As the names…read moresuggest, Average Joe's is a bunch of "locals" working out at a modest gym owned by a "local", and GloboGym is the national chain that attracts models, celebrities, and world-class athletes with its state-of-the-art equipment, spa services, and chic design. IAC is most definitely the Average Joe's of the Kent Island area. (Note: Club1 is the GloboGym equivalent.) The owner of IAC is a jovial ex-wrestler who will make you laugh with his gruff humor and make you cry with his years of experience with personal training (read: torture). The equipment is good, if not a little dated and worn, and kept clean. On staff are friendly, down-to-earth trainers who will help you get in shape and feel like a hero for doing so. And for you busy parents, there is a small daycare service to entertain the kids while you train. The rates are very fair, and plans range from long-term (6 months) to month-to-month. If you work in the Narrows (area in which IAC is situated) you get a discount. The gym shares full shower and locker room facilities with the neighboring pool. All facilities are always kept clean as a whistle. The IAC is a great way to support a local business and get in shape with your friends and neighbors. As someone who grew up in the area, it was refreshing to run into my teachers, friends, and other neighborhood types there. Contrast that with Club1, where I always caught myself thinking (during my one week trial), "Where do all these beautiful jerks come from?" Indeed, most at Club1 would likely say (to quote White Goodman from Dodgeball): "Here at (Club1) we're better than you, and we know it.." The Island Athletic Club may made of a bunch of average Joe's, but they're my average Joe's, and I'll work out there before anywhere else.

I'd rather go here than any chain gym like Planet Fitness every day. If you're looking for a personal trainer, go with Coach Coop! She's the best trainer I've ever had and she will push you without killing you. Best part is if you are over a certain age, you have 24-hour access to the gym.

I was becoming depressed and gaining weight because of the pain. Someone I suggested said I should set up an appointment with Dr. Mowry! I did and I am in love. Dr. Mowry took time to really listen to me. She was bubbly and caring. She knew just the right questions to ask and get me to explain what I was looking for. I have had 4 sessions with her and have felt major results for the better. Am I pain free no. But it's less severe and makes me feel like things are moving forward. I also contacted her office about having a severe flare up. She was in contact with me a little bit later and squeezed me in to her full schedule. I felt so bad for taking her personal time. Just happened to be in the bay area this weekend and stumbled upon this shop. And since I forgot my fingerboard at home, they even let me borrow a shopboard . When we got to the top of the stairs, they had a bunch of highly detailed , great quality diy and blackriver fingerboard parks and vast selection of skateboard decks if you need a new one. Just overall amazing shop, this place is definitely a one in a million spot on the east coast, and I totally recommend!!
