I went in w/ 3 bags of my young adults' daughters' clothing to get estimate of what they can take. I left to go run errands, they send me a text 7 minutes later to let me know my order has been complete. I go in, they had not taken anything for sale. I had to large totes with brand new clothes tags still on them and never been worn due to my weight loss the older lady at the cash register said we can't take more than 2 loads a day per person and she had a scowl on her face whatever happened to smiling and greeting a customer ? I guess that went out the window .. terrible customer service and the lady said it will be 3 1/2 hours to sort through the clothes and tells me you come back then. If you don't like your job find something you do like geezzz maybe smile one and a while. read more

I brought in brand new clothes with tags on them that had never been worn because of a weight gain. None of my items were deemed good enough for them to buy from me because they were for "juniors". However I am not a junior by any means. The clothes were size small to medium. It was a complete waste of time to drop off clothes and have to return 2 hours later to be told they couldn't accept my items. I'm not sure who looks at the clothes and determines whether they can be accepted or not but it was odd because the items I brought in looked better than the clothes on the rack. Very disappointing process.. Perhaps they should list their criteria for accepting clothes on the website before people waste time taking clothes to them. read more

Store only accepts clothes for resale 10am-4pm. This is not acceptable for people who work 9-5 jobs.

#1 I would never sell clothes to this store or any other run on their business model. My friend and I played a game at another Clothes Mentor store where I used to live. She brought in an expensive blouse with tags on that her aunt had just given to her. It was too small, and she wasn't going to mail it back. The store rejected it. I went to the store a month later with the blouse, and they offered to buy it. I could not buy a coffee for what they offered; I brought it home. It was later donated to a good cause, and I hope someone is enjoying her blouse from Anthropologie. Therefore, their buying policy is ruled by serendipity--not fashion sense nor business sense. If you think you can make $ selling them clothes, think again. You are their supply chain, but the are the buyers. #2 I sometimes buy clothes here. They have an amazing selection of jeans and interesting tops, too. But like any second hand store, you have to plow through rack after rack to find a few gems. If you like shopping, it's sort of a paradise. You can pick up some bargains here, especially on their 30% off rack. The merchandise runs from Old Navy to Michael Kors, so you never know what will be in the store. Recommendations: 1) Buy, but do not sell them anything. Try Poshmark instead. 2) Look at their bargain racks. 3) Jeans are probably the best buy in the store. read more

I took all brand new shoes to this store today. The shoes were very expensive. All still in original box with tags attached. They offered me $11 total for all three of them and all of these shoes are new and showing $50 or more on the box for them. The male employee said to me once I agreed not to sale them, and I stated I would rather just donate them. He commented back with attitude : "that doesn't make any sense.". I don't understand the low yelp rating for this store. From the moment I entered the door everyone was super friendly and helpful. I brought several large bags of clothing in to sell and they told me it would be about an hour and a half to look through my items. Not a problem and pretty average for stores like clothes mentor. I ran some errands while I waited and was please to get a text letting me know that my items were ready within the time frame they had stated. And I had until 8pm to pick it up. After my errands I returned to the store to pick up my belongings and get my quote. I was surprised to be offered more than I had expected and they even gave me an itemized receipt of what they bought! No more mystery to the process. I've sold at Plato's closet several times and I've never gotten a itemized receipt of what they purchased, this is amazing! I highly recommend this store of you're looking to sell some of your gently used items. I'll definitely be returning :) read more

I went to the Germantown store and brought in work attire that had been purchased mostly from Macy's. The name brands were Alfani, Style and Company, and MCollection . These clothes were in very good shape and sellable. They informed me that my clothes did not qualify and sent all my clothes back. I was told that they styles were too old. So when does work attire become too old? Needless to say I will never return or suggest anyone else shop there. read more

The employees in the store are rude Ada they like you have junk. I had over 10 items mostly new with tags- they were less than a year old date sad the were outdated. They sad te wouldn't take the brand, which were $100 items yet they have target brand items there- they took some for a big $10- very disappointed in the staff- won't be going or recommending. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Good selection, organized. One of the owners helped me the day I came. He was polite, respectful and very helpful. The fitting room doors may be faulty, however. I watched as he unlocked it to let me in and after I entered he locked it behind me, I believe, so no one could walk in on me. The doors are supposed to open from the inside so the people changing can come out when finished. When I tried to open my door, it didn't yield. Now, I'm apt to not push hard enough on doors when entering or exiting but I don't know. I mentioned it to him and hopefully he will look into getting it fixed. read more

My daughter opened an account at Torrid in Tanger Mall in Southaven. I was cleaning her room and found things that she had not worn and still had tags on them. Clothes Mentor refused these items. One of the male workers whispered something to the cashier while I was standing at the counter. I thought this was so rude! Later on, I thought about it, and I think he thought I stole the items because the tags were still on the merchandise. read more

I have to say, I was extremely disappointed with my experience here today. They are only buying clothes right now (not sure when they will begin actually selling them), so I stopped by around 3pm with 6 items. I was promptly greeted and asked if I knew how this worked. Well, I've done consignment before, so I said "Yup, you look at my stuff and tell me if you want it." The girl laughed and added that, unlike consignment, they offer cash on the spot. Ok, sounds good! Except, when I asked if I could browse while I waited (the racks were pretty well-stocked), I was told that I needed to come back before 6pm. Wait -- come back? Confused, I explained that I live in Midtown, and drove to Cordova specifically to sell these items. I was told that my items would be checked over in turn, and that I would need to come back in a few hours. But, even though they normally require that you return the same day, she assured me that I could come back at my convenience. Further attempts on my part to explain that no, I did not want to come back at all, fell on deaf ears, so I beat feet for the parking lot, figuring I'd sort it out later.... ...leaving my driver's license behind (which they require for the drop-off process, and had not returned to me at that point). A guy came out looking for me as I headed back in, and I explained once again the incredible inconvenience of having to return, since I don't live anywhere near Cordova and I was led to believe that "cash on the spot" meant, you know, sometime around now-ish, not drop and come back in a few hours or days. Apparently he is the owner/manager/guy in charge, and he told me that I could come back at my convenience or have someone else come back for me (even though, again, that's against the rules), but I could not cut in line to have my items looked at sooner. So some rules can be broken, but not others, apparently. I could call around 5pm, he said, to see if they had gotten to my stuff, but that was all he could do for me...and he then launched into a lecture on how we are "blessed to be vertical and breathing," he is "blessed with so much business" which is causing the delay, I am "lucky to have a car and a bed," yada yada. Sorry, but I came to sell some clothes, not for a sermon on how lucky I am! I made my escape at that point and found some errands to run in Cordova, which took me till about 4:30pm. I called and asked if they had gotten to my stuff, was asked for my name at least twice, overheard everyone being asked, and told that no, they hadn't gotten to me. I asked if they would in another 20 minutes (since I was about 20 minutes away), and was told...maybe. Fine. I showed up again around 5pm, I waited patiently while they helped some ladies with multiple trash bags of clothes (yikes!) that were left in front of the counter for me to trip over, and was then told by the same guy that my stuff was, yes, still 20 minutes out. Ok, I said, just give it back to me please and I'll be done. He asked if I was sure (I was), and then proceeded to hunt around for the basket with my stuff. I was a little confused about how he knew how long it would take, if he didn't know where my basket was! He finally produced my items, and gave me a loyalty card fully punched-out for a 20% discount on a purchase, which I'm sure I'll never use, since, as I said repeatedly, I live in Midtown and do not ever go to Cordova. Overall, it was a much more frustrating and time-consuming process than I had been led to believe. In the amount of time the manager guy spent telling me why my clothes hadn't been looked at, why I had to come back, etc. etc., he could have just LOOKED at my whopping 6 items, made a decision, and sent me on my way. Why no one did that, I have no idea, but it would have made for a much better experience! Also, at least while they are only buying, their hours are 12pm-6pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays -- apparently the hours on the card I was given are for when they start selling as well. Very confusing, so I suggest checking hours before you go, as well as being prepared to come back in a day or two to collect your "cash on the spot." I have visited this location with a wide selection of dressy, business and casual clothes to sell. From the moment I walked in I felt a negative attitude from the staff. They were very cold and made me feel as though I was bringing in used junk they could not be bothered with. When you walk in the door, there are bags and crates of items people are dropping up and picking up and you are left to figure where to go to start. I had many name-brand items (many with price tags still attached) and after waiting for almost an hour was told that they were not the high quality items they buy. (I found this to be odd since I saw alot of items on the shelves that looked straight out of Wal-Mart and quite used.) Not a good first impression and I won't be back. read more

If you like thrift stores, then you are in for a treat!! Organized confusion is what I like to call it!!! I love looking for treasures and in here you will find a bunch. Some of the earlier reviews are from before the store opened and maybe one after it opened. Of course if you are in the news and publicized you are going to be slammed with people coming. So any reasonable person would understand this when dropping off clothing. The prices are fair when buying and selling, and it doesn't matter what they offer, it is clothes you were giving away for free anyway!! (duh) Forget a price tag, you were giving them to Goodwill or away to somebody, so stop complaining! I am tired of Plato's Closet turning me down about everything because it is to "mature", I am so glad this opened in Memphis. I bring items in every week almost. And shop almost every other day!! I've sold clothes to Clothes Mentor three times now - three consecutive Saturdays. The first time was great - short wait time and they bought 95% of what I took in. The second and third times were a bit of a disappointment - much longer wait times (the word is spreading!) and they only bought a few items. And I took in my best stuff on the third visit so I was a little dumbfounded. I'm sure they would have explained why they rejected things if I had asked. But really it doesn't matter. Overall I'm pleased to get a few bucks out of my old clothes that I would have taken to Goodwill otherwise. I've dealt with several different employees - including the owner - and everyone is very nice. The racks are getting pretty full. The owner said they'll be open to sell in mid March. My advice - don't take too much at a time (it's a little embarrassing to have to walk out with as many bags/boxes as you brought in) and be prepared to run errands in Cordova while you wait. My last time in, the wait was over 2 hours. read more

I actually really like the products in this store. I am a huge believer in purchasing second hand goods and I have vocalized to many of my peers to visit this store to purchase their professional "snappy casual" clothes. I completely regret my endorsement now, due to my interaction with the owner while attempting to make a return. I purchased 14 items and spent a decent amount of money on 6/13/2017. I came home to realize that there were faint yellow stains on a white blouse I purchase that I must have over looked. I hadn't worn it, it wasn't a sale item, the tags were still on it, and I brought it back to the store within 7 days for store credit - like the policy that is outlined on the receipt states. The first thing the owner did was raise his voice at me in a very demeaning manner without even looking at the item and asked when I purchased the blouse. I informed him that I purchased it 6 days ago and showed him the receipt. He didn't look at the receipt, took the item, and said that he is not going to take it back because there is NO WAY he sold it to me in that state. I continued to let him know that since I bought 14 items that day I most likely over looked it and didn't see the stains on it. He continued to yell and berate me in front of all the customers and employees in the store refusing to make the return. I tried to keep my composure and hold back tears because I couldn't believe what was happening. I asked him what we could do moving forward because I did everything according to policy, and after being yelled at was not very satisfied with my service. He had nothing to say, so with no response I left the store and the tarnished blouse I purchased with them. As I left the store he shouted after me and insisted I take a coupon for a $5 credit.... He must have known he was wrong because if he was so insistent on not doing the exchange for store credit, why would he then offer me a credit as I left the store and his merchandise? I have never in my life experienced so much disrespect when returning an item to any establishment. I not only followed the policy, but came in with a humble attitude only to be responded to with a lack of decency. I'm not sure why he felt the need to treat me this way, or if this is common behavior from him, but as the owner of an establishment I'd suggest to treat ALL customers no matter the age, gender, or race with respect. Do not make assumptions about someone's character or the validity in their word. Also, please stay true to your policies as your customers do. It is illegal not to. read more

The reason for the bad reviews are not for the store so much but that they are refusing clothes and/or robbing the sellers of $. I would give zero stars if that was a choice. I took in about 75-100 items. At least 1/3 of them(maybe 1/2) were brand new with tags (including a new pair of shoes never worn)and bought within the last year. They were neatly hung on nice hangers. The girl asked me to remove the hangers.. which I did. I left my things for an hour.. came back and she offered me $9 for one $70 dress from dillards new with tags,a brand new pair of $45 shoes, and a pair of $50 pillazzo pants . That is all they wanted to buy. They gave me back my clothes all wadded up in 3 laundry baskets. I will now have to rehang them. I will be giving them to a women's shelter. I did not take their $9. Perhaps some kind of explanation might be nice when you are refused almost all of the items you brought in? Just ..." here are your things.. have a nice day" just kind of set me off. It was a huge waste of my time today. Perhaps I learned to give is better than to receive ... I must have really bad taste in clothing‍, and I should have smiled and said thank you instead of responding like I did.. which was pretty much just with nothing at all... just took my things and left. Perhaps you will have better taste and they will want your things and pay you all the $$ for them. read more

Today was the last time I will set foot in this shop! I have tried. I have really tried. These folks apparently expect you to go shop at a high end store, wear the item no more than once, then bring it to them so they can give you pennies for it. They told me "the fabric was not current". Seriously? Fabrics don't go out of style. They told me items were "more than 2 years old". Yeah. But, professional jackets and blazers do not change very much. Jones New York, Kasper, etc. jackets rarely change! You could probably go to any Macy's store and find a brand new one just like the ones I took. Then, they actually took a purse that was at least 10 years old. This place is a joke. read more

Awful experience. Will not go back. I drove all the way out here on the 20th and dragged 4 bags of stuff to the door. The door was locked. They finally answered and said they had changed their mind about buying before their grand opening. I asked "Why didn't you put that in your Facebook ad instead of saying you were still buying? ". So today we drove all the way there through massive traffic , dragged all 4 bags inside to be told we stopped buying at 6 you missed it by 10 minutes. I explained my situation but the man would not waiver. I won't be fighting again to take stuff out there. Stuff didn't look too good inside the store either. The store is neatly organized, but honestly I can get comparable savings on quality clothing on sale at Macy's without sifting through hundreds of items. I find their buying guidelines confusing, so I'll stick to Ebay when I have clothing to sell. They claim to only accept clothing that is no older than two seasons, but I have seen on their racks items I have in my closet purchased more than two years ago. They have a sign in the store saying they are in the market for coats, and I brought in a beautiful Jones New York coat in mint condition that was turned down. They also offered me $5 for a brand-new, current season purse purchased at Macy's that I'd never used. I declined and will get a fair price on Ebay. I won't be making the drive out there again. read more

After hearing countless radio commercials for this place I decided to stop by and check it out. The store is very well organized but everything was way overpriced. I mean, they are selling USED "better brands" (read - shopping mall labels) for prices that you would find on retail clearance racks. Everything I looked at was in good condition, but if I'm buying used clothes it better be one heck of a deal. Needless to say, I didn't buy a single thing. I spent about 2-1/2hours of my precious time going through each individual rack to find some items that I wanted to purchase. I decided on about 10 outfits. I politely took them to the counter and informed an employee that I wanted to purchase the outfits but I needed them to hold them for me because I wasn't finished shopping. She said that was fine so I place them on the counter and continued to shop. Once I was completely done shopping , I stood at the counter for a minute but the owner Lori didn't notice me because she was focusing her attention elsewhere, so I said "mam I am ready to check out and they are holding my other items that I would like to purchase". She couldn't find them so she asked another employee if she had seen them. she stated "I put them back on the rack." The owner told her to see if you could retrieve them. She found two of my items on a rack, and I informed her that other customers in the store had some of my items in their hand. I informed the owner Lori as well. She looked up at me with a nonchalant attitude, while smacking food in my face "sorry" Lori, you could have at least tried to explain to the other customer that those clothes were suppose to be on hold and was put back due to been unorganized. Your business has a 2-1/2 star rating. That should tell you a lot about your business. Apparently it's unorganized and has the lack of customer service. Great customer service is priceless, and it defines your brand. You showed no compassion about the situation at all. My experience didn't match my expectations. This store has potential so I am hoping the store manger Dee can build it up with her personality and awesome customer service skills, but I hope she starts the building process with the owners. read more

I had seen this store for a while, and understood it to be kind of like a Plato's closet. Well, I decided to go and try my luck at selling Chico's brand sweaters with a Jones New York Jacket ($90 and vintage I might add). Now these clothes were never worn, the jacket and one Chico's shirt even having their respective tags (the Chico's shirt was $50 according to the tag). I even called to see if these were brands worth going up there with. Well, after a 20 minute drive over and waiting for them to appraise the selection, I got $4. A whole $4. I understand the policy is they'll give you a 1/3 of that theyre gonna sell if for but $4 are you kidding me? You're telling me, you're going to sell a $90 jacket with tags for $12? That's a lie and we both know it. Not for any of the Chico's items (aka the ones I CALLED ABOUT TO BEGIN WITH), but for the VINTAGE FUCKING JACKET. I couldn't even refuse the offer because we had wasted all of our gas just getting there. With over $200 in clothes, they turned it all down aside from a NINETY DOLLAR JACKET WHICH THEY FELT WAS WORTHY OF $4. I never shopped here before, and now I'm going to make sure no one I care about even considers wasting a penny here. Clearly whatever computer program they use to calculate how much you get back needs to be updated, possibly checked for bugs, but definitely checked in the least. read more

Good store if you want to buy something. But don't get your hopes up if you want to sell anything! They won't buy anything unless it is brand new with tags on it or barely only worn once. And then they only offer $2-$3 MAX for each item. One of the items they purchased from me still had a $60 price tag on it and they offered me $3.00 for it. I carried in 2 large bags of clothes, shoes, and handbags. I wasn't expecting much bc I had sold to Plato's Closet before--that was a rip off. The lady at the counter said that it wouldn't be long bc they weren't very busy. I waited around for 30 min and they still were not ready. So I left ran a few errands and came back a hour and half later. When I came in they were ready, they explained why they couldn't take some of the items(NBD). there was also a basket with clothes in it, which those are the ones they want to buy, she bagged them up and told me to have a good day. they do offer $5 in-store cash just for bringing clothes in. I got about 5 mins away when she called and said they wanted to make an offer on the clothes that were in the basket. I turned around again no big deal. Had I realized they were going to rip me off for the clothes I would've asked what the offer was over the phone. I got there with the clothes, they were all new or had only been worn once. I was offered $8.00 for 3 tops, 2 dresses, and a skirt. Next time I will just sell my clothes to friends. read more

i've went into the Clothes Mentor recently and was quite disappoint I felt like I was in Plato's Closet for a younger age group. I was not impressed with the selection that was available Clothes looked very worn and out dated, the buyer were very young and I didn't feel like they knew what to buy for the over 30 group. I also took in several pieces of clothing that were in very good shape some even had tags on them. They ended up buying 3 pieces from me and I will admit I was pleased with the price but quite shocked that they did not buy several other things. When I questioned why they said the clothing had spots on them and that they were over their two year limit. That's funny because I had not even worn several of the pieces that I had bought last year, and the 3 pieces that they did bought were each over 5 years old. Still in style but way past their two year limit. I do think they need to teach the buys to buy for the age group and not for what early 20's like. I won't go back. read more

I brought 4 items in today for resale to this business. All but 1 were White House Black Market size XXS in excellent to new condition. After waiting 1.5 hours shopping in this store , I went to the checkout and inquired as to the items I brought in to sell. Conveniently (for them), I was told they "didn't buy XXS clothes" and wouldn't purchase any of these beautiful, high quality expensive items and offered me the $5 coupon off my NEXT purchase. This was AFTER I just spent $28 not 30 seconds before. I couldn't believe they didn't offer the $5 coupon for my purchase!!!!! Tacky Tacky Tacky! I love thrift and second hand stores, but it is a NEVER worth it to sell your stuff to this business. This is the second time I've brought items for sale and had a bad experience. Please save yourself the aggravation and give your clothes to a good non profit thrift store or sell them yourself on eBay. You will feel a lot better about it. read more
