On a beach trip from Raleigh, my friends and I will never miss a YUMMY trip to SUB TROPICS. And there are many! It is conveniently located at the beach on the main road, Ford Macon Road en route to the Circle and other Atlantic Beach public shorelines. Beachgoers can shop local and stop in for something refreshing and will love colorful Sub Tropics - a sandwich, wrap and smoothie spot that's located in the heart of Atlantic Beach, just off the Atlantic Beach Causeway. I love what one review on google said, "cheerful customization from the chief, Charles." I also added a pic of some dolphins we saw. Be kind to the animals tho and be sure pick up all of your trash while at the beach. Stop in to SUB TROPICS for a treat on your vacay.

You probably would drove by this place and think nothing much of it. The inside is a bit of a dive, but the sandwiches we ordered were superb! Don't let the appearance deceive you. I got the turkey, ham and roast beef - the bun was fluffy, there was a generous amount of meat, and you can add whatever toppings you want. The Italian was simple and delicious. Give this place a try! A few spots for parking in front of their store.

Sub tropics is the perfect beach hole in the wall! I walked in to the most amazing smell of sandwiches and pizzas toasting. The best part of my experience were the smiling faces of the staff. You can tell that this business is a family affair, run by folks who truly have a passion for what they do. They were also very helpful in answering any questions I had and customizing my order to my liking. My fish wrap was average, but the star of the show was the blackened turkey sub my mom got. The bread and vegetables were so fresh and the turkey had an amazing flavor. I was so full after my wrap, but still ate a few bites of hers! The food is also extremely affordable! Please make sure to stop by Sub Tropics to get some amazing food and support what seems to be a wonderful family! *One other note... it says online that they close at 2, but will sometimes stay open later depending on the crowd*

Turkey and Swiss on wheat with chipotle aoli and that killer pepper relish.

Forget Jersey Mike's and that god-awful Subway and check out Sub Tropics for your take to the beach lunch or cold dinner needs. Sub Tropics came recommended from a Pine Shore native and it did NOT disappoint. The bread is great and that red pepper relish- man- it's the bomb. I had the turkey and Swiss and when I told the girl I had never been she recommended the chipotle Aoli to go on the sub instead of the usual mayo or mustard and it was killer. Hubby had the spicy Italian and he enjoyed it as well. Boar's heads meats are a game changer and they don't use those at Jersey Mike's. You can also purchase bags of chips, cold drinks and even smoothies. The staff was incredible gracious and kind considering how busy they were, and I'm sure are, day in and out. Be sure to leave something In That tip jar for those hard working friendly folks. They seemed to know almost everyone in line and shouted hellos and names as they went. I would put this on your must stop list for Atlantic Beach..there's a line and a tiny shop with a small staff so prepare to wait a few minutes but any sandwich this good is well worth it. There's some outside seating but I found everyone was taking it to go. Get a large- you won't regret it! In fact if you don't, you will!

A legit sub shop on the Atlantic Beach strip, Sub Tropics offers a lot to sandwich fans. Boars Head meats, as so many others have mentioned, make a huge difference. I had the turkey; my friend had a chicken club. All the meat was shaved as we ordered. Veggies were abundant (but the lettuce was a little brown). I wish I'd know about the chili aioli, but maybe next time. There are two tables outside, but no more seating, and the trash can is off the parking lot. If you're looking for a great sub, pleasant people, and delicious smoothie (to go), you can't beat Sub Tropics.

Yum! This little hole in the wall sub shop is so delicious! All of their ingredients are so fresh and they use top notch deli meat! There's usually a line out the door. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The prices are also very reasonable. One of my favorite places to get a sub! If you're looking for a refreshing lunch - this is your spot! I will continue to come back every time I'm in town!

    "Açaí berry smoothie"

Charming little spot and friendly staff. Seriously disappointed in the smoothies. They're not fruit smoothies. it's basically flavored sugar water with ice. Honestly not sure why my açaí smoothie tasted like grape cough syrup. Didn't try anything else so can't help you guys there. But seriously morehead needs to step up their smoothie/açaí bowl game. It's 2020 people! Was really counting on the mom and pop to have a fresh made smoothie. Pretty disappointing.

Best sub on beach. Now I do love a Sub Pub but it's too far and this is far superior. Also owner is usually there. Support Local!

This is my favorite place to get subs in the area. The spicy Italian island style is fantastic and so is the mahi fish wrap!

In my…read moreexperience, finding good seafood restaurants in and around Atlantic Beach (even including Morehead City - where there are a dwindling few) can be surprisingly difficult, especially compared to the pelagic bounty of most coastal Carolina towns. Bahia has probably the best food I've had from any of the current crop of Atlantic Beach places. Every dish I've tried so far has been excellent. One in particular needs to be highlighted. The crab dip is possibly the best I've ever eaten, anywhere. You need to try it. Pro tip: Be prepared for the generous amount of butter and oil in and on the food -- it adds to the richness and is definitely a good thing, but you'll want to be careful if you're planning on performing microsurgery or wiping your eyeglasses. There is unobtrusive but good quality live music, which is always a plus (and seems more well-considered than the solo guitar dudes repeatedly playing "Free Fallin" at the neighboring restaurants and bars). The air conditioning indoors does a heroic job of keeping the restaurant a relatively nice temperature, as well.

Great food and kind service! Like others have said, be prepared for a bit of a wait if you come…read moreduring peak hours. We were here around 9:30 on a Saturday and waited about 40 minutes, but that flew by because we were able to go sit in their coffee/mimosa bar area and wait to be paged. The vibes in both spaces are pretty classic beach diner. It's a relaxed but busy atmosphere. Our waiter was super attentive and kind and we didn't feel rushed despite how busy they were. I had the Land and Sea Benedict, which comes on a giant biscuit and has fried green tomatoes, eggs done your way, shrimp, Cajun gravy, and bacon crumbles. I am particular about biscuits and this one was excellent (soft without being doughy, appropriately crumbly without falling apart). The tomatoes were super crispy without being overly greasy. My over-easy eggs were perfect, as were the shrimp, and the gravy was excellent. The grits I had with it really lived up to their reputation of being smooth and creamy, with no need for butter. My mom had the "Kitchen Sink" omelet, and very much enjoyed it. The ingredients were fresh and nothing was over or under done, which can be hard with such a variety of ingredients. The home fries that came with it were terrifically crispy. I also appreciate that they make their own hot sauce, as well as the mix for their Bloody Mary (which my mom also loved) I enjoyed my peach mimosa and got a kick out of all of the different flavor options. I'd love to explore their lunch menu too. I'll definitely frequent again next time I'm out this way!
