This is an order at the register and find a table kind of place. That said, if you want to eat and drink at the bar, sit and order from the bartender (decent selection of local beers). We got the blackened fish sandwich and the beef stew. Of the two, the beef stew is better. Also next to the restaurant is a fish market where you can get poke or sashimi. Not bad. read more

Although the menu is a bit limited and ranging from almost 25 bucks for fish and d chips to almost 40 for a little steak, this place has always been a treat to stop in just for the usually excellent service and the fresh quality of all presentation. So, when a hair was found in my daughters cheesecake it was a bit shocking! The waiter recognized the grotesque error in production and immediately ask is she wolike another slice. She agreed and was presented with the hair free 8.50 version. It is common practice to not only provide the option of replacing the product for the customer but to remove the charge for the hair laced food from the bill. This action not only expresses the restaurants remorse but signifies their desire to keep you as a returning customer. Unfortunately this did not occur nor was any Kama' Aina discount applied (resident discount). Curious to know if the assumption that we, African Americans, are not aware of the rights a d wrongs in the service industry. Nonetheless, as a travel provider for tourists here in Hawaii, I will not longer recommend or refer tourists to Nico's pier 38 from this day forward. So sad. I got the poke bowl, hubby got fish n chips. Food came out quick. The salad dressing was fresh and zippy, even quite umami. Quite delish - wait, not really... it's fricken awesome! The fish n chips came with one large filet of fish and chips. Not sure what kind of fish but it's dense and meaty. I took a bite and 'oh wow" escaped my full mouth. For mains: My friend ordered the prime rib plate and could not stop talking about how tender and flavorful it was. Generous portion, cooked beautifully, and paired well with the sides. Another friend had the shrimp scampi pasta, and it was rich and comforting without being heavy. The shrimp were plump, the sauce creamy and well-balanced. I went with the fish and chips, and this is where I was especially impressed. The batter was golden and crisp without being greasy, and the fish inside was flaky and fresh. Fries were seasoned and crunchy -- which, let's be honest, is not always guaranteed. And we absolutely had to order drinks. Refreshing, citrusy, and delicious. The kind of drinks that pair perfectly with a waterfront breeze. Service deserves its own moment -- our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and honest. We walked over to try this place and it was very crowded. When you walk in, you can take a menu at the table in the front. It's open seating so if there aren't any seats then you just have to wait. When you're ready to order, you go to the counter in the front to order and pay, and they give you a beeper so you can pick up your food when it's ready. I had the herb Dijon salmon salad but it was too much sauce for me. My husband got the seafood jambalaya and that was good. I would try just a poke bowl next time. It's been a little while since ive been here but im happy to report that the food was tastier than I remembered, came out faster, and best of all, Portion sizes were huge! Ordered my usual ahi belly - must say that i think it doubled in size. Although the ahi belly was slightly overcooked, having the salsa is the best part. Perhaps needs more with the large fish portion. Next time I'll order a side of it. Tried the hamburger steak for the first time too. Delish! Also ordered their special hamachi kama. Also overcooked but ok since it came with sauce. Unfortunately they were tiny kama but had multiple pieces. From the poke side, of course we had to order handful of different poke. First review of 2026. Been here many times but it had been a minute since I've eaten here. I would usually get one of their daily special plates but decided to get the tried and true Fish & Chips on this occasion. Nico's fish & chips is still so good. I really like their fries here and the fish had great flavor by itself but I loved dipping it into the tartar sauce. I always forget to ask for extra tartar sauce cause I like dipping the fries in it too. Haha. Nico's is always a good choice when you're in town. First time eating at Nico's and we had a great experience! We came on a Sunday night so it wasn't as busy. It was about a 5 minute wait and then we seated. I believe our server was Andrew and he made our time at Nico's awesome! He started off with drinks and dinner specials then proceeded with ordering the appetizers. We went with the edamame and the crab & artichoke dip. As the appetizers came out, we also ordered our entrees. I ordered the special - Crusted Ahi with a special garlic cream sauce. I got it medium rare. It was the first time i've been asked how i wanted my fish cooked which i had no clue. The other half ordered the Furikake Pan Seared Ahi. While we were waiting for the food, we decided to rip some Pokemon cards and Andrew (who also collects) provided us a bag for the empty wrappers and wished us good luck! It was a fun experience, and it was awesome we got to do it in the restaurant. After ripping, we got our entrees and wow the medium rare was so unique to me. It was crusty and cooked on the outside but once in the middle you had a raw ahi. Its kind of the best of both worlds. The garlic cream sauce was also tasty! The appetizers were also enjoyable and our little one loved the edamame. Lastly, we ordered some dessert and got their chocolate brownie with caramel and ice cream on the side. So Nico's is close to the airport and we were really hungry so this is a great first stop after a long flight. You aren't going here for the island vibe or scenery though since it's at a marina just as it suggests. This is a seat yourself establishment, where you grab your menu and order at the register. We found no trouble with seating and there is quite a bit. So there is really no service except the bartender who was nice enough. This the 3 star review for service and atmosphere. I ordered the Catch of the Day and a burger. The days catch was a panko crusted Ahi cut covered in a garlic gravy that was delicious. It also came with Mac salad and rice. The burger was solid but nothing unique about it. Lastly I ordered a very tasty Pier 38 punch cocktail with four different kinds of rum. I hope to be editing this review in the future since my family has been coming here for quite some time now during our visits to O'ahu. The food historically has been well-priced & of great quality/taste, but this time the food was quite sad. The bouillabaisse I ordered arrived at the table tepid/lukewarm, and I didn't want to send it back with the risk of them reheating it (with the seafood) in the microwave ... so I ate it. Not really any saffron flavor to it, barely any fish or seafood. Both my parents' food was subpar as well, though their dishes showed up piping hot. The value & quality of food has gone WAY down. The service was pretty awful as well - after about 20 minutes of waiting, we hadn't seen our server since she dropped off the water, so we pulled another waiter aside & he did absolutely nothing to help, even told us that he couldn't do anything. You can't go track down our server for us? Or delegate out? It made sense why it was not busy at all for dinner service. I'm not sure we will be back again, but if we do come back & the food is better (even if it is expensive), I will update/revise my review. read more

Haven't been here in a while and was craving ahi belly for lunch on a Sunday around 11am. When you walk in, pick up a menu and seat yourself. Once you have decided on what you're craving you order at the cashier, she gives you a buzzer and hands you a drink cup if you ordered drinks. There's water cups near the soda fountain and refills for soda/juice are $2. By the time I sat down after filling my soda the line to order was about 6 parties. We had a little more time to share before taking my friend to the airport for our final goodbye. For now anyway. It was an opportunity to grab a drink and listen to live local music (one time we even had an impromptu super special hula performance) so I suggested we stop by Nico's. My friend was over the moon to see Guinness on tap. You see, he's a world traveler and there was something magical about having delicious malty nitro Irish beer in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Or so I learned. So happy to see him geek and trip out in the best way. Icing on the cake was we were taken such good care of by Mike and another super cool Asian man behind the bar. It was Sunday night for the team taking a guess at who I'm speaking of. But last time I was in we had this sexy tatted very intimidating local braddah who made me a ginger herbaceous limey mocktail that I know he didn't want to make but he still took such good care. It was remarkable! And so I note. Basically service is a hundo. Delicious, too. Last point I'll make is this hammah dessert. Walk, don't run, gotta make sure you get to the pier safely. Live music + incredible food = what could possibly be better?! Food: AMAZING! So fresh and tasty. Everything we had was perfect. The Bubu Arare Salmon Crusted Salad was my favorite. I legit think I will crave that salad... It was beyond good probably the best salad I've ever had at a restaurant. I loved that the greens and vegetables just tasted so crunchy and fresh, and the salmon was huge and so yummy. The deep fried bubu arare gave it a crispy chewy texture, which was so good. Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente too. We also got the grilled peppercorn swordfish, which was delicious. Everything here made us feel good afterwards and just tasted so healthy. I got the Pier 38 Double Fish Burger. I don't like onions and the fish patty comes with onions in it. The menu didn't state it came with onions and I didn't ask. It also has a citrusy/dill flavor I didn't love. I did switch meals with the person I was with. I ended up eating the Crab Cake Burger which I had before and highly recommend. First place I would visit coming into Oahu if of course I arrived close to night time and needed a spot. It's not so close but close enough to probably also go to the airport afterwards. Food was great, I was just a little disappointed as they had a special on the steak. The time I arrived the special was too good to be true and they had ran out. It was super slammed during HH, around 4:30, so we actually went to the Upstairs and then came back down at 5:45 and found a couple of seats open at the bar. I've been coming to Nico's Pier 38 for a long time and the quality of the food is still there. The fish is fresh, flavors are solid, and overall it still tastes like the Nico's people know and like. No complaints about the actual cooking or freshness. That said, what's hard to overlook is the portion size compared to the price. I completely understand that costs go up and restaurants have to adjust. But you can't really reduce the portion size and raise the price at the same time without customers feeling it. The plate I got felt like about half of what it used to be, and it was roughly $3-4 more than before. That's a noticeable difference. At some point it stops feeling like a fair value, even if the food still tastes good. I don't mind paying more, or even getting a slightly smaller portion, but both together makes it tough to justify coming back as often. Quality is still solid, but the value just isn't what it used to be. read more

I guess it was during "Happy Hour" and there were lots of Pau Hana Patrons...enjoying their cocktails, pupus and dinner! Considering it was busy, we had an awesome server who took good care of us throughout the evening. We started off with drinks and a pupu. Here's what we ordered: LAVA FLOW: it was very delicious and a perfect balance of rum to the creaminess of the coconut flavor SHIRLEY TEMPLE: refreshing and yummy! ANGRY AHI DIP: that came with won ton chips. It was meh! We would not order this again. It was disappointing. I thought it was a fresh ahi dip with fresh crispy chips. Sadly, the dip tasted like can tuna and the chips were stale and soggy. Would not recommend this pupu. For dinner, here's what we ordered: FURIKAKI PAN SEARED AHI: this was...FIRE! The ahi was perfectly cooked and seasoned! The portion was very generous, too. I loved it! Highly recommend this! Used to love it here but two bad meals in a row. Last time it was the peppercorn swordfish. Super dry, rubbery and i could not even taste any peppercorn sauce. This time i ordered the seafood chowder. If you are expecting a big sourdough bread bowl like you would find at Boudin in San Francisco you will be disappointed. This was more like a bread cup and the seafood chowder was pretty pathetic with a tiny cube of salmon about a half inch and that was it. So disappointed because i used to love it here. About a year ago I had the fish and chips and it was good but the portion was tiny. People come for the entertainment and vibe but they need to step it up on the food and maybe cut out some of the bad items on the menu. read more

If you come in the morning, there's a separate counter where you order and pay first, kind of like takeout, and then you find a table and wait for your food. Right next to it is a poke bar, which is known for being extremely fresh and is often considered one of the best poke spots in Honolulu. We had the mahi-mahi omelet and poke for breakfast, and both were very fresh and delicious. The quality of the fish really stood out. The only downside was the service. When the food was ready, the server literally shouted across the room for us to come get it. It wasn't even crowded, so it felt unnecessary and a bit uncomfortable.
