The Bar Method is my absolute favorite place in the world for workouts…read more I started my fitness journey five years ago, taking CrossFit classes that never seemed to fit to me nor show any physical improvement for myself, and I wasn't sure why. A year ago I found out I have a connective tissue disorder that makes it incredibly hard for my muscles to be able to engage the way other people's do. My doctor recommended I try low impact workouts and that's when I came across The Bar Method. Right from my first class I knew this was the place for me! Every single instructor I have had in the past year (Liz, Shelby, Liz, Kate, Sam, Mariana, Jenna) has been incredible, not only at correcting my form when I was just starting out, but also at offering modifications when an exercise might've been too much for me. As someone with an "invisible" disability, one that affects every single muscle and joint in my body, I never thought that I'd be able to work out without pain. The Bar Method, and every single one of its instructors, has showed me that movement isn't supposed to be painful. I do not have enough words to describe the impact this studio has made to my quality of life. Even on those days where my disability is too much, I never skip a class because I know that there are still ways to give it my all, with modifications and taking it slow. If you're thinking about trying The Bar Method, be ready to experience a life-changing workout in an amazing community.

Gave SLT a shot while visiting my in laws for Fourth of July, because I do Pilates…read morefor cross training 3-4 times a week and wanted to stay consistent while on vacation for a few days. I had done two Lagree classes prior to trying SLT as well as a Solidcore class at one of their LA studios. I opted for SLT this time only because they had a 2/$40 intro deal which was a little more cost effective than paying the drop in rate at the Solidcore studio nearby. I showed up for my first of two classes, and the reception girl was nice and gave me a refresher on the megaformer but warned me "you'll be lost and that's okay". She actually advised me to "copy others" if that became the case. That should have been my sign to leave, as Lagree and Pilates are both about having proper form, not just "copying" another participant which can lead to injury. If your cueing is that bad where participants are "lost," perhaps you shouldn't market it as an "all levels" class. Then I find out the instructor I had signed up for was switched to Farah, which should have been my second sign to leave. Dang, was she is rough. And not in a good way. She's forceful, impatient, and comes off very pompous. She actually had us hold movements to a beat at one point, like what? You're supposed to count at a steady pace; what instructor worth their salt coordinates the movements to their playlist? I spent the first 20 minutes debating on whether I should just walk out before I decided to ignore her vibe and just sweat it out. Instead of leaving empowered to take on my day, I left demoralized and disappointed. Then I took Alexandra's class on my second of two visits, and it was night and day. She's truly the only reason I'm giving SLT 3 stars and not 1. She was the saving grace, as she offered fantastic cues and did good demonstrations that were easy to follow. If I'm "copying" anyone, it should be the trained instructor. Alexandra was also attentive to everyone and offered gentle corrections when needed. She was courteous and asked if I'm okay with hands-on corrections, which I appreciated as well. I thanked her for turning my experience at SLT around and left her class feeling strong and inspired. Can't say I'd ever go back to SLT though. I prefer studios that are a bit more professional and prioritize safety and form. Since those two classes, I racked up 6 more Lagree classes in California on top of my normal Pilates routine. Yet to have any experience get close to rivaling the awful class I had with Farah, and I vow to walk out of any instructor's class that times a movement to "when the beat drops."

Get ready to sweat (I accidentally had written the word "swear" and was going to remove it but…read morerealized that's probably a reality too!) shake and burn- don't go if you're tired / dehydrated/ hung over / hungry etc - you really need to be in top shape to try this workout Especially If it's your first time GO EARLY! The owner did a nice job of showing me the machine and explaining aaaalllllll the parts pieces and accessories... I teach on a traditional reformer and this was an ENTIRELY different ball game !! The coach was very good at constantly coming up to me and correcting form and pointing out when I wasn't listening/ understanding cues correctly- even your BRAIN needs to be turned on and ready to listen cause it's ALOT ! Hope they come to DC one day !

The instructors at the Pilates Link are extremely professional, knowledgeable, and work with each client to teach them the technique for each exercise, how to move (and breathe!) with purpose and strength, and to challenge the body in new ways with each workout. The equipment is new and modern, and the studio is bright and clean. After each workout, I can consistently count on feeling stronger and more balanced.

After only 3 months, I've noticed a huge difference in strength and posture. Classes are definitely challenging, there's always a new area to work on and develop. The instructor offers individual support, encouragement and humor, all of which makes me want to keep at it until I finish that last set. The facility is very clear and the equipment is in pristine condition. The membership fees are very reasonable and there aren't any long term commitments. Everyone that attends a class is serious about health and wellness; therefore, you won't see any women in full make-up or guys standing around talking. It's no-nonsense however, everyone is extremely nice. I would recommend everyone to attend at least one class, then you'll be hooked.

If I'm basing this review purely on the studio and instructor comparative to other studios I have been to, I have to say it still does not meet the 5 star standard. I've been to a couple of yoga studios and unfortunately this place was not the best or the most amazing studio I have been too. The place was clean and did provide equipment which was definitely a plus and the yoga instructor was very sweet and took her time which was nice but the instructor was mainly on her own mat whereas other places the instructor would walk around and make sure everyone is doing well and help out. There were also other nice free benefits in other studios such as a hot/cool rag that's given after class that's infused with nice aromas- whereas this place (maybe it was just the private event I took) but just did the class and you left. I would say this is your standard local yoga studio where if this is the closest studio it works out but I wouldn't want to drive specifically FOR this studio. Hope this review clarified that my previous review wasn't just based off of how I feel towards restorative yoga but towards the actual studio/experience as well
