Best dentist in the area, hands down. The only criticism is the lack of parking close by. Plenty parking about a block away but local gym takes all the close parking. Their staff is outstanding. The dentist is by far the best, no non-sense, to the point and get it done! They have payment plans and programs for yearly cleanings. You don't need insurance. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Office staff was rude when I asked for clarification on my $700 + treatment plan. I was told "it's right there on the paper" as if I'm a doctor and understand the abbreviations on the treatment plan. When I explained that I wanted a basic cleaning they said they couldn't allow that given my diagnosis. So basically it was pay $700+ or leave and I chose the latter after fighting with the staff. I have a toothache. A bad one. Earlier this week I scheduled an appointment at the Riverview location of Coast Dental for this afternoon... they even had me on their cancellation list in case an earlier appointment turned up. So today I showed up for my 2 PM appointment only to be told that their dentist left at noon today! When I asked why they would schedule me for a toothache appointment when they knew the dentist would not be there, I was told I was mistaken, that they had scheduled me for a new patient consult, xray and cleaning, nothing else. When I challenged that, I was told I was mistaken, or stupid, because the appointment was clearly NOT for my bad tooth! I said clearly not, since the dentist was GONE! So now I'm sitting here, still in pain, trying to find another dentist covered by my insurance, who can take me sooner than next week. I had an unhinged interaction with the office manager and after reflection, will be cancelling the appointment made. What originally started off as a miscommunication turned into the office manager yelling (screaming, other people came in to see who I was speaking to) because I was some how being disrespectful after being flustered over what seemed to be another scheduling issue. Was I disrespectful? Not at all. Frustrated--absolutely. But I was not raising my voice, nor was I cursing, or demeaning her or her character. What she did, however, after bringing up the original miscommunication (that was already resolved as far I was concerned, we had addressed it and moved past it) by insulting my husband for misunderstanding a directive given in office. Implying he was too stupid to understand and that I needed to speak for him. My husband works 50 hours a week, at a blue collar job where he cannot take calls, or have access to a computer to fill out forms. As his WIFE, I do that so he can go in, get seen, and be on his way. The Office Manager interpreted this as idiocy, however, and instead insulted him by insinuating he is mentally handicapped and "a grown man." Why yes, yes he is, a grown man who, provides a wonderful lifestyle for his family but unfortunately doesn't have time to fill out forms. Again, there was only one person raising their voice, and it was not me. It was like listening to a high schooler throw an absolute fit after being told "no" by their parent. And I reiterate--the original miscommunication was already addressed, literal water under the bridge, yet in a fit of rage, like a toddler, she started screaming at me, threatening to cancel the appointment for the "disrespect." This was the worst experience I have ever had at a medical office. It started off with having to wait 2 months so that I could do my X-rays and cleaning at the same time only to be told after an hr and a half of doing X-rays yea no cleanings today and on top of that after a hygienist came, they wouldn't do a regular cleaning I had to do an extra deep cleaning which I would have to come out of pocket for. When I asked for a regular cleaning they said "by law we cannot do a regular cleaning once it is recommended to do a deep cleaning" when I asked which law they wouldn't give an answer. Yea no that's not happening at all. They had me sign off to do an extra X-ray which I had to pay for or they wouldn't see me... come to find out from insurance it was covered so yea... after 2 1/2 hrs at the dentist they recommended out of pocket cost of 5k for services despite having coverage... they tried to push me into sign off and when I kept saying no, they attempted to have me sign off that I read the documents in the same place where I was t sign off to get service done. Absolutely not. I asked for my records because I will be going elsewhere. I also complained to my insurance and went line item by line item turns out they done use the right codes so they can charge more! The care was awful, the best part was the actual dentist government figure, but the cray technician was awful and the hygienist was pushy to buy things ridiculous. Coast Dental at Riverview has been the worst experience I have ever had with medical and administrative staff ever. It is hard to explain how nasty and careless the front desk staff was in addressing my questions and doubts. It is obvious that they are focused on confusing the patient, even asserting that any misunderstanding or doubts are the patient's fault or ignorance. Courtesy is completely absent, and the attitudes are clearly of abuse and arrogance. It is surprising the lack of interest and sensitivity on really helping and advising the client regarding the dental health issues he is facing. The multiple bad reviews are proof that something very wrong is going on with this facility, even suggesting mismanagement of information and payments. Isn't that some scheme of fraudulent service and billing? Definitely, do not use Coast Dental Riverview, but if you do, do not interact with Roxi and Dr. Pratt. I had been going to Coast Dental for a few years and they had told me "Whatever you're doing, keep it up! Your teeth look great!" Then I went in for my regular check-up and cleaning and out of the blue they said I needed a deep cleaning! They gave me a PreTreatment Plan that showed me the charges and how much my insurance would pay. That first day, my share was $55.99. I said I could pay that but but not the $588 for the following week. They suggested I talk to my insurance company. They did that day's work (1/2 of my mouth) and I went home and called my insurance. My insurance company said that Coast had never called them and that I was NOT covered for the items that Coast had said my insurance would pay. Sure enough, Coast sent me a bill for an additional $266. I told them that I wouldn't pay it because they were responsible for calling the insurance company to see if I was covered BEFORE doing the work. If I had known I wasn't covered I would have refused to have the work done. Two months later. At another dentist's office. First I want to say. Im a really reasonable and understanding person because I was in the service industry for years so it helps with being able to put myself in the shoes of others very well. I made the mistake of switching dentist offices because this was closer to home, from the start it was unorganized and unprofessional. The day of my first appointment was just to see the doctor, they took extra X-rays and I mentioned hey I had X-rays from the other office is this okay with my insurance? She said yes, your insurance covers X-rays. Then I made another appt for fillings and a cleaning... came to find out the day of, it was only for half my fillings (understandable) but no cleaning for that I had to make a separate appt for the other half and for my cleaning as well which NONE of that was told me to me. Nobody really seemed to care that they're having me come back more than two times which affects my work life because I work 8-5. Monday through Friday but whatever it's only my job right. Okay so I took off work made the appts for today. I called them at 8:30am to discuss the bill I received for extra X-rays they took when the Tampa location had X-rays that were good for use since they weren't even more than 4 months old. They wanted to charge me for them since my insurance denied the claim because they only give you X-rays once a year and to my understanding that's all you need. To which the front lady said "well we don't go based of what your insurance covers or not". She adjusted it in the end and I didn't have to pay for it, great thank you. Then I came in at 11 because all my reminders and the phone call confirmed my appt at 11am so that's when I came in. Then the front desk lady says "you missed your appt at 9am" I'm shocked bc I never received any reminder and I was talking to her at 8:30am on the phone. I proceed to explain her the situation. And she said well "the reminders are just a courtesy". While I understand it's my responsibility to keep up with my appts, I also believe the ball was dropped with me not receiving the courtesy reminder of the 9am appt when they sent out multiple courtesy reminders for my 11am. Amazing patient treatment, truly. Thank you. My hygienist was amazing, she made it better but I will not be going back, there's zero empathy or understanding. I went in to start the implant process due to a tooth which needed to be replaced. The first visit was more of a consultation. It seemed to go fine. However, this dentist kept insisting I needed a crown on the tooth next to the tooth in question. I explained that I wanted to get the implant done first as it is expensive. Next visit: I waited 1hour and 45 minutes beyond my appointment time. This is due to them triple and quadruple booking time slots. I finally get in, they extract my tooth and do the bone graft. I am to return 1 week later for post op. Third visit: only 1/2 hour beyond scheduled time. The dentist just looks and says it will be another 2 weeks before they can take the impression for the temporary tooth. (Flipper) Visit 4: 15 min wait. The dentist looks and says "wonderful! You have an infection. Great job!" I responded, telling him I had been rinsing with the warm salt water and the suggested mouth wash religiously, 3 times a day. He then says to his assistant to re-order a penicillin product, the same as he did initially. First of all I am allergic to Penicillin which is one of the 1st things on my chart secondly, they never gave me any kind of antibiotic prescription at all. That being said, it turns out the bone graft will not take without antibiotics as the bone graft is a foreign object and could get infected and possibly even kill someone. Because they have so many people there at any given time, I would imagine these elementary, potentially life-threatening, omissions are fairly common in these circumstances. I went to a more reputable dentist and 2 days later, have my flipper. To summarize, Coast Dental was a horrible experience for me. read more

Dr. Pratt is horrible. Visiting his office was a complete waste of time. What they tell you when you're making the appointment and what you actually get at the office is completely different. Total nickel and dime. Want you to make multiple appointments for basic examine and cleaning. Dr. Pratt will not talk with a patient directly. You have to go through an assistant of the front office. They cant answer any questions have to ask Dr. Pratt. So its a lot of back and forth to get any questions answered. I cancelled all my children's appointments and switched to a new dentist. Our issue began with the Apollo beach office. As a new patient we needed to have exam. I was told there was no doctor on staff at the time but they would do cleaning anyway. I chose to cancel and rebook with the Riverview office. I spoke with the office the day before and confirmed my appointment, however upon arrival, they did not have my appointment in the system. I had to wait several hours to be seen but was able to get in. They did the exam and recommended a deep cleaning. I told them I had had that done a year ago at my previous dentist and I did not have signs of bleeding. I was given the proposed treatment plan along with the estimated cost. I went back two times to complete the treatment, paying what was due each time. My husband also had his exam the same day, the dentist recommended an adjustment on his partials and stated there would be no cost. While adjusting one of the partials it broke. It had to be sent out for repair. 2 months later I get a bill for $84 for his visit. When I called I found out that only 1 adjustment was covered. I also found out I was being billed for $67. I called Humana and found out that none of the procedures were submitted for preapproval and Coast had double billed for services as well as an "unspecified preventative procedure" for $10. This showed up at each visit. I called Coast Dental 7 times in an attempt to get this resolved and no one would return my calls. DO NOT USE COAST DENTAL. They commit insurance fraud and very poor customer service. There are always new people, that says a lot. read more

So annoyed, I had to share my experience to warn others, and found- why am I not surprised to see all the negative reviews here on the front office staff?! First I thought it was weird that I never received a phone call/text/email as a reminder of my appointment. I usually get not only reminders of appointments, but also COVID precaution reminders prior to every single appointment I've ever scheduled (health related or not) during this pandemic. No biggie. However once I filled out all the necessary paperwork, they asked if I could get the X-rays from my previous dentist since my insurance only covers X-rays every 3 years, and it's only been 2. Without X-rays they couldn't even see me or clean my teeth. This would've been helpful to know PRIOR to my appointment (because who carries their X-rays around in their back pocket), BUT they said they didn't have my phone number so they had no way of contacting me. Nevermind it was already a production in our house for me to even get to that appointment (I had to start work late, my son had to get up and ready extra early for preschool, then my husband also had to start work late to take him to school) and the lack of regard for that time and effort to make it to that appointment. What really bugged me was the overall tone of voice and condescending attitude- like it wasn't their fault their call center didn't take down my contact info, so they had no way to reach me. This has got to be the worst ran office of any I have EVER been to. I started my visits back in January. I was given 2 or 3 options that would be best for me by Dr. Pratt. I made my decision to go with option #1 which was Dr. Pratt's recommendation. By the way, I love Dr. Pratt's manner so far. So I go in and tell them which way I would like to go, expecting to start the process which Dr. Pratt told me would be 2-3 months. The assistant said well let's just make sure we're all on the same page, so they scheduled me for another visit. Now mind you I've already told them which way I want to go. So the 3rd appt. I go in expecting to start the process. I was told I needed to pay $2,128 for the immediate temporary partial, which I paid. I had 2 crowns which I paid $600 for. The girl up front only charged me for one, why I don't know, and really didn't realize until about a month ago. But on February 24th I paid them $2728! Now, it is in July and I still do NOT have my temporary partial!! Supposedly UPS delivered it to the lab after hours and now my molds can't be found. So instead of making new molds, were going to file a claim with UPS on the lost shipment. AND we're going to use the COVID 19 virus as an excuse for it all. What happened or should I say DIDN'T happen to nothing being accomplished before the virus was here?! Those molds should have been done back in February! This office is a joke and I to top it all off I got past due bill's in the mail! For WHAT? Insurance paid for my tooth that had been pulled. The district manager, Stacy, isn't any better. She said she would get the past due bills straightened out, which that she did. Switching the numbers around and listing it as something else, therefore saying that I still owed for the temporary partial. Oh, and at my last visit, I'm told that I won't actually get my lower partial until the swelling is down from pulling my teeth--6-8 months! What happened to the 2-3 months I was told at the beginning?! I'll be lucky to have the temporary partial by December!! OH, beware when you sign your plan. Now that COVID 19 has arrived they want to charge you for the protective gear (mask, shield etc. ) that they wore or should wear anyways!!What a joke....an expensive joke! I like the hygienist who cleans my teeth but the office staff changes appointments without letting the customer know. The first time this happened, I had an appointment at 9:50am. When I arrived, they said I was 10 minutes late. I told them my appointment was 9:50 not 9:40 but I didn't keep my appointment card so I couldn't prove it. They said I could wait an hour or reschedule so I rescheduled. This time I kept my appointment card. I get a text message saying your next appointment is 11:50am of which conflicted with my schedule. I look at my calendar which says 3:30pm and I found the appointment card which also says 3:30pm. When I called them, they said the doctor was not available that afternoon and couldn't explain why I wasn't called to ask if I could make it. I hope they are not charging customers a "no show" fee with these schedule changes happening without consulting the customer. It's time to find another dentist. read more

If I could take a thousand stars away from this place, that still wouldn't be enough. My daughter has had 3 broken brackets on her braces since she got them. The first time, they said they didn't need to replace it. She's had two broken for the last month, and they can't get her in to see an orthodontist at any of their locations within a hundred miles, so they told us a month ago to walk in when they open today and they would take her right back. Now they are saying that they are overbooked and can't even promise that they will get her in at all! The dental staff has no clue about anything when it comes to ortho. The last time she needed bands, I stopped in to pick some up, and they had no idea what she needed. They said ortho puts that info in the chart, but they don't know how to read it. They also kept filing to her medical insurance instead of her dental, despite my coming in and showing them the claims address and explaining to them exactly how to file the claim. It took months to resolve that issue! I would love to take her someplace else, but she would have to start over with new braces for the second time since we moved here. They have no clue about patient service. I can't wait til her braces get off so we never have to see them again! read more

When I asked how Late they were running, they took me to a room to wait more, an additional 20 minutes. When someone finally came in the room she asked what are you here for today. I explained I'm a new patient and I needed a teeth cleaning. Her explained to me that they couldn't do a cleaning on the first visit and would need X-rays before they could schedule a cleaning. She then said okay let me check your insurance. I thought that it why they required my insurance information two weeks ago when I booked my appointment. If not, perhaps they could have done that 45 minutes ago while I was waiting. No, I continued to wait an additional minutes. When someone who finally came in and knew what I was there for she seemed to try to speed up the process from the hour after mI'm new to the area and usually don't post negative reviews but the customer service in the area seems to really be lacking. An hour and and half after arrival the X-rays are done. When I was told it would be another half an hour just for the dentist to review the records I then decided to reschedule. I now have to come back two other appointment just to have a teeth cleaning. I realize there is going to be a wait at every dentist but this was ridiculous. When I returned they recommended the higher cleaning. I declined just wanting what my insurance covered and they refused to do it. As a patient I feel I should be the ultimate decision maker with my teeth. I felt it was only recommended so they could charge extra. I also did not like the fact that when you're in the dentist chair there is their computer screen for everyone to see with everyone's phone number and name. I feel like I was scammed. I was told that my daughter needed three fillings in her baby teeth. I was shown a print out of what my co-pay would be after insurance. I was shown what white ceramic fillings would be and I was shown what silver fillings would be. We discussed it and I decided silver would be find since they were baby teeth and given my daughter's age, she won't have them much longer anyway. I went back the next day to have the procedure done and as my daughter is in the chair and they are getting ready, I mentioned that we had decided on silver fillings. That's when I was told that they are required by the insurance company to show what my options are but actually they don't offer silver fillings. Completely absurd to offer something they don't even have. The reason I think we were scammed is because everyone else in the office seemed to know that they didn't offer silver fillings. Why would the hygienist be the only person in the office that didn't know this? I find that impossible to believe. My guess is that they do this a lot and once the person or their child is in the chair, they just go along with it and sign up for the payment plan or charge it. I could do neither so I left. And I have requested that all of my family be assigned to a different dentist office. read more

This is the worst place ever !! I do not recommend them if I could give zero stars I would! My daughter has been going here for 2 years for an Otho that should of been a year and a half 2 year max. Well we are at 2 years and still 6 + months from being done! They cancel appointment without contacting you so u miss work just to show up and find out nope no dr available. They have been thru 4 orthodontist within the last year ! This is rediculous. I have already paid for services so of coarse I'm not gonna get refunded what's needed to see a more reputable dentist. Should of did my homework. Not to mention half the staff are rude!! I paid with my hard earned money not no dang insurance or state funded program !! This office shouldn't even be In Business if they cannot treat there patients kindly and cannot provide the services that have been paid for.
