To go to a sedation dentist that has done 5 root canals on browns he's placed in 4 years - one of which I had replaced yesterday at Manlius dental, because 1/3 of it broke off. I have 2 more that are chipped. But let's go on! I saw a dentist that said I needed 17 root canals. I had a dentist who sent me to another dentist because he couldn't tell if I needed a root canal. ANNNNND... lastly I saw a dentist who said I needed a special dentist to work with people like myself that are... deformed by cancer. Nope- forgot Fallon brothers who told me in September I could not go there because I have Medicaid, and it's a Covid rule. Which is odd. Because I saw them the day before lockdown to pull a tooth. So that's 5 years of trying to find a dentist after surviving and reversing a terminal cancer (lung/trachea/bronchus metastatic to small bowel. Entered hospice at 60 pounds August 2019. Cancer-free since November 2019 (self-paid for the treatment I wanted) and off treatment 6+ years. Two points: treatment - much of which was in my trachea, a coma and a month long mechanical ventilation coupled with severe malnutrition destroyed my teeth. And people were jerks about it. Second point: 20 year anxiety buddy of a dentist died. 10 days after I started treatment after hospice. He was 50, and I was in the same hospital, and I was traumatized. I'd known him since I was 3. So this is why I say it matters that I think Manlius Dental is an excellent facility. They aren't phoning in the work. They aren't doing stuff that needs to be done. They aren't trying to hold a face that pretends it's listening when you talk. There's no ego, no as*holes and a genuine understanding about dental phobia. I've worked with 2 of the dentists, because they don't like to make you wait in pain just so whoever gets paid. You have the choice almost always to come in same or next day. And so I drive from Cicero, and it's worth it. I'm not made to feel like a child, a whiner, or an imposition. I appreciate that. But on top of that, procedures and sedations are each 100's of dollars less than at my former dentist(s). So why are they better, but cheaper? I think, and you can quote me in this - it because they give a damn about their patients. This, is home. And taking the stress out of dental distress has been awesome.

The office feels like a family. It is open and collaborative. The front desk always knows who I am even before I check in. Mark is a great dentist and will not take advantage of you. I've known many people who have experienced bad dentists and Mark has changed their opinion about dentistry! My only compliant is the music in the rooms. Depends on the time of year, the music playing can change. The volume seemed to have a mind of its own while I was there this week.

When I was choking on the x-ray instrument I had to take it out to readjust it- HE COVERED MY MOUTH WITH HIS CREEPY GLOVED HAND AND TOLD ME TO SHUT UP. I was a tiny, sweet, five year old. They tortured me over about three years. My parents wern't allowed in the room. We would wait HOURS past our appointment time. This office is a torture barn- money machine. I was too scared to tell, so I can't sue. But God help you if you send your kid to this scum bag.

Imagine how miserable that was in the worst years of a kid's life. Everything took longer than their office estimated.... Headgear for 4 months turned into 2 years. Lip bumpers for a year turned into 3 years. Some thing I was supposed to chew on for a couple months turned into a year and a half. They never even ran their appointments on time. And the guy was mean... he pulled a tooth out with my sister when she was 8. When she started tearing up he told her to not act like a baby. Seeing as I was in braces for 7 years, you'd think it would at least be pain free as they were taking their time.... nope. Woke up nightly in pain and tried to live off a diet of junk food as a kid since I didn't like to chew on anything. Results: nada. After 7 years of braces the retainers lasted maybe 6 months or regular wear and 12 mos of nightly use. Those were extremely uncomfortable, too. And since I had grown larger than Dr Laffer in that time he no longer could bully me into wearing them 24/7. So my teeth are probably only slightly better than if I had never worn braces. I also developed a hatred for all dentists in that time, which probably doesn't help my oral hygiene.

Seemed to be mining for gold rather than treating a patient. Then seen for a broken tooth and needed a crown. Scheduled 6 visits to complete this crown (although completed in 4 after I expressed concern about the timeline). I've had 3 crowns in the past, each has been completed in 2 visits. I'm a certified medical coder, and I think he stretches out the visits so that he can code and charge for seperate components (and higher payments) rather than bill for a combination treatment that would be done in a single visit. The provider does not speak to the patient, only to the staff (over the patient's head). The only saving grace is that his staff are polite and welcoming.

I did have implants put into my lower jaw because that lower denture is famous for sliding around in your mouth as the ridge recedes that it needs to grip. Implants snap into matching "snaps" inside the lower denture securing it FIRMLY in your mouth!! It's a life-changing experience!! The ability to chew again?? Priceless!!

In the past year and a half my appts have been cancelled last minute due to hygienists leaving (and that is after making the appt. six months in advance/taking time off from work) and when you call to reschedule it's very business/corporate feel. Needless to say I ran a little late, 10 minutes to be exact. They said they would try to get to me but they actually had no plan to do so. Behind the scenes the female supervisor canceled my appointment and adjusted the schedule without telling me while they rushed through my sons cleaning. My appointment was at 0800am, it was just before 0800am that my sons cleaning was finished so why were they telling me I couldnt be seen? When I got back in my car to leave it was 0759am. Unacceptable.
