This ice cream shop is dairy free and we ordered 5 flavors to try out. Nothing was amazing and two flavors were hard to finish. They also don't offer samples so it's hard to know what you will get from the unique combinations.

Cookies and cream and chocolate

I don't typically eat vegan ice cream because I don't like the texture, but I was pleasantly surprised with how creamy this was. I ordered the cookies and cream and some variant of chocolate and absolutely loved both flavors. I can definitely taste the coconut cream base but the flavors worked very well together. They don't have anywhere to sit and you order at a counter outside so be prepared to take this away to eat.

Ice cream was delicious! Love all the different varieties of flavors they offer. Service was friendly + quick & efficient. They offer some seating on the sidewalk or else it's a good thing to eat while you walk around.

Possibly the best ice cream ever.

All they sell is non-dairy completely vegan ice cream, which is 100% going to turn some people off, no question. Whatever. This may be the best ice cream I have ever had. Anywhere. It's absolutely delicious. And I am hardly a vegan. We tried four flavors. The Salty Bastard (pretzels, caramel, potato chips and more) was amazing. The Mud Pie was decadent. The "Budderfinger" had giant pieces of candy in it. The Chocolate Fudge Brownie was very chocolate-y and very brown-ie. You will not miss the absence of dairy one bit. This is superb ice cream or whatever wizardry this is.

Bumpy Pumpkin

I was pretty bummed that they don't let you taste-test any flavors...I got the banana one and it tasted like a Kind bar...the bumpy pumpkin was pretty good but very rich. I wouldn't have gotten those flavors if I had the chance to try them before purchasing them...The cashier lady was nice. There is no inside seating so we just sat at some of the tables outside front. Probably won't be coming back here.

Wonderful restaurant. I'm dairy free, and having it be an "anti-dairy establishment" is very comforting. My boyfriend is allergic to cashews, and everything labeled was wonderful. Worker was very kind, and was quick to make our milkshakes. I've been looking for vegan shakes for months since Sweet Hazel stopped making theirs, and these ones definitely don't disappoint! My evaluation of the ambience might be off, but since we came by on the day of the biggest No Kings Protest, it was definitely hard to access. Overall, quick, kind, and delicious. 10/10 recommend-- (everything is coconut based so if you're allergic, probably should avoid)

Service impeccable ice cream even better. As someone who can't have dairy in a family of ice cream lovers this is our go to place because my dairy lovers love this place too. It is so nice to have a place we can enjoy dessert together!

Regular sized with tea and biscuits and cherry chip (left) regular size with key lime and watermelon (right).

I was in town for a conference and staying at the hotel nearby. One of my colleagues suggested we check it out and I'm so glad we did. We ended up going back again before we left. Everything is dairy free but you'd honestly new know it, there were several gluten free and cashew free options. Everything I tried was delicious. The cashier was so sweet and made the best suggestions when I wasn't sure what to pick. I highly recommend it to everyone in the area and I may just have to fly back to SLC just to have more tea & biscuits. It was such a unique but super delicious flavor.

I discovered this anti-dairy ice cream establishment while out to dinner. Their name, Monkey wrench and sign for anti-dairy treats piqued my interest. I stopped on my way home for a pint to-go. I wasn't sure what to expect. Sometimes you just don't know with lavendar flavors or even non-dairy products. (So anyway, I got a lavendar pint, and it was really good!) It had a nice flavor, and their was a nice coconut flavor, I assume from coconut milk? It was tasty, and they had lots of other flavors I'd go back to try, like peanut butter brownie and birthday cake. The employees were pleasant as well.

This was recommended to me by a staff member at Franklin and I'm very glad he did! This is definitely some of the best ice cream I've ever tried and it's all vegan. As someone who can't have more than a few bites of ice cream because of the dairy, this place is too perfect! The staff was really nice and happy to answer all questions I had about the ice cream and the place itself. My guy and I split the Lemon Poppyseed Poundcake since it was the most unique flavor we saw and it was soo good, we wish we had gotten separate scoops. The flavor was very well-balanced and light. It was too perfect! I can only imagine how great the other flavors are. Highly recommend and will definitely stop by here again whenever I come back to the area.

Cookies and Cream
Renee I.

FYI: This is an ice cream stand, not an ice cream shop... an ALL VEGAN ice cream stand at that! I got the two scoops of Cookies and Cream because I my much of a fan of the other flavors. The Lemon Shortbread Poppyseed piqued my interest, but I thought it would be too sweet. I got a chance to try the Lemon and instantly regretted my decision. Don't get me wrong, the CC was delicious, but the Lemon spoke to me. It wasn't too sweet and the shortbread was the perfect combination.

Lavender vegan ice cream

Monkeywrench is a quaint little ice cream stand that I wanted to check out while in the city. My best friend and I walked here from the City Creek Center and it was a pleasant walk. It's a walk up stand so you order from the outside and they hand you the ice cream. I'm a big lavender lover so of course I had to go with that flavor. However, I'm not the biggest fan of coconut based vegan ice cream but this was delicious! The lavender, blueberry and coconut pairing was very complimentary and the texture was 10/10. I was hoping to try the tea and biscuits but this was a good second choice. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

Tea & cookies, lavender blueberry honeycomb, budderfinger.

Is there somewhere I can find what base they use? Like coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, etc? I'm looking for somewhere that has an almond milk base specifically?

Do you have any sugar free options?

No sugar free options.

Are there dairy-free and gluten-free options?

Everything is vegan and the gluten-free flavors are labeled.

Where can nutritional information be found? Specifically ingredients and sugar content?

Seriously? This is a mom-and-pop restaurant, not a chain. You're not going to find nutritional information at a small place like this.

Do you guys sell gift cards? Wanting to get one for my family members who are vegetarian

Yes they do! I'd call before to make sure they have them in stock still before Heading over but yes! #bestgiftever

What here would be gluten free?

I believe they only have two options that are GF. One is their Tostada but I don't remember the other. Sorry.

Their chickpea bao buns with chipotle aioli blew me away. It was the perfect level of spicy and very filling without making me feel heavy. It seemed actually nutritious, so no need for the guilt after (that I saved for the cinnamon roll dessert I picked up at the same time). The price was also very affordable. I love how much variety is available here and that it's all vegan. I always feel spoiled for choice, I never know what to get because it all looks so good. There's a decent amount of seating inside. The ladies at the shop are always very friendly. This is an amazing spot for a sweet treat or a quick meal. One of my top vegan spots in Salt Lake.

Their burritos and fries are my go-to favorites. The burritos are just top-notch, but I have a soft spot for their fries -- it's kind of an inside joke for me. Whenever I go out to eat with people, they always say, "Well, I know what El is having," because I always get fries with my food. But theirs are surprisingly amazing. Fries are usually just "fine" or "good," but theirs? They're very good. The owner is incredibly kind, and their baked goods are fantastic -- especially the peanut butter brownie, which I can't recommend enough. Their soft serve is also really good, and I'm excited to try some of their candy next time. I even took a non-vegan friend there, and he really enjoyed the food. Beyond the food, the team is so nice, and they have a little vegan market with some really cool products. I bought about half a pound of vegan bacon from them, and now I'm making all kinds of breakfast sandwiches at home. If you're in the area, whether you're vegan or not, Sweet Hazel is a must-visit. And if you can't stop by in person, their partner company Break Free Candy ships their sweets, which is awesome. Seriously, if you order anything from the menu, make it the peanut butter brownie. It's life-changing -- and I say that as a huge brownie lover.

There are so many great options on the menu, just like any diner you'll find in the world but you can eat with a conscience. This restaurant is truly terrific! A Place That Fails on Every Level, Safety, Integrity, and Basic Care…read more I've eaten here multiple times and every visit left me, my friends and family feeling physically ill. Why? Because they use cheap low quality canola oil and it shows both on the palate and in the body. But the deeper issue isn't just what's in the food. It's what's rotting beneath the surface. A close friend of mine Brittney (17 and under age in this experience) reached out to the owner to explore a collaborative business opportunity. Instead of professionalism she was met with a shocking invitation to hot tub together. Completely inappropriate and wildly unprofessional. Even more disturbing are the longstanding sexual allegations against kitchen staff he's kept on for years. Employees are routinely fired often for things they didn't do while the owner claims surveillance cameras prove it. Yet those cameras never seem to catch actual wrongdoing. Convenient isn't it. Meanwhile he creates a culture of fear instability and dismissal. People are disposable. Boundaries are not respected whether in the kitchen or in conversation. This isn't just a bad dining experience. This is a pattern of neglect abuse of power and willful ignorance. I urge you support businesses that respect people, employees, customers and community. This is not one of them.

When I arrived, it seemed like the kitchen was understaffed. The person at the front was doing his best to take orders and cook at the same time, which I respect, but it did mean a long wait for food. Another table that ordered after me was served first, and when my food finally arrived, the biscuits were unfortunately very undercooked--pretty raw in the middle. I was starving, so I ate them anyway rather than wait even longer, but it was disappointing. The vegan cookie I got wasn't very good either--kind of dry and bland--but again, I ate it because I was really hungry. The biggest issue, though, was the group of five people loudly rehearsing a play at full volume right in the middle of the restaurant. I totally respect the arts and love that people are creating things--but the entire time, they were projecting their lines as loudly as possible. It was impossible to read or relax. I was quietly working on finalizing the publication of my novella, and even though I was doing something creative too, I managed to do it respectfully and silently from my seat. I really think a different venue--or at the very least, a lower volume--would have made a big difference for everyone else there. That said, I'd still be willing to give this place another shot. The food has a lot of potential, and I think with a little more structure and a quieter atmosphere, it could be a great spot.

Absolutely delicious!…read more I got a BOGO free burrito coupon from their FB feed, so why not? So glad I did! I had the spicy green chili burrito--delicious! Smothered inside and out with their very fine green chili. The tortillas seem homemade, it was fresh and good. My wife had the carne asada burrito. I got a bite of it and the beef is delicious! Such good flavors. I also had the pinto beans and rice, both are very good. The horchata, made with almond milk, was creamy and just the right amount of cinnamon and sweet. They serve flour and corn tortilla chips with three salsas. The chips were excellent. The flour chips are deep fried, really good. The red salsa was the hottest but not bad for heat. The green was good. Now the crema sauce was my favorite, it is really excellent. Nice restaurant, comfortable chairs, nice decor that goes along with their theme. Looks like a comfortable bar. Service was friendly and accommodating. I would like to eat here again and take advantage of the FB coupon for their tacos. Highly recommended! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good.
