He looked at me with shock when I told him when I needed the dress. He said prom dresses need a least a couple of weeks to be done and he had so many to do. I apologized for my ignorance and told its ok if he's wasn't able to take on the work but he told me it was ok and that he just wouldn't take on any other work. I couldn't believe how accommodating he was being. I was so appreciative that I didn't even ask how much it would cost. He even gave me a date 2 days before prom to pick it up. I have to admit that when I left I began to worry about the cost of this rush job but when I returned not only had he done an amazing job with the dress he only charged me $40 for the work!! I immediately called my usual alterations shop, but they were fully booked and couldn't fit me in. After reading the excellent reviews for Pearl Alterations, I decided to call. The owner encouraged me to come in straight away, explaining that once he saw the dress he could give me a quote and let me know if it could be completed before my flight. From the moment I met him, he was warm and welcoming. He immediately put me at ease during what was quite a stressful situation, and I felt confident that my dress was in experienced hands. When I tried the dress on, I honestly wasn't optimistic. It fit terribly around the bust and I couldn't imagine how it could ever look flattering. Within minutes, using just a few pins, he completely transformed the fit. I could suddenly see the beautiful dress I'd hoped I'd bought! The workmanship was exceptional. Satin is notoriously difficult to alter, but every change was beautifully executed and completely invisible. The dress now fits as though it was custom made for me. What impressed me even more was his professionalism and attention to detail. He had the dress finished two days before my flight, giving us time for any final adjustments if needed. Thankfully, none were necessary because the fit was absolutely perfect. During our conversation, I learned he has over 40 years of tailoring experience, and it certainly shows. I believe it was the owner, but he was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The price was also very reasonable! $60 for hemming a multi layered gown and taking in the shoulders (and he even pressed it for me as a complimentary service). Compare this to the $50 at Stitch It in the mall that I paid about 7 years ago, to hem a cheap polyester dress! This shop will now be my go-to in the area for alterations and dry cleaning.

He is the best there is…read more When I first moved to Toronto, I took many chances on several different places for alterations--everything from jeans to dresses and a couple of things in between and I have to say that Stitch Master is where it's at. Prices are amazing for what you get: turn-around time is excellent (sometimes he gets the job done before the appointed pick-up day, and this, during his busy season!), and the quality is top-notch and professional. I've gone to places downtown but found them way overpriced, quality very meh and their hours weren't all that convenient--for the same job that Howard can do in less time with fewer hassles AND lower prices. He is located along Dufferin (near Yorkdale Mall) in a plaza with Seoul House Restaurant, Fabricland, Marche Istanbul (stop in for baklava if you're there, they get their delivery on Thursdays and they're right next door), a florist, and a couple of other businesses you may find useful. I can't recall if he does custom clothing but I know that he was a tailor back in his native Hong Kong. He's super-sweet too; I've had some 911 situations and he's always come through. I feel bad that sometimes I'm so forgetful and run to him last-minute but he's really good like that. Don't be pushy with him though, if he says no, just let it go, especially in the summer or near the holidays as those are his busiest times. It's only him and another woman that do all the work. He's done some pretty amazing things with clothes I bought because I loved them but they were either to big for me or not snug in the right places (dresses, skirts, even tops!), and he made them fit PERFECTLY. He's also worked on some of my leather jackets as I can never find the perfect one--I've had him remove little details that I want to have disappear--and not a single stitch out of place or hole left in the leather. My jackets come out looking like they were made that way! He can do some crazy things with jeans too--a friend of mine who referred me to him in the first place goes there so he can work his magic on every single pair of hers and just when I thought she couldn't have a nicer ass, hers looks like God made it himself in her modified jeans!! I've been to places that have messed a few things up but this never happens with Howard. If I have items that I want but something isn't right, I don't risk taking it to some place based on price or convenience as I'm terrified of what I'll get back but I never have to deal with that kind of stress with Howard. If he can't do the job, he will tell you on the spot and that's only happened once. If ever you're out shopping and unsure of an item due to fit, buy it (check the store's return policy first!) and bring it in and if Howard can't do it, you can always return the item. Very low risk but worth the trouble. You'll see! (I can't recall if he's cash only but bring some anyhow!)

I have now had two garments taken care d here, and have nothing but good things to say…read more I had a pair of jeans hemmed while I waited last summer, which I don't think is normally possible, but Nasir seemed to sense my desperation! A simple task, but done neatly nonetheless. I am a frequent vintage shopper and love 50s era shirtdresses for work. I'd found a lovely Neiman Marcus at goodwill that was soft as butter but the proportions were off in a way that I wasn't really able to quantify and I wasn't wearing it. I took it in and he fit me on the spot. I largely let him use his discretion to modernize the fit (as he also makes made to measure items and I was confident in his eye.) $50 and 10 days later I picked it up. The hem had was raised about 18" and thoughtfully recut to be slightly lower in the sides. A personal choice that he immediately explained and offered to switch to something more conventional but it was a lovely tweak. It was taken in perfectly through the torso, and the sleeves had been dismantled and rebuilt in a more flattering fashion. Wonderful. Love this guy.
