A never-before amazing experience from a dentist in SLO county. I went as a referral to Dr Weins. That Dr. Weins treated me with professionlism, painless, truly, was in itself an eye-opener for me. You mean injections do not have to be painful? My injection was not painful. But i digress. Dr Weins first introduced himself to me by his firs name, followed by his title. He proceeded to explain all the findings all that he knew to be the case and all how he wished to proceed if I was in agreement. All this to say that Dr Weins provided the health care one hopes for and rarely experiences in a now commerical system that lacks humanity in many cases. Over two visits Dr. David Wong, DMD and his staff have spent more than 90-minute with their hands in my mouth. I've had 2 root canals done by Dr. Wong with good results. The proctice has the latest equipment, but most of all, they are very concerned with patient comfort. The post-treatment instructions even have the dentists' cell phone numbers in case you have pain after your treatment, and the office is closed. The practice is very professional. Had a root canal here an hour ago. It was literally painless, even the numbing injection. It was a quiiiiiick procedure. Flew by. Super accommodating office for my anxiety. Technology has come a long way since my last Root canal. I couldn't recommend this office more. From top to bottom, the staff is professional, kind and calm. I'd like to express my appreciation for Dr. David Wong's excellent work. I showed up at the Santa Maria office for an evaluation after being up all night with tooth, jaw, and ear pain. My condition had been off-and-on for probably 12 months but I was always able to use home remedies to mitigate discomfort while planning to seek professional help at some point in the future. Unfortunately, I had to have emergency abdominal surgery in December of 2024 which would have a 6-month recovery time. I put the tooth problem on the back burner as numerous life challenges put off action on the tooth. As luck would have it, the week I had a final in-patient abdominal surgery on a Monday, and was discharged from the hospital two days later, my tooth pain became relentless and severe. I came in for an "evaluation" on Friday early afternoon with the expectation I would have to wait until next week at the earliest for any procedure. I planned for a miserable weekend doing what I could to keep the pain within tolerance. Dr. Wong assessed the problem from the scan with precision. He explained what he believed the problem was based on the evidence and proposed the solution. I listened intently while using a toothbrush to massage my aching teeth, and jaw (radiating pain). Combined with Tylenol and Advil, it was the most effective relief I could manage, but had to be done every few minutes. Even though I had resigned myself to a weekend of pain management, Dr. Wong took notice of my distress and asked me to wait and see how his next appointment (currently waiting) went, and then he'd see about getting the root canal at least "started". I did so. Dr. Wong took me in for the procedure even though I was a stranger to this office and Dr. Wong. My confidence in Dr. Wong grew as he was deliberate and precise in performing the procedure. He and his staff member who assisted worked very well together. Even though I had arrived in the eleventh hour of the work week, Dr. Wong and his staff were clearly applying all their skills to my benefit and with a positive, gentle attitude that was compassionate. Dr. Wong and his staff member worked right up to the 5 O'clock hour, and a little more, without a hint of discontent. I was very grateful! Dr. Wong completed the entire root canal! He warned me the procedure would not necessarily kill all the pain right away. As the numbness began to wear off I prepared myself for pain but it never came! The anesthesia wore off and there was absolutely no discomfort! I couldn't believe it. THANK YOU Dr. Wong. Coastal Endodontic's is a FANTASTIC business! Dr. Wong was so patient and helpful when it came to my care! He explained the whole procedure and answered all my questions. His assistant for the procedure, Cecilia, was great! She made sure I felt comfortable and relaxed for a situation that could already feel stressful. Throughout the whole procedure I had no pain, and Dr. Wong would check to make sure I was doing well, every step of the way! The front office was also phenomenal! They are kind and patient any time I needed to reach out. Also, I had zero issues with billing, and they even made sure to double check with me to see if my insurance processed the claim! When you get news that you have to get a root canal, it's not exciting at all. But I have to say that Dr. Fu & his staff actually made the experience enjoyable. I know it sounds ridiculous to say a root canal was an enjoyable experience, but it really was painless, and the staff was so kind and accommodating. From the moment I stepped foot in the office I was greeted so kindly by Brittany the receptionist. (I want to add that I felt very safe because of the precautions they take for Covid-19. They asked survey questions, took my temperature, the office is all sterilized and I really felt safe.) Dr. Fu is a conservative doctor, and I appreciated that he wasn't looking to to rack up a high patient bill and unnecessarily drill into all my teeth, but he really wanted to ease my pain in the most cost effective way. His consultation and initial examination was very thorough and he didn't rush me at all. I love how the office is run, they schedule enough time with each patient to make you feel like a human being that is actually cared about. Dr. Fu is very patient and knowledgeable. He is very talented at what he does, but aside from his profession, I want to mention he is a really nice person. He emits a positive energy that reassures you you're in good hands. (Oh, I also want to add that he is SO accommodating for patients in pain- he let me come in early for my emergency visit). When it came to the root canal procedure itself he ensured that I wouldn't feel pain. I was really nervous about it but he & his awesome assistant Heather made me feel at ease. The procedure was painless. I was numb enough that I didn't even feel what he was doing. Afterwards they gave me a hot lavender tea towel (uhmmm it was like I was at a spa!) and they gave me a cute little care package of a mini chapstick, a Fiji water, and Advil packets. (It's all in the details. But seriously, these little extras are just another example of the thoughtful care, personal interest, and professionalism of Coastal Endodontic Studio). I hope I won't have to get a root canal again, but if I ever did I would come back here 100% knowing I would be in good hands. I am so grateful I found this office and I feel like Dr. Jonathan Fu and his wife Valerie, Heather, and Brittany have become friends to me. I have had not one, but two root canals in the past year. I had one in the Santa Maria office and one in the SLO office. Both offices have AMAZING staff starting at the front desk, to the assistants in the back. Dr. Fu did both my procedures and I cannot express how amazing he is at not only the treatment he provided, but he is just amazing all around - from greeting you, explaining things to you in a way you understand, checking on you throughout the entire process, he just has an amazing chair side manner. I had absolutely no pain during or after! Whoever thought getting a root canal could be a somewhat pleasant experience! I mean, getting a cozy blanket to snuggle under during the procedure? Whaat?? And totally, I mean TOTALLY pain free! Both Dr Wong and his assistants contually checked with me during the entire process to see if I was comfortable, needed anything, etc. Before starting the procedure, Dr Wong brought the xrays up on the screen and explained each little thing he was going to do and why. It made me feel so comfortable. Any anxiety I had just disappeared. When finished, he warned me there would be some soreness and discomfort and sent some Advil home with me. Guess what. It has been three days and nothing. Not even a twinge. I feel great! I can only say good things about this office for all your endodontic needs. I would never have imagined that Dr. Fu could perform a root canal without pain, but basically, that's what he did. He is/was amazingly fastidious with his attention and performance, but what amazed me (and, yes, I was AMAZED) was how he was able to perform the procedure with nearly no pain. I say "nearly" because I felt a slight twinge in my jaw during the procedure, but this is nit-picking. Given my expectations of medieval-level torture, Dr. Fu's performance was nothing short of a miracle. I know this sounds a but over-the-top, but I really was amazed at his expertise: not only in how well he performed the actual procedure, but also his focus on doing it WITHOUT PAIN. This review stems from a lack of patient respect with billing. Since they require cash payment up front and do not wait for insurance reimbursement... this leaves the patient waiting for reimbursement. This is explained up front so no issue there. Unfortunately, this office never submitted the claim for my services even though on the date of service they stated it would be completed. I inquired twice to make sure and was assured the claim would be submitted. I followed up with my insurance 60 days later and still no claim. The explanation from the office ... apologies...It just wasn't submitted. If the provider was waiting on a large reimbursement, not only would it have been submitted, it would be sitting on an aging report that would have been followed up on multiple occasions. If you are going to promote your business and price based on top notched service ... this would and should be a priority task for the office. read more

Their state of the art equipment and gentle approach made the process more efficient and quicker than the root canal I had years ago. I recently received a root canal from Dr. Fu and it was a great experience! Growing up, I heard many horror stories about root canals and how everyone dreaded them so needless to say, I was not looking forward to getting one. It wound up being quite the opposite. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They talk you through everything and explain what they are doing while doing it. Dr. Fu himself is extremely gentle and kind. I didn't experience any discomfort throughout the entire procedure. On top of that, they go out of their way to ensure you are having a great experience. When you get seated, they hand a little "menu" of things you can request to "make your stay more comfortable." Things like a weighted blanket, noise canceling headphones, chap stick, warm towel, etc. It was such a nice touch. Other small things Dr. Fu did to make me feel less uncomfortable: warmed the needle prior to injecting it in my gums. And while injecting, he is using his little stick mirror thing to up and down the inside of my cheek to keep my mind off the shot. Because of that, I honestly never even felt the shot. And he also owns the Gentle Wave machine (the only office on the Central Coast to have it) which cleans out the tooth really well and it is extremely gentle. I raved about Dr. Fu and his staff all weekend to my Husband and family. If you are need of an Endodontist, Dr. Fu is the way to go! read more

I am not someone who enjoys going to the dentist at all and have insane anxiety about it. I had a broken tooth and needed to have a root canal. Instant panic and dread set in. I was referred to Dr. Fu from another dentist and can't say enough good things about him and his staff! The day of my procedure I was EXTREMELY nervous expecting the worst. Dr. Fu was so kind, calm and reassuring. He talked to me in depth about my fears, concerns and promised me he wouldn't cause any pain. He really held up his end of the bargain! Even when getting my shots I didn't feel a single thing. He is extremely skilled and really took great care of me. They have a whole menu of things to choose from to make your visit more comfortable like a blanket, chapstick, pillow etc. The extra thoughtful touches really meant a lot and even sent me home with a little bag of Advil and aftercare instructions.
