I've been wanting to try this joint for SO long. WORTH the wait!! The entire idea behind The Vig and the concept behind the name Chadrick the experience all that much more. I'm not a salad guy, but the Homer Greek was fantastic! The Moroccan Turkey burger had multiple flavor profiles - A MUST! Vig is always a treat. They are consistent with their quality across different locations. The first VIG that I ever visited was in Phoenix. Felt nostalgic to come to this location in Old Town Chicago. I have been here for brunch and happy hour. Food quality was good. Drink prices and service was on par. We were lucky that they still had the Frose on tap. That drink is delicious. We also like the quality of the Cheeseburger and Fries. The aioli that comes with the French fries is so satisfying to dip your potatoes in. Don't sleep on their late Happy Hour as they don't end until 7pm. read more

This was my first time at The Vig after living in the neighborhood for many years and I enjoyed it! We came with a large group (11 people) and our server (Serena I believe?) was absolutely fantastic. She gave great recommendations and was very attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the chimichurri steak cooked medium rare and really enjoyed it. The steak was well cooked and the chimichurri was fresh and not overpowering. The potatoes that came on the side were surprisingly very good as well. My cousin ordered the steak and fries which she enjoyed but her medium rare steak definitely bordered on the rarer side. I have a gluten allergy and the menu was well marked and easy to understand. There is not a gluten free bun offered but you can get some of the sandwich options without bread. The table ordered the parmesan fries and meatball as appetizers, both of which were enjoyed by all. I liked that the fries came with both a chipotle mayo and garlic aioli. I decided not to drink this evening but the cocktail list looked appealing and the sip of sangria I had was very good! My only other complaint is that the restaurant can get very noisy which wouldn't be an issue at all with smaller parties but with a group of our size it did sometimes feel like we had to shout to hear each other. Glad to have finally tried this place and will considering coming back in the future for a happy hour! read more

I was especially excited to see they had some drinks made with vodka from the Denver distillery I used to work at (the server even went back and checked for me!) Here's what we ordered: - Lobster Deviled Eggs - Espresso Martini - Chandon Rose - Frose (vodka drink with a pretty hibiscus flower) The eggs were super flavor packed, although its funny there were only 3 (where did the last half of the second egg go..) The Frose was refreshing, sweet, and spirit-forward. The espresso martini was as straightforward as it gets and delicious. All good notes from mom on the rose (: Service was friendly and personable. My group of friends and I had such an amazing brunch experience here. During our trip to Chicago, we had to try this restaurant known for their tasty brunch food. Parking was a little difficult since it's mainly street parking but thankfully our party of 5 was seated a few minutes after we arrived. After looking over the menu, I went with an order of the Brisket Hash. While waiting for the food to arrive, the table agreed on a mimosa tower. Its arrival to the table was spectacular! They had sparklers and high energy when distributing the drinks. I appreciate that it's a single tower, enabling each person to pour as much as they desire. The food arrived and everything we ordered looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. All the flavors of my dish meshed so well together and everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their food. We drop in at night when it's more drinking than dining. It's usually packed with standing room only. It's a younger crowd, 30's mostly. The music is loud and it's hard to carry a conversation. The drinks are super standard, as they use the shot pourer and stick to the measurement. I've never been a fan of bartenders that can't free pour a good drink. We tried the appetizer and they're standard restaurant food. Not bad. It's great place to people watch. read more

Let me start off by saying - The Vig Restaurant here in Old Town Chicago is huge! Now that I got that out of the way, out of the over 250 people present here tonight at this teeming restaurant, I would venture a guess that I have a pair of 501 Levi jeans older than everyone in this establishment - and I'm not slightly kidding! This was a very young crowd! So, that being said, I loved The Vig! Everything about this place just worked: The Staff was wonderful and accommodating. The food was flat out excellent The price points here are beyond reasonable. The atmosphere / ambiance was, well, young (again). I ordered (of course) their Vig Cheeseburger with bacon. It was delicious, bountiful and easy to handle. I will absolutely come back here for this terrific sandwich. My Miller High Life beer was a perfect blend with my dinner. I made reservations in hopes of a great place to take an out of town guest from Italy. He mentioned wanting to go to a Gastropub and so I thought this would be a nice option and within walking distance from our own hotel. There was a cool little history or explanation of the restaurant hanging above the hostess station where we were waiting and it was a nice little read tied to the Capone inspiration and our Italian connection guest. The place was relatively busy as expected for a Saturday night out. We saw some interesting characters as it was the weekend before Halloween. It was generally loud, but we were still able to have conversation. I had to get things started with a welcoming of coming into Chicago with Malort shots. I had a Thai tuna dish that was excellent and we shared a carrot cake that was pretty decent. My husband and I also shared the bacon brussels sprouts and I'm pretty sure he ate more than me which is saying something for someone who doesn't eat vegetables. My husband and our guest both had the steak and fries that both seemed to enjoy. They had plenty other good sounding menu options that I would like to come back and try. We came here for their happy hour and tried their tuna poke tacos, the lobster deviled eggs, and the burger which I forgot to take a picture of. The tacos were a bit small for the $10 price and didn't have as much poke as I would've liked. The lobster deviled eggs were yummy but the lobster pieces were pretty small and you only get 3 half eggs for $10 (we paid an extra $3 for the 4th egg). The burger was pretty good and was cooked well but for the $16 price tag that should be expected. Overall, I enjoyed this place but wouldn't come here besides for happy hour as I think the prices are a bit steep for the portion sizes you're getting. read more

Really cool place in Old Town with a great Happy Hour. They have at least two full entree items for Happy Hour (one is a burger and the other is a fried chicken breast sandwich). The ambiance is lively, especially during Happy Hour (goes till 7 pm most days). Drinks and dishes are reasonably priced and keeps you full. The staff is friendly. The burger was juicy and came with fries that were seasoned nicely. The fries also came with an aioli sauce. The fried chicken breast sandwich was large, juicy, also seasoned nicely. I've been to Chicago no less than 12 times, but not sure why I just discovered this nice neighborhood called Old Town. It is such a nice place and it seems the Vic is a popular stop in a well maintained neighborhood. We just watched a show at the Second City and wanted to grab something to eat. The Vic is less than 5 minutes walk and got decent reviews so we popped in. It didn't disappoint! It is well past dinner time and this place is still lit on a Sunday night! It is fairly big and can accommodate party big and small. The decoration and menu have unique characters. The service is prompt and friendly and the food is as expected. We left with satisfaction! I love the ambience here! It's like a speakeasy, but not really! The dim lights, simple menu, and good variety of drinks makes this is a great spot for dinner or a date night! Our waiter was great and told us the special for the day. I had the corn fritters and the lobster roll. For the drink, I got the Real Nice Time. The Real Nice Time was smooth, witty, and not too sweet! A great, refreshing drink to ease into and sip. The corn fritters were delicious, but they could use some kick to it! The sauce it came with was rich, creamy, and complemented the fritters well! The lobster roll was okay. Nothing extra ordinary but the Texas Toast roll it came in was buttery, had a great crust, and was the highlight of the roll (wish it was the lobster). I came here for a brunch date one Sunday after church, and it's such a cool spot in Old Town! I ordered a frosé along with avocado toast, which looked delicious. I also asked for a side of grilled salmon for some extra protein, and I was happy they accommodated my request so quickly, especially considering how busy it was. They had TVs playing the latest sports, and you could dine either inside or outside. The windows were open to the patio, so there was a nice breeze. The table next to us did have an issue when a bee got into their drink, but the staff handled it quickly, resolving the issue and even moving their table. I've lived a 15 minute walk from the Vig for a year now & I don't know how it took me so long to come eat here! It was really good - I was very impressed with all the food we got!!!! I started with an espresso martini which was pretty average - not bad, but not amazing either. Then we split the fries, tuna tacos, old town brussels salad, and the kale and artichoke & spicy feta spreads. The fries were my favorite & definitely some of the best I've ever had. They came with garlic aioli and a chipotle mayo. By the end we were scraping the last bits of sauces up because they were so good. We were very impressed with our salad too -- the dressing was light & mildly sweet. Tuna tacos were yummy too, but on the spicier side which I liked. I could have gone without the spreads, they weren't anything to write home about. Sadly, none of my friends would split the lobster deviled eggs with me, so I'm looking forward to going back soon to try those!!!! read more

I have been to the Vig many many times but only for the first time got dinner recently. We went during happy hour on a Friday. I love that Friday happy hour runs from 3 to 7. We got there around 4:30 and it was somewhat empty but was full by the time we left around 7. I will say this place has confusing vibes between the vibe/cost of the menu and the ambiance. Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. It was definitely better than what I was expecting. I got the happy hour fried chicken sandwich (which is still $15 bleh), but I was surprised by how good it was! 8 also had an espresso martini and a mule.
