I was a little reluctant to try this place, strictly because I wasn't in the mood for anything handheld, but my husband planned date night and reaaally wanted to try Coastal Haze for dinner so I gave it a chance. So glad I did because the restaurant itself is a whole vibe tucked away from the busy street in Cape Carteret. We had the most amazing time here. Everyone was wonderful, helpful with how to order and there is plenty of space inside and outside for the warmer weather. My husband and I chose a table right next to an elderly couple who was trying Coastal Haze for the first time (they live out of town and visit this area once a year) and they were lovely to have a conversation with. I ordered the shrimp tacos and my husband got the wings - both were really good and filling! The tacos had plenty of shrimp, were flavorful and came with these steak fries that were thin, crispy and so good! My husband is sort of a snob when it comes to wings and he was pleasantly surprised. Laid back dining at an elite level. We picked up a snack a couple days ago of the Coastal Fries and were so blown away by them we went back to get more and try the wings. The fries were just as amazing as the previous order and the wings were in a word , perfect. Nice and crispy outside and juicy throughout. And HUGE!!!! 10 of these wings have more meat than 15-20 at most places. As a recommendation, try the dry rub wings and the spicy peach sauce on the side. Out and about in Cape Carteret looking for a place to eat and Coastal Haze popped up on bestie's search engine so we decided to give it a try, Just a little unassuming looking dive bar from the outside, but hey those kinda places usually have the best grub and atmosphere. Coastal Haze was definitely no exception to that rule, it was phenomenal! The staff were all super friendly and helpful, going over how to order and pay, and delivering our food quickly. I ordered the Crusted Pierogis with Coastal Fries and honestly both were unlike any other food I've ever eaten! The Crusted Pierogis were definitely handmade, filled with luscious mashed potatoes and topped with onions and shaved cheese. Very filling and a large enough serving to share, well worth the price. The Coastal fries were the star of the show though! The fries were hand cut, seasoned and fried to perfection! Topped with layers upon layers of gooey cheese, grilled onions, bacon, feta, and OMG the Haze sauce?!! Three of us went to lunch recently. Haven't been here in awhile. The prices went UP like other restaurants but the quality went down. We ordered the steak and cheese hero, drip burger and black bean burger. None were worth the money. One of us ordered a beer for $4.20 and the total was $61.38!! On vacation in Emerald Isle and decided to try Coastal Haze because of the reviews. My wife and I got two of the popular items on the menu: a Drip Burger and the Lettuce Wraps with steak. The burger is described as a smash, but it's a quarter pounder. A decent burger, but nothing special. The Wraps were good, but nothing like an Asian wrap. We also got the Sweet Potato fries and Spicy Cauliflower... both were very good. I wasn't able to place an order online or call in a takeout. So I placed an order at the bar and ordered a beer. This was at 6:30 PM on a Saturday. It took an hour to get my order. I got the impression this wasn't an exception. The bartender was great and the had their taps listed on Untapped, which is a plus. read more

Came here for lunch with my sister and her family, we ordered several dishes and snacks. We all agreed that the sweet potato fries was our surprise fav, they had a sweet powder on it. The batter on the onions rings were really good too, it didn't fall apart as you were eating it. We ordered shrimp tacos, kids hot dog meal, ceasar salad with chicken, drip burger and wings. All if our food was nice to look at, filling and really flavorful. Our server was quick and really nice. Awesome place to visit when living Emerald Isle. Food is fresh and yummy. All the staff were super kind. They even have gf options which is always hard to come across. I love supporting local especially when you can tell they take pride in the place. I got the chicken ciabatta chicken and fries and my bf got the shrimp taco as that were recommended by one of the staff members. Everything has amazing flavor without being over seasoned. We didn't realize that the gf tacos were the same as on the main menu until after they came out and had cheese. The staff remade them for us without hesitation. My recommendation would be just put Gluten free option next to their according menu item so this could be avoided in the future. read more

Once again, this place is JUST SO GOOD!!! This time I ordered the Vinnie and it was amaaaazing! The "ham" they use is so unique, almost like a cross between bacon and ham? Salty? YES! That's my favorite flavor profile! This was perfectly cooked and I was able to cut it in half, and share with hubs. Came out pretty quick and I paired it with a Bloody Mary that was DELICIOUS (they use a little pickle juice in there!). Made for an awesome brunch type meal. The service is great. Absolutely love the overhaul they did on the building. Super cute and they have the same business structure as fish hut as far as waiting in line, then payment at the end but totally different menu! The drip burger is amazing. Super flavorful and the sauce is killer. The lettuce wraps have good flavor, I have gotten them twice and both time they have had bones in them so just be careful! The pierogis aren't my favorite. I originally came from Pittsburgh where our polish community is huge so we have always had great pierogi options. We've been loyal regulars at this restaurant for a while now, and it's always been one of our favorite go-to spots. The food has consistently been delicious -- flavorful, and perfectly cooked every time. And until recently, the fries were just as memorable -- golden, crisp, and full of that satisfying potato flavor that made them the perfect side to any meal. Unfortunately, our most recent visit left us pretty disappointed. The restaurant has switched to using beef tallow for frying, and the change has really affected the fries -- not in a good way. Now, instead of tasting like fries, all we could taste was the beef tallow. The signature potato flavor we used to love was completely lost. The new version just doesn't hit the same -- they feel heavy without the taste we were used to. Sometimes, small changes can have a big impact. We hope the team reconsiders or at least tweaks the new recipe -- because we'd love to rave about the fries again like we used to. read more

I also stood up to pay and had to find my own ketchup. They brought the food to our table, but it basically the same type of service as Chick-Fil-A The service was friendly enough, but it is not a waiter service restaurant. The prices were high. It was $82 before tip for a burger and fries, two kids meals, shrimp tacos, four drinks and an order of pierogi. The fries are not included with the $14 burger. And the food was fine. Good fries with an interesting shape, wide and flat. The burger was a nice patty, though not very juicy. The haze sauce was okay, but a little underwhelming. The pierogi were perfectly acceptable. Nothing was bad, but I won't remember any of this food. If the prices were closer to $50, it might be 3 stars. Same if it had real waiter service.
