I had stopped by this place last year when I was in Canada and wanted to make sure I stopped by again. It is such a beautiful place, and really has that Irish pub feel that I like. I got into Canada early, so I decided to go have some lunch. I walked in, and immediately felt like I just came home. The bartender, this lovely young woman named Onya, came up and took my order. I ordered a black and tan. She suggested I go for the smooth black and tan which I did. It did not disappoint! I may have to have my black and tans like this for the rest of my life. I ordered a cup of the buffalo wing chowder, and she said it's one of the most popular items on the menu. I asked her to bring that out first before my Classic Caesar salad. Let me tell you something about that soup. Now I'm not a big soup guy, but I do like chowders, and this was the absolute best I've ever had. Had. I've had clam chowder all over the United States but man this one absolutely nails it! It has that buffalo wing flavor which just perfect and not overpowering. I should have gotten the bigger bowl of it instead of the cup. Now let's talk about the Caesar salad. It was absolutely perfect! It had the perfect ratio of dressing to lettuce, not just poured on top like most places but actually tossed. Onya said she did it herself, so massive kudos for her going above and beyond the call of duty. Overall this meal hit on all cylinders and did not disappoint. I will definitely be back here a couple more times while I'm in Canada. If you need to find me, you know where to find me. The bottom line? You really need to get the buffalo chicken wing chowder. It is absolutely an amazing soup and will change your life. And if you like a good classic Caesar, you can't do better than this one! read more

First, the parking: They are in a strip mall with lots of spaces, so parking shouldn't be a problem. Our server, whose name I forgot, was very attentive. She was professional, checked up on us multiple times, and gave us refills in a timely manner. The food was pretty good, and I would recommend. It's away from the crazy touristy part of town, so it's a little calmer. On this night, there was live entertainment. I was glad we sat further away because it would have interfered with conversation, but I appreciated the singing (just a little loud for me). Love the authentic vibe of this Irish pub -- enhanced by the rich dark woods, from the tables to the cabinets housing ales and whiskeys. The staff were clearly experienced, which makes sense given this place is in Niagara Falls -- a city that, in peak season, is overrun by tourists. I'm sure their hands are full during those times, so we were lucky to visit in the off-season. Tasty Pub Fare, Great Vibes & Even Better Reuben Bites! Doc Magilligan's is a cozy Irish pub with a solid menu, a great beer selection, and a lively atmosphere. We really enjoyed the live music--it definitely added to the vibe, though it did make chatting a bit tricky at times. That said, the sets were short and added a fun touch to the evening. We started with a few appetizers, and everything hit the spot--the cauliflower bites were tasty, the spinach dip was solid, but the star was definitely the Reuben Bites--absolutely delicious! For mains, my wife ordered the mac and cheese and loved the depth of flavour--you can really taste the leeks, which was a nice twist. I got the chicken parm mac and cheese and thought it was fantastic--the chicken was juicy, crispy, and perfectly done. The rest of our group was just as happy--my brother raved about the Chicken Pot Pie, and the Bangers and Mash were also a hit. Stopped in at Doc Magilligam's for dinner after a walk at the Falls. I wanted to find somewhere a little outside of the heavy tourist area and this was a great choice! It was located in a shared parking lot with a motel so there was plenty of parking. The interior was decorated nicely and truly felt like an Irish pub. I had the Taste of Ireland which consisted of your choice of 3 different pies. I went for Shepard, chicken pot, and one other. Our waitress was friendly and attentive during our visit. She made some good beer recommendations and they had a good selection of choices. Right when we were leaving they even had a live guitarist begin playing Inside the restaurant. OMG! I will start with the cleanliness of this place: 10/10. Bethany, our server, was amazing. Every time we asked her for her suggestions, she figured it out based on our questions, what we might like. She never tried to oversell anything from the restaurant, but she knew how to make us feel about what we might want to order. The food was excellent. Lots of hits, a 'meh' and a big miss! We stayed in the attached hotel for 3 nights and this place is convenient on so many levels. Let's start with the poolside pub: we ordered the boxty fries and they aren't bad but, like fries, they are inconsistent. Some have no substance while others are like a pancake. My daughter enjoyed them. My review is shadowed by the sore mouth I was dealing with. It was the best place to get drinks for the kids busy playing in the courtyard and you can get drinks to bring back to the room. They allow you to pay by card but you can also start a tab or charge to the room. Breakfast/brunch at the pub: quick, efficient service. They do offer the basics for kids and more interesting options for adults. Everything was fresh and kids and adults were happy. They stop serving breakfast strictly at 11 so don't be late. Dinner at the pub: very laid back, they offer in house specials and entertainment. It really had a different vibe than in the morning but still very kid friendly. My kids shared a portion of pasta. I had the Mac and cheese and despite still having a sore palate, I was able to eat almost half of it. The miss happened this visit: just avoid the braised beef ravioli, I'm sorry to the chef's but it was inedible and weird! Each time, staff were friendly, costs are reasonable and the restaurant is spacious. There are a ton of other items on the menu that I would like to try. Hopefully the next time I'm in Niagara Falls. However, this place is definitely worth visiting if you want a decent meal not far from the main strip. read more

Six and a half months after visiting Doc's, I had a boxty for dinner tonight, and it just made me want to go back to Canada and have another one at Doc's. Sure, it was good... but Doc's knocked by socks off. I went here on a recommendation from the staff at a hotel that competes with the Best Western where Doc's is located, which is always a good sign for a hotel restaurant. Got the corned beef boxty, which is amazing. With the boxty fries, which were really good - much better than standard fries, in my opinion. And had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Heavenly. I actually went back two days later after dinner at another restaurant to have the sticky toffee pudding one more time. The atmosphere is very nice, like a pub should be, with good service from the bartender, music the second night I was there, and some good conversation with a fellow traveler from London (Ontario). The odds are high that I'll be back. If you're looking for somewhere to burn all the delicious calories, my suggestions are the Niagara River Recreation Trail (from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake) and the Niagara Gorge Hiking Trails. Three and a half out of five for Doc's matches. They burn well, and are a cool souvenir, but it's difficult to strike them on the side of the box. Still useful to have around the house where I can strike them on the side of another box, but not ideal for a retro night out on the town. read more

About a month old.... Great Irish food...yes that is correct! Daughter had the Irish sampler which was chicken pot pie, Shepard's Pie and steak and mushroom pie. All three were seasoned nicely and were were very good. Wife had a steak & mushroom Boxty! It was next level good better than the Boxty we had in Dublin... I had a wedge salad which was very good! Stopped by Doc Magilligans for dinner right before visiting Niagara Falls and it was an excellent choice. I ordered the fish and chips and the Taste of Ireland and they were both delicious. The fish from the fish and chips was lightly battered, flaky, and juicy. You get a choice of one or two fish and the portion for one was super filling already. The chips had been upgraded to a poutine. The gravy had a strong aroma and deep flavors which complimented really well with the chips and cheese curds. Hands down the best poutine I had ever had in Canada. The chips were crispy and not even a bit soggy. If you are the type that likes to try multiple things, the Taste of Ireland is for you. It's basically a sampler where you get to pick three items out of the five choices. I decided on the shepherd's Pie, chicken curry, and the steak and mushroom pie. All three were so rich and flavorful. The Irish soda bread and the puff pastry was a nice touch to balance out the heavy dish. Everything was salty. My mashed potatoes and salmon were salty. The veggies were nice and buttery which was good. The shepherds pie had a seasoning that my friend didn't care for and it was also salty. It needed to go back but we didn't want to be those people. First, the restaurant is beautiful. It has a very old world feel with beautiful wood and tin ceiling. The wall in the back dining room is full of book and nick-knacks and is just lovely. Chase was our waiter and he was friendly and provided good service. The food was outstanding. We ordered the Onion soup, Irish soda bread and pretzel bites to start. All three were very good. For our meals we had fish and chips, a curry boxty, a steak and mushroom boxty and the sampler with Shepherd's pie, steak and mushroom pie and chicken curry. Went to Doc Magilligan's our last night of vacation for dinner. Service was very very slow and definitely lacking. The food was ok, but nothing that you can't really get at any other pub. Handed the menus and told to seat ourselves out on the patio. Took about 5 minutes before anyone came to take our drink / food order. Drinks came about 10 minutes later. Food was delivered. We had to ask for utensils. Server came back about 15 minutes later where I had to ask for my salad dressing that I didn't receive. When she delivered it she didn't ask about the food. This place's exterior is screaming TOURIST RESTAURANT and we were definitely not wrong in our assumption. From the moment we stepped inside, we were treated warmly, which was more than we expected in a touristy place. The hostess understood we were just there to enjoy drinks, but she told us a live band was playing that night, so she gave us a spot at the bar near the performance area. That area filled up as the night went on and more people showed up to enjoy the band. The bartender (Jaxon) was really cool, down-to-earth and fun during our visit. We ordered a variety of drinks throughout the night and a couple apps later on. Everything was good, though their Coke was flat and I seemed to get attitude when I brought it up. No biggie, I just stayed away from it after that point. The boxty fries were very interesting. I was all about them! The bill was a bit high at the end of the night, but the live band was good (even though they played music a bit older than I care to hear) and the bartender was personable so it all seemed to even out. Also not over cooked or burned, the pie was flaky and tasty. I had a Reuben boxty. It is a Reuben with a potato outer shell. The potato was made similar to a crepe or tortilla and the sauerkraut and corned beef were put inside. Had a sauce on top that was ok, but not overbearing. Kids had a spot-on burger (1.50 up-charge for cheese) and a Sheppard's pie which had some side carrots that were looking and tasting great. The pie was just ok, but my kid was not feeling 100%. A nice large pub with bar area, dining room in the front, and a band area at the back. The decor is classic pub style, I really like it. It was Friday night and they had the Word Junior Gold Game on all the TVs in the place. The band came on at 9:30pm and was loud and not that great. Their vocals were a bit off. We ordered chicken strips and beer from our sever and she was really nice. The beer and food came out quickly and all were great. Nice homemade fries and breaded chicken. Dropped in for breakfast both times I've been in Niagara Falls and left very happy each time. It is a restaurant geared towards tourists but despite that the food is genuinely interesting and it's the kind of place I'd want to keep coming back to if I lived nearby. On my first visit I had the cinnamon French toast, which was lovely French toast but not anything out of the ordinary, so on my second visit I resolved to try something more adventurous and went for the crab cake eggs benny. Sooo good! Eggs cooked to perfection, just the right amount of hollandaise, and the crab cake on top of the English muffin is a really delightful combination. The home fries it came with were also very good. My party got an order of soda bread to share which I loved, it comes with both melted butter and an onion jam. I believe we had the same waitress both times we visited. She was very nice and did a great job making us feel at home. Although, as I've stated, it's a tourist restaurant, the food and atmosphere have enough charm that I think this place would do well anywhere. read more

After we followed the billboards that advertised this Irish pub it is not close to the U.S. Border! We walked literally miles but it was so worth it! Denis the bartender went out of his way to make us comfortable . From muttling limes to go in with the crushed ice and rum for the most refresh g drink to calling is a cab to take us back to the border he was amazing! The food was spot on! Shepherds Pie had flavorful lamb and just the perfect crunch in the top of the potatoes. Beef and mushroom stew was are licking delicious .
