We hired Andrea Ball as our "day of" coordinator for a wedding in the Buffalo, NY area and she did…read morean outstanding job that made our wedding so much more enjoyable as she took so much of the stress out of it. While we did much of the vendor selection and planning (site, florist, cake) on our own, Andrea reviewed contracts for us, came with us to planning meetings, and recommended vendors for areas we had not yet found one. She found people on short notice when things came up (e.g. piano player for our cocktail reception) and made sure that we had thought through all the issues for the day of our wedding. But the real value was on the day of the wedding. Andrea had everything moving on time, with little stress, and it just made things move by so smoothly. Andrea has great working relationships throughout the area which adds to her value in making sure things get done without a hitch -- and if there is a hitch - she'll fix it before it becomes a problem. We initially met Carla at Château du Feÿ, where she was employed. After a disappointing experience with another planner, we hired Carla 5 months before our wedding, hoping her 3+ years of specialized venue expertise would be invaluable. To our surprise, Carla had not worked with half of our vendors before - even though they were part of the short list of recommended vendors provided by the venue. Despite her website's claims, Carla's design suggestions felt generic and lacked the personalized touch we were looking for. Carla's lack of attention to detail became increasingly apparent as we worked with her. Our wedding had many unique and custom details. Lots of information that a seasoned wedding planner would be able to keep an attentive handle on. The mounting oversights caused significant stress in the final weeks leading up to the wedding. We were genuinely anxious that our vision wouldn't be realized. Luckily, we had multiple vendors and family friends that helped Carla execute the event. As the bride, I distanced myself as much as possible from Carla to allow myself to enjoy the day without frustration. This is not the typical experience. While we appreciate Carla's willingness to take us on with short notice, and she did have some helpful insights regarding sourcing a local florist and unique videographers, her lack of attention to detail ultimately overshadowed those positives. We were given what I equated to an "airplane bottle". I also should point out the plastic champagne glasses that we were given. Extremely ridiculous when I know that the minister only received $100 of the $300. So I asked myself, what the HELL did the other $200 go to? We were also given a bible with memorable information inscribed inside it. I should mention the bible was white and had noticeable spots where "white out" had been applied. I could hardly believe it myself. We were told the types of ceremonies they offered but were never actually asked what we preferred. She arrived an hour early to help set everything up which was SO helpful. The flowers were BEAUTIFUL and exactly what I had wanted. She had tulips, hydrangeas, daisies, and a few other spring time flowers, along with a few succulents and even a few pussy willows! The arrangements were the appropriate size and style for the shower and tables. I had requested a "flower buffet" type of thing, so that the attendants of the shower could make a bouquet to take home with them. She brought the flowers in these huge rustic tins, all cut and read to go. She had shears also so people could cut them even smaller if they wanted, and was ready to assist anyone. She had helpful tips for how to keep the flowers fresh. I absolutely love Christy's.. what I would describe as a raw and rustic aesthetic! She has a true passion not only for flowers, but for gardening and growing those flowers naturally. I am truly excited to be working with her for my wedding coming up in May as well, as I know everything will be beautiful! Weird place, but worth a stay!…read more We were stopping by St Catharine for a couple of days to peek at the 2024 World Rowing Championships and this looked more interesting than the other available hotels. It's basically a converted mansion. Our room was very comfortable with a modern bathroom (shower stall only, no tub), but had antique-looking furnishings. Modern keypad entry lock though, which was good because we didn't see any staff during our stay. It's weird because there was no front desk and our first night there was only one other car in the parking lot. It was busier the second night but we still never saw any guests other than in the parking lot. It was fun wandering around the beautiful building and grounds. It's also right next to a trail if you want to bike or hike. Only negative was there was no coffee machine in our room, but they had coffee and Tim Horton donuts downstairs. You could also hear water in the pipes in our room when another guest was showering, but overall it was pretty quiet.
