold with them before and I say yes, so why follow up by hinting my clothes might not be good enough because I look young... I sell designer for god sakes. There are lots, and lots, and lots of clothes here. This building is actually a bigger space than before, but it's still overstuffed. And at times, overpriced. I did manage to find one item here, a blouse from H&M for only $6. I tried on a few others from Banana Republic, the Limited and Michael Kors. I didn't purchase the other items because of fit or they weren't worth their $15-30 price tags. Prices definitely vary. The Michael Kors would've been worth the $30, but I think their mid-range labels are overpriced. The store tries to be organized. And I like that it is done by both size and then color. But the signs on the racks denoting size are sometimes hard to see and difficult to find. There is also a clearance section where I saw tops for as little as $3. What's nice about Clothes Mentor is that it isn't as picked over as Goodwill, because they control the inventory. There are 4 fitting rooms, and it was busy this Sunday afternoon so I had to wait. You will have to be patient because most ladies try on armfuls of items. They also have sales. Today was 25 percent off long sleeve blouses. So my purchase was more like $4 making my digging totally worth it. I would definitely go back to buy, but I will save my next trip for a week night. They do buy clothes. Their stipulations aren't clear on what they buy. I saw a few Wal-Mart brand items on the rack but I know people have been turned away trying to sell better things. I sold a Bebe trenchcoat and Tahari heels here, among other items, and walked out with maybe $30. Overall, it's a bit crammed in here but it's a nice addition to the resale shops in the area. read more

This place is a little harder to find now that it's moved, but I enjoy a visit here every once in a while. I sell items online, and if I can't find someone to buy it, I'll use this place as one of my last resorts. They process items quickly if not busy-- usually in a 40 minutes or less. As far as payouts go, they will give you 1/3 of what they can sell it for in store, so I never leave with more than $30 in pocket, but hey, its something!! They need to make money, so I get it. I have yet to figure out the flow of this store though, I'll be looking at dresses and fall into a clearance section or maternity, and haven't really figured out how the top sizes are organized. Maybe I'm just too distracted when I go here? I have found some good pieces- I got a whole suit for interviews for $20 and a shirt to go with it for $6, but you have to look a lot because they know what they have, and will price it accordingly. I think its fun to look at a huge selection of Coach, Michael Kors and Vera Bradley that are in great condition, but I've never bought anything of that caliber. It's just too much for me. I'm an experienced thrifter so I know where to go for the super cheap, but if I needed something quick (like that suit or a fancy dress for a wedding) I would definitely shop here for this. The store is large and well stocked, with dressing rooms and helpful store employees. I will be back, just to see what there is to see! read more

Sadly the Batavia store closed recently so now I am going back to the Aurora store. Love the clothes but the staff bring this store down! No customer service skills whatsoever. I've not been back since my initial visit at this location because of the attitude of the staff. And the odd thing is that it was not just one staff, but several! I asked one a question about an item and she seemed bothered that I was talking to her. Then at check out there were two ladies at the register talking about personal business while ringing out customers. When it came time for me to check out even these ladies seemed bothered. It was so odd! I couldn't imagine what was so wrong with all of the staff... They truly need training in proper customer service skills. read more

I have to say I am severely disappointed. I thought this review was going to be relatively positive since I had found some relatively cute plus sized clothes there. However I am appalled by the attitude and behavior of some of the employees at this location. I was shopping there for the first time with my mom and about midway through our visit she needed to use the restroom. She then asked an employee to use the restroom, they did not have one so the employee tells her to go to Aldi. (Now bear in mind we are not from around this area and came to Aurora just for this store). My mom goes and looks and cannot find the Aldi so she comes back for more directions my mom goes out and looks again and cannot find the Aldi (which the employee told here was behind the store). Now I understand it is not the employees fault my mom could not find the Aldi, nor was it their responsibility to provide a restroom however what this employee did next was unacceptable. My mom comes back to tell me she's going to drive to the jc penny when one employee laughs at my mom and nudges her coworker saying "look she's back" not even trying to contain her laughter. My mom was visibly upset and left the store almost in tears. When she came back to make our final purchase there was no apology and the employee in question was nowhere to be seen. Shame on you clothes mentor, shame on you for bringing my mom to tears. I am disappointed and because of the immaturity of your employees I wont be coming back. read more

I've never seen employees work so slowly in my life. I waited around for about 45 minutes before taking my stuff back and leaving. In that 45 minutes, the only thing 2 employees managed to do was check out a single customer. The rest of the time was spent looking at their phones, talking to each other, standing around idly, and checking gmail on the computer while rudely telling everyone they were "very busy" that day. read more

This place is a complete joke, my wife and I went in so she could sell some brand new high end jeans that were given to her that she didn't like. First we were told they didn't accept that particular brand and when my wife brought it to their attention that the brand was listed on their own website, she made up an excuse not to buy from her. She was told it was because of the condition....THEY WERE BRAND NEW!! This place is a complete joke and hypocritical. I brought in several bags of clothes and shoes to sell to them. First off they said it would be 45 minutes to get an answer from them. They said they would text me when they were done. I returned to the store after an hour and not receiving a text from them. They returned all my clothes to me saying they were too old. My clothes were a year old and brand names thats why I brought them there. The clothes they sell at their store are older than 2 years and a lot are not in good condition. I have seen stains, hems coming out, worn out heels that need repairing. I looked at a Kate Spade purse where the handle was ripped open and unrepairable and stains all over the purse . Why did they take that??? Hmmm. I will not be returning to that store or going to any of the other related stores they own like Plato's closet, Once Upon A Child and New Uses. I will be sharing my experience. Lastly, the women who work there are very unfriendly to new customers. Returning customers who buy from them are treated extremely well. I came here to sell and potentially buy new clothes. I sifted through their overpacked racks of clothes while the retail "buyer" went through one bag of never worn, in season clothes with tags. At the time, I was thinking it had to be a good thing she was taking so long because she was trying to figure out price point. After 40-45 minutes, I approached the register only to receive a blank stare in lack of recognition from the buyer. I was the only person selling clothes and just two other women were in the store, both appearing to be in their late 40's. I asked her if she was done with my clothes and after a pause the lightbulb blinked back on. She walked away and returned to the counter to inform me she could not take anything, "Because of the condition." Confused, I asked her to clarify, since the clothes had clearly never been worn and had their tags. She laughed and shrugged, "Yeah, I know." I previously worked at a used bookstore so I am well-versed in the used merchandise buying process. Though I may not agree, I would accept just about any other reason. I cannot understand how clothes with tags are "not in buying condition," nor an employee shrugging and laughing rather than explaining her purchasing decisions. read more

After 20 minutes, I sat down hoping the girl would review my items. instead she was chatting with a friend at the counter. After another 15 minutes, I asked if she had looked at my clothes. This place is quite picky about the clothes it takes from customers. I've sold to Clothes Mentor and Plato's Closet in the past and they would take at least one or two items, but now they rarely take anything, even if it's in good condition. The associates were friendly and accommodating, so stars for that. They also have a nice selection of name-brand clothes. However, I think the prices are too high for many items. This is also keeping in mind that the clothing is going to be a mix of older fashion styles from the past few years. On the other hand, the higher prices probably benefit the people who sell their clothes, so I imagine this is the perk to the higher prices on certain items. If a plain-looking top sells for $18, I hope the person selling it gets at least $9 off it. I wanted to walk out with something, but couldn't find anything I liked enough (or if I liked it, it wasn't my size). I have far better luck finding my size and quality brands at Goodwill; this is fine, since the prices are better and half the time I find the same nice clothes I'd find at Clothes Mentor. read more

Every time I shop here I wonder why I don't do it more often. It's a great place to add to your wardrobe without spending a lot of money (today I bought 3 like new sweaters & a pair of designer jeans for less than $60). It does take a while to search through everything to find what you're looking for, but the store seems well-organized for how much merchandise they carry. In the past I tried to consign a few items but they never took anything. I get the feeling that most of the clothes actually don't come from customers but direct from manufacturers, which doesn't bother me since the prices are so great. But I probably wouldn't recommend trying to sell clothes here unless they're brand new or of a select few designers. read more

Praise! I have found a place to sell my clothes. After being turned away from Plato's Closet and Runway Fashion Exchange, I hit up Clothes Mentor. I made $60 bucks on my gently loved items. They typically like stuff from Ann Taylor, LOFT, Gap, Banana, Anthropologie, Macy's, Coach. The one tricky thing for me personally is they like stuff that's less than 2 years old and I usually keep things for at least 2 years. The store itself is organized pretty well by size, color and clothing item type (tops, dresses, etc.) though it is crowded! I browsed through but didn't buy anything. I am not really a resale shopper, only a seller, but there is a lot of stuff here that matched my style. I did see a few items with tags on that I considered but couldn't justify the price tag. Prices I saw...dress with a tag = $35 and "used" dresses $15-20. The only thing I didn't love was the sales associate. She was a little bit cold. She also seemed to go through my stuff pretty randomly. I held up two items and asked why they couldn't take them (for my own future knowledge) and she decided they could take them. I appreciated it but wished she would have given everything in the bag a better look. Overall, I will be back to sell during my next closet clean out! read more

The entire staff past and present has always been very professonal, fashion wise, customer care savvy and very knowledgeable on intake sales for ensurance to please the fashion palate. The Aurora store has terrible lighting and a grimy warehouse feel. Nothing like the lovely boutique store in Bloomington, Illinois where I've shopped. I brought a bag of clothes to this Aurora location not more than a year old and in good shape from Lane Bryant. Some of it still had tags on them because I changed sizes before I could wear them. I was told they had two people in line to sell ahead of me and it would be more than an hour. Went to run an errand came back in 20 minutes and they handed the bag back to me saying the styles were old and they would buy nothing. Strange disappointing experience. I doubt they even looked in the bag. The buyers were not dressed well, loud and abrasive and couldn't spot style if it bit them. I'll be going back to the lovely Bloomington store. Wow this place is packed with a lot of designer clothes, shoes, and purses. I never knew this place existed until recently. Where have I been? If you go, plan to spend a lot of time browsing. I picked up some great designer shoes for under $20 each. I recently brought my son and if they would have had a restroom for customers, I would have stayed and shopped. I had to leave because my son just couldn't hold it. Yes, next time I'll go without him. But in this day and age, what (large) store doesn't allow customers to use the restrooms? Also, there are only like 3 dressing rooms. I was there on a Saturday and you couldn't even get a dressing room. Epic fail! I'd still shop there because of the selection, but now I know how to plan. They are also very picky about what they buy, which is good. I only got $20 total for my coach purse and uggs. The staff is...meh. Not very warm. You almost feel like you are bothering them when you cash out. They need a more friendly staff. I'd give 5 stars if they would improve the dressing rooms, restroom, and staff. I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would give this place a poor rating. I have been in a few times and have always been very happy with the prices and the large selection of clothing and purses. Today, I came in to find some work clothes and specifically a laptop bag. Rhonda was extremely helpful and friendly. She showed me the cardigans and offered to help in any way I needed. I found two lovely long sleeved tops for significantly cheaper than I would if buying new. The aqua cardigan I found is high quality for just over $10. The best part was when I asked Rhonda about laptop bags, and she immediately knew just what I was looking for. She found a perfect, high quality laptop bag with a stylish tote look for $8! Fun experience at this Clothes Mento location yesterday. Great inventory, great prices. One associate got my style and gave me perfect selections from the pile she was marking 75% off. I got so involved with filling my arms with items to try on, I dropped my wallet without realizing. The whole team sprung into action, and when it was found, they all cheered. I think that it is particularly upsetting tonight for me. I have been trying to get here for several months. Being both pregnant and having mono, it has been incredibly difficult to get over here and tonight I was finally able to pry myself out of bed because my rent is a week late and I really need the money as well as so much stuff out of my apt, however I walked in with kids in tow and several bags at 8:34pm and apparently they stop accepting at 8:30pm. I am disappointed. I am sad. I am frustrated. This is obviously not all about them, but I did just use the end of my tank of gas to drive the almost half an hour to get here and now I have to turn back and also my cc is frozen, so I cannot get more gas. I love Clothes Mentor and bounce from the Crest Hill location, Orland Park, and Naperville. This is bar far my least favorite location. It's cramped and the merchandise is always somewhat beatup for the price. Shoes that should go in the garbage are being sold for $24+. Yesterday a heavyset salesperson (Mayra/Shayla or something) with long hair was having a long conversation with a customer about how she likes to put things on hold for herself before they even hit the salesfloor. I thought sharing that with a customer was in bad taste. This particular customer was looking for a pair of Lulu black leggings and the sales clerk shared she had put a pair on hold for herself last week, that black LuLu leggings are hard to find. This same salesperson also told a man it would be "at least 30 minutes" for her to go thru his belongings, even tho there was no one in front of him. The man said he'd go run errands and come back - very inconvenient. I don't think I'm going to visit this location any longer, there are too many other locations to choose from. read more

Well I had to give one star but actually I give ZERO!!!!!!! The worst of all the stores. Today I was told that buys would take 4 hours!!!! That the person working was the only employee. That the manager was out due to her grandmother passing and the other assistant manager called in sick. Seriously you expect me to believe that. No way. Your store can't keep any employee's. You have lost my business for good. You don't treat your loyal customers well at all.I find it hard to believe that a person would work 12 hours without a bathroom break.
