Since I'm a regular at neighboring Egg Bistro, Red Chair and Elite Nails, I have seen Dawn Pilates studio a few times now and was always curious about getting back into some form of physical activity. So I checked out their website and signed up for an introductory class yesterday evening. The studio is immaculately clean and the equipment is very well kept. They have sanitizer available and the instructors wear masks during classes. As you enter, you'll find cubbies to secure your belongings right up front. Toward the back, they have restrooms and a private studio. They have a selection of activewear, socks and other accessories to aid your practice and make you feel fancy. Personally, I find that cute workout wear inspires me to work harder. You will have to sign a waiver and provide some health-related info before starting. I am glad they ask for this as, without knowledge, you can easily exacerbate injuries if you do not make your instructors aware. They also inquire about your goals and will offer suggestions about how often to practice to reach your goals. They have a variety of equipment (reformer with tower, TRX, Bosu, other mats and balls) so that your classes won't get stale and you will see continuous progress. The introductory class is no-pressure, super informative and a quick way to fall in love with pilates (for me, a 2nd time around). Brande was the instructor and guided my form during the class while also being motivating and encouraging. After we finished, she reviewed the pricing with me (again, no pressure.. thanks, Brande!) and asked if I had questions. Like hot yoga, prices are definitely an investment for memberships, but they have several options depending on how often you expect to take class and are currently offering a 10% discount until the end of the year. I asked about pay-in-full discounts and she indicated that was also an option. I expected to feel incredibly sore this morning and I do, which is such a good feeling! My wallet won't be as happy as the rest of my body though...shew! But I am certainly eager to start taking classes regularly!

They also asked me further questions, like my fitness goals, history, and health status. Walking into the studio for my complimentary Foundations Class was a little nerve wrecking only because I was the only one signed up for the class! However, my instructor Julia, made me feel comfortable that it was just her and I this evening. The Foundations Class is the initial class you should take before jumping into the three other classes they offer. I still got a full body workout with the initial class, my legs were still shaking from the intensity, I left sweaty, but I do not feel overworked. I left my Foundations Class with a new membership to Pure Barre! I'll be here 3x a week, hopefully - wish me luck with my fitness journey, y'all!

In group, It is uncanny how she has an eye on everyone, so you might feel a light touch on your knee to keep it aligned while she's ensuring the group is inhaling and exhaling at proper intervals to optimize your workout. In private sessions (which I am enjoying right now during the healing of my broken arm), she isolates the intended muscle(s) so no impact to the injured area. She has also helped me with my PT exercises and puts a Pilates spin on it. Even when I was uncomfortable due to chronic pain (that has subsided, thank goodness) and not at my best, she encourages me. I am now able to do things I couldn't even dream of doing even as a teen. The studio is super cute too! With a Moss green wall and a purple velvet couch in the waiting room and a great choice of equipment (reformers, cadillac, barrels, low and high chairs, foot correctors... you name it). If you have not done any hot exercise (hot yoga, etc) in the past, you may not feel great after your first workout - but that's because the toxins are leaving your body! Bring plenty of water (in a closely container, no open straws!) and a towel. They provide special heat resistant mats for the isometric classes (Pilates, barre, yoga just to name a few), and also offer high intensity classes such as cycling or rowing. I had a great experience doing the barre class. There is a virtual instructor on the screen guiding you through the poses. You can also schedule your own sessions via the mobile app - it's very easy to either schedule solo visits or with up to 2 friends in the same class. Also a benefit: 24 hour access to members, to fit their individual needs. Definitely a great place to promote your health and sweat it out!

I wanted to be sure the doctor's note remained in effect for the upcoming month so I was not charged. I was told it was. However, I saw that I was charged on my account. When I called, it was my word against their's and I had nothing to fall back on. I had been so pleased with them but this interaction was not positive on their behalf. They (the GM) said it was not noted in my account that I was told the doctor's note would carry me through the new month nor that I needed a new doctor's note. I did not document to whom I spoke. So, i had to pay for a month I could not use.

So so so glad you guys are here and welcome to the neighborhood. The studio is brand new in a brand new shopping center. The studio itself isn't too spacious, however, with only one workout space and small check in section and storage area. So there may be some congregating before and after class but it'll thin out as the studio settles down. There's also active construction going on in the other retail spaces, which generally is drowned out by the music. If you're brand new like me, definitely take the intro class. I didn't even know how to lay down nor grab the straps before class but able to follow along the reformer flow class and felt confident to try flow 1.5 and cardio sculpt by the second week!

The instructors, Catie and Anna, take their time to get to know us and ask if there are any particular areas on which we'd like to focus. They're more than happy to manually adjust/improve our postures, whereas instructors at other studios don't want to touch us due to fear of cooties! The studio is clean, simple and basic. Fellow classmates are also friendly as Kempsville is typically a friendly neighborhood. I'm taking advantage of the grand opening deal for unlimited monthly classes. If only I can squeeze in more class time in between work and school!

As a first timer walking into Norfolk's Club Pilates Cardio Sculpt class, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had only done the free intro class last week, so I guess the class was going to do, maybe a little reformer work, some light stretching, nothing too crazy! Baaaby! SPOILER :Mama got a FULL body, heart pumpin', sweat drippin', muscle shakin' workout tuhday!! What surprised me most was how seamless the class blended traditional Pilates movements with cardio burst, like leg circles, jumping lunges, squats, and core-cardio sculpting!!! What?! Yes! My abs, arms, and glutes, are still talking about it. Despite being a newbie, I never felt lost. Pam, the instructor, offered mods and checked on me and others often. Pam, who was the instructor, was very informed and made sure everyone were safe in their movements on the reformer. The location is great, it's at the new Railyard at Lambert's Point and there were plenty of parking. They have different membership options and their app makes it really easy to buy and make appointments for classes. I highly recommend trying this place out! If you don't want to pay for membership, they have a $29/class option.
