I am fully recovered from the surgery and the outcome is devastating. She drastically altered the structure of my face. I initially had a larger, crooked (due to a childhood injury) nose. I believed she would only straighten the nose and reduce a small portion from the top ridge. Instead, I now have a short, bulbous, crooked nose and others can now see the inside of my nostrils. The results of her handiwork are very devastating and unattractive. Sadly, this is not my primary concern. Unbeknownst to me and WITHOUT my consent, Dr. Maxwell made the decision to sever the muscle between my nose and upper lip. The result of her independent, and IMO unethical, decision is that I have lost my ability to smile, the distance between my nose and upper lip has become disproportionately elongated, and my upper lip always sits flat and low. She took away my ability to smile. Some of the remarks I have received post-surgery include, "You don't look awful, you just don't look like yourself" and "you're just not photogenic." When discussing photographs taken of me post surgery, I have been told, "You need to smile"--yet I am smiling--and "you have a peculiar expression"--I am merely trying to smile. One person saw a photo of me before the surgery and said "Wow, that's a great photo of you!" The cutting of this muscle was NEVER addressed with me. I have sought opinions from leading facial plastic surgeons across the United States, all of whom are baffled as to why she performed this muscle cut and none were able to offer a solution for repairing the damage. Trusting Dr. Maxwell to work on my face is one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. If you want work done on your face please seek out a facial plastic surgeon so that you don't have to face this kind of trauma.
