I also was originally believer. It's an awesome space and there is a good beer menu. I have been a number of time for a quiet drink on a week night and weekend day and it was fantastic. However, if you are looking for a drink on a weekend night... look elsewhere. The owner (the big guy with dark hair - I think there are two) is extremely antagonistic. I've seen him engage very aggressively multiple times with people who are drunk (not me... yet... though if I were to continue going it would likely only be a matter of time). I am not suggesting that the people he was aggressive towards weren't drunk, or didn't deserve to have someone say something to them, but this guy is so disrespectful... and he owns a bar... it seems like he should be better at that. It is hard to know when he is going to turn on you. It's a bummer, but with Richards and Emmitt's across the street there are plenty of other options in the area where there is NOT a danger of the people behind the bar ruining the mood on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

Clover is one of the most fun and lively bars I've been to in Chicago. It attracts a pub crowd that is generally made up of staff and patrons that want to drink and mingle, with a strong distaste for solitudinous sobriety. Great place to start or top off a night with friends. But if you go, promise me you'll keep it light and friendly! Btw- Jessica, Jamie, Hana and Luis fucking rock. I took a date to this bar so we could see the blackhawks game. The atmosphere is nice however they refused to play the blackhawks game since a group of customers previously requested to watch a college basketball game. That's fine, but judging how they had more than four TVs. I am not quite sure why they couldn't put the game on one of their TVs. The crowd was obnoxious and loud. I get it's a bar, but when you have people falling out of their seats and hitting on your date that's a bit extreme. I find it naive to even call this place a Blackhawks bar when they don't even play the game for you live. read more

I love walking into Clover after a long day at work. The staff is friendly and very pleasing to talk to and the great beer selection doesn't hurt. Good place to watch sports as they have plenty of TVs! They always have the sound on for Blackhawks games but never too loud so that you can't hear your friend sitting next to you. Great little local bar that's kind of a mismatch next to Funky Budda Lounge. The drinks are great and the bartenders are really friendly. It's a good place for a group during the weekend or a quite night during the week. It's never really packed, but usually decently crowded on Friday and Saturday night. There are a good amount of TVs too with Chicago teams. I think it's also a Iowa Hawkeyes bar. read more

I moved across the street a few months ago and this has become my favorite spot to either start or finish the night. The prices are good, there is a neighborhood feel, the staff is extremely friendly and Sasha, my precious pup, is always welcome as are other well behaved and reasonable four legged companions. Nice place in what used to be the Budda Lounge. We come here on Tuesdays for a pool league but I'd definitely come check it out on any other day as well. Place has two bars, a pool table and darts. Jukebox and a popcorn machine. Drink list is ok and price fine for the area. The two bartenders I had a pleasure of meeting were very nice and accommodating, even if I had an occasional club soda instead of booze. They do not have a kitchen, but some really good eats within walking distance that you can order in or bring in. read more

My boyfriend and I were super excited to try out this little gem in my neighborhood, especially b/c they have shuffleboard and we have a long running competition going! You can bring in your own food which is great, and the bartender gave us utensils/plates which was super nice. Unfortunately, the shuffleboard table is unusable - it has a defined curve that makes it impossible to play on. I hope they can fix it as I'd love to come back (and tell other friends to check it out as well). read more

This is my favorite beer and a shot bar in the city. I was sold by a couple different things. Now don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the dicey beer and a shot places, but this place is on a different scale. It is always very clean and the bathrooms are comfortable and spotless. I became an instant fan of Clover after one visit. It took me longer than it should have to stop in, partly because their storefront is a bit unassuming relative to the Funky Buddha next door and also because I prefer American / Belgian craft beer. First, the beer selection. Their taps include too many mass-produced beers for my liking, though they do have a respectable bottled craft selection (e.g., Three Floyds, Brooklyn, Delirium Tremens). While I wouldn't grade them 5 stars on their beer selection alone, the service and charm at Clover is unbelievable. Our first visit felt like walking into Cheers. The manager greeted us, the bartender introduced himself, the wait / bus staff were friendly and attentive, and everyone said goodbye and thanked us for coming when we left. It seemed that all of the staff were on the same page about creating as warm and welcoming of an atmosphere in a neighborhood pub as you could ask for. Another point: I like to support local businesses, and value businesses that do the same. As best I know, Clover doesn't have a kitchen, though they've partnered with neighboring stores La Scarola and Toni's pizza to offer great food at reasonable prices. I've tried a lot of food from Toni's and La Scarola, and they're consistently excellent, but the dishes not to be missed are: bruschetta, pasta & fagiole (best I've ever had), chicken vesuvio, and Toni's spinach pizza. read more

I had my Bridal shower there last Saturday and had an absolute blast! The vibe of the bar was exactly what we wanted. The management and staff were super accommodating, they even let us turn down the music so we could get on the mic to make a few toasts - super nice of them. I'm a bartender in the city and sometimes can't believe the reviews of some people. I was here the night that drunk, obnoxious person was escorted out of the bar by the owner. He handled it perfectly. Sometimes people forget that when a patron is acting like a fool, the staff needs to worry about the rest of the patrons in the bars safety. This 'person' was asked multiple times to calm down and then tried frcing his way back into the bar. I am appalled that this 'Review' was even posted on Yelp. This is a great neighborhood bar and encourage more people to go and spend time here. read more
