I've known John for several years. When we met, he was serving as a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for the SJCOG. John has a heart of service and it transfers to his business, Heida Computers. I recently called Heida Computers with questions about wiring my office with Cat5e. Although they do not offer these services, John offered his knowledge and pointed me in the right direction. I will defiantly continue reaching out to John and his team for service and advice. I wanted to start off by saying that this is no longer Heida Computers with John the previous owner. This business has a new owner (Chaucer) and is now called CM Computer. I came here to attempt to recover pictures and documents from two hard drives from older computers that were freezing up. I was told that the first hard drive had the pictures on OneDrive and none were on the hard drive and was charged $29 for the diagnostic. I brought in a second hard drive from another computer to attempt a second recovery because I knew that the pictures were definitely stored on there and brought an external hard drive for the transfer. The owner stated that he wanted to charge me $399 for the hard drive repair and an additional $150 for the data transfer by text after a few days. I decided not to do the work and came in to pick up my internal and external hard drive. The owner seemed surprised of my decision and threw out a hypothetical question on what the pictures were worth. I was confused on why he would even ask me that question but just told him that they were not worth the estimate that he gave me. I asked him a question about the first hard drive and telling him that I was 100% sure that the pictures were on the computer and asked him to explain it to me again and to "talk to me like I am dumb with computers and not like I am an idiot". He looked puzzled with my statement but the whole experience was condescending from day one each time that I asked a question about my computers. He is very knowledgeable but will make you feel like an idiot for asking any question to try and understand the recovery process. Both internal hard drives and external hard drive were taken to a computer repair shop in Stockton and the owner was the true computer expert. He explained the repairs to me and made me feel appreciated as a customer. He stated to me that the second internal hard drive and external hard drive were toast and that the documents and pictures could not be retrieved. I understand that the internal hard drive could have been jacked up because I had CM Computers take the drive off the repair process before it finished but my external hard drive was not broken when I brought it in to him. Thank goodness that they were able to retrieve the documents and pictures that CM Computer said were not on the internal hard from the beginning. He was able to retrieve 100% of the 12 GB of data. If anybody is willing to drive to Stockton for computer repairs, I highly recommend it. They are top notch with knowledge and customer care was amazing. He also does remote work to save you that trip if it fits your needs. I will be coming back for future computer needs. read more

My PC started overheating last week and I wasn't sure what to do, so I emailed Heida Computers and I got a reply that same day! I brought it in and Chaucer was very nice and professional. He informed me of what the problem could be and then let me know that I would receive updates as it was being worked on. We exchanged a few messages and then the problem was figured out much sooner than I expected! My AIO cooler had failed and they offered to order a new one or for me to bring in a new one for them to install. I appreciated the options! I opted for bringing in a new one myself so I can hopefully have the PC back that same day...and lo and behold, it was ready in less than 2 hours! I took my Mac computer on 02/02/23 to Heida computers in Ripon , I explained to technician that my friend accidentally spilled small amount of red vine on my computer key board , and I told to the technician if repair would be expansive , I will buy a new computer instead of repairing it, he said it will be approximately $600. I said if it will be like that I definitely will buy a new one. He told me to leave a computer there to look at it. Next day technician called me and said that it liquid damage and to repair it it will cost that same price that he told me before, I said that I won't do the repair. He offered me to recycle it at their place, I declined it. When I came to pick it up my computer he charged me $65 dollars for diagnostics he said. I think he should not charge me that kind of money especially I'm the one who diagnosed the problem for him, but he only open it and did not do nothing to it, just supported my own statement. I feel that as a customer I have been used . Than when I came home I found that glass on computer panel was broken in the corner, probably happened when technician opened it up for the problem. I should check at the computer when I was there to pick it up. Now it will be impossible to prove it. So, I very disappointed, I feel that I have been taken advantage of. read more

Couldn't fix a simple problem.... I took my PC in due to an inability to power up properly. Left it there a few days. Couldn't figure it out. Charged me $35 for the diagnostic. Took it home, still didn't work. Worked OK at their shop, but not at the house. Later, my son took a look and said "Dad, you hooked up your HDMI cable to the wrong port (motherboard instead of the video card slot). He swapped it around and Viola! worked like a charm. My son is NOT an IT person, so not sure why the "Experts" couldn't figure this out? Bottom line on YELP ratings is that if you pay for something that the "experts" should have been able to figure out, and they charge you for "NOT Fixing" then the rating is one star. Sound about right? Owner contacted me wanting to provide a refund. Declined as i'm not worried about the cash (my time is worth more than the $35 they charged me), was more of a customer service issue and the amount of time i spent trying to get the equipment repaired (taking time off from work...). He was sensitive to the negative rating, so i compromised and revised my rating from the one star because he at least offered a refund. Cheers! read more

Our office this morning was in complete disaster mode. We got a dreaded "locky" virus and made our office incapacitated. Upon a recommendation from a good friend, we called Heida Computers. I bet I sounded in complete desperation that Sam came within a couple of hours (same day) to help us get back on and running. It took him less than three hours to get us back and running and we continued with our day with new found appreciation for our file server. I don't know why I haven't written a review for this place sooner... I'm slacking! After having bad history with previous computer repair places, I was clueless on where to go next to get some decent help. I looked online for a couple places that seemed decent. The first place sent me straight to a voicemail, so I hung up. Heida Computers answered their phone on the first ring! That deserves my business! I spoke to Sam and he was so informative and helpful and that really made me feel better about this computer repair drama. He quoted me a price on the phone, and even after repairing my computer, still stuck to that price. They only kept my device for about two days, unlike other places that need it for weeks. Sam treated me like a friend that he's known for a while, and he breaks down computer information to where you understand it. They don't pressure you into anything, or treat you like a vulnerable victim by trying to sell you parts you don't need. I called Heida Computers because I needed to replace the GPU in my Mac Pro 5,1 to be compatible with Mojave. I had a budget of up to $600 in mind, because I suspected there was going to be more than just a GPU replacement needed. There was no answer during business hours, but I got a call back within 5 minutes. I was condescendingly told that my Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU was compatible with Mojave (it absolutely is not). I was told that the glitches and artifacts I was experiencing were due to having dark mode turned on. There were several other things that were "explained" to me that anyone who had even a rudimentary knowledge of Mac OS Mojave, and compatible metal support GPUs would have known were dead wrong. I can't for the life of me figure out why a business would squander hundreds of dollars worth of business just to talk down to me on the phone, with completely inaccurate information. read more

I took our desktop to Heida to have a virus removed. They did a great job and charged me exactly what they said they would at the beginning. One month later I found that I was having some residual issues that I believed were related to the virus. I took it back and John spent 2 days working on it. He kept me updated throughout that time. When he was finished they gave me my computer back, honored their warranty, and didn't charge me anything. Their staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Okay, i am never really good with people around the central valley because most people around here are crooks but i have to give it to this place and the yelper that found this place. They are professional and quick. I had a problem with my computer and i could not figure it out so i took it to them. In two days, they found the problem and solved it. The technician that fix my problem was kelly. It was a memory problem and he solved it in two days. If i have any more computer repairs i would definitely come back here. Also just to let you guys know take the opportunity to check in and you can get a 10% discount for your repair. I can not say anymore great things about my experience even though i had a little trouble with communication in the beginning they still resolved my problem so in my book they are amazing.
