I went here about a month ago to get my first Brazilian. Previously, I would do my own waxing but there are some areas a gal just can't get to on her own! Anyway, I booked my appointment with the founder and owner of the shop, Annik. I chose to come here based on stellar online reviews, that Miley Cyrus came here (she has to know a good waxer, right?), that appointments are offered into the evening and that they have hard wax. Also, the location is convenient for people downtown or taking skytrain. The area is really not sketchy like some others have said. Maybe if you are not used to homeless people or people loitering, but let's be real, that's everywhere these days. I was super happy with the services here. The rooms are private and clean. There is no double dipping and Annik, as well as the woman at the front desk, were very friendly and personable. Annik was a perfectionist with her waxing and made sure everything was symmetrical and all hairs were removed. She checked her work several times during the appointment, which I appreciate. She also worked quite quickly. While waxing is not going to be painless, the pain was very momentary. read more

I'm a hairy guy and I've had the odd girlfriend in the past raise that as an issue. It was never a make it or break it issue though but I was always a bit of a wimp when it comes to waxing. I'm terrified of doing stuff that could be painful. But, after hearing how so many do this I decided to bite the bullet in August 2019 and get my first full manzillian. I had read that if people were scared of waxing they should try say their back or upper arms but I dove right in. I read a lot online, spent hours reading about the experience of other men and women. One thing that helped me was advice online that recommended people getting waxed take a extra strength Tylenol when they get up, and another just before the procedure as it helps the system be a bit numb to the pain. But in terms of narrowing down where I was going to go, I think I visited and read reviews of several places in Vancouver that specialize in just providing waxing services, as CoalitionSkin does. And for me, what made CoalitionSkin (aka the PxssyShop) stand out was a few reviews by men and how they said that the hard wax CoalitionSkin used is easier on delicate areas like your testes, pubic bone and yes, even your face. Also, in reading the bios online, CoalitionSkin has aestheticians who have both the training and years of experience in waxing that I felt they'd be able to do a good job. Which they do. Finally, I even found and read the health inspection reports for CoalitionSkin and they've never had any major infractions - and my own experience confirms that the place has always been spotless when I've been their. Booking appointments is easy to do online, where you can select your aesthetician and times in advance. My first time in August 2019 was with Camille, who unfortunately moved on shortly thereafter but she was great at explaining things and helping to position me during the waxing. She also instructed me to breathe in just before each rip of the wax and that helped prepare me. What actually hurt more was the odd time she had to go over a spot again as not all the hair would come out during my first wax. The hot wax stung the raw skin. But not for long. The first time also took the longest. Since September 2019, I've gone to Olivia, who has been great. Each time it's been easier as the hair doesn't grow in as fast or as thick. Also in September I started getting my beard waxed. Olivia does that too. I have always had a very thick beard since I was a teenager. When I trim and shave it away, stubble grows back quick within hours and that made dating difficult as by the end of the date, kissing me would be like kissing razor blades. So waxing the beard has helped remove the hair and keep it away for a couple of weeks where the skin stays smooth. And after having it done four times now it's easier each time. My last wax only took an hour or so for both the beard and Manzillian whereas the first beard wax took a good hour and the first Manzillian over 90 minutes, maybe close to two hours. Having said this though, even though it now takes less time, nothing ever feels rushed, they take the time that's needed to do things properly. Overall I'm glad I chose CoalitionSkin. It costs a bit more, but their aestheticians are well trained, experienced and very friendly and easy going. And I don't find it that painful at all. It's partly a mindset and taking the Tylenol helps I think. The CoalitionSkin website has lots of tips to help you prepare too. And they give great advice for aftercare too, like taking it easy for 24 hours and using tea tree oil as part of your after-wax regiment. Next summer, in 2020, I might try getting my back done, and having a bit of cleanup on my upper arms and chest although I don't think I'd ever get my full chest done. I think Camille said that the men she had waxed always said the back hurt the most but we will see! Anyway I can't recommend them enough. She did a great job making me feel comfortable and was very thorough in her work. The Brazillian hurt a little more than usual because she took on bigger areas per strip but the results were good. My issue is with the upper lip. Really, really love this place! I'd previously been going to a salon that started out great, but decreased in quality after I had become a regular. So I switched to Coalition Skin. I was enticed by their straightforward, slightly vulgar language. A lot of women's waxing places try to cover up "dirty" words with phrases like "flower" or "lady bits" and it gets pretty demeaning and cringey! Coalition Skin does not, their website leaves it all out in the open, and it's great! On to the actual review of services, they're fantastic. This is the first place I've found in Vancouver that uses hard wax, which really is the top quality wax. I've been getting Brazilians for 6 years now and, although any waxing is going to hurt a bit, this is the least painful I've ever experienced. The girls are equally well trained, polite but no-muss-no-fuss, they get everything off within 15-20 minutes...which for a half-Arab girl like me is a godsend. The two girls I've had are also very witty and great at conversation! Plus, their music is R&B and I really prefer it over the tranquil spa experience. They also have a little stamp card, every 5th wax you get a free eyebrow wax, and every 10th wax you get a free Brazilian. They also do discounts if you go every 5 weeks. Excellent! My waxer was an absolute professional, and made me feel extremely comfortable for my brazilian even though it had been *ahem* a while. She was very respectful, and kind. We chatted throughout the process, which made me feel at ease. Getting your pxssy waxed is always a little bit awkward at first, but my waxer made it seem completely natural- no awkwardness. She was also very good at what she does- the actual waxing. It was almost completely pain-free! Highly recommend. Reception was also very courteous. I only come to coalition skin for my waxes. Each stylist that I visit is super consistent, kind and as gentle as you can possibly be with waxing. I love their mantra, approach and super awesome p*ssy stickers. Their Dermologica brand cream for irritated ingrowns is truly a gift from God. Annik is so so so so great, couldn't recommend her enough. It can be hard with a lot of people's schedules, but if you can manage to go every 5 weeks, it does save you a bit of money. Coalition Skin has the most genuine, smart, efficient, innovative, and kindhearted aestheticians I have ever come across. I am Indian by ethnicity, and therefore have a good amount of strong dark hair. I have been to many waxing parlours in the last 10 years (in India, California, and now Vancouver.) I would have to say that Coalition Skin has provided me with the most comfortable waxing experience... They know what they are doing, they do it with confidence, and they do not make you feel uncomfortable at all. (Which was something I feared, having had so many horrible experiences in the past.) Oh the many wonderful things I have to say about this place! First off Annik is amazing. Amazing at shaping brows, amazing at waxing, and amazing at making you feel relaxed through the whole process. She is a busy woman (deservedly so) and costs more than the $7 salon jobs. It's well worth the cost though. Over the past year she has transformed my brows. They're known for their Brazilian waxes, and because I heard rave reviews from friends, I get my eyebrows waxed there exclusively - in fact, I just got them done recently. The vibe is here amazing. And I wanna love this place and call it home for my waxes. However my first wax was with an inexperienced waxer. It was painful and my hairs just ripped and didn't get taken out by the root. She was dismissive and not very personable, made an already awkward situation more awkward. She didn't pull the skin taught and didn't get all the hairs. I choose to go back to give it another shot with another waxer. Now my second waxer was very friendly personable and easy to talk to. Her wax was almost not felt, which in my opinion is always good. However I always found hairs the next day. I went back and told her and she cleaned it up no problem. I came back and book another appointment However experience the same issue with missed hair and broken hairs. I don't think it was her technique maybe it was the wax. I've ways had another place that was able to get all the hairs and have no breakage unfortunately they closed down. This place had a really awesome atmosphere and my second waxer was super cool. Some of us were just born with artistic talent. Sadly, I am not one of them. Which is why I leave my eyebrow shaping to Annik at CoalitionSkin. I have been all over town to get my eyebrows done... sketchy places that probably double dipped their wax (ewww), places that burned my eyebrows with wax that was too hot, places that left me with eyebrows that looked like polar opposites of the other... So I totally have eyebrow PTSD and am wary of people messing with eyebrows. Unfortunately, my eyebrows look like Ugly Betty if they are left untouched. So thankfully I found Annik! Annik is a perfectionist when it comes to brows and I adore her for it. She takes the time to confirm where your arch should start and where the brows should begin and end each time. She checks if you are comfortable waxing the top of your brows. She trims and tweezes to get everything just right, and then double checks her work before she considers it done. Awesome. Went in on vacation for a waxing and it was excellent. Minimal pain and cheeky logo stuff. Team is funny and relaxed that makes the experience great. It honestly was the best bikini wax experience that I've ever had. Annik was so super sweet and nice. She made me feel really comfortable. The place was nice and very clean and the prices are fair. I visited Coalition Skin for the first time and was INCREDIBLY impressed by how efficient and easy my Brazilian wax was. As a person with a really low tolerance for pain, I often dread Brazilians, but this one was relatively painless.
