    Captain Dan and his ladies!

I can't even accurately put into words how much fun we had with Captain Dan on our boat ride! His boating experience and historical knowledge coupled with just the right amount of fun made it the best afternoon of our entire trip! He also pointed out all of the places in the marsh and harbor where they filmed scenes from the NETFLIX show Outer Banks! Super cool as we had all watched the show!! Seeing all the huge houses and piers along the water and hearing about some of the owners and construction process was very interesting. All in all we had an amazing time with Captain Dan and will definitely look him up again if we're back in Charleston!

This was the best water tour the highlight of our trip to Charleston SC. Captain Dan was such a great tour guide and knew all about the Charleston area history and nature. We saw a multitude of wildlife dolphins, manatees and birds. We learned all about the area in our 4 hour tour and it was so intimate and personal. We toured the area took a refreshing swim. I think this is a must do experience for the area. Highly recommend for kids and adults.

Captain Dan, thank you for MAKING our trip to Charleston. We knew we wanted to get on the water but didn't want a super stuffy fancy tour. We wanted a local who was funny, involved and made us feel relaxed. Captain Dan did just that!! He is so knowledgeable, funny and easy going. I will be sure to use him every time we come back to the area and point our friends and family to his tour as well. Thank you!!!

Captain Dan's water tour was the highlight of our Charleston trip ! We had a group of 5 people including a 7 year old and were all very happy with our experience. Dan made sure to cater the trip to all our requests! We saw lots of wildlife including dolphins and manatees and were able to anchor the boat so we could jump in and swim. Captain Dan was a wealth of knowledge providing us with history and facts of the area. His boat was also less then a year old and had all the amenities you could ask for! Seeing Charleston through this intimate tour from the ocean view is an incredible experience and a must do when visiting Charleston. I know when we go back we will be booking this tour again!

My family was on vacation in Edisto and we had purchased a deal with livingsocial.com for a two hour water tour on Shem Creek. We were set to leave at 6pm but arrived at the dock just about 20 minutes late thanks to all the commuter traffic. Captain Dan was waiting graciously on the dock for us. He has a gorgeous 22ft' Scout Sportfisher stocked with plenty of water and gatorade. He allows you to BYOB and snacks. We took off out of Shem Creek which was spectacular at high tide flanked with great blue herons and dolphins swimming next to the boat. Along the way Captain Dan stopped to tell us about the historical points of interest as well as the local point of view. We went on an extensive tour of the harbor stopping by Rainbow Row and Fort Sumter. My favorite memory was in the creeks over by Morris island which was breathtaking at sunset. We had a great time with Captain Dan. The tour was so thorough and he went above and beyond for us. Although we were just about 20 minutes late he allowed the tour to go on well past the two hours we paid for. You can't beat the value in this intimate tour of the Charleston Harbor. I highly recommend this to any one looking for an authentic tour without feeling too "touristy".

We had an absolutely wonderful cruise with Captain Dan yesterday. Took some friends from out of town and we all got a great tour of Charleston from the harbor perspective! He is extremely knowledgable and told us some fascinating facts about the importance of the Charleston harbor throughout history! The boat was beautiful, spotless and comfortable, and the ride was enjoyable and fun. Highly recommended!

Charleston Groupies on tour with Captain Dan. Thanks Captain Dan!!

During my first visit to Charleston a few years ago, I took one of their daytime carriage tours and left feeling... underwhelmed. I didn't learn all that much, the tour wasn't especially memorable, and I wrote that I'd rather have explored the city on foot. Fast forward to my most recent visit when one of my friends wanted to do the Haunted Carriage Tour. Since it was something different, I happily went along and I'm glad I did. Our horse, Ron, was a 2,000 pound French Percheron and wow.... talk about a workhorse! From what I observed, the horses seemed well cared for despite the small stable. It was fun learning a little about Ron before we set off. Our guide, Matt, was informative, engaging, and did a great job mixing Charleston history with the haunted stories. While I'm not really into ghost tours, I still learned quite a bit. In fact, my favorite takeaway wasn't haunted at all - it was learning the difference between a graveyard and a cemetery. This tour also had a digital component as we were prompted to scan the QR code to see photos of the individuals/"ghosts" he was talking about. The tour also gave us another opportunity to see Charleston from a different perspective and this time around I enjoyed riding through the historic streets by carriage. Overall, this experience was much more enjoyable than my first. The company clearly has these tours down to a science and if you're deciding between a daytime tour and the haunted evening tour, I'd surprisingly recommend the latter. I'm glad I gave Old South another chance.

If you're visiting Charleston, book a tour with Patricia "Trish" Goron at The Original Ghost Walk…read moreTour. We just finished her tour, and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip. Trish is a true Charleston native, and her stories are based on real local accounts, not a canned script. She even shares photos tied directly to the paranormal history she has experienced and describes. The wildest part. We were standing with her about six feet from a streetlight on a corner. While she was talking, the top of the light pole started shaking, almost violently. There was no wind, and no other poles were moving. Then she asked it to stop, and it did. She acknowledged the paranormal presence and politely asked it to shake again, and it did. She said it was the first time she'd seen that specific physical reaction, and even she was amazed. It was truly a "see it to believe it" moment. By the end, it felt like walking through Charleston with a friend who knows every secret and haunt in town. She is charming, professional, and genuinely local. Support a local expert and skip the big corporate tours. She is the real deal who clearly lives and loves what she does. I mean it's a haunted old beautiful city and I love it. Out of the three that I went on most recently I would say that Ghosts of the South and Ghosts of Charleston we'e both amazing, but Ghost Walk Charleston might be my secret favourite. The hosts of all of them were charismatic and fun and the prices are not bad at all. I don't recommend going in winter because it does get chilly around here at night. The heat of the summer can be a little bit too hot hot in SC, and it gets humid, so go in a moderate climate time of year like spring or fall - that, I think, is the most enjoyable.

This 738 acres farm was beautiful! I spent nearly four hours exploring. I stopped by the visitor center after parking and was given a map. This is where you schedule the tour of the main house (not the original). The tour runs every 30 minutes. You can view the first floor and huge patio in the back. It's worth checking out. After exited the house tour I saw a 600 year old tree by the water. Then the staff advised to head to the parting lot and hop on a trailer being pulled by a tractor for a tour of the property and a history lesson. I learned so much and enjoyed the ride. While taking in the visual beautiful I couldn't help but think about its somber beginning. The crops worked by the enslaved started with cotton and indigo (premature deaths due to the urine used in production). Then the crops were switched to pecans. I told you I learned a lot LOL! There were sessions at different times and places throughout the property offering more history. I also enjoyed a stroll through the gardens which were spectacular and in full bloom at the time I visited Memorial Weekend. They also had several enslaved homes to tour as well as one that was used as a church. And the Visitor Center, in the original cotton mill, included a small museum which housed the original cotton gin. There was a cafe with a small menu, snacks and souvenirs. You can truly spend hours. They were setting up a wedding on the house grounds with the reception being held at the Dock House (be sure to check this out too). Weddings are scheduled to start when visitors are leaving. If you're interested in American history and love to explore the outdoors I highly recommend checking out Boone Hall Plantation.
