I…read morealways love walking into thrift stores and seeing what people have discarded, only to be rediscovered by someone else. As soon as you walk in you realize this isn't your average thrift store. The store is well laid out, organized and has that fantastic smell of used gear (but in a good way); it all brings back good memories of the past. They have a good assortment of records (yes vinyl is making a comeback). And they are dirt cheap; mostly costing less than a buck! I picked up two records and it cost me a toonie. How great is that!! The store shelves are organized in a great way, great friendly and inviting owners, wonderful jazz music was playing in the background, housewares, books, clothing, toys, electronics and even furniture were available to snap up. Be careful, walk into Junk in the Trunk and you'll be walking into a time-warp that you may not want to leave.

A number of items you see from popular brands like Knock Knock- sarcastic socks, notes with attitude, but also lots of stuff that looks locally inspired and / or local made. Home items, wedding, birthday, Calgary and Canada, jewelry, fun mugs. Books, the list goes on and on. Interesting people were out, cute dogs were being walked by their owners, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. Part of my stroll was down the "hip" Uptown area of 17th Avenue. What drew me into Steeling Home from my walk was an on sale desk fan that was displayed outside on a cute antique table. The price was right, but I knew darn well that it would be hard to get it in the suitcase for my eventual trip back to the San Francisco Bay Area. I might still change my mind on that.... Anyway, I decided to stroll around inside and really enjoyed exploring the many pockets of interesting stuff this relatively small store holds. It has books, antiques, jewelery, and much more in-between. The people watching was fun too, with a fresh touch of Portlandia thrown in. I'm glad I stopped in and reminded myself that marching around a new City is fun, and stopping to explore some of its quirks is even better.

Got a Marant top, and a brand I'd never heard of, but they had a huge selection of stuff and I wish I'd had a little more time. Things were neatly organized by color and then by style- for example tops started sleeveless, graduating to short sleeves, then long sleeves. But all sizes mixed in- but that's part of the digging fun. Staff was so lovely and helpful, quick to offer a dressing room start seconds after I started carrying something. Also exciting that they have color coded tags. I felt like Charlie looking for that golden Wonka ticket, and was thrilled that my most expensive item was 50% off. Total score. Left there buzzing from the variety of prints, brands, and fabrics. If I were a local, this place would be in regular rotation.

I really like shopping at Trends and Vespucci for gently used clothing so I was really happy to see…read morethat there was a store like these in my own neighbourhood. The place is in an apartment building which is strange but they seemed to have divided the area really well. Clothing is organised by color and size so it is really easy to browse clothing that you want or don't want. Today there was a discount on clothing depending on the color of the tag, so that in itself was fun. The clothing was surprisingly pretty fashion forward with a lot of designer names, some stuff was expensive and then some stuff was really affordable. The designs and taste of the store owner is great and I can tell she sifts through what comes in. There are many places to try on clothing and there is even a little place to sit and relax and view mags. The staff is extremely friendly and I will come back to this store when I have more time.
