I have been to Clothes Mentor multiple times, both to sell clothes/shoes/purses and to buy. Chrystal is AMAZING. She's warm and welcoming, and the store always looks neat and clean. The prices are very reasonable, and there's a huge selection of items to choose from. If you go to sell clothes/shoes/purses, just know that they look for newer items that are in good condition. They are times I've taken clothes to sell and Chrystal bought almost everything, and there have been times when she bought almost nothing...and that's okay by me. read more

I have bought and sold at this location several times. The manager has always been less than friendly or welcoming, but today's experience was the worst. There was a young girl working who was anything but friendly or helpful, then the manager was very rude when I returned to pick up my clothes and cash. She was going to look for my bag and I was telling her the color of the bag and she turned around and said, "I"m going as fast as I can!" very rudely. I was shocked as I was only telling her the color of my bag to help her find it in the pile of bags located behind the counter. I was very shocked as I used to shop at the one in NRH nearby my previous home and everyone was always so welcoming and helpful. They were really kind and let you know what they are looking for up front. You have until 1800 to pick up your items. If you miss that your items will be donated and if they decided to pay you money it will be forfeited. I didn't even get up the street and they were already done with my baskets. They passed on it, I tried to tell them they may have missed out on some items cause one of my daughters used a trash bag. No Trash bags No hangers No loose items The items were not all folded when I entered, yet they were neat. Not when I got them back. I've never had a negative experience at this location. The staff has always been friendly and amazing. I love having life chats with C because she is someone I always connect with. And I truly admire her for her work ethic and the expectations she has for her staff and customers alike. If you can't set those types of expectations and boundaries you cannot run a tight or successful ship. The standards and quality of the items they accept to sell is always impressive and if I were more rich I'd be walking out of the store with more items than I could count. Good buying experience. This is a good store with affordable prices. Crystal the manger can be rude & picky with she buys and for strange reasons blocks people on Facebook. Service could definitely be improved. Also other clothes mentor will let you shop online and ship. This location does not anymore you have to call purchase other the phone. Sales people definitely follow you around. Everything has security tags but they seem to think everyone steals. I don't think the sales people following is racial I think has to do with how the customer is dressed. Perfect hair and makeup and clothes they are nice but you come in workout clothes or casual clothes they definitely treat you different. Uptown cheapskate has much better service and a bathroom. No restroom here and everything must be in a tote or bag for selling. Also this is bagless store so be prepared to bring your own shopping bag if you purchase anything. read more

BEWARE the manager is aweful! My friend went in there to sell, got handed a wad of money and as she was counting it Crystal (the manager with lipstick outside of her lips) says 'have a nice day'. My friend replied thank you back and then Crystal yelled it her. Yelled! My friend thought she was yelling at someone across the store, but actually she was yelling it at her because she didn't think my friend had said it back. I love shopping secondhand. However, if you're looking for fashionable, quality pieces, I highly suggest you visit the Alliance Clothes Mentor, where both the selection and overall experience are better. I assume the selection is poor at this location due to the rudeness of the Hulen Clothes Mentor staff driving people away. Other reviews have mentioned feeling belittled or spoken to rudely by the staff here, and I can confirm this 100%. I'll also confirm another review stating that the store is decorated with signs saying "DO NOT ____" creating an unwelcoming atmosphere the moment you walk in the door. You can then expect to be eyed like a criminal and treated like a child by none other than the Hulen Clothes Mentor manager. For example, my sister asked to look at a designer purse behind the counter, and the manager pointed away and said, "The cheap purses are over there." I have been here several times and had to eventually stop going because I realized I could go to the Alliance location and actually have a pleasant experience. I could go on, but I'll spare you the details and leave you with this: visit the Alliance Clothes Mentor (off North Freeway) instead. Staff are friendly and nice. After reading the Google reviews, I noticed that complaints are researched through video and transaction records. This incident occurred on May 24 in the afternoon. We met the manager Crystal last year, and she was very kind and sweet to my mom and I. She had such a bright energy. However, it was the other two employees who treated us poorly. It was an employee named Desiree, who had face piercings, and another with black hair. My mom wanted to see a blue dress she had spotted on their Facebook live stream. I found a couple of dresses I liked and approached a sales associate. She looked annoyed and said, "If you're trying on clothes, hold on. If not, just set the clothes down on the counter." When she finally unlocked the dressing room, she told me there was a six-item limit. I acknowledged this, saying my mom could hold the rest, or I could put them on the rack. She responded harsh, saying if I put them on the rack, they would put them back. I understood it was afternoon, and they might have been overworked, but that didn't justify her tone. I was like okay, I'm just going to enjoy this the best I can and try the dresses on because it was recently my birthday. My mom and I always shop at JCrew, Madewell and Loft but this time we wanted to try something different because my mom sees the Facebook lives and always wanted to see the clothes the manager shows After trying on some dresses, I accidentally locked myself out. I felt anxious about encountering more discourtesy. Desiree came over, opened the door with an attitude, and explained the doors locked themselves when closed, then walked away. Despite the unpleasantness, I decided to buy two dresses. Desiree was the cashier and mentioned that they were going green with no bags and asked for my phone number. But I told her I just wanted to check out and so that I could avoid breaking down in tears from the attitude they were displaying. She mumbled something I couldn't hear and seemed annoyed. I expressed that this was my first time in my life experiencing such rudeness, especially at a store, to which she defensively replied, "How were WE rude? You and your mom were laughing at the other employee." I replied back. "That never happened. We said she had an attitude because all I asked for was a dressing room." She shot back, "No, you were laughing." The first sales associate, the one with the initial attitude, raised her voice to make sure everyone heard, "If you want to complain, there's a card in the front." I snapped and said, "Shut up, I'm not talking to you." (Which now I apologize since it was rude, but I gave attitude back just like how they did in the beginning when all I wanted was to try a couple dresses on for fun) Desiree then said, "If you guys are going to act like that, I'm going to ban you from my store." My mom, sensing the escalating tension, said in Spanish, "Leave the clothes there, let's leave. It's not important." I turned to the cashier and said, "Never mind, I don't want this anymore," and we left. As we were leaving, the first associate muttered something to the cashier. Furious, I muttered, "Fuck you." She yelled back, "Fuck me? No, fuck you," loud enough for everyone to hear. This was the first time I had ever lost my composure like that. I've always been supportive of businesses and respectful towards retail workers. However, this incident pushed me to my breaking point. Despite just browsing for dresses with my mom, we encountered hostile behavior from the employees. While I apologize for my language, their actions were unacceptable, especially considering our previous positive experience with the owner. When I got to my car, I broke down in tears. My mom also noticed these two employees treating Hispanic women and an elderly lady poorly, which felt like discrimination. I am never returning to this store. While they may not lose business from two customers, others should be aware of how rudely these employees treat people. read more

The staff is so rude!!!!! I will never go back here again!! All I asked was if they closed at 6p today. She "yes and the store hours are listed o the door when you walk in". I've tried shopping and donating multiple times. The clothes are fine but the staff are honestly always so rude! Today a lady tried to make me feel guilty for dropping off a donation, acting like it was putting her out a ton because they were so busy. A couple of hours later they texted that my items had been reviewed so I returned to the store. The same lady asked for my last name when I arrived. I gave it to her and waited for her to get my items. She was looking down at the register then looked up suddenly and, very rudely, said "what?!? I can tell when people are staring at me!" Reviewing as a shopper vs. seller The store is clean, well organized, fairly priced, and staffed well. I really have zero negative comments about the place, other than, the selection of shoes is pretty sparse. Having said that, I did buy a pair of cute Keds for $12 on my most recent visit. This location has a few shelves of high end pieces kept behind the counter (all for sale), as well as, a great selection of affordable accessories i.e. purses, belts, jewelry, and scarves to sift and sort through at your leisure. I've shopped at this store during the work week and weekend (both mid-day) and have never had to wait for a dressing room. Their return policy varies based on certain items, but is always clearly explained before final purchase. They don't sell men's clothing. read more

This review is only based upon the pre-opening for inquiry minds and intakes. I'm always in this nearby area and one day after shopping I happen to see this new store. Deciding to take a closer look for full details on the new addition to Overton Park strip I noticed that the store was mostly bare with a few people working inside. Signs on the door stated they were open for intake of items so I went in and was welcomed with a couple of friendly faces that ask how they could help. Store was very nice and clean with newly polished rolls of racks awaiting designer deeds of fashion and all the essentials prepared for opening.Approaching Clerk #1 with an inquiry about the store she gave me the history mentioning that the owners were the same as Platos plus a well know childrens re-sale store and that the very first store started in Ohio before coming to Texas. Clerk #2 which I think was the manager was so informative and trying to make sure everything was working and done in proper order. Clerk #3 seemed very excited about the store and opening with share some pointers on what sets them apart from your average re-sale store. With the history I think CM will be a better store due to the fact that they are more organized. Catering only to upper designer women slightly used clothes, coats, shoes, purses, perfumes etc. They have a more upgraded system for a much easier pay-out without a long wait. You can drop items off and they will text or call you when ready if you don't won't to wait. Items are being accepted now from 10:00am until 6:00pm daily. The store opens to the public in September 2012. Make sure to sign-up for their Grand Opening celebration and special invitations for donated customers. Not being a big fan of these type of stores makes me wanting to be on a fanship bases with CM for real! Welcome to the neighborhood and I hope the success will prosper for many years to come. Bought a few things and realized when I got home they only gave me 15% off. I went back and was told that discount was not at this location. Only the other two Clothes Mentor stores in the metroplex. After reading reviews, I knew to expect my donation to not be fully accepted. I knew to make sure I was only donating clothing that was new and/or in immaculate condition. That being said, several items were "bought" from me for a total of 10 dollars. These items were brand new with tags at about a 70 dollar value. It felt like a ripoff and waste of time, I will save the time and donate for free to those in need in the future. However, their customer service was quick and efficient. read more

I have come to this location several times as a buyer and I have loved it. I always walk away with several great quality pieces. As a seller: This was my first time selling and it couldn't have gone any better. It was such an easy process! I signed in with my drivers license and had to put in all my contact information. After, I opted to have Clothes Mentor text me when they were done looking through my clothes. The estimated time was 2 hours and 30 mins, but it took a little less than 2 hours. I was able to run a coupe of errands and eat lunch and it was finished. In total, I had about 30 items and they took 18 of the items. I was surprised after reading the reviews, because I had expected them to take way less and I wasn't going to receive much back.
