Clover is a sports bar but it's not one of those bro places, as it seems most people are too calm and collected. Good place for watching a game. There's a TV on almost each wall it seems. A few times being here and it seems like a laid back bar. It was the weekend the last time here and it wasn't even that crowded. This isn't like the crap sports bars you get in Wrigleyville. Actually has pretty good prices. They have a few specials. Most notably is the main one. The All Day Every Day Special is $9 for a PBR and a Tullamore Dew shot. Has pretty good prices on most beers. Went in with a group of friends for St Pattys day. Was very busy. Following my wife through the crowd and a worker and me ran into one another. We bumped into each other a little hard. He said "dude what are you doing in work here" I said "I'm just following my wife I don't care" he walks off gets security and had me kicked out. Mind you I walked in the door 20sec before this. This place is fine for a sport bars, it's spacious, they have darts in the second room and plenty of TVs. The problem I have with it is they're misleading. They claim they're an, "Iowa First" bar but the last two visits have been further from that. The last two visits I've asked for them to turn on the Iowa Women's basketball game on. And this past weekend they told me they wouldn't have the sound on, they had it on for the non Iowa football game. Was in town visiting for some appointments and catching up with friends, after being away from consistent access to Chicago, moved away last March. This is a neighborhood bar, but don't feel like you can't come here. The people here are welcoming, and the staff treats you like you're a friend. In many cases, you are! Was here on Thursday night for their 9th anniversary. Considering the capacity rules, they practiced COVID protocols and I felt very safe being here. You will not want for anything while you're here. Service? check. Drinks? check. Food? (didn't eat since I was coming from dinner). The goal was to say hello and have a couple drinks because I had major dental surgery the next morning at 8 AM. Really fun bar with lots of activities, which is what the fiancé is always looking for. We stumbled in after dinner at The Dawson and were pleasantly surprised. The back room (which I think can be rented out at times for private events) was open and had free shuffle board and $1 pool! Stopped in here briefly after Emmit's and Richard's ... it seemed like a pretty chill crowd, good music, nice atmosphere, clean, reasonable prices, bartenders seemed decent probably about the same quality as Emmit's. It seemed like a legit little neighborhood bar with games and people relaxing having a few drinks, watching TV, looks like they have a nice patio area. I didn't spend enough time in here because they closed nearly right after I arrived, so it was hard for me to really get a great feel for the place, so for now I can only give it a solid 3 star "okay" review... next time I am back in Chicago I will be sure to stop back in and update :) But, it was cool enough for me to want to come back and give it another chance... so I would recommend that others do the same! read more

La Scarola's one of my favorite restaurants and since I'm not extremely fond of the second hand smoke one's subjected to at Richards, Clover is usually where I go to drink my dessert. It's a chill spot spot that you just can't help but like. Nothing outrageously noteworthy about it, but the staff is always friendly, the prices are fair and they've got a MyTouchTunes jukebox. What a sad excuse for a bar. My party of 6 sat at a table for 10 minutes before we were given menus. Another 10 minutes pass and our sad excuse for a bartender finally comes back to take our order. What was she doing in the mean time? Talking to other customers. Probably because we look like "hoodlums" in our hoodies. Who knows. 10 more minutes pass and she isn't even pouring our beers. To top it off, she comes back and forgets my drink order. What a terrible excuse for a bar and bartender. We asked about their nacho bar and they said they had to "restart" it. Great place to have a few beers, hang out with your peeps and watch sports. It's not an enormous bar but there is a television on every inch of every wall in the place. The service is friendly and prompt and even when crowded I never had a hard time getting a fresh beverage. Important note regarding the food situation: Don't go here looking for dinner and drinks, but if you need to eat there are two VERY different options. Option 1 is ordering one of their frozen pizzas (i.e. Tombstone). Option 2 is ordering delivery from the restaurant across the street, which happens to be some of the best Italian food in the city. We came here Thanksgiving night. We were orginally set for Richard's Bar, across the street, but I walked in, took one breath, and walked out, after taking a few puffs of my inhaler. It's a total smoke fest in there. Anyways, I asked someone outside, "where can I get a beer without having to burn my clothes in the morning?" Yo. I walked across to Clover and went inside. It was warm, not too crowded, and someone had a dog there. The beer menu was decent, with some solid IPAs and craft beers, and the bartender was responsive. If you like Jenga, they have a few gigantic versions set up for your amusement. Apparently, this is an Iowa bar. I'm not sure if it's Iowa State or Iowa Univerity nor if there is more than one. Overall, not a bad place. I had a few decent, tandom conversations. The dude with the dog was letting him walk around aimlessly and then would get ticked if someone pet him. Beers are $6-8. I love Clover. I moved nearby around June, and this place has become my go to place to grab a quick beer or get a night started with Friends. They have specials all the time (get a PB&J!) and a pretty diverse selection of beers, usually with plenty of chicago local brews. Come Friday/Saturday nights, it is usually pretty full, but very laid back. Giant Jenga is hilarious to play with a group of friends, as each block has a dare for you to do. There is also free darts and all you can eat popcorn. They also have lots of TVs, and is an ideal place to catch a Bulls/Bears/Blackhawks game. A nice little dive bar in the River West neighborhood, which neighbors other nice dive bars such as Richard's and Emmit's. This is a bustling intersection at night, I've witnessed, but during the day it can be as peaceful as your everyday coffee shop. Great craft drinks on tap here for a reasonable price, and many TVs and photos framed upon the walls here, giving the bar a more homey vibe. Popcorn can be popped here, but no kitchen is to be found in the back. Also a pool table exists here, which is always a plus in my book. In the warmer days, there's a garage door placed near the entrance that can be opened to let out a little more sun for the regular vamps (who may need a lil sunshine in their lives...not judging). read more

The owners were having a semi private party and they welcomed our group of 4 like we were regulars. Yes they have an Emmit's menu, the staff will take your order, and voila...it's delivered to your table at Clover - and added to your bill. Or I think you can bring your own food or order delivery. We came here on Sunday to watch football. The bartender-waitress was was very nice and accommodating at first. We had a table and she came to the table taking our orders and delivering them but as the hours went by we had to keep going to the bar to get anything. This is a pub but it's not all ratty and run-down like most I've seen. They have nice TV"s and furnishings (including the bar) that doesn't look deteriorated. Clover is almost like the modern day "Cheers" bar, where everyone knows your name and treats you like family. The bartenders are always friendly. It's a really fun spot with giant Jenga, darts, a side room with pool tables and numerous tv's to keep you entertained. And you're allowed to bring outside food, so that's a plus too. Drinks are cheap and you always make friends coming here. I don't know why, this is just that type of place! i have been here several times. the first few times I enjoyed the experience, mainly because it wasn't crowded or too loud, and the drinks were good. however, the music was basically the owner playing his personal music off of his laptop behind the bar. the sound was awful, the taste in music was a mix of billy joel and bob seger, and forget about him taking any type of request. and since the bar was empty, it should really have been a no-brainer to be a little accommodating. and therein lies the problem. Rob, who introduced himself as the owner, swings from friendly to aggressive in a heartbeat. it took a couple of visits to recognize this. Rob seems to have opened a bar so that he has a place to hangout with his buds. from what I could tell, we may have been the only paying customers in the place. and when his friends lit up their cigarettes it was the final straw. apparently the fact that I complained about the second-hand smoke, not to mention a law against smoking, meant that I was the problem and had overstayed my welcome. which I guess explains why the place isn't crowded when the other bars on this corner are hopping. if you go, I would definitely not challenge Rob in any way or you may be given the same treatment as I was. Started out as a real believer. Great place for Sunday football, tons of TV's, very accomodating. and was there 5 out of the past 6 sundays. Got to know the whole crew, great folks. Until last weekend. Once the Bears game was done and all the late games started, the sound was turned off and an awful mix of country and Madonna music was started, and loud! Several requests to get any of the game sounds (which happened with no issues in the past 5 times I was there), were completely refuted by the owner. Despite a couple dozen people there, staring at the TV's trying to watch the games, the owner insisted that folks want to listen to music and don't care about the games. Note that the music was so damn loud you couldn't even have a conversation. My group then promptly asked for the bill and we walked out. I hope the owner reads this and realizes how absurd his argument was and how easy it is to lose good customers. You go to the trouble of putting a dozen TV's in the place, play all the games and advertize it, and then put on Madonna? Then you argue it's what people want? Seriously? read more
