My sister-in-law (SIL) invited me to attend the Earth, Wind and Fire concert at the Blaisdell…read morearena. She was meeting up with her girlfriend and five others for drinks and pupus at The Social, on the second floor of the Ward Village Northeast parking garage. She found a parking space on the second floor (how lucky is that?) and we went to Nordstrom Rack and TJ MAXX as we were early. This was my first visit to The Social. You enter via a single door and walk left down a hall past two sliding entry doors (on your left) that aren't used (strange), and find yourself in a long, relatively narrow space with three rows of tables ending at the kitchen. There must be more to the place than I saw because I didn't see the bar nor a large room that I saw in pics on Yelp. My SIL and I ordered Monkey 47 gin & tonics ($10ea) while her friends ordered a house red ($8), a JPOP Chu-Hi ($8) and food. We ended up with Garlic Chicken ($21.95, more like popcorn chicken), Truffle Parmesan Fries (16.95), and Shrimp Spring Rolls ($18.95). The latter looked like crispy cones and was served with a sweet, chili sauce. The (relatively small order of) Fries came with small containers of Ketchup and Aioli; the Chicken came in a bowl. The others at our table ordered tofu salad and sliced steak, which they shared with us. The food was tasty and well presented. My sole quibble was with the fries ... It was way too small an order for the price charged. I liked the place but the hard surfaces (floor, walls, and ceiling) made it pretty noisy. The highlight for me ... $10 for a Monkey 47 gin & tonic ... A steal!

It's such a convenient place because you don't have to worry about parking. In addition to that, the place is pretty clean and spacious. It's a good place for a small gathering. I will have to say that it's kind of in the pricer side; but the portion and the amount of food is pretty good. With this economy and located in the Ward area, it's understandable. Truffle Bacon Penne Pasta 4.5/5: Surprisingly, the overall dish was not salty. It's actually pretty good for such price. The pasta is cook enough that's not overcooked or under cooked. It already comes with bacon, but I added grilled chicken for extra protein. The chicken is not salty, and it's tender and flavorful. Garlic shrimp 4.5/5: It's a food truck style garlic shrimp with rice. I will definitely get it again because it's sooo good! However, I do have to say that the shrimp was actually pretty salty. Buttt, it's sooo flavorful. You can tell they are not petty in garlic and butter because they put a lot of garlic and butter that each piece of the shrimp is coated evenly that absorbs the garlicky flavor. The shrimp is fresh and not overcooked. If you like rice, the rice will taste like heaven. The rice soaked all the garlic butter sauce, and mix it/eat with the garlic and the shrimp, it's just the right tastes.

I sincerely thought it wouldn't be enough food to fill me up. I was wrong. My husband and I are usually big eaters and we were both full. He ordered a bucket of beers - 5 for $25 which was a nice deal. The Nonna's Special Drink - "Lost In Rome" was both pretty and delicious! The service was excellent! It's a family owned business and family operated. They are very friendly, down to earth, and it's easy to kind of feel like family, even as a customer because of how easily they chat and talk to you as if you've known them a long time. Upon first walking in to the main entrance, it felt a little strange since this used to be a Foodland. But when we were sitting at the bar talking story, we kind of forgot that we were sitting in one small eatery that is a part of a larger food court type environment. It was a Friday night, which apparently is salsa night. There was an open area kind of in the middle of all the eateries where there was a couple teaching salsa to people who are interested in learning. From what it looked like it seemed that these were all individual people that showed up separately but partnered up to learn the dance. Overall, I would definitely recommend you check this place out. We liked it so much that we're going back again tomorrow night.

Friendly and personable, we were immediately remembered after our first visit. The soup is ono, the meatballs are awesome, and my fav is the Caprese salad. Enjoy your food at the bar where you can talk story all you like with the bartenders. Thursdays are line-dancing nights and Friday is salsa nights - both are very popular and everyone is friendly. Drink at Nonna's and enjoy the events.

There are two sections to Nico's - a take out are where you can order poke, poke bowls, Hawaiian food, as well as fresh fish; also available are beer in a cooler and wine. Next door is a busy restaurant with a full bar. My sister and I wanted some poke and based on her friend's recommendation, we decided to visit. I ordered the special ultimate poke bowl (three fish selection) and it's amazing where there is more poke than rice! My sister's choice was also tasty. As we were checking out, the young cashier stated we could eat next door in the restaurant - wow, a pleasant surprise. It was during lunch so the restaurant was busy, but we found a seat. What's goes great with great fresh poke? Great fresh poke + beer, which was available at the bar! A great combination. Located off of Nimitz, Nico's is located on the far end of a converted warehouse, close to the pier, park and walk. It's worth visiting.

It has bar seating, cocktail lounge seating and a few "dining tables." The food is pretty good, I would give it a 4/5 because the portions are rather moderately small. But overall tasty and the bacon is outstanding. We had to order 6 items for 2 people to feel slightly full. But the menu is also fairly small with just tasting style apps meant for sharing and enjoying, they are not hearty and not meant to be entree sized. The cocktails are great, they do a wonderful presentation complete with smoke and etc. They have an extensive whiskey list and the options are are all diverse (mules, daiquiri, mescal, champs) yet standard. Now the service is pretty bad, greeted and asked repeatedly if we had a reservation which we did, we almost felt unwelcomed. Then the older skinny bartender perhaps in his 60's was very unfriendly and tried not to talk to us, take our order or even acknowledge us even though he was standing in front of us drinking water from his water bottle. This guy needs to work at a gas station or something where he can just sit in a corner and not speak to people. I wouldn't come here again, but if I were in the area and craving bacon I suppose I would. =) Bad service is just so off-putting.

The cucumber was also perfect and it's amazing how everything was so crisp on the outside yet soft on the inside! The crab pasta was a standout. The flavors just melded together perfectly with the soft shell crab being an amazing garnish to the dish. It was tender and crisp. You can just eat it as is with the pasta and it just was absolutely delicious. They give you an option if you want some blue crab garnish on the pasta - make sure to say yes. The crab adds such a nice kick to the creaminess of the pasta. Did I also mention how big the portion was!? You could probably order the crab pasta and another entree to share with friends. Dessert was unique. The flan was rich and the lychee was a delicious side. The popcorn ice cream was very different than what I'm used to. The ice cream has a very grainy texture with the accents of popcorn. The butter mochi was standard but a good additional texture for the popcorn ice cream. Not too sure if I would order that again, but the flan was definitely my favorite dessert of the meal. Ambiance is a darker mood with dim lighting. It adds to the luxurious vibe of the restaurant itself. I noticed people came dressed up for their reservations as they walked in. Definitely a great spot to go with friends/family. Service was quick and helpful - very attentive with filling up our waters and making sure we were ok. Definitely a standout restaurant. I'm a fan!
