Well, i do not love getting root canals, I had 2, but this was as good as it gets. the staff is awesome, friendly and accommodating. There is a menu of care items, water, tea, chapstick, music menu. excellent. almost a spa experience, except the root canal part. High level of service. As an Emergency Room Registered Nurse, I have had the privilege of interacting with numerous physicians and surgeons, particularly oral surgeons, due to the high rate of oral traumas we receive from the dunes in the Oceano area. However, none I have interacted with have come close to the level of care and expertise exhibited by Dr. Chung and her brilliant assistants, Claire and Tiffany, at 5 Cities Endodontics. After YEARS of enduring pain, I was referred to this exceptional endodontist by Dr. Yoon in San Luis Obispo (also a brilliant dentist who got me in for an emergency appointment right away), and I am immensely forever grateful for the quality care I received. I visited 5 Cities Endodontics after experiencing two failed root canals and a subsequent failed apicoectomy from an oral surgeon (not their fault, my tooth is tricky as heck!). I take really good care of my teeth, but I truly dislike scheduling the q6 month cleanings and any routine dental procedures...I'd rather vacuum the beach than go to the dentist.. My case was complex, as I had never experienced a cavity or significant oral trauma on the affected tooth-which was my canine and highly visible when I smile or speak. Despite this, the tooth was in excruciating pain and turning gray in color. Dr. Chung's calm demeanor and thorough examination and surgery put me at ease immediately. She was not only the most knowledgeable and thorough doctor I've ever encountered but also possessed a steady hand and a genuine care for her patients. It's easy to get jaded and burnt out in medicine these days, but I feel like she genuinely loves her work and her staff actually enjoys working there alongside her. Dr. Chung performed an apicoectomy and installed a cadaver bone above the affected tooth, followed by meticulous stitching. I went to work 4 days later and one of the older ED docs said it looked like she really did a great job! Her office provided oral anxiolytics and laughing gas to ease my *severe* dental anxiety, making the surgery comfortable...for all involved! Post-surgery, the office diligently followed up to ensure my well-being and monitored the healing process. They even sent the removed tissue for pathology to rule out any serious underlying conditions which I am thankful for. The office is equipped with top-of-the-line technology and offers a range of amenities during procedures, including chapstick, blankets, warm towels, noise-canceling headphones, Netflix, and a bunch of other options which I don't really recall. Despite my anxiety and concerns, Dr. Chung and her team treated me with respect and understanding, demonstrating exceptional skill and professionalism. I know I can be a difficult patient, so this did not go unnoticed. Their office is located in the busy Village of Arroyo Grande and they had ample parking surrounding the building. They provided post-op support with pain management, antibiotics, and steroid injections to aid in healing. Their panoramic (?) x-ray machine was also very cool--it was like a 3D image of my mouth showing everything! Really, I cannot recommend or thank 5 Cities Endodontics enough. If I could nominate them for the best endodontist office, I would do so without hesitation. This office is spectacular. The staff is incredibly kind. Tiffany was with me for my consult and root canal and was awesome. The office itself is so nice and cozy. Dr. Chung is thorough, skilled and kind. It was my first ever root canal and I fell asleep for part of it (No anesthesia!). They present you with a "menu" of care items before hands, like a blanket or head phones. I can also tell that the way the staff and Doctor interact that they treat each other with kindness and respect and have a positive working environment. I decided to see call Dr. Chung based on the Yelp reviews. I wasn't disappointed. I had an appointment for the day after I called. Her office is in a quaint little house just off the main drag in AG. The house has a sign that says Endodontist and Dr. Chung. I think she needs to trim away some of the plants in front of it so it is better visible. The staff was very efficient and attentive. After x-rays Dr. Chung showed them to me. They were in an easy to understand format with notations on screenshots of the X-rays. She found a problem with the tooth next to the one that I was concerned about which was extremally helpful. She also suggested possible alternatives to root canal such as extraction and a dental implant. I've had success with implants in the past but the cost these days is prohibitive for me. She did not do any "selling" which was nice. I didn't feel pressured to make a choice of treatment during the visit. The day after I left the office I received an email copy of the screen shots of the x-rays along with her report to the referring dentist. I liked the idea that she did this. I was able to see what my regular dentist was going to see. A lot of medical people want to leave the patient out of the loop. A few days later I had some questions and emailed Dr. Chung. She returned the email with a phone call. I thought I would hear from one of her staff but she called and twice because she missed me the first time. She called in an antibiotic prescription for me incase I needed it at some future time so I would have it on hand. She also said she would send me a flash drive with the original x-ray on it. I have to wait until after the first of the year when my insurance replenishes to have the work done. I don't see how anyone can go wrong with this doctor? If you are out of town the drive to AG is worth it. I have 82 Yelp reviews but it may show less. Yelp messed up my account. read more
