I read the past reviews and I must say I was surprised at the low rating. I have visited here on multiple occasions and it's always positive. They are the friendliest group! Lindsey and Kathy helped my husband and I with such kindness. They spent a lot of time helping me decorate a wall in my home. They didn't have what we wanted in store so they helped us order online and ship to our house. I'll be back to buy even more soon. I need those lanterns in my life!! Even though there are not many recent reviews regarding the service, it seems that it has not gotten better. This was my first time at this location--it is not a full Pottery Barn and selections are limited, but I went in for a design appointment. I was greeted by a couple of sales people and was told that my designer was anticipating me coming. I never saw her. I did however hear her angry conversation on the phone with someone else. When it became apparent that she was not going to keep our appointment, I got up to leave. Someone took my number for a reschedule, but I never heard back from them. read more

Every time I have been in this store, no one is around to help. They seem to be short staffed as well as indifferent about helping customers if they are available to help. No one ever greets me. Asks me if I need anything, welcomes me to the store or anything. We are just finished with the new build of our home and I need to furnish every room- I had so many questions and not one got answered because when I asked someone if they had a minute she said she didnt. She didn't ask anyone else to help me... nothing. The entire "feel" of the store is like Walmart. read more

I have to say that I am really very surprised by reading previous reviews!! I have shopped at this location for years and have always been greeted or at least acknowledged with a smile if the staff is with a customer or on the phone. Twice in the past few months, I have had an employee go above and beyond. Once for a sales pillow sham, they located in Florida for me. Another, to take the time to wrap 2 shower gifts on a super busy Saturday. Come on folks, it takes just about the same time to write something nasty as it does to be kind. read more

This Pottery Barn is more like a mini store than an actual Pottery Barn showroom. They have a good selection of linens and china, but when it comes to furniture, they are sadly lacking. We ended up driving to Oak Brook to look at a media unit we were interested in, and were stunned at the difference in size between the two stores. Honestly, if you're looking for wide selection, I'd stick to online shopping. But, if you're in need of a housewarming gift or registering for an upcoming wedding, this location would probably meet your needs. It's located at the Geneva Commons shopping mall, closer to Randall and Williamsburg than Randall and Bricher. And it's conveniently close to Crate and Barrel (a much larger store with a significantly larger selection) if you're interested... One last FYI...Pottery Barn does offer complimentary in-home consultations if you're looking for design ideas or want to get their opinion about what pieces might work well in your space. read more

Was in a few months ago to buy a floor lamp that I had seen online. Sales ladies weren't very helpful and seemed to have an air of superiority. Was very turned off by this and decided to leave without my lamp. Why do the employees at this store act like customers are an inconvenience? If you know pottery barn, you know that they're known for their eclectic furnishings and home accessories. This is a store that's got a little bit of everything if you're wiling to pay their expensive prices. This particular location has been there for ten years and still looks just as new as it did the day it opened. Their furniture is classy and durable and they've always got their furniture on show in a way that inspires the decorator in little old me (even though I've got the world's most tiny apartment). The accessories here will complement any room. Check it out sometime, people. read more

Out of the whole Geneva Commons, this store has the WORST customer service. When you walk in the store, the employees act like you have the black plague and will not even bother to say hello. I don't understand why the employees are so full of themselves. They are at least 55 years of age or over and still do not know how to be friendly. If they do not like their job, they should leave. They act like they own the place, but the reality is they are working a minimum wage job with no benefits. Since the employees act like they have so much money, why are they even working? Maybe if they got an education on ethics and basic manners, I would spend some money there. Whoever runs this place needs to hire staff members with a personality and basic manners. read more

Very poor experience with Pottery Barn going back about a year ago. Was baited into purchasing several items with reward incentives. Initial purchase was a sectional, TV stand, & coffee table. The plans were to use the reward points to purchase an end table and some accessories. What wasn't disclosed was the fact that the rewards certificated that are sent in the mail have expiration dates. One of the items were on back order and the rewards certificates were not able to be applied as promised. This incurred a $500 expense that was not anticipated coupled with a 26% interest rate in the partnership with Comenity Bank. Donna the store manager refused to assist to get the issue resolved. I called today to cancel my card with them and was unable to do so. They would gladly open a line of credit for you however! Doing a bit of research they have a C- on the BBB. I called Donna today to see if see would assist in closing my card instead of being understanding, she hung up on me after I expressed my dissatisfaction. 2 calls will now be made. First The BBB, second to the Corporate headquarters. How this the store manager is still employed with this business is a wonder, clearly she is not on the customers side. What happened to good old fashioned customer service. you won't get it here that's for sure. read more

I wish there was an option for no stars. Literally THE WORST customer service at this location. Which is funny because I've gone to other locations and even at the outlet in JOliet I've received better service. I walked in ready to furnish every room. My first trip no one even acknowledged my existence I thought maybe because they were busy but literally one person was on the phone and the other seems like ran away as soon as I walked in. It was bizarre. The second time I walked in I had decent service with an associate asking about cabinets for my office and the store manager (found out later that was the store manager and couldn't believe it) looked so pissed off it was unreal. It's like she doesn't want to be there or something. I have no idea. She walked up to the associate and whispered something. It's was so awkward. I almost called corporate and complained but judging from the other reviews on here I don't think anyone cares about the lack of service at this location. I was very disappointed with the experience I had with the staff at this location. Extremely poor customer service. I write this in hopes that this location will be more intentional with hiring and training their employees in how to better interact with customers. I walked in with a shipping box because I wanted to make a return of something I purchased online. As I walked up to the desk, two employees were talking and gave me a bad look that made me feel like I was interrupting them. After I confirmed that I could return my online order in store, I asked if I could leave this box here while I went to get another box (I was returning a quilt, 3 euro pillows and 3 euro shams). When I was entering the store for a second time, I was clearly struggling with the large box I was carrying. I struggled to open the door (of which no employee offered to help) and then when I finally got in the store, I dropped the largely awkward box and it bumped a display coffee table. (the box was large, but light since it contained pillows and nothing was even remotely damaged). At the sound of the box dropping, another employee turned around and yelled at me to leave the box on the floor and told me that I should have taken it to the back of the store where someone could help me (how was I supposed to know that?!). The lady who was helping me make my returns just stared at me and the other employee. I calmly told the employee who yelled at me that other employee was helping me return the items and once she realized what was going on, she waved her hand and said fine. And I continued carrying my box to the desk (which is in the middle of the store), once again without any help. When I got to the desk, the employee handed me a piece of paper and said nothing. I asked if the money from the return would go back on my card and she explained, in an annoyed tone, that it would in about a week. And that was all. I understand that employees are people who can have bad days and that I was making a return and not a purchase, but there is still a sense where you take care of your customer. I was so disappointed in this experience that I will hesitate to buy from Pottery Barn again, but if I do it will definitely NOT be from this location. read more

This is the worst Pottery Barn I have ever been to. Specifically, the store manager Sue has to be the ABSOLUTE WORST retail manager I have met in my life. She did not allow me to take a $150 mirror off the wall because it is on display. Oddly enough, I just had come from a Pottery Barn in Naperville where they let me buy the display items. I have spent thousands of dollars at Pottery Barn in my lifetime, and have never had an issue. Sue seems to think it's more convenient for the customer to order online versus the store - something about corporate coming in needing to send this mirror???? What a joke....they're losing a customer and I need this mirror today. Usually, retail bends over backwards for their customers... I can speak from experience - the shareholders would rather sell me the mirror than tell me they need it for display. Word gets around and your reputation is everything, especially in this dying industry. SHUT DOWN THIS STORE OR GET A NEW MANAGER. read more

PB stuff is the same in all locations. This location is staffed by people who either do not understand customer service or who are trained not to do it. First, the headsets, a PB trademark, are clearly THE most disrespectful tool ever invented - first of all the associates are all listening to everyone BUT the customer right in front of them, if the phone rings - again you are out. The managers will never come and help an associate who is struggling - they will walk them thru it on the ear piece. Then - in a little known piece of customer service, if you buy something in the store ONLY that store can help you with delivery; if they do not have it and have to go online to order - then only ONLINE can help you and the customer service # knows nothing about orders placed in stores. REALLY!! I have been in a couple of times recently and each time the process from the time I get an associate to help me until I am done is more than 40 minutes...their products may be nice but are not worth the experience. read more

Last Wednesday morning was are first time at the Geneva commons location the store was a little busy but, not that busy where someone couldn't ask if i needed help. Finally a lady from the back that was carrying bags for another guest asked me if I needed helps and offered Champ sum treats and water I love dog friendly stores . . She helped me find everything I needed and more while she checked on other guest items as well !!!!! She even took her time to locate an item from others stores and gave me a sheet with the phone numbers and location on it. The employee gets my 5 STARS for her help with my purchase and her keeping Champ happy..... read more

I have lived in many places around Chicagoland and shopped at every PB store to furnish my homes, and this locations hands down has the nicest and most helpful employees and managers. I lived within 5 minutes of the Oakbrook store and would still make the trek to the Geneva store, bc the employees at OB were so unwarrantedly rude everytime I was in. Donna is the GM, but she is always on the salesfloor to help customers. Anytime I have had an issue with an order, she has rectified the situation in a timely manner. I have received great service from Sue (one of the managers I believe) as well as Lauren and Malou. Whenever I am in to buy gifts, they take the time to gift wrap them beautifully- a complete relief to me. Although this is a smaller store and they dont carry many of the collections, they are always glad to order anything I have needed. I once had a nightstand show up to my house damaged, Donna made sure I had a new one within a week. She is truly a master of customer service and should be training the employees of your Oakbrook store on how to behave and interact properly with customers, I cannot believe this is the case at one of your flagship locations. I am writing about the consistently poor service from the associates in Geneva Illinois. I have encountered: 1)blaming other associates for service disappointments such as "oh, she's new and doesn't know everything yet". Really?Throwing your colleague under the bus is pretty arrogant. 2) Associates are talking to each other while the customer is waiting at the counter. I don't care what you did on your vacation last week while I am waiting an eternity to be helped. 3) I tried to exchange faulty finials, the associate told me I could drive to a store 24 miles away to replace! I told her I could wait and she said she would "try" to call me when more arrived at the Geneva store.No call yet 10 days later. 4) They use the excuse "I'm really busy". Isn't that a no-no in customer service? 5) They generally have a feeling like they are doing YOU a favor by assisting them instead of you being their customer.6) Very poor job of training/mentoring. They put staff on the floor that are not ready. Not the newbie's fault, managers fault. I strongly suggest Pottery Barn does something to highlight the commitment they have to their customers. There are tons of great CS programs out there for your managers to roll model. I would love to say I will not shop there anymore, however I may need to on occasion. I know I will look for ways to avoid shopping there. The real zinger came when I tried to send this to the Pottery Barn customer service site. It wouldn't even let me send! Then I called the 888 phone number only to have the associate on the phone tell me that she can't take feedback from the customers and the only place I can do it is online. Beyond terrible. read more
