What a unique experience! This is a charming coffee shop in a converted train station with airy ceilings and antique wooden seating. The cashier was friendly and the bathrooms clean. Their iced golden chai was on the sweet side and even came with little mouthful cookies! The Monte Cristo special was exactly how it should be: a sweet, savory and slightly greasy combination with the best tasting orange slices. This is one of those why did I give this place 5 stars establishments...because I can't give them more or I certainly would! Traveling out west and stopped in Rock Springs for the night. Coffee is the first thing on the agenda, and Coal Train Coffee Depot fit the bill. I didn't know what to expect except a train depot, but I was pleasantly surprised. The place is so cozy with plenty of seating for socializing which some of the locals had come there to do this morning. The ambiance is antiquish, but there is a kids corner, and the room is full of lots of catchy sayings. The staff was extremely friendly and the service was top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed the medium roast coffee, and the ham Bregel was exceptional (you know it's going to be good when the egg is real!). I could have had two of them, but I made myself stop at one. Plenty of sweets to choose from as well. So glad I stopped by this hidden gem in Rock Springs on my way through, and if you enjoy coffee, I suggest you do the same! read more

I had very high hopes, as I walked in, but I couldn't read the menu. I had to take pictures and zoom in. For a guy with good eyesight, that was annoying. Service was acceptable to good. The unoccupied tables were dirty. The place was decorated with a bunch of antiques and a bookshelf with many novels, new and old. The food: do not get the breakfast burrito. The insides were frozen and warmed, it was mushy. It was small. Do not recommend. The breakfast bagel sandwiches "bregals" were ok. But my kids wouldn't eat them, so I did because my breakfast burrito was highly disappointing. Also had a raspberry/white chocolate scone, which was not very good. More like an overly sweet biscuit. The coffee wasn't very good but it was hot. I ordered hot chocolate Steamers for the kids. Hot milk showed up, I had to ask for the hot chocolate part again. Another one of those "not many options" type coffee shops. And luckily, they're actually good. Unlike so many places where it's the only option in town, they still go above and beyond being "average". Sure, you're not going to get some super fancy one of a kind latte with imported ingredients made by centuries old secret recipes, but you will get good coffee, drinks, and even cinnamon rolls. Didn't try any of their "real" food so can't attest to that. I saw a review about the cinnamon roll being lacklustre, and as usual, when I see bad reviews that are clearly the reviewer having a bad day, I had to try it. And I was right: the cinnamon roll was delicious. Hot, fluffy, gooey, not overly sweet. You can't ask for more. And the ambiance. Sure, if you are bothered by trains this probably isn't the place for you, but I personally loved seeing the trains roll past. And knowing it's an old train depot just made it all that more special. Very cute place with good coffee and breakfast eats. The coffee shop is set in the original train depot, complete with a beautiful old bench and lots of seating, even an old upright piano and kids' play space. Coffee is sourced from a small place and family in Columbia. There's a poster on the wall explaining their back story, which is cool. Little breakfast burritos and bagels hit the spot with coffee to go. If we had time, I would have liked to tour the downtown area. Lots of late 1800/early 1900 buildings. read more

Let me just start off this review by saying I've tried to be a loyal patron to this business. I enjoy good coffee, and absolutely love baked goods. However, after giving their in their pastries and breakfast multiple chances, I would have to say you are better off rolling the dice with consistency at Starbucks. Their bagel sandwiches are quasi decent, but they are definitely microwave made. So there's that. I tried to switch it up today and have their breakfast burrito, which costs $4, by the way. I'd be much more inclined to call it a breakfast taco. I even specifically asked what kind of sausage they use and the lady replied with "ground sausage". Nope, it's a chopped up patty that was very obviously microwaved. The ends of the so-called burrito were rock hard. Again, microwaved. It would appear that the salsa and the sour cream that they stuck in the box with it probably costs more than the actual burrito itself. It was tiny, and I am still hungry. I've had a good cinnamon roll from there one time. The other baked goods I've tried have always seemed like they were several days old. Today I tried an apple cinnamon pull apart that was literally a rock in the middle. I ended up throwing it away. For the cost, that is absolutely inexcusable. So, I would essentially interview the customer service agent and ask them how old their baked goods are and any other detailed questions about what you are about to pay for, otherwise you will be severely disappointed. read more

I LOVE chai lattes and have tasted many chais through the states. But the chai latte I had from this shop was by far, hands down, THE best chai I've ever had. I mean far surpasses any other quaint café latte, any doctored up starbucks latte, any other latte does not hold a candle to the one I got at this shop. Loved the atmosphere and the food/beverages. I also had a scone and it was pretty good too, not dry and not super dense. There is a piano and guitar visitors can pick up and jam out on (which my husband did) and there is comfortable seating for a fun crowd or a relaxing brunch. Great great place!! As soon as I read about this business On Yelp, I knew I had to stop and check it out. My guy and I are on our fall motorcycle trip through the West and try to find unique places to visit. This is such a cool place for a coffee shop! The staff was so friendly and the mocha was definitely on point. I also enjoyed a sausage breakfast bagel and my guy enjoyed a French dip with a huckleberry Italian soda (I know - weird combo for breakfast ).
