My guess is being a shopper versus a seller offer different experiences. My visit was strictly as a shopper. First things I noticed was the organization of the store, from the clothing types and sizes to spaces for shoes and accessories. I also appreciated the sizing went from XS - 3x (and in some cases 4-5x). Price tags were easy to read and fitting rooms were offered. I wasn't initially impressed with the clothing. Brands were basic, and that's okay, but the condition and pricing wasn't aligned. My husband spotted a dress he thought I should try on and it still had tags, and I appreciated the fit and purchased it. I also saw a fun pair of Pumas in good shape that I took as well. I'd go back - there's fun accessories in addition to clothing, but I'd need to have time and energy to shop so that I could find 1-2 items that hit the mark for condition and price. Do check things carefully - I loved a pair of sandals but when slipping them off I noticed a tear. Service was quick at the register and the only time we needed assistance. You can share your information to earn points for purchases. Only women's clothing and accessories, no children or men's. Shared space with several businesses and plenty of parking. read more

I dropped off a bag of new designer clothing... Cool. They took my $150 designer sweater, $100 Designer cotton shirt, and another $70 Designer shirt... They offered me $10. I do agree... they're not the friendliest bunch... I sent them 5 pairs of new jeans... never worn... they refused. All is good. I don't recommend Clothes Mentor... They gave me almost $18 for that dress and some other very nice clothing. Tucked away in a shopping center on N. Hubbard's lane is Clothes Mentor. The size of the store was decent sized for a clothing store and had a variety of women's clothing and accessories. I wasn't very impressed with the handbag selection, it seemed it was smaller than the other locations. I did find a few shirts and a dress I liked all for a bargain price. I got 3-4 shirts and a dress all for under $40. I saved a little more when I got 10% for checking in. The employees here were friendly and asked if they could help me with anything, even offered me a shopping basket which I politely declined. I do like this store the most so far, the other locations are also great. I will say I wish the handbag selection was much bigger. You will find some great bargains here though. read more

I'm honestly surprised by all of the poor reviews for this place. I actually came in with pretty low expectations due to this, but ended up loving it. Note that I have never tried to sell anything here, just purchased. I have been to other name brand thrift stores before and am usually not impressed. I have to say that this Clothes Mentor was very organized, clean, and most of the clothes are in like-new condition. I've purchased a few things where you can't even tell they've been touched before. While the racks vary by category (athletic, semi formal, everyday wear,) there are also a few racks specifically for in trend brands. I've bought a ton of Lululemon pieces here for around $20-$30 (regularly around $100.) Other popular brands like Tory Burch, Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade etc... you can find for about the same price. There are some items that seem a bit overpriced for being used, so you pretty much just need to use your best instinct on it. I haven't found anything yet that was poor quality. Service was not good in either location - not a friendly staff. They are like "why are you bothering me!" The selection is good - but the prices are a little too high for the 2nd hand merchandise. I noticed they buy items very cheap and sell items high. Personally, I wish there was another option out there... I don't have to go hunting through the store and searching every rack. Several fitting rooms in the back. Friendly staff, clean and well lit store. Clothes Mentor is one of my new favorite places in the 'ville. As a seasoned bargain hunter and gal who loves looking great at a fraction of the original retail, I know a thing or two about finding great clothing. My personal experience with Clothes Mentor was excellent. I recently had quite a few things in my closet that I wanted to clear out and had been frustrated at both the length of time and small return I got from consigning clothing in the past. I had heard about Clothes Mentor in the past and decided to do some research on their website before taking anything in. CM offers you cash on the spot for your name brand merchandise in excellent condition. You can bring it in in a laundry basket, no hangers like some picky consignment stores demand. Many of my items were ones that I purchased, had never worn, and had left the tags on. Maybe that was part of the reason that their offer on the clothing I brought in was way more than I was expecting and an amount I was thrilled to receive. I would definitely recommend selling your old name brand clothing here. And once you've gotten that cash from them, you might want to spend a little of it on some of the amazing deals they have in their store. The store is clean, well-organized, and feels more like a store at the mall with all new merchandise than a store with previously owned name brand clothes. I kept combing through the racks and was thrilled to find designer shoes, clothes, purses, and accessories on the very cheap. Overall my experience at Clothes Mentor was excellent. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Staff was terribly rude when I brought in clothes to sell. They told me I would have to leave the clothes with them and then come back later to pick up whatever they didn't want. I only made it 3 minutes down the road before they were calling me, but then said they couldn't give me any information over the phone and I would have to come back in to see if they would buy anything. They were rude again when I reentered the store, told me they wouldn't buy anything out of the multiple bags of lightly worn dresses because they "weren't buying anything sleeveless" (at least 3 of those dresses have 3/4 to full length sleeves) and then gave me a $5 store coupon for coming in. I gave the coupon to someone shopping in the store because I will never be returning. read more

A few months ago, I took in several bags to sell. They wanted the top of a dressy pants suit but not the pants because they "don't take suits." They were also advertising to buy athletic style shoes but refused a perfect, once-worn pair of Converse chucks because of "condition" but couldn't be more specific. They also declined several other items in excellent shape because they were "out of season." However, this weekend I found on their racks a duplicate blouse I'd owned 12 years ago. Theirs was faded and and very stretched out. Additionally, I was shopping with my 81 year old mother who had extreme difficulty in the dressing room because there was nothing to sit on. When I asked one of the employees about it, she stated they used to have chairs but someone got hurt on one and sued so they got rid of them. I asked what would happen if someone got hurt because of not having a chair and her response was, "I don't know. I'm not the owner." I later did some digging about this issue and I'm pretty sure it's an ADA violation. read more

Last week while standing in line at the counter waiting to purchase two designer bags and a coin purse, a lady was standing next to me looking at the designer purses as well, an employee walks up and asks the lady if her name was whatever and the lady smiled and said yes, the employee went on to say "your banned Shelly or Shelby saw you on tape switching tickets" just as loud as you please to the lady. I was horrified for her at the lack of discreetness, the employee showed, and thought HOW RUDE, the employee could have cared less how she embarrassed the woman, the lady asked if the manager could call her regarding this and the lost in the sauce employee said "She doesn't know when she'll have availability to call you" I'm thinking you had ALL the availability to accuse her but you can't be professional and call her? If you ask me I hope she NEVER bothers to return because for the embarrassment of the lady and unprofessional behavior and attitude of the employee I DID NOT buy the two designer MCM bags and coin purses I was going to buy! The way they were so lackluster about embarrassing that woman I will NEVER return. SHAME on you Clothes Mentor for having NO DECENCY! I'm disgusted and appalled that you are allowing such rude behavior and that the management team ALLOWS the employees to conduct themselves this way! I love Clothes Mentor and I've been a regular for years. Buying and selling is super easy here, friendly faces greet you the moment you walk through the door, and a wide selection of designer and name brand lightly worn goods fill the aisles (and for decent prices, too!). A perfect place to find a beautiful dress for date night or some business casual clothes for the office. They carry brands like lululemon, Kate Spade, Lulu's, Michael Kors, and J. Crew. Also, a great athleisure selection! Only complaints are the crowded store layout and the music! Some items seem pretty overpriced but others are steals! Hit or miss but mostly hits! read more

Regular, here! I come to CM all the time and have for several years. I am disappointed to see so many poor reviews. I'm not sure what people expect, but this *is* a store that sells clothes second-hand. Of course some items are worn, washed, stretched. The staff does do a pretty good job of only taking quality items, although some not-so-new things fall through the cracks. And yes, people, it does have a bit of a smell. It comes with being a resell shop. If you are able to put these things aside, CM is a gem. I have stocked my wardrobe with brands such as Loft, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein, Altar'd State, Lucky, Lily Pulitzer, Fossil, Gap, and more. All relatively pricey brands--not one thing cost me over $20 (that I can think of). Occasionally, a trip made here is fruitless. Sometimes I don't find anything, and that can be frustrating after spending a while combing the racks. But for all the times I have found some serious steals, that's OK with me. They have designer purses and shoes too. They offer a rewards program: after $250 you get 20% off an entire purchase. They often have sales, as well. The staff here greets me when I walk in, usually. They don't have a long wait to check out. They'll happily explain their sales and return policy. If you are a thrifty shopper, a young adult, or someone on a budget, come to Clothes Mentor. It's really a wonderful place. I hope they stick around for a long time. (Note: I have never tried to sell anything here. I have seen people argue and act very rude and pissed off to employees when they're buy is ready and the store chose not to accept certain items. Come on, people. I am a self-confessed shopping monster BUT I rarely buy anything full priced and am always on the lookout for quality things on sale. An officemate introduced me to Clothes Mentor a year ago and I will forever be thankful to her for that. Little did I know, this place was only 10 minutes away from my house and is right by the Kroger where I always go to get my groceries. Here you'll find a ton of second hand women's clothes, shoes, purses, and accessories. Think of it as a high class Goodwill store. They carry brands such as Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Coach, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, and many more! Items are reasonably priced and are still in very good condition. I prefer to do my bargain hunting here during fall/winter though. I was not impressed with the stuff that they had in the summer. It is advisable to like their page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Clothes-Mentor-Louisville-St-Matthews/238626922823434?fref=ts) so that you'll get informed of their sales-- yes they do have sales on top of their already cheap items. They also do a $20/bag deal twice a year. One after the cold months and one after the summer. I did it after winter last year and I was a dead happy camper! Only $20 for EVERYTHING you can fit in your Kroger bag. You have to be strategic and just grab everything you like, sit in one corner and start folding and rolling to make tons of items fit into your bag. We had to get in line 30 minutes before the store opened. As expected, it was like a jungle and it was such a struggle to move around the store, but it was definitely worth all the blood and sweat! It's a wonderful thing that I live close to the store and can just stop by anytime I feel like going. They have different clothes from time to time because as mentioned on the other review, they buy clothes too. I haven't tried that yet as I am obsessed with my things and can't let go of any of them but I've heard that they are really picky on the quality and the brands. read more

Oh, Clothes Mentor. I wanted to love this place. I really did. I love a good bargain, but I refuse to pay $20 for an item in worse condition than I would find at the Goodwill. Overall I feel that many items are overpriced and the brands are mostly target and Walmart-- NOT what the website advertises. There's a diamond in the rough here and there, but most items are a hard pass. The employees, for the most part, are overly snobby, with the exception of an older lady who is very sweet. I have sold items before and I understand how their system works and that not everything will work for what they say that they buy. I don't get defensive and I would never treat an employee rudely; however, they love to talk down to customers and pretend that they are fancypants people. I would avoid. read more

No. Just No. You can really tell a lot by a store when they are so paranoid that they lock the bathroom so that NO ONE can use it except for employees. What's up with that? Seriously? Not everyone who walks into your store is going to steal things! The only reason why I came in here was to find pants. All I wanted was pants. PANTS! I ended up finding rags that looked like they needed to be cleaned. I felt sad and thus returned home with no pants. Oh and I wanted to try some "pants" on but... they weren't letting anyone into the fitting rooms. The bad: DOESN'T carry maternity clothes. The salesperson stated that the local Once Upon a Child does, so they no longer do. I have been to multiple locations of both stores in 3 different states and have never found this to be the case. Not sure why the Louisville management seems to think this is a good idea. i know a number of women who have purchased maternity clothes at other CM stores. Clothes mentor advertises on their company website that they carry maternity clothes while Once Upon a Child does not. Every other clothes mentor I have been in carries maternity clothes. The good: Big store. Lots of inventory, although it isn't immediately obvious what sizes you are looking at when you browse. Good location. Plenty of parking. read more

Complete waste of time. I waited an hour for a lady to look through my items I brought to sell (they quoted me at 25 mins btw). ALL of the items were brands they listed on their website and yet they bought 5 items from the 30 or so I brought in. She told me the reason they were passing on the rest was the condition they were in, which is completely ridiculous. There were items that she passed on that had never even been worn. I went through the basket when I got back home and I'm just completely shocked looking at these clothes are are all in style and in perfect condition that they deemed not good enough for their store. There were one or two items in the basket that might be past their prime, but 95% of what they rejected looks great. I'll NEVER go back! read more

I've been to this store many times. I rarely find anything but once in a while I'll get lucky. I think it's overpriced for the quality of items they sell. I often find items when I'm shopping that are ripped or stained and it makes me wonder how much they pay attention to what they purchase. I had been following them in Instagram and they recently posted this cute xs Old Navy coat. They won't give prices though for some reason... Well, a few days later I went to go see it. It's badly pilling and has lots of loose strands of material. They wanted $20 for it which I would have gladly paid had it been it gently used condition. But it was very worn. Afterward I went to target and saw a light pink coat that was new for the same price. So why shop here??? I was really underwhelmed by this store. They have a ton of stuff but it is not in good condition or even close to designer/high end. As I browsed the racks I saw a lot of store brand clothing from Target, Walmart, Kohls, Cato, Dress Barn etc. Quite a few items that I picked up were stained or otherwise damaged. This store, as well as the one on Taylorville Road, smell awful. The odor hit me as soon as I walked in the door. It smells like dirty socks. Disgusting. The odor got worse as I browsed the racks. It is probably due to all of the shoes lining the tops of each rack. Another thing that struck me was the appearance of several garments I looked at. They were dirty and wrinkled. The grossest thing I encountered was when I reached into a pocket and there was a waded up tissue. The staff may want to consider checking pockets before they put garments on the sale floor. I brought in a brand new never been worn tags still on leather moto jacket from Calvin Klein and was told that Calvin Klein isn't a tip brand for them. The $139 tag on the coat should have given me more than the 7 dollars I received. Also... I brought in brand new clothes with the tags still on... expensive brands and total only received $23. If you go there to shop you will only get good prices at the sidewalk sales. However that is an event you just have to experience to really realize you won't go back. Unless your an adrenaline junky. Even then some things are still over priced. Considering they don't pay the selling customers even 10 percent of the original value of their clothing. Think twice about buying luxury items. As it's possible they authenticate based on when their shift ends the same way they go through your clothing. The employee handling your intake is not going to accept 15-20 items when they are getting ready to go on lunch or end their shift so they tell you they can take 2-3. It's that simple!! Best to call ahead, make appointment for large quantity Also what they need changes from week to week you have to call the store or try to find their list on social media websites. They are very tricky at folding your clothes very flat so that it doesent look like very many items. Ask them to hold up the partially hidden bin On the counter for you to go through so your clear on what items your selling! It's never been worth my time , effort or cars fuel cost to go there to buy or sell. It's an option to Put your stuff on the internet to sell or buy. Many sites are free to sell on. It's definitely larger than consignment boutiques, which means that there are a lot more options but you also have to dedicate a lot of time and patience to look through everything. It's a lot of work for a few great items, but you can't beat the prices. Some of the items seem a little pricey for their used conditions while others are complete steals. I never leave empty handed and am always thrilled about my purchases. I went yesterday and purchased 2 dresses and 2 sweaters for $40- that's a steal! read more

They also conveniently forgot to give me a bag full of my clothes back that they didn't buy. The next day I had to drive back to the shop to get them with no apologies from the staff.
