Great paddle on the Kiawah River estuary

Excellent instruction from our guide, Dallas! Can't say enough about his emphasis on safety and keen known of the waters we were in. I'll be calling Coastal Expeditions again soon for a tour of Shem Creek. Thanks again Dallas

Our intrepid and remarkable guide, Olivia ...she lifted ALL OF THOSE BOATS off the rack by herself..she is mighty!

Olivia was our guide for a full-day canoe exploration in the old French Huguenot rice plantation area aligning with the East Fork of the Wando River. I had signed up for the full-day canoe trip so that I could distract myself as we all nervously waited out the 2020 Presidential Election results, Saturday, Nov. 7 I wanted desperately to focus on ANYTHING but the political landscape. Olivia helped transport me into another world, through her leadership during the river trip. In fact, her expert guiding and educational skills riveted us to the natural and historic features of the haunted rice plantation tributaries that we paddled. We explored our exquisite fall river estuary for four hours at the peak of the Low Country's leaf color change on the east fork of the Wando River. As one of Coastal Expeditions most experienced and educated guides, Olivia ( degree in wildlife biology) taught us so much, on our all-day canoe and kayak tour down historic Quemby Creek off the old plantation road in Cainhoy. While we were paddling, Olivia pointed out wildlife and shared her insights about the profound and dark history that unfolded around us. She showed us Pompion Chapel along the river's edge, a structure from the 1700s built by Huguenot planters on the backs of enslaved Africans. Everything beautiful about the plantations, came to the planters only because of the exploitation of indentured workers. You can even see their thumb prints on the bricks in the church walls at Pompion Chapel on the plantation grounds. The area feels haunted but is starkly beautiful, at the same time. Our exploration took us up a tiny creek fringed with floating lavender-blooming hyacinth. When we banked for lunch, one of our retinue, pulled out a phone to check the Votes from Pennsylvania.....and the tally was in! I will always remember my Coastal Expeditions trip with Olivia on that fateful day for the USA! I highly recommend these outfitters...whether you are trying to get away from the chaos of politics or just center yourself in the arms of Mother Nature, you'll not find a better outfitter than Coastal Expeditions.

My wife and I had so much fun! Our first adventure here on our two year anniversary trip and it was a great start. Went a little bit of everywhere and saw many so many different kinds of birds hunting or feasting. I recommend it to everyone :)

They are funny and kind as well. My daughter was visiting from NYC to help me unload these reproductive boxes( feels like that anyway) and I decided to take her on a carriage tour. She was adamant that I investigate what company treats their horses the best., Here we landed! What a lovely place. The barn I mean. I so enjoyed hearing about the horses, their history and work schedules and requirements. Made us feel like we made a great decision. Dick ( Richard) and Dutch ( horse) were great! Very informative and loved hearing about the history and homes of Charleston. My kids were both born in North Charleston , but it's been a long journey to get back. It was really an exceptional tour and I felt completely safe and confident that these horses were treated beautifully. Do it! I didn't feel like anyone was sitting on my lap and I did like that even though they knew who lived in those crazy gorgeous homes, they did not divulge the names of their occupants., I could go again tomorrow. There are four different routes and it's by lottery which tour you go on , so you can really be a repeater!

I purchased the Tea Service ahead of time. Everyone was very friendly but I will say, overly cautious. I had indicated that I have a tree nut allergy on the notes when I booked our reservation and I have never had an establishment refuse me service because of my allergy , but they did. For the life of me I couldn't understand why a slight adjustment couldn't be made to remove almonds from one tiny dish. They also refused to serve one of my daughters for a lactose intolerance note. I assured them it was ok and I had a lactaid for her to take, she'd be fine. I had only included that note because SOME places will offer alternatives. Ultimately, they served us but I had to sign a waiver, never have I ever until now. Most of the tea service items were very good with the exception of the tiny lemon chess pie which was curdled and tasted of rotten eggs, awful. The tea was excellent and the scones and curd and cream were great too. The area where the dining room is, is nothing fancy at all. It was decent but I was truly disappointed as I was hoping for something more extravagant for tea service. The plantation home, while nice was also truly underwhelming. Great history, good tour guide who was very knowledgeable and a great storyteller, but the house was not anywhere near as fancy as others I have visited. I think what was the biggest let down was that this was the first time my daughters were visiting any plantation home and it was not at all what I was hoping for them to see and experience. If I had known what it looked like more ahead of time, I would have chosen another location in the area. Pictures inside the home are not allowed.
